Description of Work: A garbage service is a garbage service, right? I thought so until a guy from American Trash came around an offered to save us something $400/year on our service. WHOA! Sounds good to us. Of course he also promised us that American would pick up anything that one man could lift for no extra charge. Well, that proved to not be the case, but they are still saving us money. I called AAA to cancel service and pick up their containers. Three weeks and three calls later and the containers are still here. Maybe LOTS of folks canceling service? Anyway, we're getting a better deal at American.

Description of Work: On August 21, 2009, we set out our AAA trash can for pickup like we have ever since we became customers of AAA many years ago. This time we put in the can the three yellow recycling bins that we decided to return after having been issued a new recycling bin by AAA. Our trash can was removed. When we came home from work it was gone. Presumably, AAA picked it up along with the three recycling bins, apparently thinking we were ending our service. No other AAA trash cans were removed from our street. We have never had our AAA trash can go missing before. On Monday, August 24, 2009, I called to request the can to be replaced. AAA courteously offered to do so by Thursday 8/27. However, no can was delivered. This morning my husband called to ask for a replacement trash can. Unfortunately, after waiting on hold for 10 minutes for a "customer service" representative, he was subjected to insulting, arrogant treatment by an individual who identified himself only as a Mr. "Ostar." Mr. Ostar demanded proof that the can had been removed by AAA and refused to listen to my husband's request for a replacement can. He then demanded we pay over $100 for a replacement can. When my husband asked to speak to a supervisor, Mr. Ostar initially refused, then said he would only put through my husband message to voicemail. My husband did leave a message for this "supervisor," though we're not at all confident that is who Mr. "Ostar" connected him with. Both my husband and I have worked in customer relations all our professional careers, and all I can say is, Mr. "Ostar's" behavior was a good example of exactly how a customer service representative should not behave towards a longstanding customer. Incidentally, when I called on Monday, August 24th for a replacement trash can last week, the customer service representative I spoke with did not demand proof of how the can disappeared, nor did he say anything about our being responsible for the cost of a replacement can. He only told me that a new can would be delivered on Thursday, August 27th, which did not happen.

+ -1 morePretty good. Always takes large items when we leave them out without extra charge. Always on time and on schedule, even picking up on holidays. Recently gave us separate recycling containers that hold a lot more and they no longer require separating glass, plastic and paper.

+ -1 moreInconsistent pricing from house to house, always increasing. Twice as costly as company I switched to recently. Occasionally passed without collecting, phone call usually brought a truck the next business day or 2. Failed to send bill periodically and hassled me "for not paying." Sometimes claimed unpaid before the mail delivered it to me; no automatic charge plan for credit cards.

+ -1 moreService was fine until I told them I was going to drop their services to go with a cheaper alternative. They then told me they would match ANY bid to keep me, however, they previously had continued to raise my rates before I told them I was going to use another services. AAA then imposed an undisclosed fee of $45 to pick up their trash can and then charged me $25 to clean their trash can. Took almost two full months before they refunded my overpayment. I believe they were simply being vindictive and jerks trying to punish me for dropping their company for a cheaper alternative.
Description of Work: Typical twice a week residential trash removal.

+ -1 moreRocky at the start. They missed the recycle pick ups a lot though they've never missed a normal trash pick up without good reason. After about six months I started calling in every time a pick up was missed and became a little more aggressive (less patient) with the services phone support staff by doing such things as reminding them that the recycling hadn't been picked up for two weeks in a row, or that the recycling pick up had been missed three out of the past four weeks, etc... After I got the recycling service sorted out, they haven't missed a pick up of any type in more that a year. Good company, low prices. They do credit your bill for missed pickups if you notify them promptly so even when a pickup is missed, it's not as if they're taking your money too.

+ -1 moreThey come quickly and I am very impressed with the service. They are hard working and the price is reasonable as well. They are good and we pay for the service every three months. We would highly recommend them to other people.
Description of Work: We have them pick up our garbage/recycling a total of four times a week. The pick-up for two of the times is for the garbage, once a week for recycling, and once a week for the yard debris.
