About us

Our company is a second-generation, family-owned business that has provided quality pest control services to the Hampton Roads area since February of 1970. Our goal has always been to provide honest, dependable, and professional service to our customers. We are proud of our 43 year history and we work diligently everyday to continue that level of excellence. Our Owners, Karen and Bill Pye, hold VDACs Commercial Certified Applicator licenses in: wood destroying insects general pest control turf management and ornamentals and are in the office or the field every day Our technicians are all Certified Commercial Applicators with the Virginia Department of Agriculture either when they began employment with our company, or within one year of being employed. This is done to ensure their level of training and expertise is up with A-1′s standards. Our office personnel are Certified Registered Technicians as well, which gives them a firm grasp on pest control services and allows them to be as thorough as possible when answering your questions. Our owners. technicians, and office staff attend monthly training and safety meetings plus Virginia Department of Agriculture(VDAC) training sessions and training sessions offered by our product manufacturers. Response from A-1 Inc Exterminators
Of course, we are happy to see that the member gave us a favorable review but I am always concerned when I see we fell short in any category. The member has given us a B rating for both price and responsiveness and it's difficult to understand why. The price was $73.00 which was an Angie's List Storefront Offer for our annual Termite Protection Plan and that is 50% off our regular price. I imagine the price may seem high to the member but I don't know of another company that charges less than that. The second B the member gave us was for responsiveness, again I'm at a loss. The member made the purchase through Angie's list on July 8 and listed 3 possible schedule dates. I wrote back to him through the Angie's List Message Center, as is required, on that same day with an appointment time that was the member's first choice and the member replied that same day to confirm, also through Angie's List Message Center. We have tried to reach the member since the service was completed on July 10 but the phone number and email address we have (supplied by Angie's List) are incorrect. I can only hope that if there are any further concerns, questions or problems that the member will contact us directly.

Response from A-1 Inc Exterminators
Of course, we are happy to see that member was satisfied with the services performed but naturally, I was concerned about the "D" grade we were given regarding punctuality. All of our vehicles are equipped with GPS tracking devices so I checked the Daily Reports. This member was scheduled for service on Monday, April 21, 2014 (not May the 10th) and we were schedule to arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Two of our technicians were scheduled to be there at that time given the type of work we were doing. The GPS tracking shows that both trucks arrived at precisely 8:21 a.m. The member cited the date of service to be May 10, 2014 so I am not sure if she is referring to another service provider on that date but we were absolutely on time and the work was completed on that date. If there was some other issue with our punctuality, I hope that she will make me aware so I can address it,

Description of Work: Tom was excellent. He came out the same day that we called and provided a termite inspection. We saw a swarm, and knew there was a problem. I believe the price was fair though more than I wanted to pay. Tom did not try to sell us things we don't need. Contract for termite treatment. Tom and Ted came out the following week, on-time and performed the treatment. They communicated all aspects to me. Time will tell on the effectiveness of the treatment. It takes 90 days to be effective. They will return 2X during the year. We plan on renewing the warranty service with them. Felt like we were dealing with an honest, reputable company.
