About us

Our company is a second-generation, family-owned business that has provided quality pest control services to the Hampton Roads area since February of 1970. Our goal has always been to provide honest, dependable, and professional service to our customers. We are proud of our 43 year history and we work diligently everyday to continue that level of excellence. Our Owners, Karen and Bill Pye, hold VDACs Commercial Certified Applicator licenses in: wood destroying insects general pest control turf management and ornamentals and are in the office or the field every day Our technicians are all Certified Commercial Applicators with the Virginia Department of Agriculture either when they began employment with our company, or within one year of being employed. This is done to ensure their level of training and expertise is up with A-1′s standards. Our office personnel are Certified Registered Technicians as well, which gives them a firm grasp on pest control services and allows them to be as thorough as possible when answering your questions. Our owners. technicians, and office staff attend monthly training and safety meetings plus Virginia Department of Agriculture(VDAC) training sessions and training sessions offered by our product manufacturers. Unfortunately, I am at a bit of a loss about what part of our service was less than top notch with this member. We did not visit her home in April this year but went out on March 12, 2014 for what was a FREE follow up inspection that we do on all new warranty accounts six months after they have started the warranty program. Additionally, the start of the warranty program was purchased by this member through an Angie's List special at half price, just $73.00. We don't have any records reflecting any problems or issues with either inspection. With hope, the member will come to appreciate the service and our procedures and feel it is of value.

Response from A-1 Inc Exterminators
I wish the member had explained his displeasure with his contact with us so I could address it directly. Given the grades he assigned to our work, we feel it necessary to respond. The member purchased our Termite Inspection Plan Warranty late last year and, as is stated in the offer, the initial inspection must find the structure free of active termites to qualify. Unfortunately, the member's home had two areas of termite activity and an initial treatment was required to move forward. The best analogy I can think of is that it would be like buying collision insurance for your car AFTER you've had an accident that caused damage. Naturally, we cannot do that. In any case, the member was left with a price for treatment and the $73.00 he paid to Angie's List for the warranty would have come off of that price given that the warranty itself is free when a treatment is done. Several attempts were made to reach the member by phone to discuss his options regarding the pricing, payment options, etc. with no response. As is always the case, the member can request a full refund of the $73.00 from Angie's List and choose another company for treatment as he wishes. Again, we are not sure why he is dissatisfied 6 months later but we have heard nothing from him and are unsure what more we could have done to ensure his complete satisfaction.

Description of Work: I had the BEST guy! He put on a suit and actually went under the house and inspected then all around the house. He took a long time. Other times when I had my house inspected for termites by other companies, they just walked around the house and I've been a home owner for 30 years.

Description of Work: The purchase was for a warranty service for a full year certifying a clean termite inspection. Because of an elevated moisture level, the company is not permitted to honor that warranty. Once the moisture is removed and has a proper barrier installed, the company can come back an reinspect for a potential warranty service. The cost to do this is enough to motivate trying to take care of this issue myself. The contractor that came out was extremely helpful and I plan on going back to them for future work.

Excellent.
Description of Work: Surrounded my home with Termidor and replaced existing crawl space vents with new ones that are temperature sensitive so they open and close when they should and provide better airflow under the house. Very nice gentleman and very patient. We kept having to reschedule due to inclement weather but finally got everything done. Couldn't be happier.
