Spent a lot of time trying to restore Juno--at times appearing to try the same thing over and over, expecting a different result. He told me to use Juno only for E-mail, not for the web, but did not make clear why. In the process of his work--much of which I did not understand--he moved around all my icons (seemingly without purpose), so I was left with a scrambled desktop. When I open a file now, the list of contents fills the whole screen, whereas it used to be small and easy to view with other file lists. E-mails now stretch far beyond the limits of my monitor, necessitating scrolling back and forth to read each line. In general, I feel that he did not respect or preserve the settings that others had carefully set up for me--I felt he ran rough shod over them.
Description of Work: Restored access to my Juno e-mail system, but was unable to resurrect the files of past e-mails. Said he might be able to find them on another visit. Answered some additional questions and made some recommendations without adequate explanation of the reasons.

I recently resigned from my job where I have always had in-house IT support. So purchasing a new computer and trying to get Microsoft Word/Outlook set-up as well as learn how to integrate AOL email with Microsoft was a daunting task. I scheduled an appointment with the Geek Squad but the earliest time they had open was a week away. That day arrived and Geek Squad rescheduled the appointment for the end of that week (four more days). In my frustration, I searched Angie's List and found Fil Feit's company. Called him and he was totally responsive to my phone call. Turned out he was in the area and offered to come by the same day but I had a conflict. We scheduled a meeting for the next day. Fil was on time and provided the exact type of help I needed. No question is too stupid for Fil. He is patient, reassuring, understanding of your frustrations and a complete professional. He's even available via phone and/or email. Following our initial meeting, another problem came up so I called him and he returned my call promptly and talked me through the problem. Fil even followed-up that evening with an email that contained some additional explanatory information which was very helpful. Very reassuring to know that IT support is so accessible and responsive. If you are having computer issues call Fil immediately. I am nominating him for sainthood!
Description of Work: Fil Feit was a life saver. He helped me set-up my new computer and reconfigured by AOL e-mail so I can receive it in Microsoft Outlook. Fil also adjusted some computer features so they were more like what I was accustomed to from my office computer.

We got Computer Ease from Angie's list, and Mr. Feit called us very quickly after we had left a message on his answering service. He happened to be in our neighborhood and stopped by within 5 minutes. He spent an hour--all the time that was necessary--in straightening out problems (primarily backup) that we had with two notebook computers. We were very pleased with his ability, attitude, and promptness.
Description of Work: Mr. Feit demonstrated a quick and efficient way to back up our files on a separate hard drive. He answered all our questions along the way, and he performed a few requested unscheduled tasks, freeing us up from some roadblocks we had unintentionally constructed for ourselves. He urged us to call him again in the event we had further questions about what he had done in straightening out our PC's.

Fil Feit is the owner and he is very easy to deal with. He has a pleasant manner and is quite up to date about the latest information. He has a very helpful website with free downloads that are supportive. He responds quickly to calls and emails when service is needed.

He had a very difficult time in getting the housing removed from my Gateway Computer. After he found all the hidden latches he was able to change out the CD/DVD drive. He put the desktop back together and powered it back up and for a completely unknown reason the computer would not "recognize" the drive even though the new drive was listed in the hardware, and you could "see" the new drive when he checked the system BIOS. Nothing that he was able to check suggested that anything was wrong with the system controller. He was totally stumped. But here is why COMPUTER EASE should be the FIRST person you call if you have a problem with your computer. Beyond his incredible responsiveness (returned my email inquiry within 2 hours...on a SUNDAY) when he determined that this was something that he was not able to fix, he left the new disk drive installed in place, apologized profusely for not being able to resolve the matter and would not accept any payment of any kind either for the new drive that he had bought [and left in the machine] or for his time [he was at my home for about 1 1/2 hours]. He said you don't owe me anything because I didn't do anything for you! Well, he may not have been able to do anything for my computer, but he sure as heck restored my faith in service providers who are proud of what they do and don't believe in charging when they can't perform to their own high standards. In this day and age Mr Feit is most unusual, but based upon his stellar ratings on the list, he is most certainly appreciated by those who have chosen him to fix their ailing computers!
Description of Work: Mr. Feit had diagnosed a defective CD/DVD Drive based upon things he had me try to do in response to my email. He came to my home the day after I called him to replace the CD/DVD drive.

They were very responsive, they came to the house the same day. They identified the problem as the CD-Rom drive failed which cause the DVD rewrite drive not to function. He reconnect the dvd drive so it would work properly, and it has worked fine since. He returned the old hard drive and identified that it was unrepairable. He is very knowledgeable and very friendly and it was a good value.

I contacted Mr. Feit on New Year's Day by email and didn't expect to hear anything back until the following week. I received a call within approximately 4 hours asking if he could come by the next day (Friday) to work on it. I was going to be at work so it was scheduled for Saturday instead. He was in and back out within 30 minutes with the issue resolved. He also said to give him a call if the issue came back up and he would come back out without an additional cost.
Description of Work: My brand new computer was not staying connected to the internet. Mr. Feit determined that it had something to do with the way that Comcast was communicating with my computer. I had also just purchased a workstation router so he installed it.

My desktop PC died over the weekend, and I contact Phil. He promptly came over first thing on Monday morning, identified the problem, and provided a couple of replacement memory modules to fix the problem. It was all very painless, quick, and efficient. He also gave a couple of other suggestions while he was here just to be a nice guy. This was a very positive experience and I would definitely use him again in the future.

The entire process went exceptionally well. Mr. Feit was prompt and very helpful. He offered to guide me through our purchase of a new computer before he had actually done any work for me. He is very knowledgeable and responsive.

We had a blinking power light; blogs on the web said it could be fatal. I emailed Fil and received a reply within the hour, with his thoughts on what it might be. We arranged for him to pick up the computer; he did some tests and took it with him, saying he'd try to fix it but if not, he'd get data off the hard drive. He reported shortly thereafter what the problem was (bad power supply); he was only able to find a used replacement, but would guarantee it for a year. He dropped the computer off a week or so later (he was a bit late for the appointment, but it was OK with me), explained what he did, set up the computer, plugged everything back in, tested it to see that it worked and gave me a more-than-fair invoice.

We have 2 computers on a wireless network. Fil came out, and after his quick diagnoses, he figured out the problem, fixed it and made several nice recommendations to alleviate the problem in the future. When I originally called it was a malfunctioning router/modem that was the problem (it needed to be reconfigured and reinstalled after a move). By the time he came the desktop) computer itself was not working. He went online to diagnose the computer problem, fixed it, and then went on to get me back on wireless. He was thoroughly professional and stuck around till I made sure everything was working (including my laptop).
Description of Work: Mr. Feit repaired a malfunctioning computer (reseated the memory chip) and then hooked up the system to a wireless router/modem.

I have a lap top that was running slow because I installed a new Virus Protection and Operating System. Was wanting someone to come up and fix the issue. I emailed this company and they emailed me back right away. He made recommendations that saved a trip. Ultimately I realized my computer was too old and the right thing was to purchase a new computer. This ultimately saved me from loosing my hard drive.

I somehow downloaded the Antivirus XP 2008 virus. My Norton AntiVirus was unable to wipe it off my computer, and the virus had disabled my System Restore function. When I explained the problem to Mr. Feit by e-mail (he was in a location where he wasn't able to receive phone calls), he promptly answered, saying he knew the virus, and was reasonably confident he could eliminate it in under an hour. He was tied up for the next two days, but gave me an estimated arrival time of 4:30-5:00 P.M. on the third day. He arrived at 5:30, installed a spyware killer on my machine, and eliminated the problem within half an hour. He spent extra time to explain what he was doing, and making recommendations on how to improve my computer setup. Later on, after encountering another client with a story similar to mine, he phoned and instructed me to remove an additional program from my computer. I will definitely call him again if I have computer issues.

Technician arrived and of course the machine did not misbehave but he told me what to look for and report to him. He also addressed a laptop problem and told me how to diagnose it. When the Desktop misbehaved again, he came over to work on it and had to take it with him. His diagnosis was a bad solder spot or crack in the mother board. He said that the repair would cost more than the cost of another machine and recommended buying a new machine. The laptop problem was diagnosed as a problem with the display controller and said that it was one we could live with because it was an older back up machine anyway. He spent more than 2 hours plus travel but only charged for one. I insisted on paying for two.
Description of Work: Desktop was rebooting randomly.

I lost my internet connection and didn't know how to get it back. I think I will use him again because I need someone one on one to learn how to troubleshoot my laptop. The day he was to come out he couldn't due to traffic and other complications, so he called me to let me know when he was in traffic to reschedule.
Description of Work: He told me that my modem was broken and needed to be replaced. He spoke w/Cox, my provider and between the two of them, got it connected. Cox had to replace my modem. My "helper" from Cox's was very good.

I contacted Fil by email, just stating my problem and he got back to me ASAP. He came out to pick up my MacBook. I had a Apple MacBook that the hard drive died in and wanted to see if Fil could put a new hard drive in my computer and try and get the old data off of the old hard drive, and install Leopard back one. He replaced the old hard drive I think that is was only 60 GB, and he replaced with a 160 GB hard drive, and I did not know that my Leopard disc was defective. Here's the status: You have a brand new disk. The old one, unfortunately, was unreadable on either your machine or as an external attached to my macbook. After a long while the disk shows up on the desktop, the top level files appear, but no data and the disk is flagged as "unrepairable". I installed Tiger. I tried to install Leopard but the disk has a scratch. One of the reasons I didn't call back yesterday is, I went to an Apple store to see if I could get them to give me a replacement. They wouldn't, but suggested that if you have the receipt and bought it from a store, you could go to any Apple store and they could look up the record and give you the replacement at a low cost or no cost. If not, contact Apple Care with your information and they should send you a disk for basically the copying cost (about a tenth of retail). He also gave me back the old hard drive that was in the my MacBook. Everything worked out fine.
Description of Work: Replace a hard drive in my Apple Macbook since the old died and he also tried to recover data from the old hard drive. He put a better hard drive in the Macbook.

I must have inadvertently permitted 2008 Anti-Virus to load. Every time I turned on the computer it would report that I had x number of viruses, infections, trojans, etc. However, since I already had McAfee security, and because the virus-check led to a request to purchase protection, I was suspicious. Even more so when I realized its icon so closely resembled Microsoft. For a week I ignored, but didn't activate because I was on a massive deadline. However, it worried me so I searched the web and found that it was a virus and further web research led me to download Spy Doctor as a successful means of getting rid of the virus. In mid "fix", everything froze up. I called Computer Ease immediately. Mr. Feit tried to help me via phone. When that did not work, we scheduled an appointment for the next day. He was prompt, courteous, professional and extremely knowledgeable. Within an hour Mr. Feit had identified, accessed and removed all problems. Additionally helped me load up my Microsoft Outlook. I was extremely impressed with Mr. Feit's knowledge and professionalism and would not hesitate to call him for any future computer concerns.
Description of Work: Mr. Feit successfully removed the virus that had caused my computer to lock up. In addition he connected my email to Microsoft Outlook. (I had been using Outlook Express previously.) He also identified and deleted several unnecessary programs while verifying everything was otherwise in good order. In particular he deleted the "Spy Doctor" download as that seemed dubious and/or unneccesary.

Fil diagnosed the problem over the phone, recommending that I install a mouse to get around the problem he diagnosed as a faulty touch pad that apparently is common with older Dell laptops. I bought and installed a mouse and the problem was cured. Although Fil charged me nothing for diagnosing the problem over the phone, I considered it a service rendered, rather than just information provided. On the basis of this experience, I would use him for any other computer problems I encounter and would recommend him to others.
