+ -1 moreI had a huge tree fall across my driveway from a neighbor's property totally blocking my ability to get my car down the driveway. I was leaving the next day for San Diego for an important client meeting and I could not leave it where it was while I was gone. I called the Heart of Wood and the owner came to my home within the hour to look at the tree and provide an estimate. Once I approved he had his team at my home an hour later. They quickly and efficiently cut the tree up all the way to the stump which was on my neighbors property, hauled all the debris away, and blow off all the remaining bits and pieces. My entire property looked better than it did before the tree came down. I highly recommend The Heart of Wood team!

+ -1 moreWe actually purchased an deal from them. We had them come out and give us a quote for the work we wanted done. It wasn't terribly unreasonable. I had people who could do it for less. They wanted to put foam in the trees, which I didn't want them to do. They were insisting it was needed. None of the tree people I talked to thought that was beneficial. I decided to not use them. I had some other yard clean up work done by a guy who also have some tree people. They worked out to be a lot cheaper, than someone who is a certified Arborist. I didn't have them do any work, so I can't judge them on quality. They were pretty responsive with coming out. I didn't particularly agree with them foaming for trees, and charging for that. I wanted to make it clear that I did not have any services performed.

+ -1 moreWork well done. Very thorough. For the amount of money I paid, I feel like I over paid. I wish I would have gotten two quotes. The description in the quote seemed like a lot of work. The group of four showed up and was done relatively quickly. Part of me thinks I should have negotiated a little harder.

+ -1 moreThey were good, I would give them ?A?s? across the board. It was difficult getting him out here, because it took like 6 weeks to get out here. He was extremely busy and then weather came into effect and he couldn?t do it one day. Finally he made it out here, worked out okay, but difficult with him to deliver the services. He got out here very quickly, evaluated it, but actually getting the work done. It took a while to response to my calls and it took him a while to get out here. Once he went to work, what was done was very professional and he knew what he was doing.

+ -1 moreThey were just terrific! They came and I pointed out the work I wanted to have done, mostly trimming out a lot of deadwood from some very large trees. They inspected the entire property and noted some other items that could use trimming because limbs were actually resting on the roof. Some work I thought needed to be done they pointed out that it really was not necessary. So a great service – pointed out work that needed to be done but did not oversell on work that did not need to be done. And when the time came for them to do the trimming, they called in advance and gave me notice, and did the job beautifully with absolutely perfect clean up. Absolutely the company to use for reasonably priced, high-quality work.
Description of Work: I took advantage of an Angie's list deal and had $550 worth of tree service for $350.

Also notable that Thomas was willing to work with us and itemized the quote so we could prioritize, which resulted in a reasonable cost for us. Great work.

+ -1 moreThe estimator provided a prompt written estimate that was very detailed and gave me additional details over the phone when I had questions. It took a while to get the work scheduled because they were very busy due to the Angie's List promotion, but I can't hold that against them. The crew arrived on time and worked efficiently to trim several trees around my house. They did everything as promised and cleaned up the yard very well. The price was very fair, even before the discount, so I would definitely use them again.

+ -1 moreAfter a major storm the branches of a tree in my front yard snapped and were hanging over the pedestrian walkway and my driveway, which could fall anytime. It was a dangerous situation and Thomas came out right away to give me an estimate for the limb removal and trimming. He noted that he tries to be expeditious in situations like this. He gave me a quote that was consistent with the other ones I got and also offered to do the work the same day. That was the reason why I went with the Heart of Wood. However, in the afternoon Thomas called and said his technician is too exhausted (it was the day after a big storm) so he won't be able to perform the work on the same day. They did come early (at around 8:30/9am) the morning after and did a great job removing the branches and also cleaning up the debris.
Description of Work: Remove broken tree limbs after a storm and trim the hanging branches.

Did not try to influence us one way or the other. He called and said they had a cancellation and asked if we'd like them to come earlier than expected. The work was the best we've ever had done on our trees. The clean up after was immaculate. We'll use Heart of Wood from now on!

+ -1 moreWe took advantage of a recent offer and were very pleased when Thomas called earlier than anticipated to do the planned work. The four crew worked very meticulously and efficiently to remove all the suckers, dead and cross branches in the trees, leaving them looking clean, healthy, and naturally manicured. They will return to grind out the stump at a future date. Very pleased with the results and the cleanup. Though a note my husband made; he thought they would reduce the height of two trees that were reaching into the utility lines. They did strategically cut branches around the lines without reducing the height.
Description of Work: We had five trees in our front yard that were very overgrown, making it impossible for grass to grow. We also needed one overgrown holly tree to be topped and shaped and another to be removed.

My front yard looks much better/presentable after the trimming; big difference. Crew was professional, showed up on time, and they cleaned up all of the debris. I'd say that the price paid was well worth the work and end-result.

+ -1 moreThe special was supposedly $199 for $400 worth of work. So when the representative came to give an estimate, I asked him to break out the work. Here is what he provided: the Japanese style evergreen $275, the two small maples $325, and the dogwood $175. Obviously doing only the evergreen meant I would have wasted/lost $125 of the purported $400 worth of work. Then if I added the maples, the total estimate came to $600. So then I would pay another $200 on top of the $199 special and end up paying $400 anyway. Not a special at all and nothing being done to the dogwood. The person who came was very nice and pleasant but he is not certified as an arborist. When I did get an arborist, that person immediately found bag-worms and mites on the evergreen so the tree needed treatment. I requested and received a refund and did not use this company. And so it went. I never understood the pricing either. So all in all, even just to do tree trimming I found 'The Heart of Wood' expensive. He did say he has years of experience though.
Description of Work: I was looking to have someone evaluate a very beautiful type of evergreen that was not thriving as it once had and needed pruning. I also had two small trees in the back which needed very minor pruning and one Dogwood that similarly just needed some dead branch removal.

+ -1 moreEverything was done very professionally in every way from the start - from the quote, phone communication, etc. I was unavailable when the workers came but by then felt comfortable letting them do the job and was really pleased with the end result. My mature trees were treated properly - all cuts were done to prevent damage to the tree and on first glance undetectable except for a much more open feeling to the normally dark back yard. Everything was cleared away (included in the quote) down to the last twig, as if they were never there. I will definitely use THoW for future work even without the coupon deal and already recommended them to my colleagues and will share with my HOA board as soon as possible.
Description of Work: Original deal purchase was prompted by a dozen large branches from an huge oak tree. After an on-site visit for an estimate on what I expected done and a 'while I think of this' mention of a few things to be done at some point in the future I received a thorough and a surprisingly reasonable estimate. Aside from the reasonable estimate (others in the past made me push work out into the future) I really liked that I had several overlapping options to let me consider best way to combine work done this time to maximize more bang for the buck. In the end, I chose to have my original scope in the front plus remove a huge mature off-shoot branch on another tree in the back (more like a 1/3 of the mature maple's trunk which split decades ago and grew into three separate sections all the way up a mature tree and loomed over my house) and have a lot of smaller branches trimmed for more light on another tree. The option I did not pick was to just trim smaller branches for light on both trees in the back. There was no hard sell, initially I had no intention of doing more than the initial scope but actually knew from others' quotes that the dangerous off-shoot of the trunk should have been removed years ago. By spending what turned out to be just a bit more money this time I could stop worrying about the possible disaster with each heavy snow fall.
