We are extemely happy with the service from Fannon to replace our A/Cl system on our house. We did a lot of research before choosing Fannon. We first contacted several of the A-graded companies on Angie's list. Fannon was the most price competitive with the best service. Fannon's estimate for a new A/C system (by Tom Fannon, himself) was fair, on time and accurate (some of the other companies tried to sell too large of a system). We did a thorough price comparison, and Fannon's price was the best by several hundred dollars. Fannon's installation workers were on-time, pleasant and did an excellent job. The work area was clean, and they covered the carpet and floor areas that they walked on.

We had our heat pump system replaced at the end of 2010. The old one worked, but we wanted to have a more efficient system and take advantage of the federal tax credit and Virginia rebate. We made our final decision rather last-minute at the end of the year, and Fannon agreed to meet the deadline, which was nice of them. Then they showed up with the wrong equipment. The second time, one of the components didn't work. They managed to get the thing working. At start-up the system makes a really loud noise, which they say is normal. Virginia rejected our application for a rebate because the invoice didn't match the energy efficiency certificate Fannon gave us. Ok. No big deal. Just provide matching paperwork. I've been chasing them for four months to get this paperwork and there is no end in sight. I can tell they are just trying to wear me out so I stop asking for it. The reason we went with them is because they were able to meet the deadline for the rebate. I was really hoping we could recommend them to our friends. In the end, though, they really let us down (and continue to do so). I just hope the equipment keeps working. They seem like nice enough guys. The behind the scenes environment is disorganized and inconsistent. I imagine some people will have a very good experience with them some days. Maybe you'll get them on a good day. We didn't.

Very positive. These guys went out of their way to try to not have to replace the compressor. In the end, it had to be done, but I feel very confident that the compressor did indeed fail after only 7 years and that a less costly fix was not available. Since the A/C konked out during an usual April heat wave, they were very busy and they couldn't do the service call or repair right away. Called monday AM, earliest service all appt was Tues PM. Part not in stock, couldn't make repair until Friday PM. So I had a week of an uncomfortably hot house. Not really the fault of the company. Price was fair. I know Fannon will stand behind thier work--while I am sure I could have found someone to do it a couple of hundred dollars cheaper, it wasn't worth it.

Their pricing was competitive and Warren, who came to do the estimate, was thorough and took time to explain what would work best for our home. He took time to measure interior dimensions, wall thickness, look at our windows, sketch out the existing HVAC configuration, and made some simple suggestions for better airflow. The crew arrived timely and got to work right away. The extra upfront time and thoughtful approach put me at ease when chosing this company.

Our furnace died overnight and we called Fannon at 7:45am. They had someone at our house at 8:30am. The tech diagnosed the problem, called the shop for the part (which was delivered to our house within half an hour) and replaced the furnace's gas bulb. It works great and I didn't have to spend all day waiting around for a repair person. I was also happy that he left the space around the furnace clean. The service was quick and professional. The cost was much lower than expected and I would definitely use them again!

Worst possible service. No explanation, no apology and no thanks. I found Fannon on Angie’s List and contacted them when my furnace was acting up: pilot light wouldn’t stay lit and delayed explosive ignition. Technician arrived promptly and informed me that the boiler was leaking and needed to be replaced. Tom Fannon came the next day to discuss replacement options, said he would get me an estimate the next day (Friday) and would be able to install on Monday, December 20. This was important because I was going out of town for a week beginning Wednesday, 23. When he didn’t get back by Saturday, I called and left a message for him to call me, no response. I called again on Monday. Tom said he would get me a verbal estimate later in the day and a written estimate first thing Tuesday. After he didn´t call back and I heard nothing Tuesday morning I called and talked to the women that schedules work. She didn’t know anything and there was nothing on the schedule. When I explained to her that there should be a written estimate she consulted with someone else and neither could find anything. I left a message again for Tom to call me, he never did. Naturally, by this time I couldn’t find anyone else to install a furnace on short notice so I scheduled an installation with another firm before leaving late on Wednesday. I drained the water pipes so they wouldn’t freeze and left my house without heat. When I got home on the 28th I discovered that Fannon had had no problem getting the bill out for the original service call even though they weren’t capable of doing anything else. On the 29th I got an email job estimate from Fannon for furnace installation, 10 days after it was promised: no explanation and no apology. There service is unacceptable in the extreme.

Our initial call to the Member was on a Friday and we promptly followed up with a visit on Saturday. We could have easily replaced the boiler on Monday with an 80% model we stock, but the Member expressed an interest in higher efficiency models which greatly changed the scope of the replacement and the time required to provide an estimate. In his comments to Angie's List, the Member gives the impression that he wanted a quick solution, but that was not the indication he gave us, instead opting to consider other models and options as he left town rather than going with our initial recommendation which we were ready to install Monday.

I called for bids, TJ Fannon was the second comany I called (the first company, a recognizable name from radio ads, didn't seem to want my business). Fannon gave me the option of replacing a leaking coil in my old compressor for $1500 or replacing with a new compressor with limited warrantee for $2495. I went with the new unit. Everything went swimmingly, they were there that day and very professional. Getting on my roof was no problem and no extra charge (unlike the other company I called). I would definitely use them again.

I received an estimate from this company and it came in competitively with the other estimates I solicited. I ended up going with another company, because of the brand of the unit. My rating and comment is for the customer service I received even though I did not end up using this company. My brand new heat pump (indoor and outdoor unit) was installed in June 2010 and recently, my tenants found water bubbling up from the floor. The indoor unit had frozen! (Maybe I should have gone with Fannon's estimate) Wanting a second opinion, I called Tom Fannon, because I remembered at the time when I originally asked for an estimate he was friendly and cordial (I made notes on the estimate). When I called, I left a message with the operator and within half an hour received a call back. He did not know if his company had installed before returning my call. He gave me expert advice on the probable cause of the unit freezing and was helpful and cordial even though I did not use his company for any of the services they provide.

We called T.J. Fannon, because we needed to service our house oil furnace, we bought the house in the fall, when spring came we decided to have the oil furnace cleaned, TJ gave us an estimate of $250.00 to clean up the oil furnace and since the previous owners used to use TJ we decided that it was better to have them do the service because they were probably more familiar with the system, the technicians came to perform the clean up, and he scraped of residues on the inside of the furnace, instead on vacuuming the residues he ran the furnace and black residues got all over the place thru the air ducts and the vents, over furniture, expensive electronic (computers), carpet, tile floor, ETC it was a nightmare. We contacted TJ and they told us that it was our fault for not having the furnace clean up every year; our answer was that they had the records of the furnace since they install it originally in the house and they even sent us a post card welcoming us as new home owners, so they knew that we didn’t own the house for too long, we asked to have our house cleaned, they sent a crew that all they did was give us a bad attitude and spread the black residues all over the place, we ask Mr. Fannon to have our house cleaned up by professionals and he refuse to come up to an agreement. We end up paying for a company to come a clean our house, clean up the air ducts, wash the carpet, steam clean our expensive Italian tile floor, we end up paying a fortune to the cleaning company because our insurance refused to pay for the cleaning, claiming that it was TJ Fannon responsibility to clean up their mess. A few days later after the incident we got an invoice for $600.00 in the mail from TJ Fannon, not $250.00 like they estimated, Mr. Fannon ask me to never call his company again and hang up the phone after I told him that I was going pay for the invoice if he was willing to pay to my $8,000.00 cleanup bill from Servpro. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PEOPLE, I can’t believe that they have good rating at Angie’s List, you should check their rating at better business bureau!

Response from T J Fannon & Sons
Our company last serviced this furnace in 2006. On April 2nd, 2010 we found the equipment in a neglected, inoperable condition. On that day, a few parts were replaced and a significant amount of time was spent vacuuming the built up soot from inside the furnace. When the furnace was first fired, soot began to blow out of the ducts. My mechanic shut down the furnace and found a substantial build up of soot in the ductwork as well. The customer was advised to leave the furnace off and have the ducts cleaned and contact us for a return visit once tha twas done. The bill for that work came to $300, not $600 as stated by the customer. We were called for a return visit the next day and my mechanic found the furnace running and soot continuing to blow from the ducts. The customer had not had the ducts cleaned and ran the furnace against our advice. Prior to our visit in April this furnace had been run for a long time without any service and it showed. It is rare that this type of soot escapes the furnace and fills the ductwork, but it does happen. Unless a customer gives us some indication of dirt or soot coming from the vents, inspection of the interior of the ductwork is not a part of routine maintenance. Upon first discovering the buildup in the ducts, we shut the system down. It was the customer's decision to continue running the furnace that led to the necessity for further cleanup. The customer stated his dissatisfaction with our service, and while we declined his request to cover the cleanup costs, we did waive the charges for the work we did to return his furnace to working order.

Very positive experience with a long-term, reputable company. Employees were running late, but they called in advance to let us know when they would be there and showed up on time. The employees were very knowledgeable of heating/cooling systems and spotted incorrect wiring immediately. They were able to perform simple wiring repairs and other small repairs in 1 hour "fixing" our heating/cooling systems for the house when 2 other contractors gave outrageous quotes for incorrect diagnoses. Their invoice was received 2 days later for their services. I would definitely hire TJ Fannon and Sons again and recommend them with no hesitation. They are scheduled to come out to perform the fall service call in October, as they are our "preferred" HVAC repair company after dealing with 2 other unimpressive contractors in the area. Pricing is very competitive (by the hour) and employees work quickly.
Description of Work: Hooked up the wiring from the a/c unit to the thermostat, checked the wiring and condition of the HVAC units, re-wired the connections to "fix" the 2 heating/cooling systems in the house. Gave recommendations to make the servicing of the HVAC filters easier, double-checked the condition of the units and accessories to recommend next date of service and generally fixed our heating/cooling systems in an hour.

I used Angie's List to find an HVAC company with a good reputation, and I couldn't be happier with TJ Fannon. Every interaction we've had has been courteous, professional, and respectful of our time and resources (and as a stay-at-home mom with three kids under the age of 2 1/2, I appreciate it!). I wish I could remember the names of the engineers who came out to help us when we needed a new humidifier and when our heater stopped working over Christmas--they deserve to be commended for being so responsive and helpful when I'm sure it was a huge inconvenience. I'd recommend them to any homeowner.

I rearranged my schedule to be home between 8 and 12 AM to await the technician. No one had ever called about whether I could get an estimate on duct work at the same time. So I called about 8:30 AM to see if they could give me a sense of when to expect the technician. First, the receptionist could not find the ticket and indicated that there might not even be a service call. She put me on hold, then hung up on me. When I called back I was placed on hold again. Eventually she came back and said they "would fit me in," indicating that I never had an appointment in the first place. Her demeanor was as though she was doing me a favor. I asked about the duct work and was finally told they don't do cleaning. I asked about whether someone could give me an estimate on duct work, she said she didn't know, and that Fannon himself would have to call me, which is exactly what she said over a week ago. When I expressed dismay at all of this, she got angry and yelled "Ma'am, would you please be quiet!" I hung up on her, because I couldn't believe she would talk to a customer that way. I called another firm to set up the work, then called Fannon back to cancel (even though it wasn't clear they ever made the appointment). I explained what had happened to the other person who answered the phone, and that person seemed genuinely sorry for my experience. However, 2 minutes later I got a phone call from someone I believe is in management there. He was not apologetic and instead made excuses for why the receptionist was so rude. He did not see it as a problem that I had been told I would get a call and never did. He was pretty rude himself, and not gracious in the least, so I think there is just a culture of contempt for customers there, and a very disorganized system of making (and losing) appointments. I have no idea as to the quality of the work, because I prefer not to give business to people who appear so disorganized and who can't be gracious when they screw up.
Description of Work: I called with three concerns: 1) to schedule routine service on my furnace; 2) to inquire about duct cleaning; 3) to inquire about having duct work moved. The appointment was scheduled for several days later, but the receptionist was not able to tell me whether they cleaned duct work (!), and she said that someone would have to call me to set up getting an estimate on moving duct work. I asked whether the appointments could be combined, and she said she didn't know, that someone would call me.

Response from T J Fannon & Sons
T.J. Fannon and Sons did have an appointment set up for this member on the date in question, but as this was the first time we had done business and we weren't certain which angle the work would take - whether we'd be doing duct work or just service or both - an account in her name had not been set up in our computer. We refer to these type of appointments as "hand written tickets" and at the time the member telephoned us a technician and a duct work specialist were on their way to her home. Before my customer service representative had a chance to determine that the men were on their way (and it only took a few minutes for her to find out) she grew very impatient and canceled the appointment. Tom Fannon called her to apologize and explain why there was some confusion, but she seemed intent on remaining upset and repeatedly threatened us with "I'm going to report this to Angie's List!"

We selected T.J. Fannon's proposal from three proposals that we solicited. They were very patient in describing the proposed new system and answering questions. Their price was competitive. The management, office staff and crew were all pleasant to deal with. They modified the proposal slightly per our request after researching the air conditioners that qualified for a tax credit. They provided the manufacturer's certification for the tax credit. The work was scheduled very quickly and all the work was done efficiently. They had to recut the opening in the ceiling drywall to accommodate a different size intake vent. All the old equipment and debris were removed from the house acceptably. The only small problem we had was that the day the drywall work was completed it was raining and the crew failed to bring in floor covering to protect the wood and carpet flooring from the wet shoes and construction debris. We noted the problem twice until an adequate solution was found by the contractor. After that, there was no problem. The system worked all summer without a problem.

Just moved into a new(old) house. First time I turned on the furnace it would not work. Called the above named company based on proximity to my house. They were here in less than an hour after initial phone call. Although they do not carry the parts for my furnace in stock, I had a call from them approximately 3 hours after the initial visit scheduling installation for the very next day. The furnace works great. I have to mention the technician (Jerry) was outstanding. He was professional, friendly and informative. If I need to call them again...I have a water heater that is on borrowed time...I would use this company and ask for Jerry again.
