The installation was a breeze. The installers arrived on time and were very clean and professional. They looked over the area and prepped the counter basis to perfection before they would install the granite. They were very careful and professional. They checked and double checked to make sure everything was perfect and the granite was securely in place. They sealed the counters and they look AWESOME! I love the way the granite was cut to maximize its beauty. Thank you FFM & G!
Description of Work: We were doing a kitchen remodel and we needed new counter tops and an island counter. I was very apprehensive about this big purchase because I did not know what company to trust. My husband and I went to FFM & Gat the Fairfax location and met Paul Greening. My worries were over! Paul walked us through the whole process. He was AWESOME!. He took us into the showroom (which is amazing) and stayed with us the whole time show and explaining their different slabs of Granite. I was blown away on how well Paul knew the inventory. We finally found the pattern we liked and Paul had 9 slabs moved before we found the perfect one. Paul can see defects in a slab of Granite and will not sell it if he is not happy with it. How awesome is that. They are honest people and very knowledgeable. I would not go anywhere else. Paul is the best!

We are ecstatic about the granite! We stumbled into Fairfax Marble unsure about what we wanted. Paul patiently guided us through our options, designed, redesigned, and redesigned again, until he was sure we would be completely satisfied -- and we are!! Installation was painless and pofessional. Customer service like we experienced at Fairfax Marble is so rare these days. If I could give an A++, I would.

Fairfax Marble and Granite provided countertops for our newly renovated kitchen in DC. We had a terrible time trying to decide what type of surface to use and Paul in the Fairfax location was really patient and informative as we were making our choice. We ended up with a honed granite for our main surface and honed Carrara marble for our island surface. Paul worked with us to make sure the cuts were where we wanted and that the stone would have the look we were hoping for. He spent literally hours with us on extremely hot summer days, going through the granite yard, looking at the choices, listening to us go back and forth, entertaining our children and answering our questions. He really went above and beyond. I don't think the prices are particularly cheaper than any other place nearby but for the service and the quality, we were very happy with our whole experience there. We also thought the selection was quite good relative to some other places we visited. The slabs were fabricated and delivered/installed pretty quickly, in a matter of weeks, and they really made this particular portion of our renovation very painless. I would go back there in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: Provided granite for the main surface of our renovated kitchen and marble for our kitchen island countertop. Fabricated entire kitchen counters with cut-outs for 2 sinks and breakfast bar.

We picked the stone, they came and measured, installed it the next week and it looks absolutely fabulous!
Description of Work: Fairfax Marble did a wonderful job on our new countertops. Chris was very professional and great to deal with. We picked the stone for our bathroom remodel in Sep and weren't ready for it until Dec. Depite OUR delays, there were no issues on Fairfax Marble's end. They have a lot of unique stone in their shop. We plan to go back when we do our other bathroom.

Once the slabs were picked out, I returned to their location and Tom Hill plotted the best way to have the slabs cut to show off the beauty of the granite. The marble was easier as it was mostly white, but the granite had a lot of beautiful detail that we wanted to make sure looked best. The countertops were cut and they called me to set up installation. Everything went very well with the installation, although I didn't really expect it would take so long. The installers were here about 5 hours, but everything was completed in one day, including installing the sinks, faucets and cooktop. They did a great job with the installation, cleaned up everything and the counters looked even better than I could have hoped for. Really nice crew, friendly, professional, courteous, and very concerned about doing a good job. I definitely would use this company again.
Description of Work: I chose my granite kitchen countertop and marble bathroom countertop after consulting with their sales person, Tom Hill, in their Fairfax location. I looked at the selection of stone slabs they had to offer and Tom helped direct my search by asking questions about the colors in the rooms I was planning to use the countertops in. This was of great help and we found the perfect slabs almost immediately. Tom was also very helpful in giving me a lot of information about the stone I picked out, how to care for it, how it would be cut and polished, and the installation process. After a second visit to their location, I made my final decisions on the slabs, the edging, the top coating and the sinks.

They were a good company to work with. Ogun was very good to work with and very responsive. They did use a subcontractor to do a lot of the work, the man was Dorel, and he did a good job as well. Both of their crews were excellent. Ogun was really helpful with design stuff; he would search for medicine cabinets for me and he also checked online for items and fixtures I needed. He has a very good design and color sense. I would use them again.
Description of Work: They did quite a bit of work for me. I hired them initially to install granite countertops in my kitchen. Then they also did electrical work for me, and they repaired my casement windows. They installed light fixtures for me too and, I got my kitchen cabinets through them. They also did a bathroom remodel for me and a half bath remodel.

We were very pleased with our overall experience. They had a lot of stones to choose from. The prices were competitive. The representative in the shop did a good job of explaining the process and timing. The measuring crew showed up right on time and was very efficient. We were given an opportunity to see the layout of the counter pieces on the stone and the representative was very effective in describing how the seams would look and the options. The installation crew was perhaps the most impressive. They also showed up right on time and they were extremely professional and skilled. There were some tricky aspects to installing one of our faucets and they came up with a very creative solution and had everything necessary to implement it on their truck. They offered some great on the spot advice on a modification to the backsplash. Nothing was damaged during installation and they left everything neat and clean. (The last counter company we hired dinged the cabinets and paint, left almost our entire house coated in stone dust and walked off with some of my tools so I was paying careful attention).

On thing I appreciated about this company is everyone was helpful. If they didn't know the answer they immediately found someone who had the answer ( in picking out granite) they explained how the process worked from choosing the granite to how it would be installed. The installers were quick about their installation & efficient. they went out of their way to do a small cut & glue a piece of granite I had for my garage at no extra cost. The installers explained about the "granite shield" protective sealer & provided the information needed to mail in the warranty information to the company with the warranty. The installers were kind and answered any questions I had. When I visited the showroom after it was purchased & installed, the staff was courteous & friendly.
I had a little difficulty in locating the site; however it was worth locating- I was greeted promptly; Mehmet listened to my concerns; I had been previously to other companies that I felt were not listening to what I was saying I wanted which was a solid slab of granite not one with seams especially located where the other company wanted to place them-I asked for options- they did not call back-( I had felt that the counter was small enough to be able to be carved as one unit )and -If the slab needed to be in pieces I felt I should have input as to where the seams would be- I had measurements from a competitor so Mehmet was able to match the amount previously quoted with an adjustment made for it being one piece- He also was able to point out colors that would match my existing cabinets & paint- He was able to supply pictures of existing jobs done- I left with a sample block to live with for the week & a scheduled appointment for the following week with measurement to be done by their company. I did have to give one half of the quote at that meeting to hold the granite I thought I was going to go with- After having it in the kitchen for several days I did decide it was a poor color choice & did return & met with Mehmet again- Again he patiently & respectfully listened to what I did not like about the piece I had & directed me to other options- Again I left this time with a 2 pieces of granite - Evaluated it over the weekend- made a choice - called Monday & the granite was installed by the end of the week. I was amazed at professionalism of all involved; Mehmet called that morning & told me the time the first set of installers would arrive; two men removed the counter & plumbing careful of my floors; furniture & walls- another crew arrived with the one piece countertop & all 4 carried put in place the new countertop-- the first 2 installers left & the remaining two hard wotkers did the finishing work again being very careful of my home- a couple hours later the plumber came to install the faucet & garbage disposal - overall a positive experience- the counters are all that I could ask for and more

It was an excellent experience. Kirsten was very helpful working with me to find the right piece we were looking for to save us a little bit of money. They were able to expedite my order, I bought the piece on a Saturday (which had to be ordered) and they were able to install it on a Thursday. There were a couple of things I was very impressed with them by. They are more then willing to move the slabs of granite around so you can look at the selection and make sure you are happy with your choice; they are very accommodating. They work very hard to match your budget and what you are willing to spend. They make sure you are happy with the materials you are selecting.

Response from Fairfax Marble & Granite LLC
Hi, Thanks for the feedback. I would like to clarify. With globalization of the world and US economy, recession, and a more fierce compatition as a result, industry has changed significantly. Companies lost lots of business, had to sacrifice a lot from their service, crafstmenship. Wrong decisions led a lot of companies to bankruptcy. We at Fairfax Marble and Granite decided to cut cost witıouht loweing our services, or quality of the product throught the recession period. We decided to keep investing on what we beleive in. A new measurement technique was one of those improvements. We were able to adapt digital measurements. This was a method of measurement requieing us to put a lot of investment towards, this was a medhod of measurement requiring us to put a lot more professional, experience, and education towards. This unfortunately is a method of measurement costing a lot more than hand measuring & hand templating. The result however is not usually but always perfect at all times for all jobs. We decided that it is not fair to go out to measure for estimate, and reflect the cost of it to only our customers making a purchase from us. We were able to lower our cost per measurement while getting much better outcome. We have been reflecting the reduction of the cost to our customers. We still think that we did a right decision at the time as most of our customers admire our good work at reasonable prices. We may revise this decision later on depending on the market conditions, and requirements. The second thing I would like to address is responsibility. Free estimate is not on any of our advertisings currently. We respect everybody's thought. We in the meantime think that we can not be held responsible for something we have not promised, set expectation for by any means. We have a powerful, and experienced sales force. They usually try to acoomodate customers estimate requests. The other thing they try to ensure is to not make a promise for something we can not honor. This requires them to ask for some of the clients to visit one of our showrooms with a diagram of their project or e-mail it to us. We apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused and hope that this clarifies the reasons of our practice.

We had visited 3 granite sales locations and found the best match of granite from Fairfax Marble and Granite. Prices were completely competitive with the other granite companies that we had visited. Ogun at the Chanitlly office was very helpful in the selection of our granite counter top. He sent us home with several "samples" and that turned out to be extremely helpful, as ones we thought might work well in our kitchen did not look well when we brought in the samples. We would suggest people take home samples to be sure you've picked the correct granite (if possible.) There was a small counter top "missing" from the order when the installers arrived. The "missing" piece was delivered in a timely manner for the installers to install. They secured our dishwasher to the granite. We have been very pleased with the end result. We will use them again for any future granite needs.
Description of Work: Fairfax Marble and Granite ripped out our existing counter tops and installed the granite counter tops. The entire "process" of demolition and installation took about 4.5 hrs. The plumber which we ordered from Fairfax Marble and Granite installed the new faucet and secured all the pipes under the sink. The plumber arrived as they were finishing up the installation. The work was completed in less than 6 hrs.

My experience is with the Chantilly location not the Fairfax location and it was not positive. My suggestion is be alert. Granite was fine, install okay, but service and disclosure need work. Here were my incidents: The associate ( Kristen) assisting me with the purchase consistently changed the price quoted to me. Even after the final sales contract was signed ? measurements had been done. She offered free sinks then on the next visit said that could not be done. She quoted a price for faucets then on the next visit said they were incorrect prices. She told me plumbing was one price then on the next visit said the price could not be honored because of the scope of the project. When I questioned her pricing she told me that she could not lower the price because she was not receiving a large commission from the job. Really not my concern and not the issue? it was about disclosure. I was told paying a $500 deposit for a granite slab would ensure that the slab could be held until final measurements could be taken. After measurements, I could come in and I would select what section of the granite to cut. When I arrived to select the section, I was told by Kristen that the manager did not want to cut the slab that I held with a deposit. I was directed to another one ? that was not to my liking. What was the purpose of the deposit? In the end we outlined the slab I initially selected. I left wondering if it really would be used for my countertops. I?d gone too far to walk away ? I have given them cash deposits and paperwork said no refunds. The installation. On that morning, I was told the faucets sold to me were not available. The manager (Mehmet)called to offer another set and I agreed. The granite for the bathroom had a crack ? why had this not been noticed prior to arrival. The manager on that day- prepared a new top and it was installed that day. Installer came back and worked until 9pm. The back splash in the kitchen was not flushed with the other backsplash and they corrected it that day. And the dishwasher fell out the following week. The dishwasher ? I paid for a brace to support the dishwasher installation. The sales associate told me that this was the standard with the company otherwise the dishwasher would move and make a noise. Plus, it made it easier for their customers to replace the dishwasher. I was not told there were other methods. The installer never told me he was not installing a brace or using another method. He decided not to secure the top of the dishwasher at all. But instead adjusted the dishwasher feet so that the top would be tight across the granite. Well ? it fell out. The manager sent the same installer on a Saturday evening. The installer drilled holes into the granite and secured it that way. Not what I bought and I had no option because I turned my back and he started drilling. He never explained the issue to me and I have no idea if he disclosed this to the manager. I called the manager to discuss and he informed me that three options are used to install the dishwasher and securing it directly to the granite was one. Well why didn?t the happen on the install date ? none of the options the manager explained occurred on the install date. 12 days after the install ? I called the manager and told him the dishwasher is making a noise. It had not made the noise before install and it made this noise after the day of install before it fell out. Response- it?s the dishwasher not the install. But, he said he would send someone over in two weeks? I requested a different installer to assess the dishwasher. He sent the same installer and I send him away and asked that the manager call me. Still waiting.

I would like to address each one of the issues one by one; With the price incease issue, our estimates are preliminary until the final meaasurements are taken. After the final measurements are done, we reflect any difference to our clients. It is clearly stated on our sales agreements that it is done that way. With the slab selection issue, this particular customer's job did not need a full slab and the color she selected was a consistent one. We offered her to cut it from a smaller slab from the same lot and this is how it is always done. The deposit held was for enough material to get her job done out of. We acknowledged that there may have been a misunderstanding so we marked & fabricated her job our of the bigger slab, the slab she wanted to use. With the faucet issue, she is right. The sales associate should have checked on the day of purchase and let her know that the faucet model was no longer in stock. We offered her even the upgraded faucet options at no additional charge to cover our mistake. With the stone had a crack issue, and why it was not noticed prior to installation, natural stone is very fragile especialy on the cut out areas. The crack she had was right where the sink cut out is places. Such cracks may develop during transportation, installation. We are responsible for such cracks so we replaced it on the same day. This was the best we could do. With the DW attachment issue, it is not realistic to ecpect a sales associate to mention of every single installation steps and methods to the customer. Our installers get two years of a training before becoming a head installer. I wish we could compact the information and could deliver it to our clients in 5 minutes. The DW installation for this client was made right. We sent the installers once more just to make her happy. The DW making noise is not related to dw attachment method. The DW attachmenrs are done to prevent DW from shaking, It does not convert an old DW to a new one making no noise. I personaly called and left her a voice mail on the same day, so we do not accept the accusation that we have never called.

Went to their showroom. They had a large selection of granite to choose from. There was staff available to walk you through the process explaining pros and cons of certain styles etc. Mehmet who was helping us brought out a large piece of marble outside so we could see what it would look like under different light. We ordered the granite they came out to measure when agreed to and arrived when they said they would for the installation. Our house and cabinets are old not everything is at 90 degrees and all our cabinets don't line up. Mehmet was very good about making sure that the measurement took all this into account and tweaked overhangs so that it would look even. They did a great job . It looks great. And I am not sure how many other places would take the time to make everything look its best. I would highly recommend them.

We contracted Fairfax Marble & Granite to replace our countertops with new granite counters. We found them to be very responsive and helpful. Their extensive inventory of granite provided us with the exact slab of granite for our kitchen. After checking with 4 other companies we decided to go with Fairfax Marble & Granite. Their prices were comparable, we were not able to find a comparable piece of granite and their continued patience with our questions. The installation was scheduled within a few days. During the installation the installers handle a number of idiosyncrasies with our kitchen layout and a seam issue with the particular piece of granite. We were impressed with the installers willingness to complete the job by staying late into the evening. When a specific piece of equipment was needed Mehmet brought it to the installers and stayed until he was satisfied with the result, as were we. In addition, the cutout from our sink was given to us finished nicely. Overall we were very satisfied with our Fairfax Marble and Granite experience. Their followed on a job is unbeatable and we will use them again for any granite needs.

(See my update at the end). I did not have work completed with this company because my interactions with them left me feeling that they needed some training in professional behavior and less pressure to make sales. I sent a request for a quote on a kitchen countertop through their web site and the next day, Sunday, Warren left me a phone message saying that he was at the Home Expo and that he had two free tickets for me to meet with him. I thought that was nice and the prompt response was appreciated because they aren't open on Sundays, but I already had plans for that day and I didn't receive his message until late that night. I had a hectic work week and was on travel for part of it so I didn't call him back, but I expected to visit the store the following weekend. (If he had sent me an e-mail, I probably would have responded, but it wasn't worth an international call.) I got one more phone message that week from Warren and when I tried to call near closing time on Friday to see if he would be working Saturday I didn't reach anyone, or get a voicemail. I didn't try the cell phone number he gave me. (He definitely held that against me later.) The following Saturday I drove to their Chantilly showroom, not realizing that they actually have two showrooms and that Warren works at the one in Fairfax. When I arrived I explained to their accountant (Kristen?), who immediately offered to help me, the situation about Warren and she didn't seem to know who he was. Or maybe she just wanted his commission? I showed her a diagram of my kitchen and explained what I wanted. Before we even looked at stone she gave me a non-itemized quote and then asked if I had quotes from other companies yet. I said I would by later that day, so she automatically knocked off $300 and threw in a free sink. That sounded good, but she couldn't give me details on what the quote included and she seemed very young, maybe just out of high school, and a bit green. That sort of bothered me. Anyway, she was very attentive and showed me a lot of stone that I liked. She gave me samples and I went on my way to get more quotes. After talking to my husband and based on the price Kristen quoted us we decided to go with Fairfax Marble and Granite for our countertop but to pick out a stone together. I figured that I would try to work with Warren again. I called him back on the number he left me and his tone was completely different from his messages. He sounded bothered by me even contacting him and very short. I finally understood from him that he was at the Fairfax location, so that is where my husband and I headed. When we walked in the door no one helped us for a while then Warren came out and when I introduced myself he was very aggressive with me. He wanted to know why I hadn't bothered to go to the Home Expo the previous Sunday - he had saved me two tickets! And why hadn't I called him back during the week? I was caught off guard, but explained to him the situation. Then I told him I had talked to Kristen earlier but I was looking for an itemized estimate to compare with my other quotes. He cut me off and said that she doesn't do sales and she doesn't know what she is doing. He said "Let's start over", shoved a clipboard in my hand to record the stones that we liked, and sent us unaccompanied down to the showroom while he went outside to make a phone call on his cell. I already knew what stone I wanted, but I thought my husband should see the stone in slab form, which is a different experience from a 4 inch sample. But they really didn't have anything in our price range on the top of the stacks. It was all rare exotics and we could see few stones in the lowest price range (our price range!) because they were all buried. So we returned shortly and Warren was getting off the phone. He wanted to know why I had told Kristen I had trouble getting in touch with him - that wasn't true! Actually, I never told her that. He said that he was just talking to her and that she realized that she had really messed up and was in tears. REALLY???!!!! He made that poor girl cry? I was ready to leave right then and quietly said so to my husband, but he still wanted an estimate. At this point several older couples Warren had met at the Home Expo the previous weekend started showing up and I heard them saying they wanted rare exotic stones, not the budget granite we were looking for! So he rushed us into his office. He continued to be very brusque in his questioning as he gathered information for the estimate. I told him I wanted Santa Cecilia or a similar variegated pattern. He said, "Actually, if you're going to sell your house you want Ubatuba." Actually, no, I didn't want a black stone, I thought it was too dark. Again he cut me off and told me, "No, it's green!" Whatever color it is, even if it costs a little less, it's not what I want! He finally got it. So then I asked him about the cost of having my very large peninsula installed in one piece. Dominion Granite and Marble was going to charge me an additional $250. But he immediately said he couldn't do it. It just could NOT be done because it was too heavy. Well, okay then. Then I saw that he was adding "countertop removal" to our estimate and told him that we wouldn't need that because we could remove the counters ourselves and our waste removal company would haul them away. He looked at me and said, "Do you even know HOW to remove a counter top?" "Yes", was all I said, but, sheesh! Then he shoved a written estimate in our hands (complete with counter top removal estimate!) and started ushering us out the door of his office. The estimate was for $600 more than what Kristen had quoted me (even without counter top removal). I asked him why it was so much. Again he said Kristen didn't know what she was doing and had quoted us incorrectly. I asked about a free sink. No. He basically pushed us out the door as he warmly welcomed one of the waiting couples into his office. I left the store seething. I woke up in the middle of that night seething. I have never felt so abused by a salesperson in my entire life. I half hoped that Warren would call me back so that I could give him a piece of my mind. But he didn't. He never called me again. I don't know if he was having a bad day and decided to take it out on me. (He did seem to be in a bad mood even before I arrived.) But his extreme aggressiveness and terrible attitude did not do Fairfax Marble and Granite a favor. To be fair, I should note that while Warren was busy abusing me and trying to manage all of the couples arriving, there was one other salesman basically twiddling his thumbs off to the side. He helped us find some stones on the showroom floor in my price range and seemed pretty nice. Too bad I wasn't "allowed" to work with him. I think Fairfax Marble and Granite may have too much pressure to make sales and commissions. UPDATE: Not long after my original post I received a call, and a couple of follow up calls from Mehmet Topcu. He was very nice and wanted to talk to me about my experience. He also sent an e-mail that said: "I would like to talk to you in depth about the experience you had with our company. What you wrote on Angie's list is really valuable for us and we sincerely thank you for posting that review there. The customer reviews and feedbacks are the only way for us to find out how we are doing. We take responsibility for Warren's actions and all of our employee's actions. We, in the meantime, would like to make sure that we corrrect our mistakes, and better ourselves. I apologize for the inconvenience we caused again, and hoping to have chance to talk with you when it is convenient for you. I am ready to make time for myself for a phone call when you have time. Please let me know when would be good for you.:I would like to talk to you in depth about the experience you had with our company. He wrote: "Dear Mrs. Fournier, In regards to your recent experience at Fairfax Marble, I would like to take the opportunity to express my sincere regrets that you felt your experience was not all that it should have been. At no point was it my intention to cause you to feel underserviced and not important to our business. Being a family business we certainly appreciate anyone who comes through our doors and I personally would like to say I apologize for any discomfort which I may have caused you. It is our hope that you will consider returning to us for all of your project needs. You can deal directly with the owner, Mr. Fazli, and he has assured me that he will do all in his power to satisfy all of your project needs. As a family business we rely upon comments on the internet, it is our hope that you will give us another chance to satisfy your needs and reconsider your comments online. Mr. Fazli can be reached at 703.204.2222 or fazli@fairfaxmarble.com. Sincerely, Warren Fairfax Marble & Granite" I was glad to have them contact me and attempt to right the wrong. I updated their responsiveness, professionalism, and overall experience ratings as a result.

I was very happy with the process. It was a little more expensive than the other shops we looked at (and we shopped around quite a bit) but I fell in love with the slab we chose. Mehmet was wonderful about showing us multiple slabs, talking about the features of each stone, and preparing the design. I really enjoyed working with him, and felt like he took very good care of us. The installation process went well -- our walls were not straight, so it took them awhile to get the counters in. I would not recommend the plumber -- he did not seem entirely competent, and our contractor was not satisfied with the way he installed the faucet and some extra work that had to be done under the sink. We ended up paying about $500 to have the faucet and other plumbing installed, which seems excessive, especially with the quality of the work.
Description of Work: We purchased marble -- which included fabrication and installation.

Rob in Fairfax location was VERY helpful in helping us select and narrow down granite choices. He always made himself available to answer all of our questions. He did an awesome job with layout and family commented that you can barely see the seams (and it was a VERY tough pattern to layout that had lots of movement). The installers were late but due to circumstances out of their control b/c of the snow. We had no snow shovels to clear the driveway for them, so we borrowed a neighbor's and the installers shoveled it for us :-) The plumber was very meticulous with installing our new faucet, hooking the plumbing and disposal back up.
Description of Work: Purchased rare exotic granite countertop Magma Gold (they call it "Golden Roma" - approx 45 sq. ft) for a U-shaped countertop with long peninsula - included Brita 18 gauge double sink; had their plumber hook the plumbing back up.

Companies that have websites with "contact us" forms need to pay attention to customers who use it. If you are not interested in the work, fine. But you do need to respond or you send the message that you are not professional and will discourage people from ever using you in the future.
Description of Work: I emailed the company on Sept 20 with details of a scrap piece of granite I needed cut and the edges polished. To this date I have received no response.
