Response from MINOR'S FENCES
This letter is Minor's Fences response to the complaints you have posted on Angie's List. 1. Before the gate was built the operation of the gate and reasons were discussed with you by Stuart ( Forman of the finish crew). When you wife arrived home the gate wasn't satisfactory with her. She notified the office. We made a special trip to the residence completely rebuilt the gate longer. This was done at no charge to the customer and a cost of at least 2 hour's time and and labor to Minor's Fences. The grade of the yard determines which way the gate will swing, not the installer. If there is a big grade change a 2 x 4 is added at the bottom between the posts for aesthetic reasons and closes the gap under the gate. The only quality latch for a wood privacy fence is a maxima deluxe latch which is installed one way for gates that swing in and the opposite way for gates that swing out. Once again if there are grade issues this is out of our control. 2. Here is the process for a new fence being built with an existing fence being torn out and hauled away. When an existing chain link fence is torn down you must first remove the wire and roll it up. The posts are then pulled out of the ground and usually have a ball of concrete around the bottom of them. These are taken to the trailer to haul away. The new holes are dug, bags of concrete are carried to each post hole, the posts are set and the excess dirt is cleaned up. The finish crew comes next boards the fence, cuts the tops and cleans up. Common sense tells you with all this going on contractors do not hover on top of the ground we walk on the ground and it is not always easy to miss every plant. It's possible the damage was done due to the last minute change in the fence location. I do know that my crews take every precaution not to damage our customers plantings or property. 3. Sprinkler heads are frequently marked on the jobs, some belong to the neighbor, some belong to our customers (sprinkler companies do not as a rule locate property line). All these flags do is tell us where the sprinkler head is, not where the pipes are under the ground So we dig very carefully by hand not using a power auger to avoid cutting sprinkler pipes. Which is a huge time and cost factor to us. After the posts were set May 6th or May 7th till completed on May 10th more than a reasonable amount of time for someone to notice their sprinkler head was not in their yard and expected Minor's Fences employee's to notice that the sprinkler was their's and not in their yard. Sprinkler heads are moved after a fence installation on a regular basis. Bit it is not Minor's Fences responsibility to do so. 4 The issue of the plants and sprinkler were not brought up at the time of final payment. As far as Minor's Fences was concerned you were happy. You were called the day after completion of your fence and left a message in reference to the balance and if you were happy. On two different occasions June 12 and prior tp tjat your wife spoke to people in the office and never mentioned any concerns. You also never mentioned that your received an additional 5' of fence on the rear of your property that was not billed for. Or the last minute change made because we were originally told by you that the fence could encroach on your neighbor's property and the day we went to install the posts found out the fence had to be moved completely onto your property. Which entailed a trip to the shop for the concrete saw to cut through the patio, and setting the posts in the patio, and time needed by the crew for the changes made to the fence line, for this you were only charged and additional 150.00. Which was very reasonable and did not cover any of the travel time for the additional tools needed. I am very sorry that you are an unhappy customer. I do not feel like Minor's Fences has done anything wrong or deviated from the contract that was signed other the changes you asked for and charged a fee less than it should have been. Sincerely, M.L. Hairfield President/Owner
