Timely, professionally and they cleaned up very well after the project was complete.
Description of Work: The company serviced and installed my new Trane heating and air conditioning unit. The service of the installation was professional and the servicemen were friendly. As an owner whom enjoys understanding the process, they answered all of my questions including questions about preventative maintenance. I purchased the unit through the sales staff Johnny and he personally inspected the completed project. I recommend their services and their products. I am very pleased with this business.

Everything went well. The technicians (Kevin and Joe) introduced themselves at the door and were true professionals. They explained everything they were doing throughout the procedure. They even had shoe covers to put on when they came into the house to prevent carrying in dirt.
Description of Work: The technicians found a blown transformer. The 24 volt fuse was ok, but not the other. The problem must have been caused by a power surge. The technician replaced the transformer and the problem was fixed.

Blue Ridge Heating & Air has certified HVAC technician(s) and the very latest in diagnostic equipment. You might find cheaper HVAC companies, but none as experienced, honest and highly trained. We bought this rental condo last Dec. and figure the owner had not had any HVAC service in a couple years. We called Blue Ridge Heating & Air in July when the tenants changed, and the condo was vacant for two weeks. The heat pump is 23 years old, and with our new maintenance contract with Blue Ridge Heating & Air and their experienced technicians, it should keep ticking for a long time yet. We owned a downtown inn with three buildings and three HVAC systems for 17 years. When we purchased it in 1994, Blue Ridge Heating & Air installed A/C in the main house, circa 1929. They maintained all our HVAC equipment and responded at all times of day or night, weekend or not, to assist, repair, advise, etc. Wonderful family owned business. We believe in doing things right the first time with quality and expertise, and these guys will do that every time.
Description of Work: Blue Ridge Heating & Air arrived with a certified technician and the very latest in diagnostic equipment. Impressive tools, instruments and equipment. He was extremely thorough -- under my husband's watchful eye. We paid for a coil cleaning and some capacitor replacements. We also bought the maintenance plan. He checked everything there is to check, slowly, methodically, carefully. These guys are expert in everything they do.

It went well. They were at my house a few minutes earlier than when they said they would be there, which to me was very efficient. Many service providers tend to make you wait for hours until they show up. I signed up for a second check in the fall which reduced the cost of this call. Coincidentally, we had a problem with our fire alarm system giving us false alarms the evening after they came. I traced it down to possible dust being dislodged into our water heater stack after they had to move the pipe to fix a leak in our nearby heat pump condensate pipe. When I called the next day they were out to our house in a flash. It turned out to be unrelated to the dust but they carefully checked out the system again at no charge and relieved my concerns over the problem being related to the previous day's service call. I have dealt with Blue Ridge for years and they are a first class outfit! They installed our Trane system 8 years ago and they have always been very efficient, friendly, and dependable. I recommend them highly!
Description of Work: They did a system tuneup and repaired a leak in our heat pump condensate pipe.

I can't praise them enough! They always do a thorough check of my unit and they'll usually find the smallest problems that could lead to bigger issues in the future. They're also very honest. I mentioned I was having a strange cough lately and he actually found some mold in the unit and said that's likely the cause and got that cleaned up.

The following day, the technician called me and said that his manager had reviewed the questionnaire I filled out and the quote the technician gave me and discovered that I had been given some incorrect pricing. The capacitors and coil cleanings could be done for $658, rather than $1,029. I told him I was still getting quotes and would get back to him. I called Don Driver, from Don Driver Residential Repair, who has done work for me multiple times over the last 25 years. I should have just called him in the first place, but the $39.99 sounded so good. Don was backed up and it took him a couple of weeks to get here, but it was worth the wait. He checked each of the three units inside and out. I climbed into the attic and the crawl space to look at the coils and verify what he was telling me. On the inside, the upstairs unit, which is used the most, did have some dirt on the coils, but it was not "completely clogged" as the BHR&A technician had told me and Don cleaned those coils. The downstairs unit had very little dirt on the coils, but he did clean them. The addition unit had completely dirt-free coils, so nothing was done on that unit. There was some mold in the upstairs unit and he treated that. The downstairs unit had a few dark specs that could have been mold and he treated that. The addition unit was completely clean - no treatment needed. On the outside units, he cleaned all the coils and checked the refrigerant levels - the upstairs unit required 14 ounces; the other two units were fine. He agreed wtih the BRH&A technician that the motors and compressors were fine. After I first called Don about the situation and told him about the capacitors, he decided to do some research. He called a manufacturer and a friend who owns a local, well-known HVAC company. Both of them told him that, because of governmental regulations, capacitors are not made as well as they used to be. He said that the capacitors I have could very well be better than new ones. He recommended that we leave well enough alone. The BRH&A technician told me that bad capacitors could damage the motor and/or compressor. Don told me that when the capacitors fail and people leave their units running, hoping that they will fix themselves, that can cause the compressors to overheat. So, word to the wise: if your air conditioner is not cooling, don't run it, call for help. The final bill from Don was $284. I had checked Angie's List for BRH&A and saw the comments about the pricing being high. I mentioned that in the questionnaire I filled out. Perhaps that had something to do with the phone call from BRH&A with the corrected, much-lower quote. Could the corrected quote have been offered in hopes that I would no longer feel the need to get other quotes . . . from people who would look at the units and see that coils were not clogged and mold did not exist? Who's to say, and where is Chris Hansen when you need him?!?!?!?
Description of Work: I have 3 heat pumps in my house: upstairs, downstairs, and in the newer addition. The upstairs and downstairs units are used only for air conditioning and the downstairs is rarely used at all. The addition unit is used for both heating and cooling. Last year the upstairs unit worked, but it didn't cool as well as it had in the past. I saw the Blue Ridge Heating & Air advertisement on TV for a $39.99 tune up (each unit). I thought that was a good deal and filled out a service request on their web site. It took several days for someone to call me. We set a time; the technician was running a little late, but did call to tell me. When he arrived, he did wear the booties inside the house as advertised. The technician was very nice and professional; said he had been doing this type of work for 6 years. Since the units had some years on them, I decided to have them all "tuned up." After checking the three inside units and the three outside units, the technician told me that the Freon level was fine, the motors and compressors were fine. However, all three units needed new capacitors - that's 6 capacitors. In addition, the coils on each unit needed to be cleaned - one was completely blocked. The quote to fix these items was $1,029.00, which was a $160 savings over the regular price of $1,189. Finally, he had found mold in all three units. There were two options to fix these problems. Mold treatment at $717.00 or installation of UV lights at $1,197 or $1,587, depending upon the warranty I chose. With this amount of money, I felt I had to get a couple more quotes, so I paid him for the tune-ups, filled out the questionnaire he gave me, and he left.

Overall it went well. The only complaint was that the service people were an hour and a half late for the appointment which didn't present a problem for me as I was home anyway. However it would have been better if they had called to let me know that they would be late. When they got here they were very professional, friendly, and worked efficiently. They problem-solved well and resolved all issues. When I got the bill it was higher than I had been quoted and I called the company to ask for a breakdown of charges. I wanted to make sure I wasn't being charged from the time the appointment had been originally set for since the work didn't start until 1 1/2 hours after that. The owner called me back and we talked about it and he reviewed the account and lowered the price to be more in line with the quote. I appreciated his willingness to revisit this and offer a good deal. All around, I felt very happy with the service they provided me and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: I had holes in my exhaust ducting that were found by my gas company. I called Blue Ridge Heating & Air and the owner came out to inspect and gave me an estimate. The service people came out within a week to replace the exhaust ducts and correct the rise on the ducts to specs. All new pipes were put in.

BRH&A had provided a quote for my boiler replacement, which I agreed to. The price was competitive, but not much less than others. One week before the job was to begin the owner Bobby Martin called to say he had dismissed his former employee and would not honor the quote provided. The new price was going to be almost TWICE as much, which made it far in excess of the others. This was unacceptable, and I was not going to concede to an excessive revised quote at the last minute. This left me without heat at a time when weather was getting very cold, and finding a replacement was going to be very difficult because most decent contractors were already booked heading into the holidays. The month I waited for the project to begin could have been used to secure another contractor, had I been informed early. From my perspective this was completely UNETHICAL and unprofessional and should be noted by anyone considering this company. As an Engineer and someone working in the construction field, I was stunned by the mismanagement and lack of integrity shown.

The entire Blue Ridge team has prerformed with excellence. The installation and integration these systems was complicated, and required much coordination between different trades (electricians, concrete, carpenters, etc.). Each installation of geothermal systems is unique and there was much fine-tuning and adjustment necessary over a year's time, including work with technicians from the manufacturers representatives for the Water Furnace and for the Generac/Eaton standby power units. At each turn of events, Blue Ridge management, supervisors and technicans kept me fully informed and were fully responsive to my interest, inquires, suggestions and need for counsel and coaching into operations and maintenance. The hydronic (radiant floor) manifold system is a work of art, carefully installed for good appearance, ease of access for monitoring performance and maintenance. These folks carry top-of-the-line products, are technically competent to handle all HVAC challenges, persistent in search of practical solutions, and provide reliable and timely service. We still have a few operational and fine-tuning issues to monitor for possible resolution under the Water Furnace warranty, and I have every confidence that Blue Ridge H&A will see these through to optimum efficacy and efficiency of the systems they have installed for me.
Description of Work: Bule Ridge H&A was retained by my building contractor to install in Wythe County, VA a 6-T Water Furnace Synergy 3d Geothermal Heat Pump with Water Heating for Radiant Floor Applications. Also, I purchased a Generac 20KW Standby Power Genrator and a Nature's Comfort NCB-250 Wood Boiler to integrate into the Water Furnace HVAC and DHW systems and to use a separate heat exchanger to heat the garage.

This was a maintenance visit that ended up costing me much more than I expected. The technician was very polite and seemed to be honest. He almost immediately said that I needed a UV light system installed for the black mold in the upstairs in the unit. That was 599.00. It took him over 3 hours to install. After reading the reviews here, I wonder if that is the latest gimmick they are installing. Seems they are installing a lot of them. Anyway, when he tested the outside unit, I needed a 150.00 capacitor which I fortunately have an extended warranty for. Well I guess I do, I am waiting for the office to call me to verify that it was covered. They were closed when he got to that issue. I have used Blue Ridge for a number of years. I will continue to use them, but I do wonder sometimes if they have a quota of things to install.

We are very satisfied with them. They were very helpful as far as the billing goes. It was between $800 and $1000 that I needed to pay and they let me make the payment in installments. They broke it down for me so that I could make monthly payments. They were very nice. They checked everything as far as the lines. My system had black mold in it and they found it. My son called them up because I needed somebody to check my system. They come out for $99 and check the entire system. They will offer you a discounted price. When they found all the problems, they were very helpful in making the payment arrangements with me. They were prompt too. I called them and they were there that afternoon.

It is a special light that is supposed to keep the mold from progressing. My overall experience with them went fairly well. They were satisfactory and everything went fine. They did not leave a mess. They come out twice every year to do the inspection. They are fine and I would recommend them. They do a good job. They are very easy to work with and they are good people. It is hard for me to comment on the quality of their work as I don't know much about the air conditioning units. Their responsiveness is very good. I cannot remember if they showed up on time or not but if they didn't then they would have called me.

I spent exactly $128 for about 5 minutes worth of work. I called them and described the symptoms of my heating system. The service technician lived not too far from where I live. I asked him to schedule me for the afternoon and I told him to come in at his convenience since the heating system was still working. He then came in at his convenience. I described the symptoms to him when he got there in a truck. He said he knew what the problem was. He got out and took out his tools. He then went to the basement and he was finished in five minutes. He didn?t give me a bill and he told me that a bill would be mailed to me. However, I was astounded when the bill was mailed to me. They charged $78 as transportation fee just for him to get here, but I had made arrangement so that the guy could go home after he was finished. So I called the owner and I was told that it was their standard charge. The charges were exorbitant and the owner had no information to even talk to me. The technician did good work though. He also got there when he said he was going to. I would not use their services in the future.
