Description of Work: They ripped up old carpet in the basement, and installed new Berber carpet. Also ripped up carpet on the main floor, exposing maple wood. They were very thorough with ripping out the carpet on the main floor even though it took longer then expected.

+ 0 moreI called about their special for hardwood stairs.The special was limited to a basic size and no landings, which I assumed to being the case. Sam came out for the estimate, and we decided to do two flights, instead of just one as we originally intended. He was able to match the existing hardwood perfectly (same brand and color). Excellent job - quite pleased. From phone call to finish, less than 2 weeks. We will probably use them later to replace more carpeting in a hallway with the same hardwood when the dogs finally destroy that as well. And, most importantly, the neighbors are jealous of our beautiful stairs.
Description of Work: They replaced carpeting on stairs (two flights, and 3 landings) with Bruce pre-finished hard wood in a town home over 1.5 days.

+ -1 moreThey were excellent. They took measurements in April. The owner or the manager came out for the initial estimate, and the worker himself came out after. Everyone was professional. The guy who came out to install dropped off the wood earlier in the week. There was a problem with his co-worker, so this guy did the work alone. He was a quiet and industrious worker. They get five stars all the way around. There was an item that I had ordered that was a special piece of wood that goes over the threshold of the room to unit wood and carpeted flooring. He showed me what had been done in other rooms and I was informed that I didn't need that piece. I was saved $60 since I didn't use that. I couldn't say much more positive things about this company. I would definitely use them again in the future. I would give strong recommendation to others who are interested in carpeting or flooring. They were very knowledgeable about their products and also about installation.
Description of Work: I purchased a Deal in March or February. It was extended so that I could purchase the hardwood flooring and set up the time to have it done in the future. We had it done this weekend.

+ -1 moreOverall I was satisfied with the srevice although, I felt it was a little pricey. They were professional and arrived on time. I bought the "Big Deal" 200 qft for $999. My job was for 380sqft. There was an added cost for shoe molding and carpet removal.The only issue I had was that there was too much waste of flooring pieces and I had almost an extra box of floor pieces. I measured the sqft myself and there was a discrepancy to their estimate. Their estimate was significantly more however, they did remeasure. And still their was almost an extra box of flooring, including a bag of wasted floor pieces.

+ -1 moreThe salemen were very punctual, professional and provided an excellent quote. Unique sent two individuals, one who worked with me on carpet options while the other took all of the necessary measurements, thereby saving me the time typically wasted watching someone measuer the rooms of my house. I asked for two quotes - one for only one room with medium grade carpet and another for the whole upstairs and stairwell with a higher-grade carpet. They provided me with excellent options for materials, explained all of their pricing and the work they would perform, and then gave me a very very competitve price. I also appreciated the fact that the company doen the install themselves - it doesn't use contractors. In the end, my wife and I decided to hold off on the big job for now. If we had decided to do the whole upstairs, we would undoubtedly have gone with Unique Floors based on its price, materials and the quality of qork that we expect based on my research and in meeting with the salesmen. Since we are only doing one room, we decided to go with a "cheaper" company (one that advertised on TV with a jingle), since we are not too worried about the long-lasting quality of the work. We anticipate doing the whole upstairs in 5-7 years when we have more flexibility to take on that type of project. Unique provided a competitive price for the whole project, but for one room it understandably came in a little higher than the bigger company (which uses contractors and saves money on the materials, I expect). All in all an excellent experience, and I would highly recommend you at least have them in for a quote and a meeting if you are thinking of taking on a carpeting project in your house.

+ -1 moreI chose this company after reading the positive reviews on Angies List. Based on reviews, and the promotion, figured the carpet would feel more plush and cushion-y but it was just standard carpet grade material. The installers came nearly an hour later than scheduled- they did keep me updated about their delays. When the installers showed up found out the estimator had not put any thought into how the much lower berber carpet from adjacent rooms would connect to it or informed me how this would be done. I was hoping they would put in a threshold but apparently not. Not being a carpet expert, you would think they would have done a much better job informing and communicating to their customers how everything would work IN ADVANCE of non English speaking installers showing up. No. The installers spoke little to no English so I was stuck on the phone with the estimator, Sam who quickly turned unprofessional and didn't offer any solution or try to work with me on one. Finally, after I insisted he make this situation right due to the height difference in the carpets between rooms and it not looking right told him I would be reporting this negative experience in my review, he begrudgingly offered a industrial metal threshold or to reschedule the install and put in the marble threshold I wanted which would then cost me another $100 to trim down the door to accomodate. All this was really stressful and his professionalism when it comes to advance communication during estimating and customer satisfaction stink. The carpet looks okay. I feel I got what I paid for- bad service and average carpet for less price. I would have paid more for better carpet and better service though. I would not use this company again and do not recommend it.

+ -1 moreHaving done 300 sq. ft. of hardwood flooring myself, I was comfortable with the estimate given to us by Unique Floor, even though it was about $500 higher than I expected. Apparently, the removal of the old carpet (or maybe it was the trim and transition work, and any taxes ... I forget) were not included in the "Deal" price. Still, it was less than I would have been charged for just the 300 sq. ft. I did 2 years earlier (had I opted for the big box store's installation service). And, it took me a lot longer to do than the one day it took them! A crew of 2 came out on the scheduled date, and after a brief look at the space, started to work. As indicated above, they did everything as expected, quickly and efficiently. All done in one day! They moved/removed the large pieces furniture (bed, trunk, and armoire) still left in the bedroom. The existing carpeting was ripped up and removed from the house and carted away. Then the new floor was laid out and nailed down, and all the trim pieces installed. The floor was vacuumed and then the furniture was put back into place. Their workmanship is excellent. They were punctual and courteous. It was great working with the Sam (the estimator/owner?) and the installation crew. We'd definitely use them again!
Description of Work: This project was done as part of an Angie's List Big Deal. The "Deal" was for 200 sq. ft. of hardwood flooring plus installation @ $999.00. Our actual square footage was 425 sq. ft. in two adjacent rooms. Unique Floor gave us an estimate for the additional square footage. Once we agreed to the bottom line, and selected the flooring color (matches the other hardwood in the house), the work was scheduled. On the scheduled date, Unique Floor removed the existing carpet, made sure the subfloor was sound and free of defects, laid down the paper underlayment, and installed the correct hardwood flooring (Bruce 3/4" solid oak, requiring nailing) in both the master bedroom and the walk-in closet. They installed the necessary transitions between the bedroom/bathroom, and the bedroom/hallway. In addition, they installed 3/4" quarter round oak to hide the gap between the existing baseboard and the new flooring. All work was completed in one day.

+ -1 moreWe contacted Unique Floor for a consultation/quote, and Sam was able to come out the same week. He arrived on-time, and immediately took measurements of the 2nd floor areas where the work was needed. He then explained the different types of carpet available, and made a recommendation based on our input. He also explained that Unique Floor only uses high quality carpet padding (8lb 7/16"). He also invited us to the Unique Floor showroom to check out additional carpet colors. The initial appointment took about 30 minutes. Within an hour after the appointment, we were emailed a quote from Sam's office. The price was within our budget, so we accepted the quote. We stopped by the show room the next week and picked out the color we wanted. Sam and his staff were very helpful, and Sam placed the order with the manufacturer while we were still at the showroom. The carpet took about 4 days to come in, so we scheduled the appointment a week out. The installers came on-time and quickly went to work. They moved all furniture around as needed, and worked straight through until the job was complete. They put all furniture back in its place before they left. The stairway carpet runner was not ready, so they did need to return a few days later to install it. Again, they were on-time and had it installed in under an hour. Overall we are very happy with the quality of the work and recommend Unique Floor to anyone else in the market for new carpet.

+ 0 moreOverall we liked this company and the workers. They were very punctual, and showed by no later than 8:30 am as per our request so we could go to work. They had first scheduled the vinyl team on Tuesday, and the carpet crew on Wednesday. I emailed them on Monday requesting if they could switch the order as painters the week before and cut the edges of all the carpet to paint the trim, and so nails were exposed. With two young kids and a dog, we wanted the carpet to be finished ASAP. They were able to make the switch for us. So Tuesday was the carpet crew. Nice set of workers. They did great work. Only had two minor mistakes that they returned to fix that evening. Wednesday was the vinyl crew. We had chosen the same sheet vinyl for the huge kitchen and master bathroom. A few days before the install we decided to have the powder room's floor done as well - with sheet vinyl we had leftover from a install we did a year ago. I removed the toilet, vanity, and old ceramic tiles from the bathroom in preparation. Our only disappointment was their labor only charge for just the powder room seemed a bit high. But the vinyl install was also done very nicely throughout the 3 rooms.
Description of Work: New berber carpet throughout the 3rd floor - three bedrooms. Also hallway/stairs down to main level, and stairs down to lower level. New vinyl flooring in kitchen, master bathroom, and powder room bathroom.

Description of Work: The person that took the carpet measurements was indeed a salesman. He really was professional. I had a selection of many carpet colors which was better then I thought when I purchased the big deal. The installation was on a Tuesday. I had to work that day, so I had someone wait with my Mother at our home for the installers. Their first job of that day ran overtime. Our appointment was move to the next morning. Not good, however, the wait was worth the time. This was really a "Big Deal". I think they run overtime on some jobs because of the good quality of their work, just perfect. The next day the installation move forward without a hitch. My mother and I really love the way the company completed the stairsways.

Description of Work: I would NOT recommend Unique Floor. After they rescheduled one appointment for an estimate and having to adjust my work schedule to accommodate them, they were a complete no show - not even the courtesy of a single phone call. I thought of calling them after the appointment time came and went, but I wanted to see how Unique Floor would address the situation. Silence is how they handled it. Not a word. Perhaps they are too busy with their "Angie's List Deals" - but members may want to think twice...if they can't even be professional enough to handle estimates, how are they on projects they do get? I am very supportive of small businesses, but after being passed off without a word, there are plenty of other contractors. Next!

+ -1 morethis is a great little company. We wanted bamboo flooring installed in our basement. We contacted a couple of companies for estimates. We received both estimates, and the Unique Floor estimate was the better deal. Then we had added a nuance to the basic pattern (added a different color border changed the amount of ceramic tile) and asked for a revised estimate. We quickly received the Unique Floor estimate and never received one from the other company. So we chose Unique Floor. We selected a date, but they showed up early. This worked out well because they were able to finish early. Their work was of high quality. They moved all our furniture around (including a piano) and took care to cover all the points where the furniture touched the floor with a protective piece of carpeting. After they finished we noticed some glue spots on the floor, They had someone pop right out and clean them up. All in all it was a good experience both in quality of materials, installation and service. I'd use them again.

+ -1 moreSee above - I love these guys and would recommend them to anyone and everyone. Integrity is their last name and their first priority. At my age (57) I have had a lot of various workers in my homes - none better than those that work with Sam at Unique Floor Sam, himself, is brilliant. He is patient and truly listens to what your needs are and makes great recommendations. I am a mortgage banker and have asked for several hundred of his cards to distribute to Realtors - that's how much confidence I have in him and his co-workers.
Description of Work: After having the parquet flooring in my finished basement ruined twice and replaced, I was looking for flooring that would not be destroyed by water. I called Sam, the owner of Unique Floor, and told him about the flooring that I had found online that was especially made for wet basements and asked if they would install it for me. He said he gladly would but asked if I would follow him online and read more about this particular type of flooring (that they don't carry and I would have to order) so that I could have a better understanding of just exactly what it was. In fact, he had installed it for another customer some 2-3 months prior and had no complaints. HOWEVER, it will not withstand water forever (I will refrain from naming the brand - it is guaranteed to last forever - made from re-cycled stuff - but it won't). After discussing my situation with Sam, I followed his advise and opted for porcelain floors with a wood grain (new - the latest and greatest). They are BEAUTIFUL. And they are adhered with a cement like substance which naturally settles the floor completely even. Don't even have to have my pool table leveled - the floor is completely level! I could have spent $5,000.00 for more wood that would eventually be ruined if my basement ever floods again, but Sam gave me the best advice and now I have floors that will NEVER be ruined by water, nor it's adhesive. We had a bit of trouble with the color of the grout but, even after having been paid in full, Sam insisted on making it right at his own expense and even insisted that it be done at my convenience (I trust these guys so much that I even gave them a key to my house because I could not be there and would do it again). Until you step on this floor, you would swear it is wood - again BEAUTIFUL!! And the thin grouting looks exactly like the thin line that you would have between slats with wood flooring. Can't say enough good things about these folks - they are master craftsmen - and even better - they take great pride in their work. They would never walk away from a job until the customer is completely satisfied. You just can't ask for more than that. GREAT JOB SAM!!

What I liked is after doing research I asked some questions about enhancements or products I wanted to make sure he included in his estimate. What I have had in the past is salesmen who offer one item and when the workers show up the price is different. However, I am glad to say Sam's price was inclusive of the best materials and no changes in price occurred. Luis was my installer and he and his co-worker asked me no less than 10 times as we went along if I was happy and if I liked it. As always, I buy my installers/workers lunch because I know they have limited time to work and no time to leave. They were so appreciative and I was glad to to do it. In short, my experience was excellent and I would be glad to use them again for carpet/hardwoods etc..
