Majestic Moving and Storage

Ovando was very pleasant and reassuring about how the move would be handled. His estimated loading and unloading times were very accurate. He gave us a 10% discount for being Angie's List members and an additional 10% discount because we could let him pick the day to move. On the day of the move, the crew of 3 arrived over an hour late. They were hardworking and packed everything well. One of the workers did have an annoying habit of leaning unwrapped furniture up against walls often leaving marks on walls. We had two dings that required patching and painting. Then we departed for PA. What should have been a 90 minute trip took nearly 4 hours. The truck overheated 3 times, leaving us sitting along the roadside while it cooled. Turned out that Ovando had failed to have routine maintenance done, and the truck was extremely low on oil. I had to drive the crew chief around Baltimore in rush hour looking for motor oil. We didn't ask for much set up in PA, we just wanted the move over with!

Ovando's wife, Kaneka came out to the house to give me an estimate the day after I initially contacted them. She was lovely, although she grossly underestimated the amount of work it would take to pack and move from my downtown rowhouse to a storage unit in Silver Spring. She estimated two men and 4 1/2 hours. What actually happened is five men showed up and it took 8 hours. The men who showed up were great. They were courteous and friendly, and they laughed the entire time they were working, which was nice. They did a great job of fitting my belongings into a storage place that was just the right size without any room to spare. It was like watching 3-D tetris. The estimate, which was a firm price, clearly did not cover the work, but Ovando stuck to it since it was the price quoted. We paid the men a substantial tip for the great service and to cover the anticipated shortfall in wages based on the low price. I appreciate the firm price and didn't mind paying the men more.

Tamika and Ovando were very helpful in setting up the move on the date we needed and giving us a very competitive quote (even a discount for finding them on Angie's List!). They stuck to the quote and the movers were very careful with our belongings and nice. The one complaint is that they arrived approximately 2 hours late to the job. The most disappointing thing is that we had to call three times to find out what was going on. In DC, we understand that people get stuck in traffic and can't help but be late. However, we would've appreciated that Majestic Movers took it upon themselves to call us and tell us the status rather than us having to call them for information.

This company was the only company to give me a "not-to-exceed" estimate. Additionally, their labor costs were less than the other companies. Their team of 4 did a good job and worked very hard on a 95 degree day, which included carrying the furniture and boxes up my steep driveway at the new house, as the truck could not back up the drive without scraping. After delivery, there were only a couple of dings in the walls, which could have been caused by the previous moving company. Additionally, they were able to complete the job quicker than they planned (partly due to my disassembling of the majority of the furniture) and only charged me for the time spent moving my stuff and materials used. I would definitely use them again.

No work was performed. I contacted them and made the first available appointment. On the date of the scheduled move, no movers came. I couldn't reach anyone by phone, and none of my voice mails or pager calls were returned. I finally reached the owner a few hours later, and he apologized profusely, acknowledging that he delegated the job to someone else and that person dropped the ball. The owner sounded sincere, and I actually felt a bit sorry for him, but I had taken a day off work and now had to find a company to move my precious belongings the same day. With the help of an Angie's List representative, miraculously I found a competitor and was thoroughly pleased. I'll submit a separate report for that.

They were not friendly at all. I had called the owner of the company who came out to give me the estimate initially, and asked if we could make to donation center to drop off some cloths and furniture and what the care would be. He stated there would be no charge for that because it was on the way. After I received the bill, they did charge me. They also broke a lamp and they said they were going to send me a check for $25.00 for the broken lamp which I still have not received.

Company showed up with a smaller truck and one less worker than was expected. As a result they did not finish the work in one day and had to come back the following morning to finish the work. They also left behind a big cabinet in the basement that I had to move myself. Beyond this, the company was prompt, and the men worked hard.

Ovando gave me an in-person written estimate, which was $750 including a discount for Angie's List members. However, the day of the move did not go smoothly. Only 2 guys showed up initially, about a half-hour late; I had been expecting at least 3 movers. They wrapped furniture and loaded things onto the freight elevator to bring down to the truck. Since there were only 2 of them, my stuff was often left unwatched on the open elevator. Eventually, 3 more guys showed up, but then the first 2 guys left. It somehow took over 4 hours just to move me out of the apartment. By then, it was too late for me to move into the condo building. My stuff ended up locked on a moving truck for 3.5 days until they could move me into the condo building. Fortunately, the unloading went much smoother and faster, and Ovando gave me a $300 discount, which I thought was fair and redeemed the experience for me. The movers were professional and courteous, and most things arrived in one piece.

The week of our move a friend used a different company and had a terrible experience. This made us nervous about our move. Shortly before the movers were scheduled to arrive they called to say they were running about 45 minutes late. Again, we got nervous. But exactly 45 mins later they showed up and started working. We were supposed to have 3 guys for our job but only 2 arrived. They apologized for being late and explained that they had waited for their colleague but he never came. The move took a bit longer with 2 guys but Majestic kept their word on the "not to exceed" quote and we didn't pay a penny more. Our movers were great. We chatted all day as we moved, they encouraged us to relax and they helped with the packing of a few odds and ends I was struggling with. We haven't unpacked all of our stuff yet but so far so good. I had a bit of a delay getting the initial estimate appointment scheduled but it was minor and I m glad I didn t let it keep me from using Majestic.

Ovando arrived exactly at the scheduled time for the estimate. He was extremely helpful and cooperative when it came to scheduling (and then rescheduling) the job. The 2 young men who actually did the moving arrived exactly on time, and were extremely professional. They took exceptional care with the jukebox and the areas of the house that they had to move it through. We asked how much it would cost to add a small bookcase to the load, and they took it at no extra cost. We're anticipating a cross-country move of our entire household in about 2 years, and we're seriously considering trying to convince Ovando and Majestic moving to do the job!

They were great. Patrick and his team showed up on time and didn't waste any time. We had to wait a little while for the loading dock to clear and it didn't phase them at all. They took better care of my furniture than if I had moved the things myself. Every piece of furniture was wrapped in blankets or plastic to protect it. They took real pride in doing a good job. Once we got to the new place, the unload was really quick with no issues. I would definitely hire them again.

The movers were quick and careful, completing the move an hour earlier than they had scheduled and not breaking a thing.

The crew was pleasant and courteous, respectful of our things and easy to communicate with. They were experienced at wrapping and packing, but they twice under estimated the number of boxes and amount of packing material needed, even though Ovando had been around for a detailed estimate. The result was something of a bargain for us, since by calculating hours and materials, the job actually cost more than the estimate. But Ovando had guaranteed that the cost would not exceed $2800 (including Angie's List "discount,") and they stuck to that pledge without any problem. (The other estimate we got was also for around $2800, so we believe it was a fair price.) They were not as well organized as they might have been, but the one item inadvertently broken was immediately shown to us, and everything else arrived in very good shape. The customer-friendliness of the packing and moving crew was the big plus with Majestic.

Ovando was very quick in giving us a very reasonable estimate and we were able to schedule the move for the exact day that we wanted to. The moving crew was on time, very courteous and helpful and extremely efficient. They were able to complete the move in less time than anticipated on the estimate, with only one very minor scratch to the wood floor in the new house. The final cost was even less than the estimate. It was a great experience and we only wish we would have planned to have them move more of the boxes!

The movers were polite, efficient, careful and very helpful - we even had to move the owners washer/dryer and refrigerator back into the house, and they did that, too. With so much to move, I didn't agonize over where things were unloaded, but they marked the boxes fairly well. We had 2 packers the first day, and 7 the second day. No damage was done, and we had a lot of crystal, china and two large screen televisions. I provided lunch both days (from international experience, I think this is a wise investment), plus some beer at the end for them to take home (they worked quite hard!). We also provided a $20 tip per man ($40 to the two who came both days) - again, I think a wise investment. This was the first move I had to pay for out of pocket, and I was very impressed and thought the price quite fair given the size of the move. The owner comes to do an initial survey and he was very professional and efficient.

Majestic was under the original estimate and they were there when they said they would be at each of the appointments. They were able to follow the instructions on sorting the items between the 2 moves. We were very impressed with the moves and there was not one item broken or damaged. They stayed to help make sure all of the furniture was in the place wanted and had no problems moving it around. All of the Majestic Employees were total gentleman and took pride in there work. The best.

Excellent, courteous and accommodating service. We called on Tuesday, May 29, and requested the sofa be picked up by Saturday. It was picked up the following day at the mall, returned to the Washington area, and put in storage until the following Saturday, June 2, to suit our convenience when we would be home. The sofa arrived in fine shape, and was carried into our house by Ovando and his associate. The sofa had already been wrapped at the store, but Ovando's service also would have included wrapping the sofa at the store if we had needed to have it wrapped. We think the price was reasonable and the service flawless.

Ovando responded to calls promptly and came to our house for an estimate. We arranged for packing of the entire house and moving services. They were, overall, very trustworthy and careful with our property. The day of packing, however, the packer was about 90 minutes behind the arrival estimate. While Ovando [the owner] was on site, the 2 movers moved quite quickly. When he left, it got a lot slower. They were courteous and eager to please, even moving my donation items to the porch for a pickup by a non-profit. The packing didn't go as well, however, with Ovando skipping some kitchen drawers, and the movers forgetting an entire kitchen drawer unit, so we had to go back and do another pickup. I'd hire them again, just bearing in mind that they are a bit slow. Most movers I've dealt with have been late, so that may be an industry-wide complaint.

They showed up a little late, but worked efficiently once they got started. Nothing was broken, and they took the time to work with us on placing the furniture where we wanted it.

I got estimates from three different companies and this one was by far the lowest. In addition, the movers were all extremely pleasant and very helpful. They did a great job including packing lots of crystal and china which all made it through the move in perfect condition. We also had a very tight time-frame since we sold our apartment and closed on our townhouse on the same day. The movers literally had to pack the truck in the morning and be out by the time the first closing was finished and then wait a little bit while we closed on the townhouse and then move us in. With such a tight time-frame, I expected something to go wrong, but there was absolutely no problem with the movers. The cost ended up being exactly the same as the estimate, even though the move ended up using more materials and taking longer (a couple of hours) and using more movers (four instead of the estimated three) than the estimate indicated. Even our realtor said they were the best movers he had seen.

I solicited about 6 quotes from top rated Angie' list movers. Naturally, prices varied considerably I must say, just about all the guys seemed honest and sincere. I chose Majestic because Ovando was straight with me, we are both African-American, and he gave the best quote. Also, he did what no other mover would do: give a "not to exceed" quote. Gotta love that! Ovando quoted 1 truck, 4 men at 6 hours. His team arrived on time, and to my surprise, there was 1 truck, 1 van and 6 men (not 4). Interestingly, it still took 6 hours. The guys were polite and professional. Nothing was broken or damaged. My walls in my new place got a few scratches on them though. They did break down and reassemble my beds. Overall I am quite pleased. 6 guys was a bit crazy unloading. With 6 guys, I was constantly asked where this and that goes. I am not complaining; but it was hard to process and keep up. Finally, $170 was not the lowest hourly rate I got. But, Ovando quoted the fewest hours.

The move went very well. Ovando sent 6 movers instead of the 4 to make sure the move was done in time. They took care to pack everything well and to place it into the correct room at the new house. It's a rare moment that you wonder if a company charged you enough money, because not only was the service great, the price was also great.

Great. Ovando was prompt and asked detailed questions when he came to assess the project. On the day of the move his crew of four were efficient and helpful, courteous and effective. I was a bit of a laggard as I had not finished disassembling some pieces, but they were quite patient. The entire move took two hours, door-to-door (DC to Virginia).

The move overall went VERY WELL, in fact this company was the best movers we have used among the two previous movers we had used in the past. We were VERY PLEASED with their three men's prompt timely arrival, their pleasantness, their quick, careful and steady pace of moving the items. They packed the truck so well, it was amazing how every item was fit into the truck. The drive to the new house was great, and they unpacked everything quickly into the places they were assigned to. We recommend this company to anyone who needs a very reliable and prompt moving company. The price was excellent for the amount of work the three men did!

Excellent work. It was my first experience, using an Angie's list reference and Majestic did not disappoint. They were on time, worked hard and didn't complain once, about the number of stairs at the new house. There are at least 25. The guys were professional and friendly. Nothing was broken in the move. A+ for service! This was a positive move experience, something rarely heard.
