Blue Door Painters

I decided not to go with them for personal reasons, but not because I wasn't satisfied with their reputation, pricing or professionalism. There were other reasons that they had no influence over as to my decision to go with another company. However, I was very impressed with the fact that they were very professional, organized and highly competitive on pricing. They sent me a detailed quote in a timely manner and followed up with me to find out my decision. When I initialed turned them down they ask why and addressed my concerns well. They proceed to work with me and when I let them know of my final decision they accepted my decision and also did not put down the other company. Although I cannot speak on their actually work, I highly commend their customer service.

The initial estimate was $2550, including power washing and painting front iron railings. Wood repair was additional, priced at $85 per replacement piece; I knew of at least five pieces that would require replacement. Original proposed contract did not specify all work needed (such as mounting the shutters, specific rotten wood replacements), but amendments were accepted before work began to use best efforts on shutters. Estimator did not return with work crew, resulting in my having to explain needed work again to workers. Workmen were timely, hard-working, flexible, meticulous and careful; no complaints about the work as done. Requested upgrade to premium exterior paint, was asked and agreed to pay $300 for the upgrade, which later seemed excessive given the quantity needed and price difference per gallon of the paint specified. The final invoice included ten wood replacements, twice what I expected. I was not offered a "walk-through" after the job was completed (as the estimate had suggested would take place) to specify them, but also did not insist on one; instead I just received and paid the invoice and later a separate invoice for the paint upgrade. I would use Blue Door again because the work was excellent but would take more pains to specify work and materials in advance to avoid a surprising total bill.

Good job other than they had to come back and repaint where some paint pealed.

Quality of work was very good. They did not clean up after themselves and do not seem very organized.

Blue Door Painters was extremely professional and a pleasure to work with. I received the dreaded HOA letter that required painting and repair work to the front of my townhouse. As a single mom, I'm on a limited budget, but I was able to get the work beautifully done by Jeff and his crew and on budget. I was leaving for a business trip the day they were coming to paint and when I returned four days later the job was done wonderfully. The front of my townhouse looked like new. I would definitely recommend them to anyone else.

Blue door painters did a fine job completing the work I had requested. There were some unexpected complications due to the height of my roof, but they worked hard to find a solution to the problem and remain within their cost estimate.

Blue Door Painter's provide a quick and convenient estimate in writing, made themselves available to sign the contract and, when our move in date shifted, juggled their schedule to get a crew on site a week early. The work performed was excellent. Work was also performed fast but this did not affect the the quality. I have found no drips, over paint or other common painting problems. During the inspection and in the days that followed, I have remained very happy with the quality of their work. Blue Door's estimate was very competitive, the lowest of three other very well rated & reviewed painters. Their staff and crews were professional, honest and knowledgeable. Blue Door will no doubt be considered by us again when we paint our personal home and our rental unit in the future.

Blue Door did an excellent job painting my newly installed Pella wood windows. They were easy to contact and communicate with via email and phone. They were quite responsive, and their pricing was excellent. The painters were very professional and courteous. It was clear they were real painters who had many years of experience. They completed the job in exactly the time-frame they estimated. My windows did not stick, and were simply flawless.

When I received estimates from 5 different exterior painting companies, Blue Door was in the upper range BUT after the job, when I factored in their professionalism, workmanship; and overall extremely pleasant attitude to work with; the higher price was well worth it. We already are planning to use them again and again.

From the beginning it was easy to work with Jeff as he gave an estimate for painting only (not replacement or repairs at that point) after receiving photos of the house. I did not get other estimates from other companies. It was in line with what I expected to spend and I liked being able to work the estimate through email. A great convenience for my situation. From the estimate, through contract through final completion and payment it was an efficient and great process. The crew was punctual, professional, and very good at their work. It was a pleasure working with them. Any questions and they consulted me before proceeding. Overall a good experience. I would definitely recommend this company, and I am glad that I found them through Angie's List.

Blue Door came out the same day I called to give me an estimate, then promptly mailed a contract. After signing and giving them a deposit I didn't hear back for a couple of weeks so I ended up calling them to schedule an appointment. Got an appointment the next day, which was a Saturday so that was nice. Good experience overall, and I like supporting my local Arlington businesses.

This company was great. They had a great price. Their willingness to communicate was great. The crew's attention to detail and willingness to help out was great. They were clean and very polite.

Avoid this company. Blue Door's work was very poor and shoddy. In addition, their contract deviated significantly from their quote. Even more significantly, they caused severe damage to our house and landscaping by carelessly painting our trees and damaging the trees in abrasively trying to remove the paint. They lost one of our 70+ year old shutters which they had removed to paint. In addition, when the paint peeled and blistered within months of their work, they refused to honor their warranty provisions. Truly a deeply frustrating experience with the type of organization that exemplifies why so many people dread working with contractors and the home repair industry.

For my estimate inquiry I was asked to send in pictures to get a quick turn-around, and they did respond to my request pretty fast. I just never got a face-to-face with a rep. (pretty busy I guess!). They called me the evening before they started (28 days later), then they promptly started the next morning. I had provided a color label and trim sample when I sent a deposit check, but when the painters arrived, they didn't have that and thankfully I had another sample to give them. Also for the siding color I should have had a color in mind, and I didn't have a lot of time to decide so when I chose a creamy color for my siding, I was 'sorted' of talked out of it and went with a 'more white' color. Later as they were putting on the primer that had been tinted with this color I realized my mistake and thankfully had a chance to change my mind and went with the first choice I had looked at. I had to eat the $90 for the 3 gallon cans of paint of the first color they had already purchased. I won't ding the company for the price, paint is expensive but Duron is high-quality. The second color was definitely more in line with the other townhouses. The quality of the work is very good, very professional and took care in doing a great job. But I have one complaint, although they bought drop cloths, they left spatter of paint (I didn't notice until they left) on my deck, my outside wrought-iron table (that I should have covered, but only moved out of their way) and also on a small piece of railing that they had painted on the first day. Another small issue I had was, the front door had been painted early the second day, but at 4:00pm as they were leaving, they put on a second coat, and I was told it would dry in an hour, but after an hour it was still tacky to the touch. I was fearful of closing the door because I thought it would leave a mark so I had to leave it open for 5 more hours. I would have rather they had not put the second coat on. These are small issues and overall I am happy with the job since it looks very good. They were very cordial and professional and left the place the way they found it, other than the small splatter issues. This was my first exposure as a homeowner for exterior painting so I felt that there might be others out there and hope they will take my experience to heart.

I had Blue Door Painters powerwash my townhome. I picked them based on reports in Angies List and their location to me. The first crew came out and while they did a very good job, they did not have the right ladders to get to the top of my home. I talked with Jeff and we rescheduled a date for finishing up the work. Their work is top notch. They did a very good job and I will bring them back next time I need the outside of my home powerwashed. The company is very concerned with making sure that the customer is very satisfied with their work, and Jeff was very responsive when he called to see how the job went on the first trip. I had sent Blue Door digital pictures of house to save them from making a site visit, so I think this is why they had to make a second trip. While I was not in a big rush to get the work completed, Jeff wanted to ensure that dates were met and the work was done right.

The team was very efficient and very responsive. We did have to point out a few things that we wanted to make sure got done to our satisfaction, but they were quick to address them. We were very specific with our up-front specifications and had several competing bids. In the end, Blue Doors was the best price/service/value deal by far. There were bidders from Angie's List who bid the exact same job for almost twice the price and who argued that it was not possible given the specs to do it for less. There were also bidders for less who simply did not have the professionalism or service attitude to be worth the hassle. Blue Doors will be our first call for our next painting project!

When I called for an estimate someone came out that same day to meet with me and then provided a written estimate via email by that evening. It took a 3 - 4 weeks to schedule the job due to the rain but once the scheduled the job a team of painters came in the morning and completed the entire job in one day. The crew was very professional and cleaned up everything when they were done. They were responsive to a couple touch-ups that I asked for afterwards and got them done quickly. I was very pleased with the service and would recommend this company to my friends and neighbors.

Finding a good contractor is a very stressful activity, so I joined Angie's List. I was surprised to find I could find a contractor there to perform a limited service such as power washing. Blue Door was the first company I read about on Angies List, so I called them and they responded fast. They took the time to make sure we were communicating well and they did what they said they would do and in the time frame we agreed on. So far using Angies List has been a positive experience.

Came for an estimate same day I emailed them; work was done within a couple of weeks--exactly when they said and was done well.,

Someone from Blue Doors came to look at the work that needed to be done, and took pictures. They were good at being very specific and detailed about exactly what they would do and would not do (how many doors and windows needed painting, what they could fix and what they could not). The quote I received was also very professional, with details and specifics (number of coats of paint, etc...). Price was also very competitive. However, I chose not to go with them because they took the longest in getting back to me with a quote. I had to call them several times to get someone to come to the house to give me a quote, and after that, I had to follow up with them to send me a the formal quote through e-mail. While others had given me a quote on the spot, they e-mailed me the quote the following day. Besides that (lack of responsiveness), I would consider going to them again for future work.

Our experience with Blue Door Painters was great, all the way from the bid process to the final product. Jeff from BDP came out to our house promptly after we contacted them for a bid. They took their time walking around the entire house, and provided us with a bid within a day of previewing the job. He provided us with a bid for the initial job, and per our request, also provided us with some alternative bids in case we wanted more/less done. Blue Door Painters scheduled the job during the month of April, per our request, and showed up promptly on the day the job was to begin. They power washed the house and completed all the painting in the same day, and did a fantastic job. They also did a great job of matching the old paint color we already had on certain parts of the house (since we weren't getting the entire house repainted). Blue Door Painters exceeded our expectations and we will definitely use them again in the future.

Everything has gone well. We have signed a contract with them to do the work.

Blue Door Painters were excellent from start to finish. The estimator, Debbie, was extremely friendly and spent quite awhile taking pictures of the house so that the painters would know exactly what was involved. She also offered to help with paint colors and went out of her way to check out similar homes in our neighborhood and suggest various paint color options. We ended up needing to push back our start date and, Jeff, happily accommodated our request. The painting crew, headed up by Carlos, were PHENOMENAL. They were professional, friendly, tidy and did not mind me constanty looking over their shoulders. Carlos repeatedly confirmed color choices and made some suggestions that ended up making the house look even better! The painters never cut corners and made sure the job was done right again and again. Our new shutters had not arrived by the time the painting was complete. Despite having to come back out a week later, Jeff sent out a small crew to replace our shutters once they arrived. The house looks amazing thanks to Blue Door Painters.

Very positive experience. Blue Door immediately responded to our inquiry for a price estimate. The staff was pleasant and professional. It took about four days for their written estimate to arrive by e-mail. The price estimate was very fair, though it was initially unclear if they had applied the advertised Angie's List discount. About two days after sending in our deposit check, we received a call asking about the scheduling of the job. This was suprisingly fast. The painting crew arrived a few days later. They were very polite and professional. They took care around the house and appeared to take pride in their work. They cleaned-up after the first day and left the yard free of any ladders/tools/etc. The painting job was done very nicely. No drips or runs. They took care to match the color of our front door to our shutters (which were not being painted). The entire job took about 1 1/2 days. A week or so after they had finished, we got an e-mail with the invoice attached and a message urging us to contact Blue Door if we had any problems or concerns. This was a good experience all the way around. We chose Blue Door largely because of their Angie's List rating and their competitive price. I would definitley recommend Blue Door and will certainly use them again when the need arises.

My experience with them was fine. They had the best price, and that is why I chose them. I didn’t have to wait for them at all. I was satisfied with their work too as it was of good quality. I was very happy with them overall.
