Great! My pest control company is always trying to up-sell me all kinds of things, especially for my crawlspace. They had claimed that there was 2 inches of water under my house. The technician from Stokely's checked under the house. There was a small puddle right at the entrance to/exit from the crawlspace, presumably caused by a service provider's knee as he exited. Condensation from the refrigerant line (from my A/C) was causing moisture to collect in this spot. Stokely's installed some insulation around the lines very inexpensively, and the technician poked a small drainage hole in the plastic to drain the existing puddle. A far cry from all the work my pest control company was trying to sell me! This saved me thousands of dollars! The people at Stokely's are always patient, polite, and professional. They have a customer for life!
Description of Work: I originally bought a Big Deal to have a seasonal A/C check. I was so pleased with that service that I had them come out again in the fall to check my heating system.

While he was there our tech noted that your water heater is 17 years old. Please prepare to replace that soon. I am not sure where your water heater is located but we recommend that water heaters be replaced every 10 years ESPECIALLY if the water heater is in a place that it can cause damage to the house. Replacing a water heater is a lot less expensive than replacing a ceiling or carpeting.

Absolutely fantastic. Once I got a hold of Stokely's. Angies List did not include my phone number when they sent them my information. But, they e-mailed me right away and fortunately, I checked my e-mail shortly after they e-mailed me. They set up a time for me to meet with them that afternoon. Keith called when he was on his way and once he got there went straight to work. Could not have asked for a more friendly and professional response!

Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice review. Unfortunately your system is old and not in the best condition. I strongly urge you to replace it soon. As we discussed at the time, the repair we did was only a temporary one. Your system is losing it's refrigerant and it's just a matter of time before it will fail altogether. Please keep in mind that the refrigerant you have is no longer in production and in 2020 even the recycled version will no longer be available. The other thing to keep in mind is that a new system will save you approximately 25% on your cooling bill. The winter, especially a warm winter like this one, is a good time to have the work done. Most HVAC contractors are negotiating deals to keep the crews busy. Just something to think about. Please call me if you have any questions.

Please keep in mind that the furnace in question is 20 years old and has an average life expectancy of 18 years. Your water heater is also 20 years and has a normal life expectancy of 15 years. I do recommend that water heaters be replaced sooner rather than later. A leak in the water tank can cause a lot of damage.especially if they are located in the attic or closet. If a water heater is in the attic or a closet, I urge people to change them every 10 years to prevent the damage before it happens.

The continuity of sending the same tech can be very helpful for everybody. It's analogous to having the same mechanic working on your car. Thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts regarding our services. I am not sure what issues you encountered in regards to setting the appointment as you didn't specify what the difficulties were so I can't really respond to that. I do know that we work very hard to work with our customers to find a time that is convenient. The main problem is that we simply do not know what our techs will run into from one call to the next so it is impossible to give an exact time and even offering a window can be difficult. We also have to route the techs in a manner that makes the best use of time and gas. We can tell a customer where they are on the schedule and keep them updated. We do not ask for anyone to wait around, we are more than happy to call them and give them notice (however much the customer needs) when we are on the way. I have tried very hard to learn from my personal frustrations (when dealing with other service companies and local utilities) to make scheduling as customer friendly as possible. There is no perfect way to handle scheduling but we try to accommodate our customers as much as possible.

I felt like I was dealing with used car salesman, fun used car salesman that might be cool to go to happy hour with, but used car salesman nonetheless. I did not feel respected as a consumer and felt a lot of unnecessary pressure coming from the owner, with too much that was unspecified. The general level of untrustworthiness I felt had me uneasy and I decided no. On a personal level, I liked the people I interacted with, but I felt no trust. Also, they charge a fee for using cards. At a 49 dollar service call not a big deal. At almost 5k quote, that's adds up. My suggestion to the owner, switch your credit card machine. I did find it a bit tacky that they quoted me what they did and wanted to slap on 3% to that. Ultimately it was a pass for me. As I said, I enjoyed the chats I had with the people I spoke with, but I did not trust them. It also rubs me the wrong way that the owner seems quite defensive on here and essentially attacking customers who did not have a great experience. That's a bad approach and sort of what I'm alluding to regarding the used car salesman vibe of the company. That High pressure, and defensive, confrontational manner. I wanted it to work. In the end, the price was wrong, too many other things were wrong in my gut too. I went with another company. In addition, since looking around, I've realized getting a quote on a replacement is a separate thing, and I feel like I was given the short end of the stick there too. I initially was not calling to replace anything. I actually had to call and ask for a professional quote. I feel Rob should have come out himself and done this himself. He did not. In fact, like I mentioned, he never intended to write anything for me at all. Just throw out a number over the phone to his tech and call it a day.

We want to help you take better care of it. Please keep in mind that your system is 23 years old and past it's life expectancy. It is also not in the best of shape. I urge you to heed the technicians advice and plan to replace it in the very near future. He was afraid that when you use the system in the a/c mode that it can cause water damage to your ceiling. You could possibly even lose your ceiling.

It was okay. Everything seems to be working fine. I've had them before. I usually use them. What keeps me their customer is their price. They've been around for a while. They're just local. We used to like their advertising in the radio. It's the same people I use so I just kind of stuck with them. I've had another guy a few times they've sent here but he's not with the company anymore. This was a new person to me. I kind of didn't really care for him but he knows what he's doing.

Thank you for the review and your continued support of our company. I'm also glad to hear that you like our radio commercials. I write the commercials and that is me doing them on the radio. Unfortunately we cannot run them all the time, we just can't afford the high price to do so. We try to run them in the summer for a month or so but it definitely puts a strain on our advertising budget. We get many rave reviews on the person that we sent out last time but I understand that some people have their preferences. The good news is that the tech you like from before is coming back to join us again. One of my basic philosophies is that if you teat your employees right they will treat your customers right. In this case, the tech in question tried working for another company but did not like the way he was treated nor did he like how they wanted him to treat their customers. He will back after the New Year holiday weekend. :)

UPDATE (1/9/17); We just received a call from the subscriber and he is using us to handle a "no heat" situation at his property for a system that we have not looked at before. ^ Hello and thanks for the review. I have to admit that I am confused by your comments. Our records indicate that you used us on 2 separate occasions to work on different units (almost 4 months apart). The same technician was there on both occasions. On both occasions he identified the problems, showed you what the problems were, and you authorized the repair. If you weren't happy with us the first time why call us back for the second visit? The technician even showed you that your system is in poor condition (it is over 16 years old after all). Looking at the grades that you gave us (A's for responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism) it appears to me that you aren't happy with the price. I'm sorry, but I would think most people would be thrilled to have a technician come out to their house, repair their HVAC system, AND clean it for only $240.

Actually we go out of our way to accommodate "working families" as that is what Stokley's Services is all about. We are a family owned and operated business. Unfortunately, unless you run a family business you probably do not appreciate what needs to be done to accommodate both your customers AND your employees. Shouldn't our employees be allowed to spend time with their families as well? We do not expect anyone to "sit and wait" for 4 hours. We offer to call them when we are on the way. We can offer as little or as much notice as the customer requests. We most certainly do work weekends and after 5 M-F but it is on overtime. If you work late, do you not expect to get paid additional money? This member wanted a special "Clean & Check" for $49 which clearly states that it is to be performed during normal working hours. We do not know what our technicians will run into from 1 call to the next so it is virtually impossible to predict a time. We also have to route the techs to make the most efficient use of time and fuel. We cut off promised calls at 2 PM: anything after that may lead to overtime. If we promise you that we will be there after 2 PM then we will be there after 2 PM. It may be at night, but we will be there. Actually many times calls promised for after 2 o'clock runs into overtime but we do not charge the customer additional if it goes into overtime, but we still have to pay the technician overtime. We can set up a first call in the morning or we can call them and give them as much notice as they require to get home in time. This subscriber was given those options and others but refused them. Also, we have never done a "Clean and Check" in under 20 minutes. If we did our reviews would not be as good as they are. We try our best to accommodate everyone and we just simply couldn't manage to do so in this case. Our employees have the right to spend time with their families and I will support them as best I can so that they are able. Yes we do work late and on weekends but that is on a rotating basis. It is the nature of the game. Lastly, I take exception to his comment about "finally being able to contact us." We have 6 phone lines. In the extremely unlikely event that all 6 lines are busy all phone calls go straight to my personal cell phone which has caller ID and voicemail. I would have received the call if he called and no one answered.. If he called during the weekend or after hours and needed a service call, again the calls go to my personal cell phone.

How did it go? It didn't, not going to pay for a free estimate.
Description of Work: On here they say they give "FREE ESTIMATES" I just bought a house that has a system that looks brand new but it will not come on. So, I wanted to get them to come out and look at it and give me an "ESTIMATE" on what it would cost to get it working. They say that's not an estimate that is a service call so it is $75 They need to take free estimates off this page it's a LIE!!! Their loss though, I also have some duct work I was going to get them to do after they got the system working so it actually cost them 2 jobs. Anyone know a good HVAC company that actually will give you a free estimate???

There is a difference between a "FREE ESTIMATE" and a "Service call". A free estimate is for equipment replacement. A service call is for repair work. We told you this when you called. You are not looking for a replacement, which we do provide free estimates on. I am unaware of any company that gives a "FREE ESTIMATE" for service calls. Most repairs are under a few hundred dollars. The overhead involved with sending a service tech out on a service call cannot be absorbed easily if he is constantly going out for free. It is simply not practical to send him out for free.

Thanks for the "A" review: it is always nice to see. Also, thank you for mentioning the float switch. The float switches are a device that is designed to shut the a/c system down in the event that it senses the condensate (produced by the air conditioning process) backs up. This small device can save hundreds or thousands of dollars. I highly recommend it for any application that a drain back up can cause damage to the house or belongings.

Thank you also for understanding that our main objective is to try to prevent your a/c system from failing during the summer heat (or winter cold) when we do a preventative maintenance: the key word is "preventative". Unfortunately, some people occasionally misinterpret our intentions when we discover something that is currently working but may likely fail when you need it most. I suppose it is only human nature to be leery when someone is saying that you need to spend money to replace a part even though it is currently working. The other side of that is that if we don't recommend that you change that part and the system fails the customer will think that we didn't do a good job. Also, it costs more money to send a tech out the second time than if we replaced the part while we were there initially.

It went extremely well. Prior to the work being done, I gave Stokley's a poor review because of a communication error. Shamefully, the communication error was entirely my fault - I had not given my mobile phone number to Stokey's, and was not receiving the messages they had left on my home phone (I was traveling at the time). Once I realized my mistake, Stokley's came through in short order and performed the work.
