+ 0 moreIt was the entire bathroom. We had trouble immediately with the commode which was supposed to be an energy-saving type of commode. They came back and installed a new one, but I continuously had problems with it. They put the wrong rings and they would never stay in. I finally went out and bought something else, but the commode was the biggest problem. I had a problem with leaking around the faucets in the sink. I still have a continuous problem with the faucets leaking. They didn't follow up properly. I would not recommend them.

+ 0 moreThe bill came to $4,500....I then called several other plumbers and their prices were much less.....My husband spoke to the owner of Steinhorst and after a rather heated discussion, they deducted around $350.....and claimed that this was the going price. I will NEVER use them again...plus they did a lousy job covering the hole in the cement floor.
Description of Work: After finding that several attempts to clear my kitchen drain didn't work, the worker said that they would have to go into my basement and go through the cement floor to get to the pipes that were clogged. He indicated that it might be around 3-4 thousand dollars! I believed that Steinhorst was fair in their pricing so I agreed.

Description of Work: Had trouble with both showers putting out too much hot water...not enough cold. Had to have parts replaced on both shower handles.

+ -1 moreOverall very efficient and professional from start to finish. Actual price (fixed price) was right around ballpark estimate originally quoted on phone by Dennis. They had a cancellation for original afternoon time window, so called in morning to see if they could come first thing, and CJ arrived as scheduled. CJ was professional, did excellent work, cleaned up the area, and gave good advice/information on types of available hose bibs, whether to use customer provided vs. their materials (used mine), how to maintain it, etc.

Description of Work: Things and communication seemed very good in the begining. The initial phone call and person that came to give the estimate was friendly. The estimator told me that the leak that was dripping from my faucet in the bathtub would be easily fixed with the proper part that he would order. He couldn't quote me the fee to the part until he did some research. He also quoted to replace my faucet in the bathroom sink, I could supply my own or he could bring it and charge me for it. I wanted to save costs and bought it myself. Lastly, I told him about the vent to my dryer wasn't working properly and he said he would fix it by connecting the vent without charge if I had him do the other work too. So I agreed, waited for them to quote me the fees. The manager contacts me a couple days later. Apparently whatever was promised from the initial estimator was not communicated to his manager. He said he would email me he quote but I never received it. He was short with me, and frankly rude on the phone after trying to deal with the problems I had with their services. They came and tried to fix the dripping tub faucet but could not get it to stop dripping. They could not resolve the issue and still wanted me to pay the full amount! The manager/owner was rude when dealin with this. He finally agreed to charge me partial fee for NOT fixing the tub faucet. I just wanted the conflict to end so I agreed to pay it. They changed the faucet in the bathroom sink fine but found out after the fact that the faucet I bought was missing a part and never bothered to call or contact me to let me know. To be fair, it should have been home that day to deal with them. Anyhow, I felt it should have been communicated after the job what complications arose. They fixed my dryer vent connection but charged me for it, which is fine if that was what they communicate in the beginning. Poor management of expectations regarding fees and what they are capable of fixing. I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone!

+ -1 moreThis complaint is over a plumbing leak search service call. I have water damage and need a plumbing leak searcg to find and fix the water leak that is damaging my townhouse. Servpro water mitigation service and my homeowners insurance requested the water leak search by a experienced plumbing company. I have no information that this was done. I would like a way to post on Angies list, the service technician notes to this service leak search very much. I asked the technician to use a Angies list coupon, which he excepted. When I asked the owner for information to located the water leak, he refused to give me any information regarding the leak search because the Angies list coupon was not to be used towards payment. Also the technician seem only to record information for a shower repair estimate that Steinhorst Plumbing could do. That was not the purpose of the service call, I need information on the water leak. Owner refuses to help find the leak now because of misunderstanding about a bathroom renovation that Steinhorst Plumbing is not performing.

+ -1 moreThe person I talked to on the phone told me it's often easily fixed by tightening it. He asked if we had tried that. We had, but he was honest that we might want to try again and save us the service call charge for something that usually takes just a minute to fix. We borrowed a better tool from our parents and tried again to tighten it. This time it worked and we have a fixed faucet for free.
Description of Work: I had a leaky kitchen sink faucet. I called to get it fixed.

+ 0 moreOur hot water heater was leaking and we called a couple of places for estimates. Steinhorst's price was good comparably, and they were able to come out the following Monday morning. We live in a ranch house, on a slab foundation. The hot water heater is accessed by an outside door in a small utility room. My husband helped with some of the work, as parts of it needed two sets of hands. Overall, it went really well!
Description of Work: They made sure our water supply was turned off, then pulled the old hot water heater out, installed new piping, and then installed the new hot water heater. They bled the pipes, and advised it would be a couple of hours before we would have warm, then hot water.

+ -1 moreMy garbage disposal stopped working; it was jammed. Called Steinhorst because they advertised set prices. The guy who booked the appointment was very helpful and even advised a few things for me to try to fix the disposal on my own. Unfortunately none of the suggestions worked. The day of the appointment the plumber arrived on time and was very professional. He gave a few options on solutions, of which I chose to have a new disposal installed. The disposal was installed within an hour, with no mess and no leaks.
Description of Work: Replaced garbage disposal.

+ -1 moreThe toilet shutoff valve was leaking profusely, so I was relieved that Steinhorst could send a plumber the same day. I called at 7:00 am, and was told the plumber would be there after 1:00. He arrived at 1:30, and completed the repair in 20 minutes. Both the man who took the order and the plumber were very courteous, helpful, and thorough. However, I was astonished at the price for such a simple repair. A quick look at the Home Depot website told me the parts retail for about $20, so it appears I was charged $180 for 20 minutes of labor. Even allowing for a trip charge, that's pretty steep. Although I trust Steinhorst to do quality work (I've used them for years), I think it is time to comparison shop labor prices. Don't send your kids to college - send them to plumbing school!

+ 0 moreGuy came and BROKE the top of my blue toilet by placing it on the side of the bathtub then knocking into it. Result: had to replace the whole toilet since this colored unit was no longer available from American Standard. His first trip cost me over $500 and he had to return to install the new toilet which he gave me at a "discount price" of $250 plus installation. He should have replaced the entire thing free since he was the one who broke an unreplaceable part of an old (1964) colored toilet. I have used them for years and years, have recommended them to others but will not use them again.

+ -1 moreIn a moment of inexplicable idiocy, I put a bunch of bad sauerkraut down the disposal. It chewed it up, but totally clogged up the pipes beyond. Called Steinhorst on a Thursday late afternoon. They picked right up, and were able to come out the next day. The plumber showed up exactly when they said they would, and the office gave an alert call half-an-hour beforehand, which allowed me to get back home from the office. The clog was snaked out quickly...it was close in, but just beyond the reach of my low-grade household snake. The plumber then reassembled the piping that I'd disassembled to get to the clog. He was very careful not to make a mess, laying down tarp and wearing disposable footie things over his shoes. The whole thing took less than an hour, and was very professional. Cost, though, was higher than I'd like for the type of service provided and the time involved...at $250, including the Angie's List coupon discount, it was a bit painful, particularly given that I could have accomplished the same thing myself with a rental snake for one-fifth the price. Overall, the experience was generally positive. They seem like a professional, capable, and responsive outfit, although I'd think you could get work of this nature done for considerably less.

+ -1 moreThe laundry tray pump (motorized pump to eject water from sink to sewage pipe since sink is below ground level) died. I called and asked them to replace it. Had discussions re: getting a good one, how long they last, etc. When Joe came to house to replace the pump, he looked at the basement and suggested an alternative: re-route the piping to an existing drain pipe instead. The cost was within $30 of the cost of replacing the pump, and had the added benefit of longevity. The laundry tray pumps tend to die easily if you get stuff in them, and most likely within 3-5 years I would end up replacing again. Joe had to return again on another day since he didn't have all the parts to re-route the pipes. When he came, the whole thing was done in less than 3 hours. He cleaned up everything - no mess whatsoever. Job well done! I appreciated the suggestions and advice from the folks that answer the phones as well as the technician that came to the house. I also appreciated the Military discount! Thanks!

+ 0 moreThey attempted to fix the faucet and charged me $128 for it but their fix attempt made the leaking worse. They suggested then that it was too old and said I needed to replace the entire faucet which would be an additional $200 (which included a replacement faucet and labor). They said if I ordered the new faucet myself, it would only be $150 to install. I got a new faucett myself and decided to find someone else to install it. They only charged me $45. They removed and replaced a tub spout. The new tub spout had the same leak as the old tub spout, only to a lesser degree. The plumber said there was a manufacturer's defect and they would reorder the part. When "Craig" the owner decided he did not want to do business with me anymore, he cancelled the appointment to install the replacement tub spout. When I asked Craig to at least give me the part number and manufacturer's phone number so I could reorder the spout, he refused. I have since ordered the part from the manufacturer, but it is the wrong part. (Steinhorst had not charged me for the faulty tub spout or installation of it.) I must add that at one point I'd requested back the $128 and he was a bit insulting to me. I admit that I was a bit insulting right back and they no longer want me as a customer.
Description of Work: I hired them because I'd had them here before (10 years ago or so). This time I needed them to install a water heater, which went fine, some other misc plumbing needs and to also repair a sink faucet.. which didn't go so well. In addition to that I felt I had to follow the technician around during each job to double check that everything was completed and functioning properly as I felt uncertain that those checks were being properly followed up.

+ -1 moreSince I have used Steinhorst many times in the past I did not get multiple estimates for the job. This was a big mistake, as I believe $645 for 1 hour and half of work was excessive. The $645 was for the job and was not based on hours worked. However, the quality of the work was excellent.
Description of Work: Remove and dispose of old vanity top in bathroom sink. Install customer supplied new vanity top. Remove and reinstall old faucet, replace supply lines.

+ 0 moreThe folks at Steinhorst (Craig and Joe) were incredibly helpful and responsive. We had been going on 4 years of recurring problems with a water heater installed by another company. Steinhorst helped us identify the root of the problem and we decided to install a tankless heater instead. The worked with us to configure the small space in our laundry room to keep it workable. Joe, who did the bulk of the work, was exceptional. Even the city inspector raved about his work and stated that it was really nice to see someone who clearly takes pride in the work he does. They were ontime, cleaned up, responsive. Nothing but positive comments. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Removal of existing hot water heater and replacement with Rinnai tankless water heater. Pipe repairs.

+ -1 moreThe service provider [Joe #3] arrived on time with his assistant. He explained the situation and what the possible alternative might involve. Example: if the stem was not available for replacement, he might have to make a small hole in the wall to access the work area. Upon his explanation, he quoted me a price. I am so pleased because I needed this done for a very long time. Over a period of time I attempted help at Hardware stores and Plumbing supply locations and received no help. I greatly appreciate Steinhorst's care and consideration. It turned out not to be as BIG A DEAL as all the previous persons had me to think.
Description of Work: Repaired a shower drip, which seemed to be caused by the need to replace the STEM attached to the faucet.

Description of Work: Had problem with kitchen sink not draining and coffee grounds from disposal in sink in half-bath. Responded immediately but said all cupboards and granite counter would have to be removed to fix problem with overall cost of $3000. I got a second estimate and they fixed it without having to take kitchen apart at about 25% of the price.
