Thank you for the review. I love seeing all "A's". Other companies may be happy with a "B" or a "C" but not us. I once heard a saying that I love and wish I could take credit for it but I can't. I will share it however. It goes, "Perfection is expected, excellence will be tolerated." Please keep in mind that your system is not very old but we did find some small problems. A little TLC by having the system serviced on a more regular basis should help prolong the life-expectancy and operating more efficiently. Description of Work: They serviced my air conditioner. Cleaned the coils and checked things out. They DID NOT add any coolant. Their price was to add up to 1 pound of coolant. He said that it was a little low but that the temperatures did not justify it. If it was a little low IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BROUGHT UP TO NORMAL LEVEL.

Hello and thank you for reviewing our service. I reviewed your service ticket and there was no mention of of your system being low on refrigerant. I talked to my tech and he checked his notes. He said that the pressure was a little low but that was probably due to a relatively low (for a/c purposes) outdoor temperature. He checked the supply and return air temperatures (which also gives us an indication of the refrigerant charge) and that was normal. According to our records, we were there the first week of August. This review comes a little over 2 months later. If you had any questions, or complaints you should have called as soon as he left. I can't correct something if I don't know anything about it. I will be more than happy to send another tech out at no charge to check it again. As we are now in a cooler season the results may be the same. Unless you want us there sooner, why don't we do this in the spring when it gets hot again. I will even clean your system again at no charge. Please keep in mind that having too much refrigerant can cause more problems than not having enough. If your system was low, you should have had some difficulties keeping your home comfortable. I will contact you to see when you would like us to come out. Actually, please allow us to service your furnace at no charge as well. Our reputation means everything and I want to make sure that you're happy with us.

We are expanding our operations that way to better serve the western parts of Tidewater (Smithfield, Carrollton, and Suffolk) as well as on the Peninsula (Hampton and Newport News). Keep in mind that your equipment is very old and will need to be replaced soon. It took a little bit of detective work but I was able to determine that the systems were manufactured in 1983. They passed their anticipated lifespan by over 10 years. A new system, which would be more efficient than what you have, will save you about 40% on your cooling bill. Thank you for understanding [member name removed]. An intermittent problem is extremely frustrating for any service company. It's hard to fix something when it is working fine when we are there. I have heard of many companies changing out part after part - and charging for everything - hoping they stumble across the solution without really knowing what the problem is. I would rather find the problem and charge to fix it than just changing out parts to hope to fix it. As soon as you notice the problem please call and ask for me and I can have you check a few things while you are experiencing the problem and hopefully we can get the tech out to observe it. Description of Work: Several hours late. Once there did good job but left the AC breaker fuse unplugged. Would have required them to return if I was not able to identify the issue once I got home. Very courteous to my wife while there which improves the overall grade to a 'B'.

Thanks for the review. I wish I could say that I'm happy about it, but obviously I can't. Our records indicate that we were there 5/22/14 and this review is posted 7/9/14. I say this only because if you had sent the review in sooner the call would be fresher in my mind, but so much time has passed I can't recall what was going on in that time frame. I would like to address the comment about being late first. We do not give timed appointments because we never know what to expect from one call to the next. We try to accommodate the customer and keep them informed as to when we think we will be there and we do call when we are on the way. In many cases, our customers simply want us to call them at work or on thier cell phone when we are a half hour, hour, or whatever time away so they can get back to the house and we happily do that. I am very sorry that he left the disconnect out. Frankly, that is inexcusable; unfortunately, we are human and humans do make mistakes. That is just a BIG mistake and I will make sure to address it with my people to help prevent that from happening again. THANK YOU for bringing it to my attention. I am glad that you were happy enough to give us a B overall and that you would consider using us again. I promise you that if you call us out again you will want to give us a solid A rating. That is what I want on every call.

I'm sorry that you are not happy with our services, but I disagree with your comments and think that you must have us confused with someone else that was out to your home? We did everything by the book. We advised you that your air conditioning system was 22 years old and that the life expectancy was approximately 15-18 years. We also noted that the unit is working right now but may quit at anytime and that you should prepare to replace your system. All of this is written on your service ticket which you were provided a copy of. The service technician noted on his dispatch (this is what we give him with your name and address) that you did not want a price to replace your air conditioning system. We tried to furnish you with a price to replace the system but you refused it. (NOTE: Why would we not give you a quote on a new system? This would make absolutely no sense, that is what we are in business to do.) We also noted that you had rust at the inlet of your water heater, that it also was also 22 years old, and quoted you a price to replace it. This was also written on your service ticket. We further told you that we recommend that water heaters be replaced every 10 years BEFORE a leak happens. Most water heaters only have a 6 year warranty on the tank. You were scheduled for a first call in the morning. You were advised that would be approximately 9 AM. We also told you that time was approximate as we never know what to expect with the traffic at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. We called you the day before to remind you of the appointment and again the next day when we were on the way. We arrived at 9:15. We spent an hour and a half cleaning your system and telling you what we found, yet you gave us low marks on punctuality, professionalism, price, and responsiveness. Your version of the story just doesn't add up.

Thank you for the review. Almost every HVAC contractor that is out there does not check the pressure of the refrigerant unless it is necessary. The necessity is based on if the temperature difference (or Delta temperature) between the return (intake) air and the supply (or conditioned) air is less than 18 degrees (F). The reason for this is simple. The refrigerant circuit is a sealed circuit: nothing should get in and nothing should get out. Every time you check the refrigerant level by putting on the gauges some refrigerant comes out because it is under pressure. This is the same thing happens when you check the pressure on your car or bike tire. The difference between the 2 is that being a few ounces low of refrigerant can cause your system to not operate properly. A few ounces in your car tire as very little effect. Also, refrigerant is believed to be part of the ozone depletion theories out there: if you believe them (some people do and some people don't). Refrigerant is also very much more expensive than compressed air. By checking for the Delta temperature we can determine if the unit is properly charged. If we do not get at least the 18 degree temperature difference we know that there is a problem somewhere. The problem may be with something other than the refrigerant and that is checked first. Only after the other possibilities are checked will gauges be put on to check the refrigerant pressures.

I'm glad that you liked our service. I've tried to learn from my experience with other service type of companies (phone, TV, cable, painters, plumbers, etc...) to be better. We try to work around our customer's schedule rather than force them to be there when it is convenient to us. One company told me that I was scheduled for the "week of..." which was 2 weeks away. They didn't have a day yet but they would call me the night before and give me a 4 hour window. How can a working person accept that condition? I refuse to operate that way. We set the appointment, call the night before, and we call when we are on the way. Some people like to be called a half hour or an hour in advance so that they can leave work. We do that too. Given an exact time or even a small window is almost impossible because we never know what we are going to run into from one job to the next. I think that good communication is a key element when providing any service.

I think you made the right decision by replacing the old system with a new system that is more efficient and comes with a new warranty. Before the housing market collapsed, I used to tell people that they should be able to recover about 50% of the cost of a new system when they sold the house. The market is still a little shaky and I can't really say that anymore. The one thing that I can say is that new homeowners are specifically looking for a new (or newer) heating and air conditioning system. Simply put, they are smarter and more aware than they used to be. They don't want to inherit someone else's problem. They know that a newer unit means that it is more reliable, more energy efficient, and that means one less headache to have to deal with. It helps to have a quality system installed - like you did - and having a reputable contractor install it. Thank you for trusting us to take care of your air conditioning and heating needs. We like to tell people that the reason that we are "Tidewater's Oldest Heating and Cooling Contractor" is because we to the job right the first time: we use quality products, have quality installers, service techs, and office personnel. We don't corners and we stand behind what we say and do. The company was founded by maternal Grandfather. When he passed away my parents took over. They all worked hard to build a company that took pride in it's work and reputation. Now it's my turn. I will not do anything to tarnish the legacy that they built.

Description of Work: Replaced AC unit and air handler. We had purchased the AC service check with the knowledge that our system was old and might not make it through the summer season. They performed a full service check and gave us a detailed explanation about the system status. We asked for quotes to replace the unit. They provided three detailed options to replace the units (main unit and air handler). Crew arrived at scheduled time and worked all day. They did a wonderful job. A lot of attention to detail on how they installed the unit, ease of access for maintenance of the air-handler, covering outside drain lines, drainage area of the compressor and operation of dual thermostat etc.
