The team showed up promptly at the appointment time and efficiently executed their audit. Caleb and his team mate were very polite and communicated very well during the visit. We contracted for the full energy audit which will provide recommendations and pricing options which the company can do in house. Looking forward to continued work with Home Energy Medics!

To be fully transparent, I am a former employee of Home Energy Medics. That being said, I chose to do work with HEM as a customer after my time as an employee ended. I had my attic and a rear facing cantilever air sealed and then insulated. I am very happy with the results. The installation team was both professional and thorough. They cleaned my house each day before they left. The temperature throughout my 3 story townhouse is noticeably more consistent. In addition, my heat pump doesn't spend as much time on throughout the year.

The work went very well. The energy assessment took nearly a day, the assesser-Michael, took time to show us all the areas where we were having energy leakage in the house. He let us know the things we could do on our own and provided various plans and price estimates for the other items. Home Energy medics were very accommodating with us to find a plan that we could afford and provided the best impact for us. They did multiple small things around the house-and applied blow insulation to an add-on room that was always uncomfortable (too hot or too cold depending on the season). The team was timely and did an excellent job. The program manager, Scott, came by several times to make sure everything was getting done the way we wanted. The team also did a great job of cleaning up after they left-one friend who stopped by thought the work hadn't begun! The team was also fast-they took down two ceilings of the add on room, got blow insulation up and returned the ceiling in a few days. We noticed a difference in the comfort of our room immediately. Great job Home Energy Medics!

I am very pleased with the results. The owner was very involved with the project and ensured all details were taken care of and that any concerns I had were immediately addressed. My family immediately notice the difference in the climate, comfort and even quietness of our house. It also improved the effectiveness of our hvac system. We could actually tell it was on and doing the job it was intended. A huge improvement to our house and as important a renovation job as any other homeowners might consider.

We had a great experience with Home Energy Medics - it was easy to schedule an audit and we were able to get on their calendar fairly quickly. They perform audits even on the weekends, which was great for us, since it can be a several-hours long process and we wanted to be able to ask questions. Mike S. was our auditor & he was great. On the day of the audit, he came on time and was very thorough in showing and explaining everything he was finding to us. It was easy to get in touch with him afterwards with follow-up questions and we got the audit report within a week or so (maybe a little longer because our audit happened before a holiday week). Once we had the report, Mike set up a follow-up meeting at our house and walked us through the report and the recommended improvements, explaining both the science of home energy and the practical elements. We felt like he and the company did an honest audit and the action plan was broken into different chunks so that we could either do all the improvements or pick and choose among the chunks. The report also flagged a number of improvements that we could do fairly easily on our own (and we're not handy!), which was nice. The best part, as far as we're concerned, is that the company will continue to work with us during the process of making the improvements, so we don't have to deal with managing a bunch of different contractors and subcontractors. We're very happy and looking forward to having a more pleasant, more energy efficient home once all of the improvements are made.

Scott went above & beyond anything that could be reasonably expected... FIVE YEARS AFTER the original install, he came out to inspect because I told him the seal was broken. It was actually rodent damage -- which was NOT warrantied. Even so he fixed it with NO CHARGE for any labor, only materials, and that's despite crawling around under the house for hours on his hands & knees."

It's like having a completely new house. I've struggled with a 20 degree temperature differential between the upper and lower floors, with some rooms being mysteriously bitterly cold and others sweltering even with tweaks to the thermostat, opening and closing registers. I'd had insulation installed last year in my crawl space but it didn't improve the cold floors and other issues I experienced, so I thought it was time to have an energy professional perform a full inspection. Brad from Home Energy Medics performed the inspection, including my crawl space, and came up with a plan that addressed the issues in a clear and concise manner and split out my cost options by priority. I was able to use the data to corroborate the experiences I'd had with the house. I decided to go whole hog so to speak, insulating the crawl space walls, my addition ceiling, replacing lights as well as the attic. I was able to get an HVAC reference of the company, Dave Snyder of R&B, to come by and look into the issues both before the work began and with the ceilings open, to determine if there were HVAC issues that were part of the problem and he was able to confirm there were. I was able to calibrate my own expectations based on his findings (the ducts narrow to half size on the ground floor and there are leaks in the system confirmed by HME testing) which would remain after the work was complete. Unfortunately due to the space constraint under my addition there wasn't enough room to do the insulation there and its probably the work would be cost prohibitive; I'll revisit that at a later date. As I said, it's like having a new house. The upstairs is controlled by a thermostat downstairs so it ended up being either too cold or too warm and particularly one room is now comfortable having been cold during the winter and too hot in summer. Scott Donaldson was very responsive, emailing me updates without having to be asked and providing me updates on the process. We did have a few miscommunications prior to work beginning but they were easily resolved. Overall I'm extremely happy with the outcome.

We were impressed by their expertise and by someone's personal recommendation, enough to go ahead with the job even though it was a lot of money. They did very professional work, responding promptly to any issues that arose and adjusting the plan to meet our concerns. Retesting showed a reduction in the air turnover in our house from 7 times an hour to under 5 times an hour, which we hope will be reflected in noticeably lower electricity bills in the future. No guarantees, we know, but it feels good to know that we have taken a big step to reduce our carbon footprint.

We needed to fix seasonal cold spots in the home, and to replace inadequate and unhealthy blown-in fiberglass attic insulation. To source the causes of the cold disparities, Scott (the owner of Home Energy Medics) performed a whole house energy audit which took 4-5 hours and involved a top-to-bottom visual inspection, thermal imaging and a blower door test that complies with national testing standards. He gave us a solid understanding of what he was finding as he went along. He also documented the inspection with photos and detailed notes as well as the thermal images and blower test out results. As a result, Scott not only uncovered the multiple reasons for the cold areas in the house, which included the problem attic insulation, he also found other issues, such as bathroom ceiling fans that were never vented to the outside—or to anywhere except directly into the open attic. This audit was followed by a very detailed, written proposal of work to address all of the areas of concern that he reviewed with us in a follow up meeting. I'm both curious and persnickety and had lots of questions which he went above and beyond to answer thoroughly and to my satisfaction. This audit is a standalone service with no obligation to use HEM for any recommended work, however the audit fee is subtracted from the cost if the work is undertaken by the company. Since we checked out their references and reviews ahead of time, and liked how the audit was handled, we were confident that using HEM to do the work was the way to go. Everything proceeded in the timeframe promised. Because we were having a number of different jobs done, there were several crews involved, each handling different components. Everyone was cordial, polite, hard working, careful, thorough, professional and tidy. There were only two small glitches (aren’t there always!); one was due to unavoidable weather delays and both were resolved quickly. The company took great care to stay on top of things, to keep on schedule, and to communicate with us in a timely fashion. Work was documented and photographed while underway. Finally, when everything was finished, a final test out was performed with measurable improvements documented along with final photographs. These were used 1. For a package submitted to a county rebate program that will put $575 back into our pockets, and 2. For a national certification program that has proven to add market value to a home when it is sold. In the meantime, our utility bill is substantially lower than it was in previous years, the cold spots are gone, the air quality in the home is healthier and cleaner, and we couldn’t be happier. Would we do it again? You bet. It’s a great, service-oriented company to work with and they know their stuff.

I can not tell you how it went because they cashed the check almost 3 weeks ago but never told me the results(I have emailed multiple times requesting the results, and I get "we are working on it"). Being my home is only electric I contacted them in November to have the work done before winter(highest usage). They pushed me off multiple times to where work was not started until February, meanwhile we had the coldest January on record. They audited my home twice and both times missed my small attic space above my living room and upcharged me to continue work. Oh and they charge for the energy audit, and the fine print says if someone else does the work they suggest they can pursue legal recourse, I should have walked away then. I never write reviews but I felt like I had to when I chose them for all their good reviews. How I do everything is get 3 quotes and pick the one I'm most comfortable with. But when they charge $445.50 to just quote the work, I just agreed when I shouldn't have. Do you pay someone to look at your car, or do fix it? Quotes should be free! Honestly if they can save me enough with their work I wouldn't be so upset but I can't tell you the results because they refuse to tell me! I bet I get my results really quickly once they see my review.

Hi Sir, We value your feedback and are never satisfied if our service is less than superb. We were disappointed to get this kind of review, and we wanted to help you with some corrections to what you may recall or misinterpreted. We did not get a signed contract from you until 1/18/18 which was the height of a cold spell. We were extremely busy at the time, and we did not put you off. You were told it was going to be longer than normal before we could get to you. We did everything in our power to get your retrofit work done as quick as we could. We are not sure where the confusion is, but we did only did one energy audit on your home, and did not audit it a second time. The auditor did identify the small attic space during the energy audit, but neglected to add it to the workscope. We did the extra work below our cost which was actually a benefit to you in the long run :). We have nothing in our contract which precludes you from using someone else to do the retrofit work after the audit is complete. The audit and the retrofit work are totally separate. The $445.50 we charged you was not for an estimate but rather for a comprehensive energy audit of your home which was approximately 6 hours long and resulted in a detailed report of results with specific recommendations to address your concerns and desires. The auditor spent additional time with you reviewing the report and the action plan to address the recommendations. We stated at the time you inquired that your results from the retrofit work were outstanding. We did such a good job, that it requires some supplemental ventilation to maintain healthy air standards in the home which we installed. We also stated at the time of your inquiry that the final report was held up pending outcomes of some complicated cantilever sealing that was completed on 3/13/18. We have had a staffing shortage that has since been corrected, and we have been clearing the backlog of documentation this past week and your report has since been sent. We apologize for the delay. Our goal is to continue improving our service and ensure this type of issue does not happen again.

Scott, the owner, came out for the initial assessment and identified a number of things that could be done to improve the comfort level of the basement, as well as some suggestions for other areas of the house. Most of the suggestions involved installing spray foam insulation, but he also provided several pointers about inexpensive improvements I could make on my own. After he sent an estimate for the various items he recommended and my wife and I chose what we wanted to do within our budget, Scott sent a crew out to seal up our crawlspace and make it a conditioned crawlspace, and also installed spray foam on all of the exterior basement walls, which has already solved a number of the problems we had before. There were a few minor issues with the initial job. The crew didn't seal up the ducting in the crawlspace and also didn't tape over the electrical outlets in the basement so several were ruined. Scott made sure someone came out to fix the problems and finish up the job within a couple of days. The crew is clearly experienced, and Scott is extremely responsive to questions and to fix issues. Some bumps in the road are to be expected, but Home Energy Medics handled them all very professionally. I hope to hire them again to do some of the other projects Scott suggested down the road.

We initially brought Home Energy Medics in just to do an audit, as we had a "3 season" room in our home. We expected that a design issue was the only culprit for the issues we had in the room, but discovered through the very thorough study done by Mike of our home that we had significant issues causing far more heat/energy loss than we originally thought. Based on the detailed report we elected to follow through on many of the recommendations presented by HEM after the study and engaged them for the work. There were three major activities that they conducted as part of the recommended work. The first was sealing a large crawl space that had - over time - lost significant chunks of the insulation that had existed. Indeed, there was nothing but flooring between us and the natural cold air in many places. The second was repairing and adding to the insulation in our attic. The third was replacement of a bathroom fan that had no outside ventilation and replacement of a collection of can lights that were poorly sealed. While the logistics of arranging parking for the trucks in front of our house in DC was a challenge (necessary for the blowing in of insulation) - Scott's team worked with us through the challenges. The work they did in all three areas - crawlspace, attic, and fan/light replacement was thorough and had an immediate impact. The team were professional throughout the process, and took good care of every area of our home they needed to work in or go through. The work was done quickly and with every attempt made to minimize the stress on our side. Following the work, Scott did a couple of follow-ups to ensure our complete satisfaction, and it was great to be treated like our project was the most important project to them throughout. While we haven't yet seen our first energy bills post-project, the fact that we can comfortably go into a room that used to be an icebox is testament to the fact that the work has had an impact!

I like the responsiveness of the company and that they offer a plan to resolve the issues they find. The person who did the energy audit informed me right away before conducting any test that the cost for solving problems in my type of house runs to 15 - 20K, obviously there was sticker shock. However his company can break down the projects and prioritize which ones make sense, which made me feel better. The audit went good, the person was very polite and informed me as he went what the results were, and the audit gave me a lot of information I didn't know as well as confirming what I suspected. The problems came from the plan to solve the issues. The costs were substantial to the point, so I asked to tackle what I felt was the biggest issue now and figure out the rest. That was rejected because the company has a minimum, which I understand. I asked what the minimum was, at least I could figure out a budget, maybe bundle a few of the jobs to reach that minimum or tackle as much as I could get done for my budget which ever made sense. The response I got was the job I had requested done, would be double the initial quote, that wasn't worth it to me, and to find another company. I still didn't get an answer to what the minimum was. Honestly I was a little taken aback, insulation companies are obviously going to be busy during cold months and probably had a lot of work going on. And I guess this was their response to tell me go away. I hadn't even started negotiating, just trying to establish a budget and prioritization list. So now I've had to go and find another company, this time I'm just going to work with an insulation company. Really disappointed in the response and just leaving me hanging.

Generally we found them to be prompt, communicative and professional. Our project manager was very new with the company, and he seemed to struggle a little bit at points with the details of our job, but he was friendly, accommodating and customer focused. We were able to work well together to iron out the many minor issues that arise in construction work. They seemed to manage their crews well, and the people they brought in were all competent, polite, clean and respectful of our household. The best part about this company is that after the improvements are made, they repeat some of their original testing to insure that they have made the improvements they were targeting. Using the blower door, HEM was able to quantify that while better, our crawl space encapsulation was not quite where they wanted it to be. HEM came back twice to add more sealant to the crawl space until the infiltration was where they wanted it to be. The second time the owner himself spent a long time crawling through the very low crawl space with a spray foam canister and applying foam until the blower door readings were to his satisfaction. He was down there so long I sent my husband after him to make sure he was ok! The other great thing about this company is that as a customer, you get the sense that they really care about delivering a lot of value. There were a few minor items in the job that they could have argued they needed to charge me for, but they just took care of it. We appreciated their willingness to work with us over these smaller issues.
Description of Work: After our energy audit with HEM, we hired them to act as a contractor to address the biggest issues identified in the audit. While we originally were looking for a solution to our moldy crawlspace with failing insulation, we ended up hiring them not only to do the crawl space, but to seal various parts of our envelope to help lower air infiltration, provide some transfer grills in our doors to help improve our HVAC performance, replace one bathroom fan and add another, and add insulation in addition to weather sealing in our attic.

We appreciate their excellent work on the audit, which revealed some pretty significant problems with efficiency and airflow in the house, and for their repair work. They did a good job of categorizing the potential solutions both by importance and price, so we were able to pick and choose those that worked best for us. It was challenging at times getting ahold of them - we had to escalate communication up the staff ladder to make sure we were getting responses. That said, it meant a lot that Scott (the owner of the company) made sure this happened and came out himself to finish up a last piece of work. We appreciate their help and would hire them again.

The process from the beginning was very smooth. I reached out to Home Energy Medics via Angie's List and very quickly had a response back. I could tell right away that they cared about their work and really appreciated the level of detail that was provided. I also like their approach where they address the whole house 'as a system' as opposed to others who might just attack the symptoms. On the day of the audit, Mike arrived and spent the better part of 7-8 hours reviewing our house for safety concerns, air flow and overall leakiness. He was very approachable and was willing to show me (at any point in time) what he was working on and even pointed the relevant trouble spots. He scheduled a follow-up prior to leaving to review the report with his findings. The report was very detailed and contained pictures of the safety items, air flow and sources of air leakage. He sent this over prior to an in-person meeting that was scheduled with him and the owner of the company. The review of the report was helpful and they presented an action plan of items (in priority order) that they would remedy and would likely result in 15% savings in our monthly bills. The in-person meeting was helpful, but over the phone would likely be equal beneficial (however they really want to encourage homeowners to move fwd on the work / answer any questions you might have, which is why they come to you). My wife and I will definitely work with them when we decide what aspects of the work we'll move forward with. Highly recommend Home Energy Medics and particularly Mike our auditor.

There are not too many companies like Home Energy Medic. From the very first phone call with Vicki, I felt like she actually cared about my problems - she was always quick to respond, explained in detail what exactly was included in their services, and assured me they'd get to the bottom of it. Later, after Bradley showed up at my door, his knowledge about the distinct failures in my envelope impressed me - he really knows his stuff. He didn't mind performing acrobatics with me when inspecting the attic, took detailed pictures of where insulation was missing, and above all, genuinely wanted to help me get my unit to where it needs to be. He even found several areas of concern that a prior infrared inspection did not turn up. Although the service was only supposed to last 3-4 hours, Bradley didn't mind spending 8 hours with me - and didn't charge me a single penny more than what was originally agreed to. I would highly recommend Home Energy Medics for all your envelope needs, and especially Vicki and Bradley. It's not often you find a company that sincerely cares about helping you with your space, not to mention the price point is well worth the money. I give them an A++!
Description of Work: Having recently purchased a newly constructed condo, I thought what I was buying was turn key - not so. Over time, I became aware of ridiculously high humidity levels (80-90%) which suggested envelope failure. Although I already knew some of the issues contributing to the issue, I really needed someone to come out and inspect the unit for all the things I couldn't see / didn't know about.

Excellent. Mike the auditor was professional, thorough, and knowledgeable, very eager to explain how things work or what he was doing, and had an obvious passion for the job. Nice guy and very easy to work with. The audit itself took 7+ hours but it was no hassle having him working in the house at all, as we could choose our level of involvement in the process and hop in with questions whenever they popped up. Vicki the office manager was likewise easy to deal with, very flexible with accommodating changes to the original appointment. Overall a very pleasant experience so far.
