After contacting several companies in the area and receiving estimates we chose JES. This was based on price (they were the lowest) and also on the fact their inspection was thorough and they explained in great detail what the problem was and how they would fix it. They took pictures in the crawl space to show us the problem and didn't try to sell us something beyond what we really needed, unlike some other companies. They arrived on time, worked on schedule, were very professional and did a great job. We had another issue just this week and JES came out today and took care of it as well. It turned out to be such a small problem that they said they usually don't do that type of work. But the went ahead and fixed it....at no charge! That type of customer service and loyalty to customers is rare these days. It was a small thing for them but huge for us. I will use JES again for any structural/foundation issues and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: JES repaired a structural problem with our foundation framing. Some walls had cracked and doors would not shut. They installed a new supplemental beam on support jacks and replaced a cracked floor joist.

I called 11 days ago to schedule an appointment for an estimate. We agreed on 1 pm on a Friday. They later called back and moved the appointment back until 2 pm the same day. On the appointed day, I get a call at 1:30 from the person doing the estimate. He said he wouldn't be there until 3:15-3:20. I told him I wouldn't be meeting him but I would have my realtor meet him. I gave him my realtor's number. He later told the realtor he was 90 miles away and wouldn't be there until 4:30-5:00 pm. My realtor told him that we'd have to reschedule which we won't be doing.

It was a large job, and Evergreen arrived as scheduled, completed the entire process in an extremely professional manner, explained what they did, and emphasized their desire to come back at any time if problems arouse. We have had absolutely not problem in the 6 months since, and the crawl spaces remain pristine. Recent contractors working on a bathroom upgrade commented they had never seen a better basement job.
Description of Work: We had a long standing dampness problem in our massive crawl spaces, all coming from A/C duct condensation in warm weather. Evergreen provided the most comprehensive evaluation, removed old insulation and debris, and installed complete foundation insulation encapsulation, sealed all crevices, installed heavy duty insulated ground coverage and 2 backup dehumidifiers in the largest crawl spaces.

We are not doing so well right now and we are not too happy with them. What we hoped for and what they are doing are two different things. They are coming back today to go over everything with my husband because of the issues. They tend to tell you one thing but then they do something else. It is completely still not leveled, we have got bumps on the floor in certain spots and from the laser it is way off. As far as talking to you and everything it has been nice, but we have got some other issues. We just got a shade and we had the stuff in the garage and I let them go through the garage while they rolled over the woods for the shade to build and we've ended up with a piece that was destroyed all over the decks. They said they were going to take care of it because it was raining when they were here and didn't. With price I know they are comparable to everybody else. Some stuff is really good and the rest of it is bad.
Description of Work: Evergreen Basement Systems are supposed to be leveling our house because it was sagging and they haven't done that.

JES sent a structural engineer to assess my problem. My home had developed cracks where the walls meet the ceiling and that problem was getting worse almost day to day. The engineer determined that the beam under this house was sinking - 3/4" - because the builder put supports every 12 feet apart instead of the 8 feet-10 feet which was required. I phoned the company, they gave me the first 2 dates when they would be able to do their work. They came on 3/21 to dig holes and fill those holes with concrete to hold the new jacks. A week was needed for the concrete to cure and they returned on 3/28 to use those jacks to hoist the beam back into place. They then shimmed up the older supports so they would share the weight of the house. The workmen were all professional and friendly - they answered my questions and explained exactly what they were doing. Scheduling the time of day for workers to arrive could have been a problem. I was told they would be here around 8:30 AM for their first visit. Then several days before that date, someone called me and said they would be here at 1:00 PM. I planned to leave home that morning, returning before 1:00, but I didn't - and it's a good thing because I got a call from a member of the crew. He apologized for being late, said they had some problem with their truck but they were on their way and would be there soon. Had I left that morning, I would have missed their phone call and no one would have been here to grant them access to the crawl space.
Description of Work: The beam supporting my house was sinking. JES installed four new jacks under the beam which moved it back into place. They then shimmed up the existing supports so they would help keep that beam where it belonged.

They took measurements of the space to include humidity readings. Unlike another company that stood outside of the crawl space and guessed at the measurements which turned out to be way off. The day of installation, they came in, did exactly what they said they would and finished quicker then the estimated time. I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Very professional. They came out and crawled into my crawl space and did a thorough inspection.

Everyone from top to bottom, was professional and courteous. They were punctual and responsive. We encountered a problem during the installation and they handled it - saving me a headache. I really appreciated that. The entire team was knowledgable and helpful. They worked fast and efficiently - not dragging this out like some service providers. Afterwards, they cleaned up and explained the drain-system to me. A week later they followed up with a spray treatment over the new concrete. They are very service oriented and care about your basement..!

There do not seem to be other competitors for this service in Roanoke area. Despite this, Evergreen handled their business with us as if we were the only job they had on the books-- and our house is very small. We just purchased this small fixer upper. I noticed bad smell throughout the house - mostly dirt smell. We wanted to be sure we addressed any moisture, mold, radon, etc. Evergreen was honest that we had no moisture issues and did not try to add on unnecessary services. They explained the process and materials to us thoroughly. We went with the extra strong fiber under the plastic as they suggested. The plastic they use is very thick. It appears to be sealed very well. It is tidy and clean and we can crawl or walk on the encapsulated material. Our electrician and plumber have been able to get in and do their work and although they have been careful, they have had no problem with seams opening or material tearing at all. We have done a lot of remodeling in the last month besides the encapsulation, and our new home no longer has a dirt smell at all. We even had the ducts cleaned by another vendor to be sure we had things all cleaned out. I think the cost may have been a little high for the size of our house, but again, they do not seem to have competition. To me, it is well worth the cost to eliminate the dirt odor, know that ground moisture that may create mold is sealed off, and the have the crawlspace area cleared, cleaned and sealed. Even my husband who does not have a sensitive sense of smell or allergies, feels this process was well worth it. I will add that Evergreen workers were very hard working. They had to clear space, scrape, smooth and work in crawl space - a dirty difficult job. But they were work horses and very professional! I commend Evergreen for attracting and keeping good quality helpers. I am a Class B Remodeling Contractor specializing in interior remodeling, so my standards of workmanship are high. They did not miss a beat. Did a great job beginning to end. Sharon S Roanoke City Virginia

Service crews were excellent, on time, were courteous, and performed as outlined in contract. Three day job - home office pulled crew off without notice the morning of third day and sent new crew. Had to explain to crew what first crew did - I didn't like the crew being switched in the middle of the job. Also, home office foreman disputed what was contracted for since they had a preliminary draft instead of final contract: had to resolve what to do with crews: would have been conflict had I not had a written copy of specific work items to be performed.

The estimate went great. Punctual, professional and great explanation of the problem. They worked within our budget and helped prioritize needs. The work itself was a nightmare of rescheduling, showing up without telling us, incomplete work, additional work that wasn't supposed to happen but did because they didn't know what they were supposed to do (thanks for the free drain!) and very poor communication from one of the office staff. Apparently they grew a lot this year and have not worked out the kinks. Eventually the work was completed and was done well. Not sure whether or not I would use them again, it was a lot more of a headache than I expected.

I will begin by saying that I am pleased with the finished product and believe that JES employees are knowledgeable about what they do. They are professional, but if there had been a category above for communication - I would have assigned an "F". My story turned into a saga requiring three different scheduled dates with different crews as a result of the poor communication between office and crew, between office and inspector, and between JES and I regarding the work to be done and the material needed to finish that work. They completed the work to meet my expectations, but it required many phone calls to reach that point. Check over your contract carefully and be aware that if a detail is not written, it is not included. (Example: Most of the insulation under my house was in good condition, but some sections were hanging and the first crew that installed drainage removed a small hanging section that was probably in the way as they worked. Because insulation was not mentioned in my contract, I had to call the office to have that section replaced.) I might use them in the future due to the quality of the materials and the hard work of the crews, but I would be keeping a written log of conversations with the company.

We are waiting for the job to be done-Due to our wet year their schedule is very busy-but their service is so impressive we are willing to wait. Will be happy to report more details later .Received a letter a few days ago detailing exactly what to expect on the day of work and offering helpful advice . This company seems to truly value its customers.
Description of Work: Representative arrived on time and was very helpful in explaining the options needed to repair the flooding of water in our basement. Before he came the company mailed me a book with detailed information about types of basement problems.so I was able to clearly understand recommendations for the needed repairs when the Rep. presented his plans to fix our basement. .

He returned on time on the date he stated he would do the work. My husband supervised the work, and stated that he completed the work in a reasonable amount of time. He cleaned up behind himself very well. I give Evergreen an "A" on price, because although they charge more than some other people, we have neighbors who have gotten someone who charged less, but then had more water problems in the basement after the work was done. The original work was done in May, 2012, and we have had a very nice, dry basement ever since then. We used to have to rent a wet-dry vac after almost every big rain storm. The basement has remained dry despite a very wet, rainy summer this year, and rain and straight-line winds from a derecho at the end of June, 2012. Evergreen suggests that you get a checkup of your system once a year, so we had them come back this August to do an inspection. Everything was still fine. The cost of the inspection is $98.
Description of Work: Checked all areas of the basement thoroughly, explained what work needed to be done to waterproof the basement, gave his estimate, and set a date with us to do the work. The work included sealing cracks in a few places in the concrete walls, installing a sump pump with an alarm, and additional sealing work to keep water from seeping in through the back basement wall.

Bryce Blais was an outstanding source of information and support. After determining that my crawl space would not benefit from JES services, he went back under my teeny crawl space to determine the source of moisture in my old farmhouse. He assessed the problem and then spent almost an hour providing his professional expertise and advice. He sent me an email so that I could ask him more questions. I was extremely impressed with this young man. He was so knowledgeable, kind, and professional. He gave me very practical advice to deal with the moisture in my crawl space. All at NO cost! I felt so much better after listening to his assessment and advice. Bravo Bryce! Bravo JES Foundation Repair!

A thoroughly professional job from start to finish. After I set up the initial appointment I received a comprehensive booklet on the services Evergreen provided. The representative was on time and came equipped with camera and laptop. After he inspected the crawlspace he prepared a presentation and an estimate of the work required which he then reviewed with me. Once I selected Evergreen the scheduling and preparation was very organized. They have great project management in place. I received post cards confirming the date and detailing the electrical work needed. I just handed the electrical post card to my electrician and he knew immediately what needed to be done and provided an estimate on the spot. Evergreen took care of notifying the utility companies to come out and mark water and gas lines. The installation crew arrived within the scheduled window. After reviewing the work to be done with me they went right to work and completed the job the same day. The clean up was great - could not even tell they had been in my yard, except for the new drain. The Evergreen team coordinated well with the electrician so the entire job was completed in one day. I received an evaluation form from Evergreen shortly after the job was completed. I had occasion to call the office with a follow-up question and the staff was very responsive and addressed my question at once. I am very satisfied with this company and would recommend them.
Description of Work: In order to resolve a water problem in a crawl space Evergreen cleaned out the existing plastic and tar paper lining materials, installed french drains, a plastic wrap on the floor and walls, a dehumidifier, a sump pump with battery back-up and an outside drain for the sump pump.

Work was adequately completed as contracted, but "extra" costs/items were "needed" - way more expensive (about $2000) than we initially were quoted. Contractors had to come back and finish work at a later date due to the fact they did not complete the job as contracted - once they were informed they did come out very quickly and finish the job.

I'm sorry that you are unhappy with your JES experience. We strive to provide everyone with the best solution and design at the time of the inspection. Occasionally our installers find that more materials may be needed in order to complete the job correctly. While this is a rarity, it does happen, and this is why we continue to educate our inspectors and installers on the products, installation techniques and safety practices. I would like to speak with you further about your situation. If you would please give me a call, when it's convenient for you, I'd appreciate it. Respectfully, Scott Davis, VP 866-370-4816

Overall, the workers were quite nice and seemed knowledgeable. However, their clean up and restoring the foundation in a "final" condition was not sufficient and we should have been informed as to how the property was going to be left.
Description of Work: While the extent of the repairs was quite extensive, the adjustments that needed to be made have not been adequate to correct the issues within the house that appeared. We have had to have them back to the property for a few adjustments and more are still required. I am hopeful that the final adjustments can be made and that the interior of the house will be fully corrected.

I called Evergreen Basement Systems to come and look at my mom's 1950's basement and provide an estimate for waterproofing. They arrived on time and drove 3 hours to get to her house. An estimate was provided and my mom was giving a 5% discount if she scheduled the work to be done within one week. On the day of the work, the workers arrived early, put down protection on the floor, performed the work flawlessly and cleaned up when they were done. Work was completed on time and at the price quoted.

Our basement developed a settlement crack over the past year. Nowater was observed despite some heavy rain until we had a huge storm that dumped several inches of rain in a short period of time. I contacted Evergreen Basement Systems and they sent somebody out at the appointed time (actually 1/2 hour early after calling first to see if it was o.k.) for an estimate. The company representative was extremely organized and very professional in all aspects. He thoroughly explained everything and answered all my questions. The workers arrived on time. Both were very profesional in their approach to the job, completing it in less time than estimated. They answered my questions and didn't mind me sitting in the basement observing what they did. After finishing up, they cleaned up the slight mess, answered a couple more questions and left. I am extremely happy with the way things turned out.

The workers were extremely friendly, very punctual and professional, and when they encountered problems they worked hard to resolve them. They warned us before they started that occasionally they hit plumbing lines; and in our home, they did indeed break a vent line which ran along the footing. They repaired it and moved on. Unfortunately, however, the vibration from the jackhammer apparently shook something loose in our septic line, and it backed up almost immediately. We had to have a plumber come to snake our line out to our septic tank. This was not expected, and they did not actually hit the line; but I thought I should put that out there for those with older homes like ours. It was an unpleasant and costly surprise. We also had to have an electrical line installed to accommodate the sump pump prior to the installation--it is recommended they be placed on their own breaker line; and we had to have 2 installed (one for each line). There was lots of dust everywhere, even though they covered things and sealed off our door to the upstairs. They cleaned the floor well before they left, but there was still lots of dust to clean after they left. We also had some jackhammer vibration damage on our fireplace hearth. I pointed this out to them on their return visit to install the wallboard and they have promised to come repair it. The wallboard installation was very straightforward; they cut the wallboard outside to minimize dust; and the installation utilized a clip kind of method between the boards. We had one very heavy rain a few weeks after the installation; the new concrete became damp, but there was no water in the basement. They told me the damp concrete is typical when it has not had time to set enough. Because my basement can go months, even years, between flooding incidents, I cannot say for certain this system works; but the indications are good. I will have to update after it has had a significant test. Based on the company's responsiveness and general professionalism, I highly recommend them. I just have to see if it actually works...and for the money, I sure hope so! I am updating this review 2/26/2013--We have had several rains which have caused our new basement waterguard system and pump to kick in, and I can say this system does indeed work! It was a joy to watch that water pumping out into the yard instead of into my basement! Evergreen still has not repaired our fireplace hearth, however...still waiting on that...otherwise great job!
Description of Work: We had two visits from Evergreen Basement Systems. The first, which took 4 days, was to have a waterguard interior basement system installed; and the second visit was to have some waterproof wall board installed in an area where we had decided to remove the panelling. The Waterguard installation was for our entire basement--a small ditch was jackhammered down to the footing; gravel was placed in the ditch, and the waterguard (looks kind of like a gutter) was placed on top. After installing, it was tested and then covered with concrete. We also had a large dual sump pump with battery backup installed, as well as the external drainage pipe. Our basement size is approximately 1300 square feet, so this was a big job. During the 4 day period, they also installed some crawl space insulation in a small crawl space, and put in some "insofast" wallboard backing in preparation for later installation of wallboard. About six weeks later we had them return to put in some waterproof wallboard. This installation was for part of the basement, approxiomately 90 feet. They installed all the wallboard and trim in one day.

We used Evergreen Basements Systems to pour basements for us. My husband is a contractor and he used them for pouring basements. We felt the pricing was reasonable and they were professional and did the work well. If we needed this type of work done again we would call them.
Description of Work: We used Evergreen Basements Systems when they were doing concrete work.
