I had a very very serious noise problem from living next to a major roadway with a high volume of traffic and a metro stop. Scott and his team installed really thick windows that cut the traffic and subway noises. This allows me to sleep very peacefully. I am extremely happy with this noise reduction. I am glad that I found Home Energy Medics.

In 2020, Home Energy Medics performed a significant amount of work at my residence to improve energy efficiency and address air-quality issues. After a review of the house, they provided a detailed audit report (that clearly showed the many issues to be addressed) and an action plan. Air sealing between the attic and upper floor dealt with leaks in such places as recessed lighting, tops of interior and exterior walls, and utility penetrations. Insulation was added to raise the old estimated R-10 rating to R-49-60. Baffles improved ventilation and moisture conditions in the attic. They replaced all HVAC duct branches in the attic, most of which were leaking due to damage and age. They also installed a whole-house ventilation fan to improve air quality. Finally, they installed new bathroom heaters and fans to improve moisture control, and carbon monoxide monitors to address potential air-quality concerns. The staff doing the work showed a high level of professionalism and attention to detail that left me confident that the work was done exceptionally well. They also suggested additional issues that could be addressed to improve energy efficiency more, and I hope to deal with these in the near future. The residents of the house have noted a great improvement in air quality in the house since the work was done, measured by fewer respiratory problems and a general increase in overall comfort. Home Energy Medics did an exceptional job on this project, particularly having to deal with several significant complications: • They had to work around a mold-remediation effort by another contractor that had several scheduling problems and imposed several delays on their work. They handled this with patience and grace. • The entire project was done at the height of the Covid pandemic, with all of the associated concerns about masking and contact. • All of the extensive mold-remediation work in the attic significantly damaged the upper-floor ceiling, pushing the drywall down and causing many cracks and holes. They did an excellent job repairing the damage and returning the ceiling to the original condition by re-screwing almost the entire upper-floor ceiling; patching cracks and holes and replacing drywall as needed; and priming and painting everything. • They identified poor workmanship by an earlier contractor who left bathroom ductwork venting into the attic space. They were able to replace this ductwork and install proper ventilation to the outside. • The house has a hipped roof, which causes its own complications in the way of access and installation. • Finally, they came up with a way to install an elevated catwalk from the access hatch to the attic to the center of the attic to enable access to a roof fan and other equipment in the attic space. This catwalk was very useful a year later during installation of solar panels. I strongly recommend Home Energy Medics for this type of work.

We did not have a good experience with Home Energy Medics for our major house energy efficiency upgrade project. Our challenges started with our energy audit and initial proposal, which (once we had agreed in principle to proceed) was completely rewritten by the owner, after finding that many elements of the initial audit had either misdiagnosed the issues with the house, or understated/overstated the cost of mitigation and the potential cost savings from the upgrades. After we had a revised proposal, we felt very pressured to sign immediately so that all scheduled crews could get the project done immediately. While the work went smoothly once started, we had a number of issues with permits for work not being pulled on time (or at all), and the speed of the work and lack of documentation led to us not being able to pursue any DC incentives under the net zero home program. We didn't get the expected energy savings. Foreman on-site was personable, but owners' bullying style in both the contracting process and getting the work done was not appreciated by me or my wife.

We initially called Home Energy Medics (HEM) to replace old and inadequate insulation in the attic of our 60-yr old home. We knew our home was drafty, and the three floors felt like three different climates. We assumed all we needed was new insulation. However, we were intrigued by HEM's home energy audit because of the age of our home. We started with a comprehensive energy audit performed by Luke to assess all areas where energy leaks might be causing an uncomfortable environment inside our home--not just the attic insulation, as we initially thought. Luke was courteous, professional and thorough in explaining the process of an energy audit and answering our questions. After the audit we met again with Luke and the owner Scott who went through, in even greater detail, potential areas of improvement. Scott was very accommodating in offering customized alternatives to address our concerns. HEM initially offered three options (good, better, best) to improve energy efficiency. Then, Scott worked with us to craft a solution that fit our needs, desires and budget. He patiently educated us on how to prioritize the home improvements that would best address our desire to improve the climate inside our home. HEM replaced and installed foam insulation in the attic, basement and a bay window; added a return to the HVAC; performed duct cleaning and aeroseal duct treatment; and installed a new range hood. During the actual work, Scott visited frequently to communicate with his subcontractors and personally ensured all jobs were done per our agreement and to our satisfaction. Our home now is more uniformly comfortable across all three levels of the house. It's also quieter thanks to the insulation. HEM's energy improvements resulted in a Silver Pearl Certification of our home. Scott is honest, direct and passionate about his work. He was great to work with.

I had Home Energy Medics help me with an ongoing condensation issue on my duct work. To say I was pleased is really an understatement. From start to finish they were extremely professional, knowledgeable (I asked lots and lots of questions) and helpful. The crew was exceptional, meticulous with their work and timely everyday They arrived when they said they would and worked non-stop throughout the day. I am not someone who normally gives reviews, good or bad, but I just couldn’t let their work go unnoticed. The supervisor came by after the job was done to ensure everything they did was to my satisfaction and I couldn’t be happier.

They were prompt, responsive, and very helpful. They walked me through their process, explained what they found, and provided useful options for remediation.

The initial onsite energy audit went very well. It was both thorough and efficiently conducted speaking to the professionalism of the company. Our Energy Auditor, Brian, brought several items of potential concern to our immediate attention as the audit progressed. We are looking forward to reviewing the full results and will be using the information to plan some long needed comfort and energy efficiency improvements.

Luke was extremely professional and easy to work with. I am a shift worker and had just come off of a night shift. Luke was kind and understanding to the extreme. He worked quietly and efficiently all while answering any questions I had before and during his time in our home. He patiently explained his work and showed me things about my home that I would have never known. Additionally, Luke bonded with our dog to the point that when he left our lovely greyhound was upset that her new friend was gone. Home Energy Medics has dramatically improved the energy efficiency in our two houses. Ten years ago, HEM redid the insulation in our crawl space and attic, cutting our heating and cooling bills in half. Most recently, they upgraded the insulation and ventilation in our new townhouse and again, did a great job!

If the polar vortex is coming into your home, I recommend Home Energy Medics to conduct an energy audit to pinpoint where you are loosing heat. Using high tech machinery, the Home Energy Medics identifies where heat is escaping from your home and proposes solutions. I’ve used Home Energy Medics twice in the last five years and have been extremely happy with the results. In January 2021, they put insulation in my exterior walls where none had existed in my 100-year old building. The able crew completed additional tasks on my “to do” list (among them adding closet doors in my bedroom) and repainted all the walls in the two rooms in which they had worked. I recommend High Energy Medics highly to make your home more energy efficient (read lower energy bills). The outfit is extremely knowledgeable and the workers are considerate and Covid 19-aware. I recommend them highly.

The quality of the repair was very good. When done, everything looked as good as new. Scott was always responsive and clear in communicating next steps etc. The team was punctual and always cleaned up before they left. The found the source of the mold and repaired, which had been an issue for us for a long time. The cost was on the higher end, but you get what you pay for and the end result was of a high quality. We would use them again and would recommend to others.

Luke was extremely thorough in his inspection and pointed out several areas of our house where we are losing hot air that I would not have thought of before. He was diligent about testing every part of our house and also did a good job explaining what he was finding along the way.

I noticed a substantial pool of water leaking through the ceiling of my kitchen. I emailed Home Energy Medics and they got back to me within a few days. Luke came out to do the inspection and give us a entire home energy audit and Action Plan to address a number of issues both related to the specific problem we were having but also a number of other issues that would improve the home in general. I know a lot more about my home now which is well worth the cost of the audit. Scott was the project manager. He and his team came out and found warm moist air coming in from outside the home and into the voids in the walls and condensing around the cold supply and return ducting leading to and from our second floor and running down to the ceiling in the kitchen. The only way to address the issue was to open up the walls in two rooms upstairs and the ceiling in the kitchen and use spray foam to insulate the entire stack. It took a couple of days of work but afterward the drywall looked better than it did before the work. Scott worked really well with our insurance company and provided them pictures and details of the work. This was particularly helpful, as the insurance company didn’t even need to come inspect personally and we received the claim money within a few weeks. We had no more issues with the ducts since and the HVAC system is more efficient. Overall I have no complaints. Great work. I will definitely use them again.

The crew used all sorts of scientific machines to evaluate where I was loosing heat from my 2-bedroom condo. Afterwards they gave me recommendations. We decided that putting insulation above my roof and below the building roof, with special attention to areas where warm air was escaping would work. Five years later the insulation is fine but the exterior walls of other parts of my condo make my house very cold in the winter. I have called Home Energy Mechanics to remedy the situation with insulation in the wall.

Luke performed a full home energy audit. He was terrific: friendly, outgoing. energetic, accommodating knowledgeable, and honest. He followed HEM's very good COVID-19 safety protocols. He always wore his mask, cleaned and disinfected surfaces he touched, and was conscious of keeping distance where appropriate. We have two small children in our house (one under 3 months) so this was very important to us. He was understanding of the chaos that comes with having 2 small children and a dog. For example he never once hinted at frustration when we made him wait outside while we got our act in order. He explained why things we'd heard from other contractors (e.g., HVAC or brick pointing) weren't necessarily accurate or relevant for our airflow and leakage. We not yet seen the final report (he only did the audit today); our review meeting is scheduled for next week. I have no reason to think it won't be comprehensive and informative.

Chris and Scott were very thorough and knowledgeable. They took their time explain the results of the audit and answered any questions or concerns I had. When working through the proposal of work, they were mindful of my budget.

We are very pleased with the energy audit that Home Energy Medics performed on our townhouse. We explained the humidity issues we have in our house to the tech, Luke, and he quickly went to work looking for the cause and explaining what he was finding along the way. Luke spent several house going through the entire house and when the audit was completed he gave us his preliminary review and scheduled a follow-up zoom call to discuss his formal findings. It was very professional and yet friendly and we wonder why we didn't call Home Energy Medics earlier.

I hired Home Energy Medics in May 2020 to provide a sound proofing solution for the ceiling of my master bedroom in my recently-purchased 2002 condo. After I moved in, unfortunately I realized that due to a lack of insulation between units, I could hear my neighbors above me in their master bedroom so distinctly that it was almost as if they were in my bedroom with me. Due to this situation, and as a light sleeper to begin with, I was unable to sleep soundly due to the acoustic noise (talking, TV) and impact noise (footsteps/clacking shoes on a hardwood floor, with wood joists and minimal insulation between my neighbor's sub floor and my ceiling). As mentioned by Ms. Lapp, based on my research, there are not many companies that provide comprehensive, professional soundproofing services to individual homeowners in the DMV area. Given the structural & technical elements of this work, in my view it is important to get the job done right. Home Energy Medics did the job very professionally and swiftly, though it is important to note that it was extremely expensive ($$$). Scott the owner is an excellent communicator, very smart, and enthusiastic about his work. The crew was very clean, kind and respectful. Now that the job is over, and I am waiting for the green glue to cure over the next 30-60 days, the acoustic noise is completely gone from my bedroom. I can still hear footsteps, though they are much less distinct, and I am able to sleep with a fan on. The footsteps now sound reassuringly "normal", as in, how I've heard them in other apartments and condos. My neighbors no longer sound as if they are in my bedroom. Hopefully the noise will continue to diminish as the green glue reaches its full potential. Thanks to Home Energy Medics for their work.

So far so good. They identified a number of efficiency issues that they will be correcting soon, and will air seal the attic and replace insulation once mold remediation is performed by another company.

Overall a positive experience with this company. Our home was pretty cold in basement and first floor and we hired Home Energy Medics to perform an energy audit and to do insulation work. The employee who did the energy audit was very professional and courteous, and provided us with options and a cost breakdown. Once we selected what we wanted to do, the project manager - who also is the owner of the company - went above and beyond to address the insulation issues in our home. He kept us informed with daily status updates, and was very responsive. Though pricey, we felt the work done with Home Energy Medics was well worth it and I would hire them again for any future projects. The owner was very pleasant to work with and their customer service was excellent.

The analysis was thorough and complete. Scott D. reviewed our drawings and contract and answered all of our questions. We discussed at length the pros and cons of our choices. The entire review lasted 3 hours. When we concluded I felt the cost was well worth it.
