Description of Work: I obtained an estimate from this company. I was impressed at what they noticed about my yard and the practicalities of the fence placement. I needed a fence up more quickly than their schedule allowed and their price was higher, so I ended up not using them this go 'round. But I would definitely consider working with them in the future.

We rented tractor and landscaping attachments from Sunbelt, I did the clearing, grading, spreading of 32 cubic yards of mixed topsoil and compost from Mary's Trucking. Coordinated with Minor's to start several weeks after seeding of the yard. Minor's Fencing was the only fence company out of five that quickly returned calls or had a person answer the first time. Two never even returned a phone call. One eventually provided an estimate that was a couple of hundred lower but it was like pulling hen's teeth to get a response or have anyone return a call. Minor's was chosen because of their professionalism and reliability in dealing with them. It was a pleasure. We just knew their work would match how they operated and we were not disappointed. Minor's estimator showed up 15 minutes early for our appointment, was knowledgeable and provided reasonable alternatives to design and construction which we appreciated. No pressure. Miss Utility came and did her thing. We paid the deposit required by Minor's in the contract and coordinated the start time. Our start time was flexible and Minor's provided an estimated start date. We later notified Minor's that the prep work was all done, Then, the first Minor's team showed up a week earlier than estimated and set over 20 fence post in 90 minutes and were gone with the yard cleaned, hose wound and neatly returned to its place. Then several days later the fence crew came after we left for work, installed the fence, cut the convex curves on top and were gone before we got home. The yard was hardly disturbed and all debris removed. If not for the fence, we would not have known they had been here. Satisfied customer.
Description of Work: We needed a 7 foot high privacy fence with 6 inch convex curve from post to post for 156' along one side of our property beside the wooded easement of a highway. We attempted to get five bids but one company returned a call we left on their answering machine to tell us that the owner would get back to me (they never did), two returned no calls, one was nearly completely non-responsive but did get a bid in. Minor was the only professional of the lot. Responsive, timely, courteous, professional. Try and get a bid for your own peace of mind but use Minor's if you don't want nightmares. We were responsible for getting any permits that might have been required, (because the height did not exceed the county limit - no permit was needed) , preparatory grading along the fence line and a survey of the actual property line. Because I have experience with tractors and landscaping we decided that we would rent equipment and do the preparatory work ourselves. Chesterfield County and the surveyor, Mike Bristow, of Harvey L Parks, Inc., were professional, courteous and a breeze to work with. Those costs are included in the amount we spent. Good job, done early, on budget and at agreed upon price. Use Minor!!

We got several bids and theirs was very competitive. They showed up on time for the quote, walked us through the process. When they did the construction they did a solid job. Set the post in concrete and allowed to cure a week then came back a week later and did the rest in a day. Really quality job and a good price. Would highly recommend.

I made the decision to choose Minor's Fencing based on the recommendations on Angie's List. The estimator came to our home and discussed with my wife and me the various types of fencing that we could choose. We settled on two styles, and ultimately choose the cheaper of the two. We had budgeted 10K for the fence, which was right in the middle of the two estimates, so our decision was made by economics, but in hindsight, it would have been the right decision no matter the cost. The fence is beautiful, and blends with the neighborhood and home-style better than the other option would have. Minor's Fence made 3 trips to our home, the first to set the perimeter, the second to set the posts, and then to hang the rails. The crews that came out for the actual installation were very professional, each crew member obviously knew their job very well. They were able to complete the job in 2 days (1 day for the posts, which they allowed to 'set' in the concrete for a few days before hanging the rails) I had a handyman friend of mine staying at the home doing some inside carpentry, who also has experience with fencing / decking. He was impressed with the quality of the workmanship, the fence runs are perfectly straight, including a 300'+ run that went through some wooded areas. The other thing to mention is the quality of the materials used. I could not have purchased the material at the local 'big box' stores, this fence is going to last 30 years or more. I would feel comfortable recommending Minor's Fence.
Description of Work: Minor's fencing came to my newly purchased home to fence in approximately .6 acres with a 5' 4-rail paddock style fence.

I cannot say enough positive things about Minors Fences. From start to finish the experience was absolutely painless. Their estimate was in line with the other estimates I received, but they offered a 2 yr warranty. That and the positive reports from Angie's List were the deciding factors. All employees with whom I interacted, including Mr. Minor, the owner, were professional, knowledgeable and pleasant. Sput came out to place the string lines, then a crew came out to dig the post holes. As was the case with my yard they had to hand dig all the post holes due to power and cable lines being in the way. Unbelievably, this was accomplished in one day. The posts had to set for a few days so today, 12/5/12, they showed up first thing and finished the rest of the project. This only took half a day. My yard was left in perfect shape and my fence is beautiful! Fabulous workmanship and I am picky. I would completely recommend Minors Fences to anyone looking for a fence contractor.

Good fencing is important to us since we have dogs. And recently an amazing 11 month old pup decided the old 3-1/2 to 4' fence was more fun to climb over than merely run alongside. Squirrel-chasing knows no bounds, apparently. Found Minor's Fence on Angie's List and on a recommendation from a friend. Minor's was remarkably responsive and quick despite still dealing with a lot of repairs from Hurricane Irene. The guy who performed the estimate was right on time - very nice, quick, and thoroughly answered several questions. He completed the estimate on the spot including options for parts that involved neighbors' fences. I made the appointment for construction a couple of days later. Their start date was about 3 weeks out, however they called back later to actually move it up a week. The first crew that arrived removed the existing fence in what seemed like 10 minutes. It was there, then it wasn't. It was probably more like 1/2 a day because of the concreted posts, but still - they were fast. They cleaned up well behind themselves. The construction crew came on a Friday morning. I was concerned that we'd be left without a completed fence over the weekend if they had to come back to finish on Monday. Dealing with cooped up dogs who are used to a doggie door is no fun. But - surprisingly - they were actually done before lunch. In the month and a half since they finished, I have had no problems with the fence. They really knew what they were doing, and they did it very well. It's solid and everyone has complimented us on it (like I did it or something). I mentioned my experience to a friend of mine last week. He said he had used Minor's 10 years ago to do his fence. 3 weeks ago, he had a problem with a latch on one of the gates. One of Minor's guys stopped by to fix the latch.... at no charge. I would never expect such a thing after 10 years and it might not be typical, but I think it is telling of the company.

It went well from estimate to finish. The first contact person who discussed the project with me was very knowledgeable about the products available and the process. He focused on the project and listened to what I needed. We came up with a design and a price and I signed off on it that same day. The crew that came to set the posts as well as the boarding crew were courteous, informed, and obviously skilled at their work. They were fast, but thorough. Many neighbors and people passing by have stopped to comment on the fence and see who did it. I am pleased and have no complaints. I definitely recommend this company.
Description of Work: Minor's Fencing just completed a beautiful, 6' open picket fence for me. I live on a city corner lot and while I need privacy I did not want to feel boxed in. They worked with me to find a solution that I liked giving me lots of room to make design decisions. I included a window in the gate door and supplied an antique metal piece for them to frame into the window. They were happy to do so and it looks wonderful.

The fence consultant, Bill Winters, arrived on time and walked the yard, sketching and measuring the dimensions as he went. They offered at least three different types of pickets and I chose the "Gothic" which is a pointed picket with softly rounded edges. It was hard to wait until the day came for the installation. A few days before, Scut installed a string line with little posts to outline the fence footprint. All the teams arrived on time when the actual day came. We had an existing vinyl picket fence in the front yard which had been installed several years ago for a TV commercial. It was done without permanency in mind and looked pretty ratty. Minor's removed it and carted it away. They then installed all the 4" and 6" posts (approximately 50) so they are sturdy as can be. After a few days to let the quickcrete cure, Another team came out and installed all the horizontal boards which would secure the pickets. Then the next day the picket people came and installed all the pickets and constructed the gates including the one they built to replace our existing gate. Every team was professional, polite, hard-working and had amazing attention to detail. The fence isn't quite completed because we are going to have it stained with solid white stain to go better with the look of our house which is typical Northside brick/slate cape cod. I am an obsessive perfectionist andI think the fence is absolutely perfect. It is sturdy and beautiful and looks like it will last 100 years. I remember during the installation seeing one worker, Stuart, as he was constructing one of the gates. He looked at every picket critically and discarded those that weren't up to his standard. I think that's a good indication of this company's commitment to quality. If you ride around Richmond looking at fences, the ones that have a "Minor's" plaque on them will be the ones that look the best. I can't recommend them highly enough.
Description of Work: Minor's Fences built and installed a picket fence around our corner lot and constructed a "pull-in" off the alley in back of the house so if we ever decide to sell (not likely) we can advertise "off-street parking" which is an advantage in the city where most people have to park on the street. The fence has exposed 4" posts to break up the long run of pickets. They routinely use 6" posts at the gates for strength. We have four gates. They also constructed and replaced an existing gate that was rotted out. This gate is in a section of the house which provides a divider between the front and back yards with a rounded area over the gate so they matched the height of the pickets so the round shape was preserved. I had particular plans for the fence posts, including two Williamsburg style birdhouses, a copper planter that fits a 4" post, a copper cupola plus cannonballs at each start, stop and corner and larger cannonballs on either side of the gates. All the other posts have simple routed toppers. Bill Winters agreed that they would install them when the fence was finished. I ordered them on the web and everything came as ordered except the 4" fence post toppers. Although I ordered them without holes when they arrived they all had holes drilled in the middle to accommodate a finial. It took several weeks for the correct ones to arrive and the fence had been finished for about a week. When I notified them that the correct toppers had arrived, a team came out the next morning to install them.

Installation went as promised. On time, efficienty, and professionally completed. One problem -- after a couple of months the gate needed some adjustment to latch properly. This was still covered under their warranty period. However, it did take a couple of phone calls and an email over a month's time to get the adjustment. It is completed now and we are overall satisfied. We would consider Minor Fence again

I have a Border Collie who is a Houdini at getting out of the fence. They even measured my dog's paw so that they could put the pickets close enough that my dog can't get a paw hold to get over the fence. I have a very uneven terrain but they built the fence on-site so that they could match it perfectly to all the terrain. Not to mention, it looks beautiful. The only complaint is that the foreman was very verbally abusive to the guys doing the actual work - calling them "stupid" and "dumb-a**" and a few other rather colorful insults.
Description of Work: Minor's built a fence for my 1/2 acre lot in March. We chose a 6' privacy fence on one side and 6' picket the rest of the way around, all in treated wood. We also had two gates put in and they put 3 hinges on each gate instead of the 2 hinges that were offered by a competitor. Those gates are not going to sag for the next 20 years or so.

All of the quotes I got from the different companies were all really close to each other. Minor said it would take four days to replace my fence but the people that live on either side of me and I have dogs and that would be too much time without a closed-in fence. The next two companies I heard from said they could do it in two days so I asked why and they told me that Minor’s has two different crews to do the job and they need a couple of days between them. They told me the time was for something to set but I would have rather they just tell me that that’s how they schedule things and been up front about it. I felt like they were trying to deceive me. I ended up with a smaller firm that charged about 10% less than Minor’s. I feel like they are a large firm that does a lot of residential business and everything about them was fine.

Minor's Fences would like to respond to your post. Our estimator gives an honest answer as to how long the process takes to install your fence. We do have two crews for our wood fences. One sets the posts and the other crew does the finish work. The time between the two crews allows the posts to be firmly set in the concrete. This is our normal procedure for all wood fences. This process works very well for our company and has for many years. We are sorry that you felt you were being deceived.

We received an estimate well in advance of the installation date, as we had not closed on the house yet. The estimator, Bill Winters, was polite and professional. He gave me the opportunity to choose a style and went over different options with me. The actual work began during the requested week. They began by installing the posts in concrete. A week later they added the wire, rails and gates. Work was completed on time, and the quality and workmanship were exceptional.
Description of Work: We had a large back yard fenced in, as well as a stretch at the bottom of our property that faces a neighbor's pond. Wooden fence: 3 rail pressure treated wood fence, farm fencing against wooded areas, 2 double wide picket gates, 3 single picket gates.
