Absolutely great professional craftsmanship. The result was better than expected and Paulo and crew were super. From the original estimate, to scheduling the start date, to completing the work on time, to the clean-up upon completion -- all went exceedingly well, all on-time and on budget. Besides the actual work, JP Companies stands out because of the little things -- great communications, taking care to only disturb what absolutely needs to be, and most incredible, the clean-up: they back filled the sides of the project with new topsoil so that all I had to do was to plant grass seed and water. I have had many, many complements on the driveway, even from other folks in the field (including my brother-in-law who has been working concrete for over 25 years). Again, a great experience that produced great results. Without hesitation I would recommend JP Companies to anyone.

The project went smoothly from start to finish. Paulo met with me promptly after contacting him and he listened to my goal for the project and provided his approach on how it will be accomplished. He also provided a ball park price and put it in writing with a contract the next day. The team arrived at 7:45 am on the scheduled date with all of the equipment and materials ready to go. The existing concrete was removed quickly and with no issues and then the gravel was added and compacted and reinforced. The concrete came next and the team professionally smoothed it out and provided a broom swept finish. The end result was perfect and I now have a level walk way that is fully tied into the house and two new stairs that are level and perfectly measured with the stoop. They also great extra kudos for tying the new concrete into some existing concrete that was not removed and also into our stonewall. Great job.

Outstanding. Not an easy job by any means, especially with some weather problems (a fallen tree and power line delayed the project), but they did a fantastic job, were responsive, and exceeded our expectations. I did not think it would make such a difference but it looks like a new house. Would highly recommend Paulo and the team at JP.

The bidding and contacting process went very smoothly, representatives were timely and responsive. Construction started and finished as scheduled. During the layout of the concrete driveway forms, the contractor was very responsive in accommodating some very specific slope and drainage requirements I had. The stone walkway abutted some existing stone paving that was to remain. The blending of the new to the old was done very well. Overall I was was very pleased with the professionalism and communication before and during the construction and I am very pleased with the final product.

Everything went great - I was truly impressed with the ease of scheduling and my neighbors also commented on how efficient and cleanly the job was done! I have referred Paulo and JP to other neighbors and my HOA.

In the end, I received a handful of proposals but two were excellent (JP and another vendor) and it was a very difficult decision to choose. In the end, I made the decision based on who provided the first proposal (of the two on my shortlist). I plan on doing some other work in the future and will goto JP Companies first, to give them the "advantage" next time. I recommend others to add JP to their short list.

Everything went very well and the company did an excellent job. Mr. Paulo Nicolau provided the estimate, explained the process, and came at the beginning of the job, during the work to check on it, and at the end to walk us through the work and make sure we were satisfied. Before they started the work, JP Companies arranged for all the electric, gas and water lines to be marked on the property. We were on the schedule for the work to be done 3-4 weeks after signing the contract, but JP was able to move up the timing because another job they had was cancelled. Mr. Nicolau explained what would be done at each stage, and he was always available to answer questions by cell phone. The people that did the work were skilled and careful; they knew what they were doing and did it well. Beforehand the price seemed high, but once we saw the number of people need to do the work, the heavy equipment required to break up the old concrete driveway, the trucks needed to haul it away, the large cement mixer vehicle needed to pour the new concrete, and the skill required to produce a top-notch new concrete surface (not to mention the exacting brick work), we thought we received good value. JP Companies did the work over the course of four business days. At each stage, they cleaned up the debris. Overall, we were extremely satisfied.

I emailed them about performing concrete repairs on my porch. My email included a photo so that they could see what I meant. They responded to ask for the measured dimensions of the porch, promising an estimate to be emailed back the next day. Over 2 weeks later they have not responded. If they did not want the work, they could have just said so without promising something and not delivering it.

They had misjudged our bricks and the finished project didn't look right. They totally owned their mistake and fixed the issue at hand. Ended up replacing the brick for us so it looked right at no extra charge. They are a great company. I would highly recommend them.

At the time it looked nice and we were satisfied. After one year it is falling apart. We were told that because we used de icer on it that it is crumbling. We were never warned about this. It does say in the fine print of the contract that this may happen. However, we should have been strongly warned. It is a mess now and they said that it would be another $850 to fix it. I have read other reports that this should not happen if it is the correct mix of concrete.

I called 3 companies off AngiesList for an estimate to remove my old driveway and install a new one at a home I was remodeling in Vienna VA. All 3 showed up the same day for an estimate as scheduled. However, only Paulo with JP Companies was able to give me a price on the spot after he took his measurements. The other 2 companies needed to leave and decide what they would charge me. This was my first red flag for the other 2 companies that bid the job. The other red flags for the other 2 companies, was that they didn't give their best price right off the bat. They called repeatedly trying to lower their prices to beat my first and only estimate from Paulo. That is never a good thing. I prefer to work with companies that are willing to give me their best price the first time and not waste my time trying to negotiate. As I told them, "I'm not buying a new car" I told them that I had made up my mind and went with a company that I felt was honest and very reasonably priced. It was clear to me that after they heard who I went with, that they had this happen to them many times before by JP Companies. Neither of the other 2 companies that bid the job made me feel that they could or would be able to meet my deadline for the project. They were telling things like more than likely and probably, which are more red flags. Paulo was telling me that he would make it happen and put it in writing, which he did. Paulo and his men did a fantastic job and left the site clean and free of any residual debris. I'm completely satisfied and will continue to use JP Companies for all future concrete projects that I have. If you don't give them a call to bid your job, then you're probably paying way to much!

Paulo and the team built a fairly long retaining wall & helped level a sharply sloping yard. We ran into a snag early when an unmarked (thanks, Miss Utility) underground power line was discovered and needed to be rerouted to allow for the wall footer. The delay was completely on the power company but it caused a 3 week halt to the project, during which Paulo was communicating regularly with me and Dominion. We finally got Dominion to reroute the power line and the team from JP were back at the house the next day and built the wall and finished the project quickly and smoothly. Paulo even reduced the quoted price by a few hundred bucks when we didn't need as much topsoil as anticipated. Overall I was very happy with the work, which looks great and went smoothly. I'll use them again on my next masonry project.

In 40 years of employing construction contractors at my homes and professionally on major construction projects I have not had the pleasure of working with a more professional, considerate and effective contractor than JP Companies. From the estimate to the finished product, the owners Paulo and his father Nick listened carefully and collaborated as a team on everything we wanted accomplished, developed a solid work plan, and executed all in a timely and top quality manner. Quality and customer satisfaction were truly number one priorities. It was obvious from day one that they were as concerned about the quality of the finished product as we were. When adjustments needed to be made during the project to account for changing conditions or to enhance the durability and aesthetic of the final product they were the first to suggest practical, no-cost improvements. Their crew was excellent, it was impressive to watch such master concrete and masonry experts at work. The finished project exceeded our expectations for its design and beauty. The driveway and the brick walkway and stairs are exceptional in their construction and artistry. Along with the repairs to the retaining wall and main building we have rejuvenated our 60 year old home's facade and entry and prepared it for another 60 years. We would recommend JP Companies to anyone seeking an outstanding concrete and masonry contractor who lives and performs at the highest standards expressed in its top Angie's List ratings.

This project went extremely well from the time I contacted JP Companies through to the final inspection. Paulo Nicolau met me at my convenience at my home. I explained what I wanted and he made several recommendations. Within 48 hours, I received a written estimate of services and a contract. After I signed my contract, the work was scheduled within three weeks. The work crew showed up on time at 8 AM and proceeded to accomplish everything that was in the contract. They departed at 6PM after all cleanups were accomplished with the job completely finished. The driveway and walk look great and I have received many compliments on the work and the timeliness of completion from my neighbors. This was truly a job well done.

We contacted Paulo for an estimate for the work mentioned above. He came out and spent about an hour or so going over everything and providing explanations and recommendations. We weren't sure what type of patio we wanted and Paulo took the time to explain the pros and cons of different materials. Of all the contractors we contacted, Paulo spent the most time with us explaining materials and understanding what we were looking for. I informed Paulo we were getting bids for the work from 3 or 4 other companies and would make our decision in about a week. The price quoted for the work was several thousand dollars less than any other company and a couple company's either didn't provide an estimate or we never heard from them for follow-up. We hired JP Companies, Inc. to do the work and they were flexible with scheduling to fit into our schedule. The estimated time to complete was about 8-10 days due to the extensive work needed done to the patio and concrete sections. JP had the work completed in about 6 days! The crew was awesome and pleasant to work with! Paulo was there the first day as well as stopped by on several of the other days to check on the progress and to keep me informed. The patio, walkway, and brick wall are gorgeous! The replacement of concrete is concrete and it looks great as well and is sloped so water doesn't pool. They even "buried" a gutter drain under the patio so the water from the gutter would drain to the yard instead of onto the patio. To ensure water had an escape avenue on the patio, they installed 4 drain pipes as well. The evening they finished the work, we had a heavy rain and water pooled in the one corner of the patio. I called Paulo the next morning and sent a picture of the water as well. The very next morning, Paulo and his crew were there to add another drain pipe to take care of the water issue. Since then, we've had absolutely no issues with water anywhere on the patio. We would recommend Paulo and JP Companies, Inc. to anyone we know that is looking for concrete and patio work! It was a pleasure working with them on this project!

misrepresentation of available services - I found it listed both under "concrete" and "excavation" and I have a concrete driveway I want removed. Perfect I thought but they refused the job unless I used them to pour a new driveway, and that isn't in my plans. The poor rating is my option of their honesty, lie once . . .

Thought it was going to be a great company to work with during estimate, but was told I would receive a quote in 3-4 business days. Waited for week to email and check status and was told it was being worked on and I would receive it soon, but after three weeks still never heard a thing. Very disappointed in area contractors and now this is a new one to add to list.

My wife and I conducted business with Paulo. He promptly returned our inquiry, scheduled a free estimate appointment, and arrived on time. He answered all of our questions and advised us appropriately. His quote was provided in short fashion. We were most impressed with his friendly nature and knowledge of what we needed to have completed. He explained everything. We had other estimates by competitors but JP Companies quote was virtually a fixed price to complete our work. Competitor quotes had a lot of 'if this, then this price' clauses. We understood that if beneath what we were having replaced had of had problems, JP would have had to have had to charged more. But, we had confidence from the get-go that Paulo knew our situation and priced accordingly. We were originally scheduled 3-weeks out even though we were anxious to start our home rehabilitation projects. As luck would have it, JP Companies started their work almost immediately after we agreed to terms due to some of their other customers having scheduling conflicts. As an aside, we thought that our project would take a week. Well...these guys are pros! They arrived August 25 at 7:15 a.m. and finished around noon the next day. Their skill and work ethic is, in my opinion, unsurpassed. Their attention to detail was spot on. JP Companies did a fine job! Our highest recommendations go to JP Companies, Inc. For those in their servicing area looking for an honest and exceptional concrete contractor...do not hold back.

Paulo Nicolau showed up promptly for our scheduled appointment. He walked the property with us and helped us define what we wanted from our finished product. Paulo emailed a proposal a few days later. By that time we had changed our minds about several big parts of the project. A revised proposal was created based on our changes. The work crew pulled in on demolition day and broke up all of the materials to be removed. The debris was hauled away on the same day. Then the real fun began. We loved watching our home improvement project unfold. JP Companies was always receptive to our ideas and the end result was exactly what we wanted (and more). A portion of the patio was bordered with bricks and became our outdoor dining room. The old table and chairs look better than ever in their new setting. The work took a little more than two weeks due to some delays with the masonry subcontractor but it was worth waiting for. Paulo and Nick came up with some wonderful refinements such as the buried downspouts and a conduit under the carport that we can use to have electricity brought to the shed. We couldn't be more thrilled with the results and highly recommend this contractor. They bring an old-world craftsmanship to everything they do. And, even with the additions we asked for, JP Properties still brought the project in for the price quoted on our proposal.

Our existing cement slab was cracked and sunken in from a water main break a few years ago. Paulo did a fantastic job with replacing our the slab and installing a new sidewalk leading to it. Their work was professional and expert and the price was reasonable. The complete the work on the date promised and we didn't even need to be there, which was extremely convenient. We would definitely use them again in the future for other cement work if needed.
