 + 0 moreHe showed up at 7:59 for our 8:00 appt. suited up and went under the house performed an inspection for about 45 min. came out and said I had a drip leak under my forward bathroom. said everything else looked good. measured the linear feet of the house for treatment cost. I signed the paper work and he said I will see you next year unless you want me sooner .He gave me his business card and a copy of the paper work and said goodbye.

 + -1 moreI was very pleased with the service I received. Tom, the technician, was on time, polite and informed me in all that he would be doing. He answered all of my questions and even took his shoes off in my home to not track in chemicals or dirt. He offered different termite packages, but did not try to hard sell me on anything which I liked because many companies try to use scare tactics to get you to buy certain plans. I would definitely hire this company again. They already had great reviews, they give a discount for Angie's members and their staff seems to know what they are doing.

Description of Work: A-1 Extermination came to my home to give inspection and consultation for termites. I was treated as if I was a valuable customer although they didn't know at that point if I would be using their services. They were not only on time but arrived with a smile. A-1 took time to explain what they would accomplish with their extermination program and didn't make me feel rushed as I asked them questions-on-top-of-questions. That showed me also that they don't make appointments, as some companies do, that are so close together that they don't have time to fully make you feel comfortable with using their services. They were professional at all times. In addition, they make their plan affordable payment wise, for individuals who otherwise may not be able to afford the treatment.

 + 0 moreTom, the representative, was professional and explained every step of the process. The inspection found inactive termite tubes. I went ahead with a preventative treatment which included drilling into the slab and digging a trench along the perimeter to introduce the Termidor. The original treatment date had to be postponed because of rain, so it was rescheduled on a dry day to ensure proper bonding to the soil.
Description of Work: This included a termite inspection and treatment with Termidor around the entire home.

 + -1 moreThe "Special" did not mention that the porch, attached garage, and driveway were not included. I could have had these done for another $471. If you add this amount to what I paid ($750), you come up with exactly what is normally charged. In fact A-1 Exterminators treated my neighbor's ranch (mine is a 2 story and does not have as big a perimeter) for $800 without the so-called "Special". I did not realized that I had to barter and I trusted Angie's List. I think it was a gross misrepresentation of services. When I called and told A-1 how I felt, they informed me that if I have termites in the areas not treated during the next 12 months, they will treat for free. But I'll be responsible for the damages. My other friend that signed up with me had the good sense to pull out.
Description of Work: A-1 called me to set up an appointment. The technician showed up on time, measured the property, and informed me that he would treat the soft areas but not the front and back porches nor where the garage meets the driveway.

We were unable to totally rid our home of the pests and they made me very uncomfortable. I went on Angie's list and read reviews and decided to try A-1. It's early yet but so far I am pleased.
Description of Work: tech sprayed indoors and out for lge brown cockroach as well as other crawlers. He was very professional and pleasant. as of now I am very glad that we called them. We signed a one year contract so we hope that we can totally get rid of the pests.

 + -1 moreI called the office frantic because of the ants (I don't like them, and they were all over my kitchen - in a brand new house.) The lady on the phone was very sympathetic and concerned and was able to make me an appointment for the next day. She explained the service, the fee (I received 15% off for an Angie's List discount - it's normally 125 but I paid 106), what the technician who would be at my house looked like and his area of expertise. When the technician showed up (the next day may I say again), he was very courteous and prompt. He put dust covers on his shoes. He did a thorough inspection of my ant problem, and laid a pretty effective posion in inconspicous places around where I was having my problem. I have cats, and he assured me they would be ok (and they were). He also sprayed by baseboards, and sprayed outside as well as conducting a termite inspection. He explained all of the services offered by A-1 but did not pressure me to sign a contract and said I can call at anytime if I would like to have a contract. I was told when I first called that depending on how bad my ants are, it may take more than one visit but luckily, within 3 days, I didn't see anymore ants. It was amazing. It has been a week and a half, and the ants are still gone. I received a follow-up call from the office as well after a week to find out how I was doing, which I appreciated. I highly recommend this company. I will definitely use them in the future for any other issues I have. As a new home owner, I am happy I know who to call if I have problems like this again.

 + 0 moreThe company called to arrange time for service within 24 hours of my purchase of the special "deal". The people on the phone were friendly and courteous, and arranged a time that fit in to my schedule. The service tech arrived right on time, was helpful, courteous and explained everything well. He left us with an estimate for a vapor barrier, as there was not one under our house now. The price seemed fair, and the tech was not pushy about trying to force us to buy another product, but helpful in his explanations and gave us written sheet with readings and findings when he was done. Overall, good price, good service, I would use them again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: I purchased one of Angie's Deals, termite inspection, retreatment and warranty for $79.00. The company representative showed up right on time, was neat and professional. He spent approximately 30 minutes doing the inspection of the exterior and crawl space. When he was done, he gave us a written report of his findings (no termites!) and an estimate for a vapor barrier under the house. The estimate seemed to be a fair price. We will use them again next year. There was no high pressure to sell other products, just a complete job, well done. Thanks!

Description of Work: The date given refers to the last year I used this company rather than a particular service date. The cost is an estimate of monies spent over a number of years for a variety of problems/services. I have no complaint about termite service. However, early in my relationship with this company (which extended for a number of years) I was informed that I had a moisture problem under my house. Each time a service was suggested in reaction to the problem I asked about the cause of the problem but was never given an answer as to why the moisture continued to be present. After several sand additions, plastic barrier replacements, the installation of a drainage system, replacement of wood which had basically rotted, I continued to ask for the cause. I finally agreed to the installation of 2 fans under the house (they wanted to put in 3-4 but I really couldn't understand how fans blowing air around an enclosed area would eliminate maoiture). The moisture continued to be a problem. I finally called several other companies to try to get to the root cause of the problem. Two companies sent representatives who noted the moisture, said the fans were not helpful and were installed improperly, and then made suggestions to, again, focus on the results of the problem rather than the cause. Finally another representative arrived from a fourth company (A-1 included), took a look around, told me the cause of the problem, offered me a solution at a very reasonable price, and proceeded to basically end the problem!! (Thank you Edwards Brothers!!) I spoke with the owner of A-1 and asked for a refund of the money spent for the fans (several hundred dollars) and was told that they would be moved to different locations under the house but no refund would be given, especially since they had been in place for quite a long period of time. She also told me that she was not aware that the installation using an extension cord, rather than hard-wiring, was not up to code requirements; she said she had tried to find out about the code and hadn't been successful (I had no trouble finding out when I called the inspector's office; I also found that if I reported the problem to his office, I would be the one cited as the homeowner!) When I complained via the Better Business Bureau, I got the same response. I had never before owned a home built on a crawl space and chalked up the problems I had with this company as a very expensive learning experience! I should also note that I did not always follow suggestions for handling the moisture because I felt other suggestions hadn't helped and didn't want to contine to throw money away; I did follow more than half of the suggestions over a number of years but the problem just continued.
