About us

Our company is a second-generation, family-owned business that has provided quality pest control services to the Hampton Roads area since February of 1970. Our goal has always been to provide honest, dependable, and professional service to our customers. We are proud of our 43 year history and we work diligently everyday to continue that level of excellence. Our Owners, Karen and Bill Pye, hold VDACs Commercial Certified Applicator licenses in: wood destroying insects general pest control turf management and ornamentals and are in the office or the field every day Our technicians are all Certified Commercial Applicators with the Virginia Department of Agriculture either when they began employment with our company, or within one year of being employed. This is done to ensure their level of training and expertise is up with A-1′s standards. Our office personnel are Certified Registered Technicians as well, which gives them a firm grasp on pest control services and allows them to be as thorough as possible when answering your questions. Our owners. technicians, and office staff attend monthly training and safety meetings plus Virginia Department of Agriculture(VDAC) training sessions and training sessions offered by our product manufacturers. Response from A-1 Inc Exterminators
We are fairly certain this member does not have the correct company. We did not perform for this member at any time in January 2015 or at the property address listed. We did service a customer with the same first and last name at a different service address on June 2, 2014. He had called in on May 30, 2014 and requested a move-out treatment for a property he had been renting, probably as required by the lease. It was through a property management company we do regular business with and have for many years. We did not even meet the customer, we were given keys by the management company. We performed the service, emailed the customer his receipt as requested and never heard another word from either him or the management company. Again, this member may just have the wrong company.

We are sorry to see that member doesn't feel quite so good about the price she paid. This member actualy bought four Angie's List Deals within 90 days. Quite honestly, more than one sort of overlapped the other giving her more than she needed in that time period. Had we been able to speak with her a bit more before her following purchases, we could have certainly saved her money. But one of the services she purchased was a 30 day guaranteed pest control service and she didn't request any follow-ups that would have been at no charge. We trust that we got rid of her problems at the very least.

Description of Work: Exterminator went all around the outside of my house killing bugs with spray and wiping them off the house. Inside I was assured that the chemicals used were safe and woodwork was spayed. Employee took the time to explain what he was going to be doing as well as the safety of the chemicals being used.

Description of Work: I purchase the $199.00 deal for a new moisture barrier in my crawl space w/termite inspection for up to 1000 sq ft. I had the technician come out for a price to remove the old moisture barrier and I felt the $200.00 was fair, so we scheduled the removal/install. The technician arrived on time for both the estimate and the removal/disposal and replacement of the moisture barrier, was very professional and although I won't go under the house, from what I could see looking into the space with a flashlight, he did a great job with the install.

Description of Work: There was a flea infestation in one of our rental properties. There was a mistake on the purchased service they quickly called me back to correct and credit me. The tech was very response to the issue and set exception on how to remediate. The company office and tech to do the work were excellent and would recommend them to others.

There were a couple of errors with this member's purchase. First, the member purchased an Angie's List Deal for $169.00 for a 30 guaranteed service but his problem was fleas and that offering specifically excluded fleas. This was stated clearly in the offer. We agreed to convert the $169.00 he already paid to Angie's List to a two trip service plan for fleas then he ultimately needed one more visit. He paid us a total of $239.00, not $300.00. Second, the address we had been given via Angie's List was a different address than the one where he wanted service. We didn't find this out until we drove to the house on the purchase order and found no one home. I guess one could say the whole transaction was a little rocky but it all worked out well in the end and we haven't heard from him again so we hope he is now free of the flea problem.

We're not sure why the member feels that our price was not low enough; he paid a total of $577.00 for a job that would normally be priced at $798.00 given the size of his home. I can only suspect that he was disappointed when he purchased the Angie's List Big Deal, then asked to get his annual warranty for free this year because of it and he was told he could not. We can only run but so many discounts or half-off services and still stay in business. My biggest concern is his lower grade on Professionalism. Naturally, that's a very important issue with us. We expect our techncians to be clean, neat, dressed in uniform, trucks clean and certainly behave and speak with a professional attitude. If there was any issue there, I hope the member will let us know.
