AAA Recycling & Trash Removal

The performance of this company, now Republic services has steadily deteriorated. They sloppy, they fail to address problems when told about them, and promised services may or may not be performed.

I started with AAA about 4 months ago. So far my impression of them is absolutely terrible. I was told a nice HOA price on the phone and signed a contract for it (which was filled with typos and mis-dated). I had to send it and call several times for them to acknowledge receipt. Then they didn't deliver my cans when promised. Several calls later and a more than a week went by before they mysteriously turned up one day. Even though in my area I can have 5 bags of trash in addition to the can for pick-up, the local driver has been increasingly intransigent about picking up anything but what's in the can. After this happening many times in a row, I called to complain and have been told that "they're going to pick it up tomorrow." Yeah, we'll see. Meanwhile, my first bill was filled with inflated costs and random fees that quadrupled my contracted rate. Obviously I called to dispute it. After three months of refusing to pay any of their illegitimate claims, they referred me to collections after multiple threats of doing so. I still did not pay and they finally got the message. They dropped my bill to the agreed upon rate and billed me for the next quarter at the agreed upon rate - which I paid immediately. I'm doing my part AAA... try conducting your business with a modicum of decency and meet me half way, will ya?

We terminated several years of service with AAA due to recent lack of customer service (missed pickups, no response to email or phone complaints) and prices that kept increasing. The agent I spoke to said our account was paid up to 5/31/13, they would pick up trash on that day and also remove the bins, and the account was closed. They did pick up the trash then, and came for the bins several days later. Late June we received a notice (dated June 21) that our account was past due in the amount of $33.04. No information given except a reference to invoice dated 5/13/13, which was for future service beginning 6/1 and had no $33 charge. I mailed a return letter asking to have the record corrected. August 15 we received a Final Notice that the matter is being referred to collection agency (no other contact). I called and was told that it is a charge for the month of June because they picked up the bins then (altho they said they would get them in May) - or that it's a termination charge, they didn't seem sure. They don't seem to care what previous agents have said - just recite policy. Previous experience and this one have convinced me there is no point in talking further with their "customer service". I will pay the bill to avoid further hassle but want this on the record for other potential customers.

I needed new trash removal services. after several quotes over the phone, I picked AAA. they offered $81 per quarter and new trash and recycle bins. I paid over the phone $81 for the first quarter and thought I won't see a bill for a while. boy I was wrong, a first bill soon arrived and we were floored to see a $200+ charge. after numerous phone calls (each wait time of 15 - 30 mins) someone finally offered to fix the error and credit the account. 3 months later, I realized that they have not completely fix the error. there is still a fee not credited. So I called again, the service rep put me on hold and after 10 minutes+ wait, the line got disconnected or so I like to think. I called back and talked to another service rep. after repeating the same information again, I was put on hold yet again. He came back and told me the problem is fixed. then he asked me if I have called earlier to another rep. I said yes I did. he sound annoyed like I have wasted his time and told me do not call about the same issue again. AAA is getting a B in quality because they have removed trash and recycle items on time most of the time. all other aspects of the service is awful. and trust me, I am not a picky person. and I have hired 2 trash companies before I moved to VA. all have been excellent in both customer service and on time trash removal, for 1/4 of the price AAA is charging. I do not know who AAA is hiring and how they are trained, but they will sure lose me as customer as soon as the contract expires.

AAA used to be the only service in the neighborhood until last fall when American started servicing houses on the street. AAA immediately started trying to renegotiate contracts. A salesman contacted me with a contract at $96/quarter to match American versus approximately $179 per quarter that AAA charged previously. Additionally, he offered a new recycling bin on wheels to replace the small, broken ones I had which apparently should have been offered to me long before. It was delivered promptly. They also indicated that if I chose to terminate my contract there would be a $45 clean out fee for my 15-year old garbage bin that had never been upgraded! I returned the contract to AAA. They had no record of it and billed me in December 2012 for the higher price. When I sent them a PDF they indicated that it was too late to adjust the bill and that if I did not pay I would be turned over to a collection agency. I paid the bill and immediately confirmed that I was due a credit on the bill and confirmed by $96 per quarter rate with no add-ons for other charges. I received my March bill to find an approximately $30 additional charge for "environmental" or some such charge. Once again, I called them and spoke to two different people in the accounting office, pointed them to the contract. This time they were able to adjust the bill and I paid only the amount that should have been due, including the credit from the prior bill. Only the second person was pleasant and took care of the problem. My issue is not with the line workers who pick up the trash and recycling. I have never had an issue with them. It is the management and billing that created my annoyance with the company. That is why I have not cancelled the contract.

The service went fine for awhile. Then every once in awhile they would pick up the recycling but not the trash. I would have to call the company to ask why and then they said they would send someone out as soon as possible. This worked for the first couple times they forgot to pick our trash. Then we went on vacation and when we came back they didn't pick up the trash or recycling on the scheduled days. So we had to call each time. This got annoying after awhile, calling when we wanted our trashed picked up. I will give credit to the customer service representatives at the company. Each time I called they were very professional and listened to what I had to say. I just wish their actual service was as good as their customer service. I eventually found another trash company. One that was a family owned company, and a little cheaper in price. I would have stayed with AAA however I simply got tired of calling every week when they didn't pick up my trash. Once or twice is fine but every time was getting a little annoying.

Told I have to pay through the entire month when I wanted to terminate service in mid month. No credit offered. How lucrative for company! Very, very disappointed with this situation after 30 years!

They are very neat. They are very regular and comes threes times every Wednesday for trash, recycling etc. The drivers and the side guys are always exceptionally pleasant and they are careful when they drive because there is lots of kids and pets in this neighborhood and they have always very careful.

They are a bad, bad company. They are lazy. They just come out here and pick the trash can up, dump the trash in the truck and if the wind was blowing they don't even pick up the papers that are blowing around. They don't care they are just there for the paycheck. They show up when they want to.

See above. AAA extorted $27 from me.

I have been using them for about 20 years. They are consistent and always come on time. They have been very judicious about raising their prices and have tried not to raise them. They are very responsive.

They offered us a 3 year agreement for $27/month. We do not want to sign this until they do what they are supposed to do. They have missed picking up our trash several times. You never get the same answer from them and when you call them they want you to talk to a supervisor, but the supervisor never answers or returns your phone calls. They aren't nice on the phones and they tell me they have no record of previous calls even though the calls are supposed to be recorded.

Be sure to shop prices for trash companies there is a BIG difference. AAA charges at least $36 more a quarter than other reputable companies. I had been a loyal customer for years until I recently moved. They charge a reconditioning fee of $38 when you end your trash service with them, they over charge you compared to other companies and they take over 3 week to pick up their trash cans from the old house. I even tried to have them pick them up the cans from the new house and they refused even though they pick up in this neighborhood. I would NEVER use this company again

They are prompt. They just do a good job. I pay them every quarter. I feel their pricing is a little high. They are very good to do business with.

I definitly would not use them again...After this experience, I would rather drive to the dump myself. My new trash service has been fine.

Their customer service is just awful! I've had to call them multiple times to get my recycle picked up, to which they would squarely try to place blame on me by saying things like, "Well did you have it out first thing in the morning, it wouldn't have been missed if you did." Yes.. I do.. every evening before trash pick up I put out my trash and recycle. Then when they finally send someone to get my stuff they seem annoyed that they have to dump my trash and recycle in the back of their pick up truck. The cans are always half hazardly thrown about. But here's where the story gets interesting, it's no doubt that there are many competitors out there that are all itching for my dollar. Well The first time one came knocking at the door I called AAA and they were more than happy to knock down my rate and "lock it" for a year. Well.. fast forward 6 months and my bill was scheduled to go up by $4.. So much for locking it in.. But whatever the price was still ok and it wasn't worth the "reconditioning fee" to switch services. So fast forward another month or two, another competitor knocks at my door and gives me their pamphlet. it's 2 bucks cheaper a month, I call again, and this time AAA "Can't do anything about it", and "I'm more than welcome to go, but the can reconditioning fee will cost more than I'd save." That's a pretty awesome way to bully your customers.. So I stick around (because why foolishly waste money). Well.. Fast forward to today.. I got a flier in the mail from a competitor for a vastly lower rate (About a week ago).. On top of that on the same day I got a message from AAA saying my cost was going up $4! Now we're talking a $14 a month difference in cost, so I call AAA again today to see what can be done. First.. I don't sound like a woman, but get called ma'am the entire time (Even after correcting them). Second telling them about the deal they flat out say, "we can lock you in for a year at $61" That's $21 a month, that does not even come close to the $10.99 of the competitor.. What a deal! When I explain again the competitor is offering $10.99 and and 21 bucks a month is unacceptable, they say, "well there's nothing we can do for you." So you know what AAA.. I'm done with you.. We'll finish out this month we paid for and we'll kick you to the curb like the waste you are. I see why AAA is a trash company.. It's not that they pick up and deal with trash.. It's the fact that the company itself is trash.

.About two years ago I was enticed by another company that went from door to door by getting a month of free trash removal and reduction in price. They were horrible so I went back to triple A because they have good drivers. I put trash out and the crows got to it. There was trash all over the front of my the house and instead of leaving it the driver picked it up. It was really impressive. There were dirty diapers and everything else in that trash. I realize there is a difference and the difference is the drivers and people that work for the company. It's not always about the money. Thats why I went back to triple A and have not changed even though I've been encouraged and enticed to change for pricing.

It was like slamming my head up against a brick wall, figuratively.

Will never use them again. Shop around and you'll see how expensive they are for what they do! You will pay less than half they charge for the SAME identical service!

I was a customer for over 14 years with AAA. It came to my attention that they charged me $169 for the same service they charged my neighbor only $59 per quarter. He was not a new customer- they have lived next to me for 6 years If you don't like being over charged $400 a year, I suggest you go with their competitor. I left 3 phone messages with their manager and he never returned my call. To add further to my disappointment, they sent me a threatening collections letter for $26.23. This apparently was for picking up their 14 year old trash can, even though they had been overcharging me $400 per year for many years. I never agreed to pay this and they never once sent me a bill for it. They jumped right to the collections letter. In summary, will they pick up your trash? Yes. But in my experience they will over charge you almost 200% more than their competitor. If you call to speak with a manager, you will not get a return phone call. And then they will charge you to pick up the 14 year old trash can even if you did not agree to pay this fee. And you will get a threatening collection letter which could put your credit score in jeopardy.

They told my landlord that they would give me - the incoming tenant - the same rate that the landlord was paying. But they quoted me the "newcomer" rate and wouldn't budge. When I called to cancel service, after the first month, and told them why I was canceling, then they agreed to match the rate. I refused to stay with them. Then they began billing me a restocking fee, a standard fee I'm sure but for a few weeks of service, that was the last straw. I wrote a letter - no response. The computer-generated bills continued. I call several times, even left messages for a supervisor to call me back - no response. Finally, I received a dunning notice from a collection agency - called AAA again today and received no satisfaction. I gave in and paid the fee, which is undoubtedly what they wanted, but I will never use their services again and will never recommend them.

We terminated our contract 2 months early and were told we would receive a refund minus $25 for refurbishing the trash bin which was in excellent condition. They took 2 months to pick-up their garbage container and assured us each time we called that the refund would be paid. There is still no refund and it has been 4 months since any service has been provided and they are essentially stealing.

I initially hired AAA for dumpster service in August. The service started off fine. It quickly turned worse once I began receiving invoices. To get service, AAA requires that you enroll in auto-pay. AAA would charge fees to my account prior to me receiving invoices. Once I received invoices, I saw that I was being overcharged. I contacted the accounting department, and the person I spoke with couldn't even tell me what some of the charges were for. It took over a week to straighten out my account and get AAA to acknowlegde that they owed me a credit for over $100. The following day, AAA charged another amount from my account not taking into consideration the credit they owed me. I tried to disenroll from autopay and they refused to do it. I dropped their service and went with another company. AAA even overcharged me on the last invoice. I am still trying to get this straightened out. Overall, the experience was extremely frustrating. When I first hired AAA, I got the impression that billing was simple - one price for dumping/delivery. There were several additional fees (high fuel & environmental charges and rental fees) on each invoice. In addition, they somehow seemed to charge an overweight limit for each dumping. In a period of 3 months, I spent almost $3000. There is no clear billing with AAA. They charge your account and then try to explain the fees later. I was very disappointed and would not use AAA again. There are several other dumpster services that provide better prices and guarantee no additional fees.

They are good and they deal with the trash in the surroundings well. We separate the trash to paper, glass, plastic etc. Their price is fair and I would hire them in the future.

We finally canceled our service with AAA Trash because their prices were increasing on a fairly regular basis. It was very difficult to cancel the service. We received a statement for $100 because they didn't have it recorded that they picked up our bins. Additionally we were billed for three months after we had canceled our service.
