Richard Plourke has done a beautiful job in completing work started by another installer. Richard has kept me informed as to who, what, where, when and how. He has arrived when he said and has phoned when unable to be available when promised due to other obligations. Richard will definitely be referred to friends and family.

Received a call to set up a free quote less than an hour after I emailed. That was about the only positive I experienced. The gentleman that came over for the consult was extremely arrogant and rude. Upon arriving he asked if my husband was home. When I told him no he proceeded to tell me he wanted to reschedule for a time my husband was home. I told him that would not happen (he's gone a lot!). He sat down and pulled out his paperwork muttering over and over again about how this appointment was not going to end in a sale and that he would rather speak with my husband rather than me. He then proceeded to bash the people that would be doing the actual building by saying they were not smart, good to look at or friendly but they get the job done. That they were a "rough" group. Even if they were I feel like that is not the way you speak about your coworkers to a client! After giving me my quote I watched as he got in his car and dumped his unwanted coffee in the middle of my driveway. You were right sir that appointment did not end in a sale for you!

The project start date was 15th of April and last 3 days according to Steve the salesman, with no weather factors, Chris showed up on May 1 at noon. Him and his crew did not work a full day here, never knowing when they would show. They left on May 8th without finishing the project. From the start Steve Jacobs the salesman lied to me about the start date and several times about the permit to install fence, (takes 15 min and $15 to get one) and promises to check on it seveal times. Being 72 and wife 75 I feel that Steve and Mike the owner have taken advantage of us due to our age. The project stated 16 days late by Gregory's Fencing, the owner Chris Gregory and crew. Each day it took my wife and I hours to keep the my yard and the neighbors yards cleaned up from the garbage. Chris installed the pickets all in 2 hours, when asked why they were not pushed together to provide privacy, this is the way they get installed. After several unreturned calls to Steve and calls to Quality, Chris left the project after 8 days and left the large concrete from the old fence in my yard and all the wholes unfilled in and a mess of junk. (I got complaints from my neighbors about the condition Chris left their property which I hired a guy $150 to take care of) After numerous calls to Chris unanswered Quality sent over their Installer Richard Plourde to fix the gates and clean up the mess and concrete. He did what he could with the gates, still not fixed, and I asked him about the installation of the pickets on my fence. He told me and reported it to Quality Built Exteriors the pickets should not be 1/4 inch separation which over 90% of mine are. Then Quality sent out their Program Manager, Travis, and he agreed the gates where not properly installed and the fence separation should not be separated just a few days after installation. Travis called me back tonight at 7:30 to tell me the owner Mike Reede would not fix or replace my pickets. Mike Reede's corrective action was to fire the installer Chris and possibility of replace both gates and clean up my lawn, will not fix the pickets which are getting wider as I write this. With lies from the salesman Steve, unsatisfactory installation by Chris, and no support, not even a call from the owner, I am left with a fence that does not provide privacy which I paid $5,356 plus paid $94,20 for additional pickets to finish fence due to damage ones they received. I have yet to hear from the owner and feel I feel he has taken my money and does not care about his reputation or his company. Mike Reede Owner of Quality Built Exteriors did come by and we agreed on what had to be done to correct the fence. These are the items we agreed on: 1.Cedar pickets will be installed around the entire fence on the back side. 2. Both gates will be replaced. One 5 foot and one 10 foot gate. 3. All holes on the back side of property fence facing the storage area, will be filled with dirt and leveled like it was before fence installation to include the right side of property. 4. Both gate areas will be cleaned up. Note, Travis, on his first visit, told me the fence installation on the single gate towards the house was not up to standard. Work is to start Saturday 3 June. I hope this will finish the job and I can give him and his company a better rating.Mike Reede Owner supervised the corrective action and still the pickets where not installed per agreement. Richard Plourds the installer still refused to butt the pickets on the fence so not to leave a gape, further he ran out of pickets and took some from another job and installed the shorter pickets on my gates leaving an 8 inch gape at the bottom and 1/4 inch gape in the pickets. Travis the Progam Manager came by to install hardware which Richard failed to install and I showed him the problem areas which he took notes and agreed with me. I have been trying for days to contact the company and they have not returned my calls.

They had to postpone the work for two days as we were having thunderstorms but the office kept me notified about the delay. When they got here, there was some discussion as to whether they should start the project as the weather was not looking bright. They did decide to go ahead with the roofing and sent in an extra team to help with the work. They were finished my entire roof in one day (and ten minutes before the storms hit!). The crews really worked well together; in fact, the whole neighborhood was talking about how efficiently they had worked. And, since we had a huge storm immediately after completion, I was assured that the work had been done very well. They policed the area after the job was completed, and the next morning, their supervisor was here to look over the job and make extra sure all the nails and other materials had been picked up. From the salesman to the last man on the job, they were professional, personable, and obviously very experienced. The price was actually the lowest bid which made it all that more pleasurable. I strongly recommend this company for roofing.

This review of Quality Built Exteriors is mixed, but implore you to read the whole thing. I needed a fence replaced after a tornado touched down in the VA Beach area back in March '17. I called up QBX and their sales rep came out, took measurements, and gave a reasonable quote for my requirements based on a fence style I saw in their brochure. I was happy to hear that their installer would be out to do the job within two weeks. On the day of the install, it wasn't until mid-afternoon that I was told that the installer was held up at another job and wouldn't be able to get to my site that day. They started the next day (a Friday) and worked throughout the day on most of the installation. They wrapped up the install (front gate and adjacent fence line) the next day (Saturday) and had me do a cursory review of the work. I questioned some things like wood patching shortcuts and mounds of dirt left over, but they were dismissed as "standard". I'm not at all an expert in these things, so I tempered my expectations a bit. Subsequent to our install, I had given the work a more thorough review and called QBX to schedule someone to come out to review the work with me. Travis promptly came out in a couple of days and went over the install with a discerning eye. He found a lot of problems with the initial work and I was relieved to hear that my concerns were warranted. Ultimately, the initial installer had done a rush job, took a bunch of shortcuts, chose chipped/warped/perforated wood in many instances, and left me with a product that was not exactly "quality". We even found that the new fence line put one of my backyard sprinkler heads on the OUTSIDE of the fence, preventing its use. Travis verified this and said that I would be taken care of. And then we found the gas leak. On the boundary of my neighbor's property, on the outside corner of my fence, Travis had found a 6" wide hole, pretty deep, filled with water...and that water was bubbling. He had investigated further and smelled gas. After calling it in to the office, he was prompted to call 911, which led to no fewer than six fire dept vehicles and 16 fire fighters showing up to assess the situation, followed by the gas company and Miss Utility, and finally an excavator to reroute the gas pipe that had a confirmed breach. Travis stayed on our property the entire time, talking with officials as well as my children, and assuaging all worry that this would fall on our shoulders. Before leaving, Travis said that I should hear something in a day or two about having my fence repairs made. I told him that I wanted a new installer--one that would do the job properly, and he confirmed. A few days had passed and I hadn't heard anything, so I called the office to light a fire on getting an appointment set up. After I left my message, I received a call back for when my appointment would be. The day of my appointment, I got a call from the office about the installer running late. He was mentioned by name and that was a red flag for it was the same name as the original installer. I confirmed with the office rep and then promptly put the breaks on the job, stating that I wanted someone new and that I had told Travis as much. Apparently that wasn't conveyed and they had to do some rescheduling. I told them that I'll take a delay if it means getting someone that will do the job right and I was scheduled for the following Monday. Monday came and the date was pushed out to Thursday of the same week due to rain, which was understandable. Thursday came and I hadn't heard anything until late afternoon. I called the office and was told of a delay but that Richard (new installer) would be coming by later on. I had asked if work would be resuming first thing the next morning and they told me it would. I then got a call from Richard himself, apologizing for the delay but expressing his want to go over everything with me before getting started. He advised me of a personal appointment he had the next morning, which left me a bit dumbfounded because the office told me something different. As a father of five, I understand personal appointments when it comes to one's children, so I worked with his schedule and settled for something later in the day--around 2pm. The next day, 2pm came and went with nary a phone call. At this point, I was pretty fed up with the lack of communication and chasing down QBX for status, so I let it ride with every intent on writing off the rest of the work and parting ways. Sunday came and Richard suddenly shows up in my backyard with no warning. He was very apologetic about the lack of communication and said that I should have gotten a call from the office. Apparently he had a personal emergency with one of his kids--which I get--but someone needed to tell me about it. Richard got to work assessing the problem areas and making suggestions for improvement. He took care of a few issues on the spot and the improvements were already leaps and bounds over what was originally done. The rest of the work required more materials and time, which needed approval from QBX, so we had to schedule a new date for the coming week. I was told that I would hear something from either him or Travis in the next two days. I heard from the office on the following day that Richard would be coming back out on Thursday of the same week to finish the job. Thursday came and I got a call about the job being delayed until the next day due to rain--and rain it did. The next day I spent all day at home waiting for Richard to show up and only found out by calling the office that he was held up at Lowes, trying to purchase my materials, by the QBX office and that he would be late. Richard then called me and said that it would be 5pm by the time all the materials were loaded on the truck and at my property, so we'd have to start the next morning. I was over the lack of communication and so was my wife. She had made her own call to QBX, expressing her deep dissatisfaction with the level of professionalism being exhibited. This prompted a call from Richard, who apparently and unjustly got an earful for poor planning and communication, as well as Travis, who took full responsibility and accountability for the issues we'd been experiencing. Both calls were appreciated and went a long way in showing how much we were valued as customers. Richard showed up the next morning and got right to work, never bothering me or my wife once. Around noon, he calls us out to inspect his work and suffice it to say, we were impressed! He built a brand new front gate that was solid and provided the same latch that matched the first gate we had built. The top cap line is now straight where it was bowed before, and the gate has no chance of rubbing against the post. The whole rebuild "feels" solid and my wife and I are both happy with the results. Richard left us with a far cleaner job site than the first installer, leaving no mess and raking/leveling the soil until it was nice and flat (the previous guy left mounds of dirt for us to deal with). He also took care of my sprinkler head issue, rerouting the piping to the inside of my fence line. My only gripes about the work is that I never got the scalloped top caps as depicted in the brochure. As this was based on an Angie's List deal, I expect that would cost more money, but it was disappointing to have the final outcome not meet original expectations. So, here is where we stand with Quality Built Exteriors: PROS; *Decent price point *Commitment to their customers *Quality work (depending on the installer they send out) *Dedication to see the job done right CONS: *Poor communication (this will frustrate a customer just as much as empty promises) *Awful original installer (but I believe this has been remedied) *Final product doesn't match what was depicted in the brochure All in all, I believe I would hire QBX again, provided they shore up their weaknesses. If you decide to hire them for fence work, I would strongly recommend requesting Richard Plourde for your installation. He's a straight-shooter with solid experience, the desire for customer satisfaction, and the pride in his work to guarantee that satisfaction.

It was an experience that I wish I could have skipped. The portion of the fence installed the first day by one installer looked great.....on the second day of installation - very small area - I came home to what I can only describe as a rush job. The major issue was that a portion of the fence angled onto my neighbor's property. The installers came out the next week to "repair" it, The post is still on my neighbor's property, but the damaged pickets and nails, and various other issues were fixed - the project manager agreed with me on every issue that I had. Hopefully, my neighbor won't call me out on ths. Although, Charisse in their office was awesome, and Tom, the salesman, sold me the merits of the company, nothing about my experience was quality, not even the fence.
