They were very professional, but what bother me was the fact that the person that showed up was not a painter, but a consultant who would not be doing the work. She missed somethings like the ceiling in the cedar closets and doors. In the proposal it read will not paint the closets. Of course not they are cedar and we discussed that, but she nor I realized that these closets have ceilings and they should be painted. I wonder if that would be an extra charge?
Description of Work: Blue Door was the only company that required me to pay for what they called EPA Practice Guidelines for house built in 1978 or before. As a long time homeowner were told about lead paint when the home was purchased. We have painted in the house at least twice and I'm sure the previousl homeowner had done the same. I thought that price was not necessary $125.00 for them to give me reading materials, special methods, paperwork, prep, setup, practices disposable materials, etc. (a bunch of nothings) on lead paint which I received at closing.

I contacted Blue Door for an estimate. A month later (today) they called and left a message stating that "they would be at my house tomorrow to do exterior work and that I need not be there". I have no agreement with them, no contract, nothing! They were never hired. Who leaves a message saying they are going to work on your house with no confirmation from the customer? Don't get caught up with these people.

It took several days before we received a call to make an appointment. The estimator was very thorough in his assessment, and explained what they would do, how, and with what materials. I felt confident that they would do an excellent job. However, the price was much higher than most of our other estimates, so we didn't hire them.

I submitted four Requests for Proposals via email/company websites to four different painting companies for an estimate for our single-family house exterior painting/washing/carpentry work. A representative from Blue Door contacted me within 30 minutes, and made an appointment immediately to come out and see the house and estimate the work. (A month later, I'm still waiting for the fourth one to contact me.) He was extremely prompt (lateness is a huge deal-breaker for me), courteous, and responsive to the information I put on my RFP. The company has relatively extensive weekend office hours (another big plus) with someone always available to answer their phone. Their proposal was detailed and accurate, and sent electronically when he said he would send it. The final bill ended up being slightly higher than the estimate - additional carpentry work was found to be needed after the house was pressure-washed - but they nicely offered to split the (small) difference with me without being asked. The painting/pressure washing/carpentry crew was courteous, punctual and professional. They did a great job and completed the work in just a few days. In every instance, this company did what they said they would do, when they would do it, and the end result was excellent. Would recommend them highly.

Communication with Blue Door Painters has been excellent, they went above and beyond with follow up before and after the work was done to the house. The employees in the office are very cordial and make dealing with them a breeze. The painters and job foremen were professional and went over the job in detail with me prior to starting work. They were very efficient getting the entire job done in one day. The pricing was very fair and less expensive than other quotes I received from several different contractors. I would recommend Blue Door Painters and plan to use them in the future. Thanks!

Blue Door painted the entire exterior of the house -- asbestos shingles, masonry columns and foundation, and wood and metal trim. There was a considerable amount of rotten wood on eaves, porch floors, front steps that needed to be replaced. The estimate, given nearly a year before we signed contract, did not anticipate as much rot as was apparent at time of estimate, so the price went up, but it was still very reasonable, considering the amount of work that needed to be done and the degree of difficulty. Carlos and his team were fast, efficient, hard-working, neat, persistent, polite and amenable to suggestions (e.g., what color(s) to paint the downspout crossing two different color zones of the job). The team worked Wednesday through Sunday, inclusive, all full days The house had not been painted in some 20 or 25 years, so there was a lot of scraping and power-washing that needed to be done. All this was performed thoroughly and expeditiously. When I checked in on the job on the second day and saw that the color I had selected for the trim was too dark, the team quickly readjusted, bought new paint, and painted it over with no complaint. The charge went up some $75 dollars because I had changed my mind about the the paint already purchased and it had to be replaced -- again, very fair. I now have three gallons of rather oddly purple-gray paint if anyone wants it at a generous discount. I am so satisfied with the job that I am geting Blue Door give me a price on some interior work. I would hire Blue Door again in a heartbeat -- their estimate was one of the lowest of about 7 I got, and the whole company exudes an air of professionalism and competence.
Description of Work: Blue Door painted the entire exterior of my mother's house, including wood trim. A lot of rotten wood had to be replaced and a short side fence had to be basically rebuilt before paining.

Bottom line up front: They did a wonderful job with the paint, their crew was professional and curteous, but working with their scheduler was very frustrating. In all, we would recommend them but with the caveat that you may have problems with their scheduling. The estimate was thorough and timely. The written estimate was received and confirmed. We paid part down. The called us twice to set up the paint appt for a Friday and Saturday. Only after accepting our down payment did they tell us that we had a small job that would take only two days. They also told us that an adult would need to be present the first day to talk with the supervisor to discuss color and details regrding expectations. My husband and I took a week off work and notified them with three weeks to plan the job,We said we preferred that the painting be completed at the beginning of the week that we took off to have the house painted. They agreed that they would try, but never called us back. We called them on Thursday before the work was supposed to start and they then told us that they had another, more pressing job, that they needed to start on that Monday and reiterated their desire to perform the "Small Job" on Friday and Saturday. We told them we had guests coming on Saturday and that we took a week off work and notified them three weeks in advance to make it easier for them to schedule the work. They blamed the weather for their inability to paint during the week. Tuesday through Friday the weather was beautiful. Having litttle choice at that point, we agreed to let them start on Friday. Saturday, 4 hours before our guests were scheduled to arrive, we walked the perimeter with the supervisor to point out any concerns. 3 hours before our guests arrived the final walk through was performed. The paint job is outstanding, the crew was professional and punctual. But, the scheduling was very frustrating because we were told several times that we had a small job, and were made to feel that they were slipping it into their schedule where ever it was convenient for them because it was not as important as most of their other jobs. We were having the entire exterior of our house painted and it was nearly $5,000. If the job was too small to be important to them, they should not have bid it, or at least told us, up front, that we would be at the bottom of their priority list. They set the price, we paid the price and took time off of work to allow for scheduling. They finished before the first guest arrive but it was frustrating! All in all, the house looks great!!
Description of Work: Blue Door Painter's cleaned and painted the exterior of our house (one story in the front and 1 and1/2 stories in the back, plus carport). They painted all areas that had been previously painted including the doors and carport.

After initially contacting Blue Door Painters in the morning I received a call from Jeff Stein inquiring about our needs. Later that same day he visited our home and took a look at what needed to be done. Within 48 hours I received an estimate via email which I considered very reasonable. I responded to Jeff that I would like to have him do the work and was told that they couldn't give me an exact day but that they would get me on the schedule asap. That proved to be sooner than I anticipated which was great. Anna called within a week and asked if they could begin work the next day. The workers showed up promptly the next morning and immediately began working. Initially there were three workers but at some point a couple more showed up. The workers were polite, hard working, cleaned up upon completion and most importantly did an outstanding job painting. My wife and I are completely satisfied and our deck and side porch look better than ever. In addition to the efforts of the workers, Anna from Blue Door Painters office was in touch throughout the process and couldn't have been nicer or more professional. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone having deck work done.
Description of Work: Blue Door Painters pressure washed our deck and walkway, located in our back and side yard. After pressure washing the surfaces they scraped away the old paint and began painting. They painted the entire deck and side porch( including main floors, stairs, bannisters, upright supports, rails, lattice work).

Second time using Blue Door Painters, this time for exterior services ... pressure washing a deck and front stairs and restaining/sealing deck and repainting front stairs and porch in preparation for sale of home. Very punctual, easy to deal with, and the paint looks great. We had a miscommunication with the work crew as to exactly which steps were to be painted but when I pointed out the omission they came back the same day and finished the job perfectly. Would definitely use them again.

I recently contracted Blue Door Painters (BDP) to paint the windows and doors of a home that I was purchasing. My financing inspection required repainting the windows before financing approval (FHA loans technically prohibit peeling paint – thorough inspector). Credit given where credit is due: BDP started within several days and hit the pain points for the inspector. I owe BDP this – which is the singular reason why I have been so very patient since then. Today, work is not complete more than 2 months after the target completion date, including work never attempted, and work done is poor quality and very obviously not representative of a professional painter. Extensive details on quality and interaction are below. All photos are “finished product” as of 5/25) – they say it all. ************************* The windows and doors on the home I was buying were peeling in some areas with cracked, missing, and/or haphazardly repaired glazing. I contacted BDP in mid-March to paint with a short turnaround so that the financing inspector could approve the financing agreement. BDP estimated completion in “a few days,” but promised to make the inspection coming in 7 days. We contracted on 3/12 and BDP sent a team to the site that week. The inspector cleared the financing, and BDP emailed saying that the job was complete and requesting a date to come by for “touch-ups.” I visited the house and was immediately concerned – there was a widespread lack of surface preparation and hasty painting. A particularly attentive neighbor told me that there were 2-3 painters over the 2 days the home was being painted. Drop cloths were not used outside - painters hung out the windows and painted while sitting on the window sill. I expressed my concern to the BDP’s owner – explaining the work remaining was beyond the “touch-ups” he was envisioning – including: 3 coats of paint were not applied – all windows were incomplete Cracked/defective glazing was not removed during the painting process, glazing remained sloppy, missing, and/or visible from the inside of the home Windows that were completely missing glazing were painted anyway – some even had silicone caulk between the glass and the mullions in lieu of glazing. 2 of the 3 basement windows were not painted Wooden storm windows were only painted on the outside of the home – the surface facing the interior was still cracked, peeling, etc. Window glass had paint on it, was not scraped It was immediately obvious that the number of painters and the time spent in the home was inadequate to prep/paint 21 doors/windows. I did the math… 2-3 men for 2 days is 50 labor hours max – to paint 40 interior and exterior window and door surfaces as stated in the contracct (scrape, sand, putty, and reglaze (as needed), then primer and 2 coats of finish paint). That’s less than 75 minutes spent per surface to prep and apply 3 coats of paint per 12-paned window. I’m also now wondering why I paid a special lead paint fee when these guys are painting using no special tools or methods (just scraping the paint into the window sill and vacuuming). The owner asked for a written list of items so his guy could come from “9-10am” that Saturday for touch-ups. I told this is not a “list”, and these are not “touch-ups”. I asked him to explain how 2-3 people completed this work (description of the time spent) and an explanation for what practices were included in the $850 “EPA required” fee for handling lead paint – then I would send a written list of what I was not satisfied with on the house. I confirmed this 2 times during the call, and a third time as we wrapped up because sensed the owners hesitation. I received no response. Saturday morning I was there at 8:55am, waited almost 15 minutes, painter was late, I left. I followed-up on Monday, requesting everything in writing going forward. I stated that the contracted was not fulfilled, and sent a written list of unsatisfactory items, including (but not limited to) the windows that were not painted at all, and the sloppy and incomplete glazing and painting on the remaining windows. I repeated the request for a time breakdown and lead paint fee description. The owner’s response was “we will not release that information to you because of proprietary concerns about remaining competitive.” No response on the lead paint fee. He then transposed the list of items that I was not satisfied with into a punch list and asked for a date to return. Through an exchange of emails, we agreed on the crew returning starting Tuesday (4/5) to complete the job. A single painter came on Tuesday morning and I walked him through the list. We are two weeks past the completion date and 4 days from moving in - I wanted the painting done. My basement was full of tools and boxes so I asked the painter to skip the basement windows (2 of 3 were still unpainted), and focus on the first and second floor windows. I reiterated that my major concern was window panes that are peeling, have no glazing, new glazing already peeling off, and windows where past glazing attempts obstructed visibility from the inside. I marked each of these windows with a post-it note in front of the painter before leaving for work. After a “full day of work” on Wednesday there was no discernable difference. I walked through window by window with the painter trying to find what was changed. Frustrated, I marked the INDIVIDUAL PANES that required work with a post it note, and even took 5 minutes to fix one pane - glazing and scraping the glass to demonstrate how it is done. The painter did not have a glazing knife with him to perform glazing – he was using his fingers and a spatula. Note: As customers, we should not have to explain to a painter what proper glazing looks like or how to do it; we should not have to list what is unfinished pane by pane. This is their core competency and we should expect better from a professional painter. After another “full day of painting” on Thursday, with no changes, I expressed my concerns to the owner. I’m moving in 2 days, and the work is not done. I cant imagine what the painter was doing while at my house – he admitted to running an errand, but insisted he spent the days there. I requested that the owner perform a walk through on 4/12 in order to collect his check (the only way I could get him there). He agreed that it was not quality, but did not take any notes on what needed to be done. He promised to complete the job if I gave him the remaining balance of $3k – I told him the check was the only thing keeping him coming back. He replied that he would complete the job out of “good old fashioned pride”. I compromised by giving half the balance – with the requirement that he walk a new painter through the house with me and show him what “right looks like.” I did not hear from BDP for 2 weeks. The owner called in late April and told me that he had fired the last painter and would be sending his best painter that weekend. I reminded him that I expected him to walk the painter through with me – if we had to wait to make sure the owner was there – I was willing. He agreed and we settled on Saturday morning (4/30). Friday afternoon, he left a message on my phone telling me he could not make it but the painter was still coming. I left a message reminding him of our agreement and the reason for it, and told him that if he could not make it Saturday then we need to reschedule. No response for 16 days - then he emailed accusing me of cancelling attempts to finish the job (the 4/30 meeting that he backed out of), and demanding another list of specific areas of work to be completed (this would have been the 3rd). The whole job is unfinished and he knows it. I really expected his next outreach to be a request to reschedule our walkthrough, not an accusation and another demand. At this point, It’s been two months, I’ve given every chance possible. I informed the owner that I was not confident that BDP is able and/or willing to complete this job. It was now clear that he was positioning himself to get out of this job as easily as possible to get paid, rather than commit to doing the job correctly. I proposed parting ways with work done and money paid and finding another painter. Response: “If you'd like to use other painters that's fine with us, in fact you can paint your home as many times as you'd like because it's yours now, but there is a balance of $1475 still left that we expect to get paid.” I told him that I’d provided the list multiple times and walked him and his painters through the house multiple times. Response: “The way we see it, you can give us the list of where we didn't finish glazing and location of the panes/windows, or if you really think that we have done this job to the best of our ability, just write us the final check and we can be done with this and close this case.” On 5/24 I ordered BDP to cease and desist all work on the contract and forbid them from accessing the property, citing breach of contract – including: Work not completed in the required timeframe Work stated in the contract not performed at all Work stated in the contract poorly performed and/or requiring rework I have not heard a response.
Description of Work: Scope of work in the contract was to prep and paint all original windows (1930’s single pane – paint exterior of 21, interior of 18), 1 door exterior, garage door interior, and a few other miscellaneous tasks (cracked windows, handrail, etc.). Work to be performed included: “PREP: Includes the following where needed: puttying, caulking, spackling, spot priming, spot stain killing, scraping, sanding, reglazing, washing and power-washing. PRIMING: Paint 1 coat of primer on all windows (frames, sashes, mullions). PAINTING: Paint 2 coats of Duron Ultra for interior, Weathershield for the exterior on the previously painted interior and exterior windows and exterior doors only.”

The customer came to us wanting a quick cheap job just to buy the place, which we did. After we finished he then changed gears and complained about prep and non-completion of non-contracted work. We tried to make him happy, we told him we could come back, he then kept the remaining money and told us not to come back. It is always our policy to do good work and to make the customer happy if they are honest and willing. Andrew Carrillo, owner

Blue Dloor was one of several contractors contacted to paint the exterior of the house. They were responsive and offered the most detailed proposal. While the work was interrupted by weather, they were prompt, courtious, detailed and professional. All of the proposed work was completed, and they also replaced several rotted window sills they discovered during the job. I was pleased with the work from start to finish
Description of Work: Powerwashed, scraped and painted all of the exterior.

A pleasure to work with. I arranged for the job during the late winter. It was too cold and damp to paint. Blue Door was very diligent in contacting me as soon as the weather was better. The job was executed flawlessly and very professionally. My wife and I have an infant and the Blue Door team was very considerate and cautious, and did a great clean up afterwards. The leader of the crew is named Carlos -- he is a true gentleman and a real professional. I would recommend asking for Carlos if you choose to work with Blue Door. I will certainly rely on Blue Door for any painting I need in the future.
Description of Work: Blue Door painted all of my home's window exteriors, door exteriors, garage door, and exterior shutters.
