I'm sure that it's just a typo, but I just want other members to understand that the work was done on 12/10/20 (not in 1970). I'm glad to hear that you were happy with our technician's work and I am extremely happy to know that you would use Stokley's Services again. Please keep in mind that if you furnish parts, like you did with the thermostat, you take us out of the equation if you experience problems with the thermostat or any other part. Warranty now becomes something between you and whomever you part the part from. In many cases, you don't get the full warranty that you would if we purchased and install it. In your case, those thermostats only have a 2 year warranty. If we purchased it, they would have a 4 year warranty. Yes, you would pay more but you would be protecting your investment. Those thermostats are not cheap. Thanks for the great review and I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas.

It is very unusual to see that style of furnace still operating but yours is and doing a good job. I have to assume that you have been taking good care of it throughout the years. I'm glad that you are happy with the work that we did at your home and thank you for the nice report card. Please keep in mind that your system is starting to shows signs of it's age and that you should start preparing to replace it. It is 15 years old and has an average life expectancy of 18 years. You should hopefully have a little time but I certainly wouldn't recommend any major repairs be made on the unit. You can help nurse it along with some TLC by continuing to have us service the unit until you are ready to replace the unit.

Description of Work: Due to a plumbing problem HVAC duct work had to be removed and then replaced after the plumber gained access to the piping. Stokely coordinated with the plumber to make the entrie process seamless and the overall repair time as fast as possible. Excellent job, courteous and professional staff and a pleasure dealing with the office.

Thanks for the straight "A" report card: it is greatly appreciated. I'm not sure why you do not have auxiliary heat strips installed in your system. I know there are quite a few homes in your area that uses radiant heat in the ceiling and I am guess that is what you are using. Please keep in mind that it is not unusual for that sort of heat to cause cracks in the plaster which may eventually fall. If you notice cracks starting to develop it would be in your best interest to stop using it as a heat source and have the auxiliary heat strips installed in your air handling unit.

Typically I would say thank you for the nice review but this member deserves more than that. They have been customers for well over 20 years (which is how far back our computer records are). I remember going there as a helper back in college and I think before then (I graduated from ODU in 1987). They have always been wonderful to deal with and extremely nice to everyone of the guys that have ever been to their house. Thanks for the great report card. The technician didn't note it on his service ticket but he told me that he suggested that you prepare to replace your system. The existing unit is 24 years old and has an average life expectancy of approximately 18 years. Winter just started and unfortunately furnaces seem to always break when it is bitter cold outside. Sadly, your a/c system is the same age and should also be replaced. Replacing your a/c system will even safe about 25% of the operational expense on your electric bill, and that's just going with the new minimal efficient system! Please call if we can help. Thank you for the nice review. We recommend that you have your heating and a/c units serviced every year. Routine maintenance could have prevented the breakdown. Fortunately the weather was not very cold so it wasn't a dire situation. You system is not very old but keeping it clean will help prevent breakdowns, increase the life of the system, and keep the system operating at maximal efficiency. I need to add that I love the extremely quick review! I think it is a record. :)

It is becoming evident that the new Angie's List site is still having some difficulties. I am seeing reviews that were written some time ago but I am just now getting them. I am sorry for the delay in the response but thank you for taking the time to send in the review. Please keep in mind that your system is not very old but it does seem to be causing you some problems. I suspect that whatever company installed it did not take their time to do a good job and you are now seeing the (early) effects of a poor installation. I would recommend that you replace it. I'm afraid that this system will just continue to cause you problems.

I had tried to keep this very sunny room cool using extension ducts from my original unit. As a homeowner, not contractor, it went as well as you might expect. I had insufficient air return, insufficient cool air throughput, and insufficient size for the additional square feet. I got estimates from 6 reputable local contractors and their recommendations for keeping the room cool. I also wanted to take advantage of the Federal Tax credit for 2010. After comparing the recommendations, I selected Stokley due to their combination of reputation, service, length of existence, and price. Rob Shortt listened to my requirements and crafted a solution that was the most appropriate combination of price and meeting my needs. I signed the agreement on Monday and they began installation on Wednesday (finished early Thursday). The main technician, Tycho, could not have been more considerate and professional. He encountered a few unexpected "challenges" during the installation and implemented very creative solutions. By Thursday night at 6:00, my sunroom was at 70 degrees while the outside temp was over 90.
Description of Work: Stokley Services installed a Mitsubishi mini-split AC/Heat pump in my new second floor sunroom.

Stokley's Services have been doing maintenance on my system for 10 years, until just recently when I cancelled my contract. The reason I cancelled my contract didn't have much to do with their overall service because I felt alright about what they did for my units and how they kept them maintained. I had a few problems with the people who came out. I felt they simply were not professional. I talked to the owners and they listened to what I had to say and they seemed to be willing to do whatever it took to make me happy. I will hire this company back after working things out with the owners.

The old system was on its last legs, and Stokleys was referred to us by friends. They are relatively well known in the area, and have a good reputation. This, it would seem, is well deserved because the installation went very smooth. There were not any major problems, and the new system works like a charm.

The technician I dealt with, responded in one day and seemed to have a general idea of the problem before he arrived. He had all the parts he needed with him, so the actual repair time was very short. I was impressed with his professionalism and his manners. I thought this would be a costly repair but it was very inexpensive.
Description of Work: Stokleys repaired my furnace. It kept turning off and back on again.
