K&K Hardwood Floor Inc

John is great. He was always on time and is very professional and still friendly. The installers were prompt and the carpet is lovely. They would have cleaned up, but I had to leave and chased them out of the house. I had also wanted to install wood flooring in my kitchen. Three contractors looked at the job, but John was the only one to tell me that the joists under my kitchen change direction in the middle of the breakfast room, which would require a new subfloor. Without this, the boards would possibly sag in that area. Not one other estimator mentioned this. When I do replace the kitchen floor, I will call John.

I solicited 2 quotes from local hardwood installers that seemingly had good reputations on Angie's List. Although pricing was close on with both companies, I settled on K&K because their process was more seamless than the other company and they could perform the installation over several weekends (vs. taking off several days to sit with them). I worked with Mr. John Kim, who came to our home to do all the usual stuff (measuring, educating us on our options, etc.). He clearly knew his business and was careful to point out some of the "gotcha's" that may come into play. He did a good job of setting our expectations and communicating with us throughout the entire process. Out of the gate, we had an issue (because of the hardwood flooring style/width we choose). We waited 4+ weeks for a wider plank, hand-scraped maple. There was a back order on it & K&K could not obtain it from the manufacture. After about the 5th or 6th week, we opted for a narrower, 3.25" plank of the same variety and style, which K&K obtained very quickly. Our installation was nearly 9000sq ft and covered our foyer, living room, dining room, library and upstairs hallway. We also had the carpeted staircase re-done with Maple planks/risers. We also had K&K remove our current staircase handrails (Oak) and refinish them to match the maple color of the flooring we choose. They installed a temporary handrail for safety. The crew installed the flooring over 2 Saturdays due to our schedule. The crew was terrific and took every precaution when removing old flooring and sealing off areas to minimize the mess. They were punctual, stayed off their cell phones, took few breaks and worked efficiently the whole time. Our crew seemed to be led by a guy named "Areli". If we have more work done, I will request him. We were so pleased with this crew, we decided to buy them lunch each visit. The staircase and handrails took a few more weekends to complete (again, due to our limited schedule) but was completed with care. A different crew was assigned to finishing off our staircase (installing iron balusters we provided). They took nearly an entire day to complete the work but it turned out beautifully. Worth the wait! Other than finishing our basement several years ago, this was the single largest home improvement we've ever done. The end result was worth the $15K spend and we have no issue recommending K&K, John Kim and Areli's crew to our neighbors.

The two flooring projects went extremely well from start to finish. They were never pushy during the estimate phase, which we greatly appreciated. They allowed us to take many samples home during the selection process. They were always on time for appointments. John Kim helped us pick the right flooring product for the lower level based on our needs (i.e. dog that might pee on the flooring). K&K coordinated well with our remodeling contractor and kept to the scheduled dates for floor installation. Most importantly, they even finished a day early! We really liked working with John Kim and highly recommend him and K&K. We would definitely use them again.

I have nothing but fantastic things to say about K&K - both the workers and the managers. From the beginning, Andrew was helpful and informative. He was very easy to get in touch with (even on the weekend, even though I am ashamed to admit that I did e-mail him a couple of times!), very helpful in answering questions and very knowledgeable. On the day of installation, the workers were there at 8:30 sharp! They were very pleasant and professional but as soon as they walked in the house, the work started immediately! I came home a few hours after they had started to make sure they were ok and to see if they needed anything and they were well into the project. They finished in TWO DAYS! The cleaned up after themselves and put everything back where it went. Mr. K even cleaned the floors himself, after sweeping them, with hardwood cleaner. I like the fact that I did not have to stay on top of them to do things, they just did things as they should be done. They inspected everything and made sure everything was done perfectly. They did an absolutely amazing job and I highly recommend them. A wonderful company and wonderful employees. Thank you K&K!

I cannot talk to price - I did not get competing prices - though price seemed reasonable. However, they were able to come on short notice (without my having to take off work) and did a very professional job (sanding and refinishing (2X poly) pegged oak floor that had been covered by carpet for 25+ years. Only issue was preparing a transom for between a stone floor and the hardwood. However, after a bit of discussion, they returned and custom designed (2.5 hours) what I needed at no additional cost. Floor looks great. They protected other rooms and cleaned up well. Very satisfied.

John Kim came for estimate very quickly after call. Very friendly, professional and experienced. Gave me estimate with Angie's discount as requested and a few tips. Will refinish handrails of stairs removing them and refinish in shop. We decided to postpone that work. Other companies wouldn't even consider refinishing handrails. His team is excellent and they finished the work over a 2day period. Less time than we thought. Team was right on with stain selection after trying several stains. Floors looked great! We were working on other projects and 10days later I noticed some imperfections in the finish. I called and John called me back the same day. Team was sent out 2 days later to lightly sand areas, buff and apply another coat of polyurethane. John and team smiled the whole time. The team takes a lot of pride in a job well done. Reminded me of an artist taking pride in a painting! Would highly recommend K&K and will use again. Floors are beautiful!

Excellent company with great customer service. Terri is very pleasant to work with and very responsive. The actual crew was professional. I would certainly use this company again.

I researched many flooring companies and found the reviews for this one were excellent. They also gave the lowest estimate on the best quality flooring. i chose Mirage oak auburn click lock engineered wood flooring which was installed above grade on concrete with a high quality underlayment. Everything was completed with good quality workmanship in a timely manner. I had some concerns about whether our concrete floor was level enough for the click lock engineered floor, and I was assured by Mr So (who no longer works there) that it was. He also said the underlayment I chose would prevent any hollow sound, and it doesn't. After installation, I can feel where the floor is lower as I walk on it. I am not sure if this will cause a problem over the years, but the floor looks absolutely beautiful. I was worried the click lock would not feel like hard wood and I had read that having an uneven base floor can cause hollow sounds nad you can feel the floor move as you walk. My reservations about the system were valid, but I still love the flooring. Since the cost to level the floor would have been exhorbitantly high, and also would have made our ceiling height a problem in one hallway, the engineered flooring really was our only option. One year later, and we have had no problems. The staff at K&K were very professional.

I just got off the phone with the 'Secretary' or whoever answered the phone and the Lady was nice and courteous but could NOT ANSWER any of the questions regarding the service I was asking about. I mean why is she answering the phone then?

First of all I was very pleased with the quality of the final product and the workmanship of the installation crew. However, dealing with the people at K&K to arrange the estimate through the product delivery and beyond was a bit trying. When I called to request an estimate, the lady that answered the phone said she was busy and would call me back in five minutes. About five hours later, I called her back. She claimed she had called me back and left a voicemail. There was no voicemail. It appears from my phone log that she had called back more than an hour after my call to her while I was on the phone with another call. The call rolled over to my voicemail but she simply hung up. It appears she would have been perfectly happy to not pursue my business and had I not called again, I suspect I never would have heard from her. I was able to arrange for an estimate. I was impressed with the estimator and professionalism. He presented our selection options well and explained the process in sufficient detail. He emailed me a complete written estimate within a day or so of the visit. The price was in the middle of my three estimates and based on the that and the feeling I got from his presentation, I selected K&K for the work. I needed to make a deposit to secure a spot with the installation crew. I called K&K and gave my credit card info to the same lady who is not in to leaving voicemails to her customers. She called me back a couple of hours later and said my credit card was not valid asking if I could send a check. Knowing my credit card was valid, I asked her to recheck the credit card info that I gave her. I re-read her all the info and without an acknowledgement from her that she had the info and wether or not it matched what she had tried previously-- she hung up without as much as a goodbye. I called her back in an hour or so and confirmed that the card payment went through. I then got a call from the estimator apologizing that he had made a mistake on the estimate and that the actual cost would be $300 more than stated on the quote. I more or less accepted the apology and explanation but wondered why he didn't offer to eat some of the additional cost. I then got a very apologetic email saying that he hoped I believed him that it was an honest mistake and that I did not suspect that he had intentionally done a bait and switch with the figures. I replied to the email saying that I was of course not happy hearing that the cost would be higher but that I did think it was an honest mistake and I accepted his apology. He then answered that he was happy to hear this and would split the $300 difference with me and knock $150 from my bill. I guess this would not have happened if I said I did not believe him. He said he was aware that he needed to send me a new bill reflecting the $150 discount but I never did get it. The install and final product was easily the best part. The crew did a fantastic job. Very neat and professional. They moved and then replaced all the furniture very carefully. We had just had the upstairs painted prior to the carpeting and I was impressed with how careful they were to not mar the new paint. They worked quickly and cleaned up very thoroughly afterwards. Upon leaving, they asked me if I had paid in full or still owed a balance. I thought it odd that they wouldn't know. I had not received the adjusted invoice as promised but I calculated what I believed to be the correct balance and gave the crew a check. The estimator called me the next day and said that I had overpaid the balance by about $47 dollars. When he mentioned the amount of my check the numbers did not agree with what I had written in my checkbook register or what I recalled making out the check for. He did not have the check in front of him but said he would look when he got back to the office and let me know what he found. I suspect the same lady that won't leave a voicemail and can't accurately record credit card numbers over the phone doesn't know how to read a check either. Not surprisingly, three days later, I still have not heard from K&K. I suspect they discovered that my check was for the correct amount but I am waiting to see it clear my account and hoping that this is the case. So... the main thing to me is that the carpet looks great and was carefully and professionally installed with great care given to our house and belongings throughout the process. We are very pleased with the look and feel of our new carpet. I wish the interactions with the K&K Team had gone a little smoother but all in all would use them again as final product is everything we wanted.

I hired K&K because of the reviews here and on Checkbook. I was not disappointed. The quality of the hardwood floor installation is exceptional. Tight seams, everything lined up beautifully, finishing details look wonderful. The team was punctual and professional. The carpet was sub-contracted out, but it also is beautifully done. I had two complaints - we were shopping on a budget, so it would have been helpful if the pricing information was displayed in the showroom. As it is we had to ask the salesperson the price of everything we were looking at. The second was that although I had made my schedule requirements clear in our initial meeting, at the time of the measurement the salesperson had not actually booked us for that timeframe and was no longer sure if he could. It turned out fine and they were able to get a crew to us, so no harm done.

It went good. At first they didn't cover everything from the dust. The guys were friendly and professional. They helped move the furniture.

Outstanding. Was a few hundred dollars less than other 2 vendors we got quotes from. We had used KK before a few months earlier on our main residence and we were pleased. Everything was done professionally and on time. Would definitely recommend them. They also replaced carpets on the upper levels of the home, also very well done.

K&Ks estimate was several hundred below other Angies list vendor estimates. Came to the house to survey proposed work - communiciated their estimate by email. When we agreed to the estimate they came by for 1/2 payment down which is fairly standard (purchase materials). One installer came on time (8:00 AM) brought in two others after the stairs were finished (1:00PM) to work on the upper landing and to complete all the finishing work. We are very satisified with K&Ks work ethic and quality. Stairs and landing floor looks great. Nice job, courteous team.

Excellent, excellent work. Each of the 4 workmen - Areli, Arbey, Antonio and Saul - was very knowledgeable about flooring and worked long hours to ensure a professional job. They were helpful in solving problems as they arose. They made an effort to clean up every day before they left. They were great to have in the house and work with. We would recommend them at the highest level. Although none was a native English speaker, they understood and spoke English and were easy to communicate with. The entire job took 4 days.

They have great service, good products and good installation.

Update 2: I received the estimate later in the day that K&K replied to my voicemail below. The quote was a bit above average (about $1000 more than the comparable quotes), but certainly not unfair. The office manager called today to notify me that they were going to oppose this review and asked if I would be willing to remove it from the posting. Unfortunately, I do not think that is fair. Perhaps, by some fluke, their email was lost in delivery when they originally sent the quote (it was not in my inbox, trash, or junk mail), but they certainly did not make any other reasonible effort to follow up with me or return my voicemails until about two weeks later. Regardless, my experience with K&K was very poor. This may be an exception - looking at the other reviews (which I did before I called them) they seem to have a fine track record. However, in my case, they were not terribly helpful when they came to do the estimate, they were not responsive, and they seemed to make it clear that they were not interested in the job. We happily went with another service provider recommended here on Angies List. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: The day after I posted this and left another voicemail, I received a call from the estimator stating that he sent the estimate two days after he measured. I checked my inbox and junk mail and did not receive anything; however, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say it "got lost in the mail". The estimator stated that he would send a copy of the estimate right away - I will update the review if/ when I receive it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was shocked. Our daughter has pretty severe allergies, and we were looking for an alternative to carpet for our basement. From the research we did, cork sounded like a good option. Based on the stellar reviews from Angie's List, we had high expectations. Unfortunately, the estimated showed up late, he spent about 10 minutes measuring, gave very terse responses, showed us three small samples, then stated that he would give us an estimate in two days. Almost two WEEKS later and no response. No estimate, no reply to emails, no reply to voicemails. Maybe I was unlucky and got their one bad employee, maybe I caught someone on a bad day, or maybe they aren't the quality firm that the reviews suggested. Their unresponsive service would certainly put them at the bottom of my list. I understand that $6000 to $10,000 isn't a huge job, but if theyre willing to disregard a prospective customer, then I would have to question the quality of their management and the quality of the firm in general. I would encourage anyone else considering flooring to seek other options first!

K&K Floors was among the vendors who received high marks on Angie?s List, so they were among the companies we contacted to refinish hardwood floors and replace all of our carpet, upstairs and downstairs. We met with a salesperson at our home and at their showroom and their estimates were quite good, so we decided to give K&K our jobs. However, things began getting bad with missed appointments and inaccurate contracts. We were just about ready to go with another company, but decided to call K&K one more time, because their prices were so reasonable. One of the owners answered and told us that our salesperson was let go because he did not represent the quality K&K wanted to present. She asked that we give them another chance and we are so glad that we did. John Kim took over our account and honored all previous estimates. John was able to answer all of our concerns and everything was finally handled very professionally. We had the floors refinished this week. The third coat of urethane was applied today and the floors look marvelous! Technicians, Ti (sp) and Pablo, have been together at K&K for nine years and work with the precision of a championship doubles tennis team. I think Ti was almost more excited with the final results than we are. We couldn?t be happier with K&K Floors. We plan to have them back this fall to carpet our upstairs bedrooms and then will have them return next spring to carpet the entire downstairs.

They were outstanding. The price was the best around and the delivery was right at the requested time.

They gave me the quote over the phone because I was out of town. They started the job the day after they came and saw it. He was able to work with me even though I’m not there. They’ve been nice and good to deal with. We ran to some issues because our hardwood floors were pre-finished floors and he said he didn’t know that so he said that requires extra sanding. The things like that as far as budgeting, I would have liked to have known that and the questions to ask.

The work went very well. The workers arrived on time. The carpet layers were done the first day and everyting was perfect. We had just had the basement and bedroom painted and the walls had no marks. The hardwood took 1 1/2 days but it looked great too. I would use K&K again. Also, John the salesman was a real pleasure to work with.

Their response time is amazing. He gave me as much time. They're pretty far away from here, it's about an hour's drive so for them to be open to just taking a phone call, to me it says a lot. It made me feel a lot better. It's a $20,000 job. It would have been significantly more from other local distributors here. I've had much higher estimates from local floor people here. I've only been in this house for 12 years but there's been a lot of settlements so he'll be furling all that down including their Mirage. From what I understand and what I've read, it's the Cadillac of hardwood floors. There are lots of cuts, lots of diagonal rooms because it's kind of one of those open architecture homes. It's probably the reason why others were thinking it's a lot of work but my friends who consulted with Angie's List said it's one of the easiest and cleanest jobs she's ever been involved in. I want to see them come in and see the work done but they'll be removing all carpets and paddings, screwing down the subfloor to make sure that I don't get any squeak. They 'll do all the hardwood, trim it up, and haul off all the junk. He was really incredibly helpful with helping me to determine what would be the best for the house, what would be the best for me as a person and we determined the product line that would be appropriate. I went to the higher grade. He made a suggestion for a lower grade and it wasn't really necessary. It was me who went to the higher grade. It was definitely a consumer-driven decision which I think is another cool thing. I made the phone call and he was here within the week. They answered the phone quickly and set up the appointment as soon as it fit both of our schedules. He was here in my home which says something. He drove all that way without knowing whether or not there was going to get a sale. They were here exactly when he said he was going to be here. I had a question about something and he was very honest and open about their ability to address that need and they're very, very professional. I wish he would call me by my first name instead of Ms. Sharon.

Estimate: John Kim was very good. He was knowledgable, straight forward, and promptly provided a competitive estimate for refinishing the hardwood floors in my townhouse. Work: Sand, stain, and apply 2 coats of oil-based polyurethane to the floors. Also sand, stain, and apply 2 coats of oil-based polyurethane to two sets of stairs. John did recommend only 2 coats, but based on the results, I would recommend that you definitely apply 3 coats to the floors. We only had to apply a third coat due to issues with the finish, but the overall results (even without the problems with the finish) were much better. Pros: The hardwood floors look great. K&K mostly stands by their work, and has been responsive when I have had an issue. Cons: We had some issues during their work. I'm surprised about this based on their exceptional reviews. Issue 1: One of their employees spent the day smoking inside our master bathroom while sanding the floors. The bathroom walls reeked like smoke, and we had to clean them off thoroughly. This issue was resolved after I complained. Issue 2: The second coat of polyurethane did not adhere to the floors properly. We had bubbles, streaks, rough spots throughout the finish all over the house. This issue was resolved - K&K returned immediately to re-prep and re-coat the floors. Issue 3: The stair treads were improperly sanded, and as a result the stain looks blotchy and unprofessional. The workers first sanded with an angle grinder, and hand chiseled the tread edges. They may have sanded some of the tread with progressively finer grit sandpaper, but they neglected to smooth out the edges on the tread where they had chiseled. As a result, the stain did not apply evenly, and the stain looks messy. This issue was not resolved. I notified K&K about this problem, and they did attempt to 'fix' it, by reapplying stain and polyurethane, but because the issue is with the sanding, they were unable to rectify the problem (without re-sanding). Each attempt to fix the issue only made the treads look worse. Hopefully I can fix this myself, or I can hire another company that will re-sand and refinish all of the treads. Overall: K&K performs decent refinishing, but does not perfect the details. Look elsewhere for stairs, as these are all about the details.

It was great! We had one minor problem but overall the service was excellent. It was our first time using them. John Kim was the person who set everything up and made sure we basically had all the materials we needed and that everything else was installed. He was excellent.
