Very well. Purchased the house in fall of 2015 and hadn't had any issues with the AC. However, during the recent heat wave, the AC wasn't able to keep up. Went through the system and found that the dampers were set up to channel most of the air downstairs. Fixed the damper location. Also reviewed the entire system for issues.

Our heat pump stopped working and I called Stokely's to make an appointment for them to come check it out. Keith came out and was on time, courteous and informative. He did a thorough inspection of the heat pump and found that the compressor had failed and that there was a leak in the copper line. He also informed me that our compressor was undersized. Keith contacted Rob, who gave us a couple of options for whether we wanted to fix the existing heat pump or replace it. We haven't made a decision yet, but I wanted to write a review to say thanks to Rob. I've inundated him with questions over the last few days and he was very responsive, honest and thorough in his explanations. His prices are more than fair, and it's refreshing to deal with a local company that is straight forward and doesn't rely on high-pressure sales tactics like other un-named companies.

Thank you very much for the nice comments. I've never understood the high pressure techniques that some companies or sales people use. Yes I understand that their goal is to sell you something so they get their commission but we simply won't conduct business that way. We try to provide the best possible service possible and give honest straightforward answers when asked questions. I think people appreciate that approach. Thanks again for the nice review.

I understand your frustration but there is no way that we can check out a unit that is not functioning. Your a/c system was completely out of gas. To turn on the unit at that point would only cause more damage. I am surprised to hear that you found a company to do the repairs for less. To be clear, you needed to [Member Information Removed] a leak search done on your refrigerant circuit. We quoted you to do the job for "time and material" thinking that it should be around $250 or less. I am unaware of any company that does this work on time and material. The other companies usually charge a MINIMUM of $500 to find the leak. I [Member Information Removed] always had a problem with doing the job like this. Usually we can find the leak in under an hour: I simply cannot justify asking someone for $500 when it took us under an 1 hour with no real materials. 1 hour of labor would be $72 dollars plus the initial $59. You don't offer any reason for why you gave us a D in punctuality or responsiveness. I do know that we were out there the week that the summer weather finally showed up (on 5/27/16) and every company in the area was swamped. According to our records we went out to your house the same day that you called which was in fact the Friday before the Memorial Day weekend. I thought we did pretty good: all things considered. I am happy about the other grades and I thank you for them. I am also happy to see that you would consider hiring us again.

Thank you so much fr the great report card. I know that we were able to get out to your house the same day that you called but I wanted to get out there sooner. I remember that you have a 5 year old with [Member Information Removed] that was suffering because it was so hot. Unfortunately, the closest tech was quite a distance from you and already had other calls where the customers had medical conditions. He had to work is way to you. So you know, you are listed in our system as a priority service because of medical condition. This means that you will get priority service during periods of extreme heat. Hopefully next time there won't be others that have medical conditions ahead of you: it was quite unusual to have so many but the weather was extremely hot.

Great service and great price! My technician was on time and he was very professional. An all around great person! The entire clean and recharge took about one hour. Our AC was running but it clearly needed a recharge after sitting unused for over a year while the house sat on the market. The AC works great now and I couldn't be happier with the service. Will likely do this deal once a year if they still offer it to keep things running smoothly. Highly recommended!

I am so happy to hear that you were pleased with our services and I am thrilled to hear that you will continue to use our services. Please remember though that you should not have to add refrigerant to your [Member Information Removed]. You have a pretty decent brand that is only 6 years old: I am concerned that it already has a refrigerant leak in it. Please keep an eye on it and let us know if you see ice on the unit or if it is not able to maintain the temperature. Those are 2 obvious signs that your [Member Information Removed] is low on refrigerant again. If this happens you should consider having us check for a refrigerant leak. Thanks for the great review. :)

Appeared to be good, but finally results were bad
Description of Work: HVAC Tuning. Ay the end of the job realized that technician did not clean the clogged drain pipe, did not perform any of the the big list of parameters that they claim to perform as part of fine tuning, also there was piece of cloth in the drain the pipe which was not removed during the tuning process and so it continued to cause the overflow of condensate into condensate tray and ceiling. Not aware of the bad job at that time, subsequently called them again for an emergency situation where heating failed in winter. They did not fix the issue and the solution proposed was to replace the Heat exchanger as it is cracked - estimate of cost $2500.00 or even more. I called another technician and they fixed the issue with 75.00 dollars - the other company said the heat exchanger is in perfect working condition, they also said that it is one part that failed and the replacement cost they charged including labor is $75.00 only. See the difference !!!

I have to admit that I am baffled by this subscriber. He originally posted a negative review last year and said he would not use us again because we were too expensive. He actually replaced that review with this one. Now he claims that we did not perform all the work on the original call but never bothered to say anything to the tech on his second visit. If he did not clear the drain line he would have water coming out and onto the ceiling yet there was no damage stated by him or noted by the tech. I feel our prices our right in line (or lower than our competition). He calls us back out after supposedly finding out the tech did not do the work and even had water damage. Why call us back then? But he does call and he had no heat and kept saying how much he trusts us. The same tech that he is talking about has many positive reviews on Angie's List. My technician found a burnt wire (as in burnt by a flame). He repaired it and turned the system on. Flames were rolling out of heat exchanger which indicates a crack in the heat exchanger. My tech saw a crack and showed it to him. As the unit was approximately 20 years old, past it's life expectancy, and in poor condition we recommended replacing the furnace. We quoted $750 to replace the heat exchanger and $2,100 for a new unit. I am not sure where he got his prices from, but the tech wrote the quoted prices on his service ticket. I am not sure who or what another company did for $75 as he has offered no proof. He did however tell my tech that he was going to call his home warranty company as he only had to pay a $75 deductible. If he called or wrote and stated his claims as well as substantiating them I would happily refund his money, fix any damage, and fire the tech. I know that if I had that kind of experience with any company I would at least call to complain and see what was going to be done about it. The customer has not provided any documentation to substantiate his claims and this is the 1st time that I have heard any of it. I should have refused to go back the 2nd time after reading his original review: I won't make the same mistake again.

Rob came over to assess my 20+ year old system which was definitely out of Freon and just blowing room temp air. I had it previously "repaired" by another company and that repair lasted less than a month. Rob gave me several options to choose from and with the thorough explanation he provided, I chose what was right for my home. They were not able to replace the units until the following week but gave me the option of either having window units or adding Freon to ensure I wouldn't bake until the were able to install the new units. I opted for the Freon and Rob assured me that if I ran out, they would come over and place more Freon until the scheduled install date. On the day of install, the crew arrived on time and I was given advanced notice of their arrival. The men were courteous, professional, and efficient. They gave me an estimated completion time but were finished before the estimated time. They also cleaned up after themselves and left no trash/debris behind. Overall, my experience with Stokley's was great. I find it hard to trust service providers but I trusted Stokley's. I don't feel like I was charged unfairly and I trust that should their be a problem with the new system, they will take care of it immediately. They receive my highest recommendation and recommend them to friends and family.

Thank you very much for the great review and the wonderful praise. We try to get every system changed as quick as possible and sometimes we go to extra measures to keep the system going until we can get to it in order that we can get to a customer that was either ahead in the waiting line or is completely without air conditioning. By waiting for a week, your generosity allowed us to take care of several people that had absolutely no air conditioning at all. It seemed like a good trade to keep your system charged with refrigerant while you waited seemed like a great trade to me. It was very nice meeting you and your dog LaLa (I hope I spelled that correctly). I can tell you that my dogs didn't stop sniffing me for over an hour. :)

It is amazing to me that some technicians will automatically tell you that you need refrigerant with out really checking anything. Unfortunately, I know of several large HVAC contractors (that also do plumbing and electrical work) will send out their plumbers with a jug of refrigerant when they are very busy. I will not mention names but I am sure that you would recognize them. I wonder if this is what happened to you. We only do HVAC work, I promise you that we will never send out a plumber. lol Thank you for the nice grade and review.

Thank you for the nice report card. I've said this before, many companies only pay their technicians by commission. If the tech doesn't sell you something they do not get paid: it's as simple as that. This puts the technician in a bad situation. To the work and not get paid or pretend to find a problem so that they will get paid (usually 30%). Our guys are paid by the hour with a small (2%) commission. Yes they are looking for a possible problem with the [Member Information Removed] as that is what you want us to do. We are trying to prevent a problem from occurring. While your [Member Information Removed] is 17 years old and getting to the life expectancy for that [Member Information Removed] it was working properly. Selling you a part that you didn't goes against our integrity.

I called Stokley's in the afternoon of July 26th because my air conditioner stopped working, and they had a coupon offer for a service call and diagnostic check for $59. They also had an "A" rating on Angie's list with good reviews. Keith came over the next morning (7/27) and quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced a broken part on the spot. My A/C was immediately up & running and my house is cool once again! Keith was punctual, professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and personable. I highly recommend this company, and I will not hesitate to use them again in the future.

Thanks for the nice review and I am especially happy to hear that you were happy with our tech's work. Hopefully the work he did will help you get through the summer but it doesn't look good. Please make plans to replace you system very soon. I am afraid that this heat wave that we are experiencing will push the system past it's limits. With no relief in sight every a/c company is booked solid. You don't want to wait until the system dies and then have to wait a while for the system to be replaced. We are seeing homes of customers where the temperatures INSIDE the house are over 85 degrees. Simply put, this heat wave is brutal: you don't want to be left with no a/c.

I'm glad that you were pleased with our work. You system is starting to fail on you and you would be well advised to be planning on replacing it soon. At the very least I would suggest that you have the system cleaned more often. I never understood why someone would install a dryer vent next to an air conditioner as it helps to clog up the coil. This makes your system work harder and fail more often. I would also suggest that you reroute the dryer exhaust or maybe move / relocate the a/c unit when you replace it.

I was really pleased! They were very prompt in scheduling the service. The technician was courteous, knowledgeable, capable, and thorough. During the course of the check-up, he noted that the condensation line from the air handling unit in the attic over my son's bedroom was actually tilted uphill, preventing the condensation from draining properly. Previously, we had had a HUGE issue with a home warranty company (which we dropped after that experience) over replacing the air handling unit, which had become rusted out. Their inspector had not communicated this to me during the course of my seasonal check-up (which was over $100.00), and consequently, the unit failed. After considerable drama, they paid a small portion towards replacing it, but it appears that in doing so, the line was still at fault, which could have led to a repeat of the rust situation. I'm so grateful that the technician from Stokley's detected this error. He corrected the problem for only $36.00 additional, probably saving me hundreds down the road. (I think it cost in the neighborhood of $600.00 to replace, and it was in the dead of winter with no heat!) Stokley's charged $59.00 for the Big Deal (check-up) and the additional $36.00 to correct the defect. Thank you, Stokely's Services! I'm sure I will be calling you again!

Thank you for taking the time to post your review of our services. I am thrilled to hear that everything went so well and we noticed the problem with the drain line. While I can not say without a doubt that this is what caused the unit to rust prematurely I am fairly confident that it did. It certainly should have been caught by your previous HVAC contractors. I would recommend that you keep having the system serviced with special attention paid to the drain piping. I have already noted this in our computer so we can check it out when we (hopefully) go out next year to perform the maintenance. :)

Hello and thank you for taking the time to post your review. Yes the prices that you state that we quoted you are true and yes I am sure that you could probably get the parts for that amount of money IF you picked it up yourself and put it in yourself. I am positive that no other HVAC contractor would do it for that amount of money. While I would love to give the parts and the labor away I simply cannot do it. We hope to make a profit at the end of the year. We have overhead expenses such as rent, utilities, vehicles, insurance, computers, phones and even cell phones. Then we have to contend with business licenses, contractors licenses, Master's licenses (not to mention the continued education to keep the licenses valid), unemployment insurance, workmen's comp., and don't even get me started on local, state, and federal taxes. Our technicians also require training and continued education. All of these things cost money. I am completely confident that if you call other LICENSED hvac contractors the part in question would cost even more than what we quoted. We are the area's oldest air conditioning and heating contractor. My grandfather started the company in 1938. I assure you that we have not been I business this long by gouging people. On a different note, when we serviced your system last year we told you that it is mismatched, well past it's life expectancy (by over 13 years), and is covered in mold. I'm sorry, but I would advise you to not put any money into the system for repairs. I covered this with you personally when you had me come out for a quote to replace it last year. Any money put into that system would be better applied to a new system.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review. I will be sure to pass on your compliments to the technician that was there. My air conditioning system was cooling only 10-12 degrees below the ambient temperature. Based on recommendations I found on Angie's list and the Stokley's sales coupon, I contacted Stokley's Services. I called the office and scheduled an appointment. The scheduler gave me a window of time and called me on the day of the appointment to let me know that the technician was on his way. Jerry was the technician who was dispatched to answer my call. He was polite, cheerful, and professional. He first examined the air handler in the attic and discovered that it was not draining properly--an unexpected problem. Using equipment, he cleared the drains, and the water in the drain pan gradually emptied. He then noticed an air gap, which he sealed with tape, preventing loss of cool air into the attic. Jerry then checked the condenser unit and added two pounds of refrigerant. I had had the same problem two years ago and knew there was a leak in the system. My system is 17 years old, and Jerry advised me that it would not be cost effective to find and fix the source of the leak. I agreed with him. The coupon price for the service call was $59, which included one pound of refrigerant, and the cost of the second pound was $100 resulting in a total of $159. Jerry impressed me as knowledgeable, professional, competent and polite. I would request him again. Jerry answered all of my questions about air conditioning in general and my system in particular. Upon my request, he provided estimates for the installation of a new system. I was completely satisfied with the service call. My only negative comment is that it cost so much more for the second pound refrigerant than for the first. However, the first pound ws included in the sales price, and the second was not. This may be the standard practice for most HVAC companies. James Buxton

Thank you for the time to share your experience in dealing with our company. Please understand that the going rate for the type of refrigerant you had (R-22) is $90 per pound. Many companies charge more and I am sure that some will charge less. This is why the "Big Deal" is such a good value!!! Our standard trip charge is $75, this does not include servicing the equipment nor does include materials or labor. Please try to look at the price as a positive instead of a negative. With the Big Deal you were only charged $159 that would have cost you over $300 on a standard service call PLUS you got your equipment cleaned and serviced. Fixing the holes was also done free of charge.

The nature of the repair that our tech performed was an indication that your system may be getting ready to die. Granted, it was a quick and inexpensive fix but we don't know if it will last. Please don't wait too long to have it replaced if at all possible. We aren't 1/2 through the summer and I'm afraid that the system will not make it. It is possible that it will so we will keep our fingers crossed. :)

It went very well. I was totally satisfied with my service.
Description of Work: I have a dual-zone AC set up. I purchased two of their Deals for cleaning, servicing and up to 1lb of coolant. One for each unit! I called on a Wednesday to schedule the appointment and they came out on Friday. Technicians came right on time and were very courteous and informative. I watched as they tested and cleaned my units and they answered all of my questions. They also went into the attic to clean and service the air-handlers. They patched a few air leaks as well! I will use Stokley's from now on. HIGHLY recommend.

Thank you for the nice review. Please keep in mind that you system is right at it's average life expectancy (18 years) and you were low on refrigerant. The free pound of refrigerant was able to get one of your systems working as it should but we cannot guarantee how long it will last. A/C systems are sealed which means that you should not have to add refrigerant. If you are adding refrigerant there is a leak present somewhere. Given the fact that your system is 17, it is just not worth the money to try to find and repair the leak. At this point, you are living on borrowed t. It may not be today, tomorrow, next month or even next year but you system will need to be replaced in the very near future.

Thank you for taking the time to share you experience. Your story is a great example of how we treat our customers. We had to order the part for you and it took some time for it to come from the factory. Of course when we finally received the parts you had to endure some very hot weather. The hot weather also had us swamped. Rather than scheduling you for the next week, leaving you without your air conditioning over the weekend, we went out and did the work on Saturday. Normally Saturday would have been on overtime (additional costs). Instead, we got the system up and running that Saturday, we didn't charge any overtime rates, and got your system operational for the original quoted price. I wonder how many other HVAC contractors are willing to eat the additional expense in order to make a new customer happy? I doubt that you could find one. :)

My upstairs air conditioner was blowing warm air so I scheduled Stokely's $59 A/C tune-up special. I used Stokley's last year for my downstairs unit and got great service and pricing so I did not hesitate to use them again. Jerry showed up and had me running in minutes. By the time he came inside to check upstairs it had already cooled 4 degrees. I fully expected to pay additional fees above the $59 special. Grand total out the door......$59. Putting Stokley's contact info into my iPhone now for the future. Thanks Jerry.

Thank you for sharing your story with the other subscribers. Sometimes a repair is so minute that I just can't justify additional charges: this is just an example. I am not sure how it is still working but the air handler for the addition is over 30 years old and well paste it's life expectancy. Please prepare to replace it soon so it doesn't break down when you need it the most.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the other subscribers. Your system is not very old but unfortunately that brand is a problem brand. We have seen to many major repairs with that brand and do not recommend them for that reason. Keeping your system properly maintained may help to keep it working properly but I would not advise making any major repairs to it. Typically speaking, the brand you have has too many repairs and the owners decide to get rid of it long before the 18 year mark (average life expectancy).

Nothing was done, other than accepting my payment of $118.00.
Description of Work: Nothing at all. I purchased two HVAC tune-up specials from an Angie's List email advertisement and never heard a word from Stokley's.

NOTE: The customer realized that he made a mistake and did not provide a way for us to contact him. He has since wrote another POSITIVE review regarding his experience with Stokley's Services. Hello, I'm sorry but I never received the purchase notification and therefore had no idea that you purchased the service, I called Angie's List and they sent it to me several minutes ago. I will have someone reach out to you shortly. Please understand that Angie's List is completely redoing their webpage and this has led to multiple problems. I have another customer that purchased the same service 3 days ago and I never received the notification. Other customers I am getting the same purchase notification 2 or 3 times. This glitch is completely out of our control as it as the purchases are going through Angie's List and not through Stokley's Services. I am sorry for any confusion.
