American Windows & Siding

This is a review based solely on one phone conversation. I never had this company do any work for me and I didn't even receive a quote from them although that was the reason I called them. I normally don't hop online to give awful reviews to companies, but my experience with this one by phone was so horrible that I was inspired to add this review. I called to find out about getting a quote on a busted window. Ideally I just wanted to replace one window, but there are about ten windows that I have that I'd like to update at some point. The person I was on the phone with just fixated on the fact that I really wanted to replace one window, even though I have several more that could be replaced with the same project (which I made sure he was well aware of). He kept telling me that I'd be charged the same for one window as I would be if I was replacing four windows. He was so abrupt and harsh with me that I was taken aback and wasn't quite sure how to respond to him so I just said goodbye and hung up. Clearly he wasn't interested in receiving any business from me. And the experience was so unpleasant that it took me a few days to feel up to calling other companies about quotes. I won't be calling them ever again, and will warn any of my friends or family not to bother with them. This was the worst customer service experience I've had to date. Also, when I checked this company's Angieslist reviews, it should have been a red flag that for any bad review listed, that the responses seemed pretty defensive. In my experience, the best companies are the ones that are completely pleasant with their customers - with that whole the customer is always right type of philosophy - and that no matter what the review says, it is best to have a pleasant response instead of trying to point fingers.

They did a good job and their prices were really competitive.

I wanted to get an estimate for replacing three large windows on the main floor. He gave an estimate for $1500.00 over the phone but added that they don't do less than 4 windows. He seemed very disinterested in getting the business..very surprised by his attitude.

They were nice and informative. My son had some work done with them in the past and recommended their services as well.

They were quick in getting back to me and in doing the work. They cut the opening for one of the windows too large but other than that they did a great job.

Very Smooth. Price was right. Completed in one day. Nice finish with no issues. Came on time and completed on time. No high pressure and a good selection of options.

It was quick and painless. The sales rep was a co-owner of the company and explained everything I needed to know about his product and what made it different from the other guys in about 15 minutes. There was no hard sell and I really appreciated that. His quote was the cheapest by about $80 for a $4400 project. I ended up going with someone else and having a bad experience. If I need anything else for windows or siding I will call these guys.

It ended with what I refer to as "self elimination", ie high price and no followup/details in the job bid eliminated this co from my consideration.

A rep from American showed up on the date/time scheduled and provided a estimate for the windows/doors. The price was fair and the installation schedule went exactly as planned. The installation crew showed up on time and completed the job in a timely manner. American management stopped by to check on progress the day of installation, and came back to check the work a few days after installation was complete. They also applied the Angie's List discount to the job.

They were excellent. Brad G was wonderful to work with. They are very low pressure. He gave great advice. The quality and installation of the windows are also great. I couldn't be more satisfied.

Brad was excellent. Very professional, prompt and clean crew. Very patient through our color selection and door design process. Very accommodating with every concern. All information was accurate and job was completed as quoted. All products to include the Vytex windows met every expectation set by Brad.

Very pleased with the recent experience I had with American Windows. One of their representatives (Mike) came out to look at our house and speak to me around my schedule. The prices were in-line (or better than) their competitors and way below a high-profile, high-pressure company that called for weeks on end (I hate that!) No pressure, outlined different solutions and quickly boiled down to 2 options (no pressure on higher-priced option), easy-to-understand the work that was going to be done, and when it was going to be done. I wasn't in a rush, told them anytime in the next 2 weeks would be fine and they were out in 2 days! Great job, very professional demeanor and I like to think I got my money's worth. I'd work with these guys again.

The windows were installed and are fine. This review is regarding the sliding balcony door which we had replaced. The new door that was installed was not the correct size and therefore the company had to adjust by redoing the frame work to fit. The top step off the balcony door is also now non existent. The workers used too much chalking and the end result looks very messy and not professionally done. I contacted Jim and his response was that there was nothing his workers could have done to avoid us losing the space for the top step that comes off the door. However, my next door neighbor used another contractor and theirs looks great. For balcony doors, I suggest using another company if possible.

We had an excellent experience with American Windows from the estimate phase through installation. Ed Dunn completed the estimate. He explains the various products they carry, makes a few recommendations and then let's you decide what you want. He provides all the details you need without a sales presentation, nor does he pressure the customer. We were very impressed with the installation process. Russ from American Windows supervised the operation. He was present and involved with the process the entire time. Russ and the installation team were skilled, polite, detailed oriented, and super efficient. They arrived at 8:15 am and completed all the work, including clean up by 3:30 pm. Their process was systematic and organized. The windows and sliding door look GREAT. Our experience with this company is that they have excellent customer service, carry a wide selection of windows and doors, and have an efficient and skilled installation team . A few years ago, they installed two sliding doors and we were equally impressed which is the reason we recently contacted them again for this project.

Well American windows was the lowest in the price and I like the product more then the others bidders. We end up replacing 22 windows and also our back door. Brad said they would have all of the work done in one day which I said I find that hard to believe. Well not only did it take one day but they also did it on a Saturday so I did not have to take a day off of work. There isn't to many window people that well work on a Saturday. They windows look Fantastic the really cut down on the noise outside and no air coming inside. American window promised they are the best windows out there and when there crew showed up {which they were on time} they worked very well together . I think the Head foremen name was Russ. He did the job and then some. He also express so concerns of other issues and help us to fix them. We still have 10 other windows that needs to be replace and we will be Calling American soon for these to be replace too. Thank you Brad for doing your job.

American Windows & Siding was excellent. They said they would be there at 8 am. I arrived at 7:55 and they were already there and ready to go. They said it would take about 4 hours to complete the job and they were done in 3.5 hours including everything cleaned up. The foreman noted there was one problem with a part on one window and that the service/manufacturer would call me to set up a time to repair the window. They called the next day or so, we scheduled the appointment, the repairman showed up on time (a novel concept for contractors these days) and quickly repaired the window. Overall, I was extremely pleased with this company and highly recommend them.

OMIGOD these guys were great. This is one of the first times I have had the sales person in line with the workers. They came to the house and of course discovered some issues with the framing of the doors but not once complained just went to work finding a solution and fixing the problem to install the doors. They worked all day and were actually working the entire time. The process was explained in detail when I had questions and solutions were gone over with me prior to moving forward. There is a lot that goes into the framing of a door. I will be using this company again in the near future for a rental I own- They were great efficient, effective and timely - a perfect combination.

American Windows arrived right on time at 8:00 with a crew of 4. They replaced 10 windows on the main floor of my house and cleaned up all the debris by noon. With a major storm coming the next day, their timing and service were spot on. I could not be more pleased.

In early spring this year I noticed one of my bedroom casement windows, which had been installed by American Windows and Siding around 2006, was fogging up. The window had a leak. I called the company, and they were immediately responsive. Though they had misplaced my file and could not find it for a few days, I did finally get a call back and was advised they found the measurements for the window in question and would reorder a new one, honoring their warranty on replacement of defective windows AND installation (I didn't pay a cent). The company did not even send a representative out to inspect the window, but took my word for it. Within a week or so, I was called by the Vitex company in Maryland; they set up a time for installation of the window. The workman was already waiting for me when I arrived; he took out the old window and installed the new one in no time flat. I was extremely pleased that the company was so responsive and honored their warranty so quickly. Usually one gets the runaround by companies when it comes time to honor their warranty--not this one. Sometimes it does pay to go with a local company that has a great rating!

I had Ben out to the house in October to give me a quote. They gave me a great price and because the Vytex windows were going to have to be specially manufactured with my dark bronze outside color, it would be about 6 weeks for the windows to come. As soon as they were in, we arranged a date for them to come out. It had to be delayed by a day because of rain that week, but it worked out fine for me. The workers came on a Thursday morning and I hadn't yet finished moving everything out of the window areas. They took over and removed blinds and drapes, moved furniture, etc. They got most of the work finished in that same day (2 sliding glass door units and 5 other window units) but ran out of daylight for some outside finishing work. They re-hung my blinds, installed some molding around the new sliding glass door units, and showed me how all of the screens and locks worked.They came back on the following Monday for the outside work (basically just some caulking) that was left over. The only glitch was that one of the windows ordered was the wrong type of window, but they ordered the right one and came out to replace it as soon as it was ready which was a very quick job. All in all, a good experience. No complaints. I'd definitely recommend American.

Overall, the job went reasonably well with two exceptions: - two of the windows were the wrong size and had to be re-ordered. This delayed completion of the project by 3-4 weeks. The 5 windows that were initially installed were extremely well done. - a different crew installed the final 2 windows and the front window was out of plumb by 1/2-1 inch. It was readily apparent to the naked eye, and should have been noticed/corrected by the crew when they were caulking the exterior of the window. Jim was extremely responsive in correcting the situation and completing a quality job, but the two issues made a 1-day installation last several weeks. A little more attentiveness by the second installer would have turned this into an "A" job across the board.

They did a great job and we love our new door.

The work done and the clean up went very well. My small problem with one of my windows was handled within a few days. I rate this company in the techinical areas as A. I had some small communication issues that would not interfer with my using this company again. Although, I believe the company should give attention to their notification and call back procedures.

We obtained three bid estimates. One from major chain home improvement store, a second from non-local installer based on a neighbor's recommendation and a third with a local dealer/installer. The chain-store rep was working off a script and offered the lowest price but with the least quality product. The non-local installer came to the house in order to prepare his estimate. After a week of not hearing from him, I called his home office in Maryland to discover he was no longer employed and had not prepared an estimate. Ben Beltran of American Windows & Siding of VA was the local installer and he came to the house to view the home for his estimate. His firm carries most of the major lines of replacement window, so we were able to discuss the strong and weak points of each of the produces we were considering. We visited his shop to get a better idea of the different windows types. His bid was realistic and we placed the order to install 15 replacement windows. On the scheduled installation date two crews showed up just before 8 AM. Two crews worked the first day to actually install all of the window. The second and last day one crew finished up the installation. Ben came over several times during the installation. His crew chief supervised the actual installation. Before leaving the house on the first day, the crew cleaned up the area to the point that you could not tell they had been there. By mid-afternoon of the second day the installation was completed. Ben checked with us to make sure everything was done correctly and that we had no problems or concerns and that we were completely satisfied with the job. We would use American Windows again.

From start to finish, we had a great experience with American Windows & Siding. They came prepared during the sales call and brought their best price. On installation day, they sent a hard working crew that finished the job efficiently and left a spotless work area. We were especially impressed with the fitting and tight seals around each Vytex window. This summer, we had a full energy audit completed on our home. During the pressurized test, the thermal imaging photographs showed that American Windows & Siding did a quality job with the insulation and caulking.
