Working with Rob, I was able to select an appropriate product and have it installed in under one week. Rob was very knowledgeable in flooring and was able to get me a floor that worked perfectly in the room and for a great price! The installers were prompt, professional and did a great job installing the floor. They left the area as neat as a pin. This is the second time I have used Rick's for flooring and I plan on using them for all of my future flooring needs!

Rick's was very helpful during the selection process, including an on-site inspection and loaning samples to help with the type of carpet and color. They competitively priced our final choice and promptly ordered the carpet and set up an installation date. The installation crew arrived on time and they got right to work removing the old carpet and padding. They were professional and efficient throughout the installation. They had to move heavy furniture and did so without incident. We were very pleased that we hired a professional company that delivered what was promised. There was a minor problem on a set of stairs. We called to make Rick's aware of the problem and they dispatched an installer the same day who corrected the problem. We were well satisfied with the entire process and will recommend the sales team and installation crew to any of our friends who are looking for flooring.

, #The plan was to have the floors put in before my scheduled move in date. My original flooring company notified me that they could not install a floor until after 10/3. I called Rick's and they scheduled Jerry to come the next day to measure and bring samples based on my description. The quote was less then the original quote. I thought the engineered hardwood that I ordered was click-in place, but they were tongue and groove and needed to be individually hand glued. My floors were installed by a craftsman, not someone who just put the floors in. The devil is in the details and I have had more compliments on how nice the floors look and how they were finished. Dave had to work around the movers bringing my furniture in. There was little or no dust left around the condo when the job was complete.

Initially the arrangement started off well because I had a very helpful and knowledgeable sales person named Rick help me in the store as I looked a the various options. Things then started to get a bit shaky but this story has a happy ending so keep reading! The carpet was installed first. Things went well until I got home before it was completed and noticed that there were two different colors of carpets in the master bedroom. I contacted the store via phone and also sent them photos. They were very responsive and understanding. I was especially impressed that I did not have to argue with them about the issue. They ordered new carpeting and contacted me when the excellent carpeting team lead by Deltoro would arrive to rip out the old carpet and install the new. They did an excellent job installing the carpet both times, but I think they were extra careful as they installed the replacement carpet which luckily was all the same color this time. The wood floor installation was next. The flooring was installed and I was very disappointed because of all the gaps between the wood planks, and the chipped edges around the door frame next to the guest bathroom and overall was not happy with the 40% of the work that had been completed. I contacted the store (basically I contacted the sales rept/Rob when I got home from work) and explained to him how poorly the work had been done and again sent him photos via cell phone so he could see what I meant. Again it was a very nice surprise not to be questioned about the issue as though I was being overly picky but to have the store understand and support my request. So they said they would start over from scratch. Yippee!! They sent over the new wood flooring and a new crew (better crew) led by Won. Won and his team did an excellent job installing the wood. I was impressed with their attention to detail and professionalism. They did a great job. Did it all in one day too. Will get tile installed from Ricks again in the future and will ask for Won and his crew. Selling the flooring was the easy part for the store I think but the real deal breaker is the type of crew or technical teams they send out to do the installation. This is where they could really damage their reputation if they are not careful. All in all this turned out well and I am very pleased with the work and service.

Will amend reviews after installation and signed off on all work and quality. UPDATE: great job on install, 3 workers roughly 5 hrs over 1000' of carpet with padding removal of old carpet and pad.... new tack strips cleaned up afterward very nice job!
Description of Work: So far just selection and purchase of roughly 1000+ feet /plus 8lb padding of Karastan Smart Strand carpet for our home. Have used Ricks in the past and the sales aspect of this was very good. No pushy sales tactics, went over the styles, the different fibers, the warranties, the density of each and gave us the time to decide exactly what we wanted. The Install is yet to come but i do like the idea of them having their own installers. Several other companies made it clear that they were carpet retailers only and if there was a problem with install we would have to deal with the separate company that installed it? This is a NO_NO in my book. Everyone sells roughly the same carpet brands it's the installation that really matters DON'T use a third party, no name, Kinkos business card installer. With Ricks you deal with one person that oversees the whole process from start to finish. Rob was our sales person, our measurement person and full point of contact...so far very happy with the process.Contract includes: remove/haul old carpet, move/replace furniture, install 1020' with 8lb pad new Karastan top end 25 year/lifetime warranty on various aspects of the carpet. Breaks down to about $4.84 a square foot installed.

The prices for carpeting were in line with Lowe's (a little cheaper even). They were extremely helpful in picking out styles and providing a quick estimate for the work. The hardwoods in the bedroom had been painted by a previous owner and Rick's came out (twice) because they had concerns about being able to refinish them well. They warned me that it would take longer and cost a little more since paint is hard to get off (extra sand paper, trying to scrape the cracks out) and that it was possible that there would be residual paint between the cracks. The wood floors took two half days and luckily the floors were in good condition under the paint, so very little residual issue. They also replaced the quarter round trim. The carpet took a half day as well. We removed all furniture, but I believe they would have moved furniture for a small fee. Like with any contractor, you have to be your own advocate for scheduling and making sure you get replies back - but they were extremely accomodating and helpful whenever I called.
Description of Work: Rick's provided two services, they installed new carpeting in our basement (~400 sq feet) and refinished the wood floors in a bedroom (~200 sq feet).

The show room experience was pleasant. We were promptly greeted, shown to the appropriate location in the show room, and then left alone to debate our options (rather than hovering anxiously). When we had questions, they reappeared to answer us. There was a smooth hand-off between the initial person who greeted us, and the staff member who wrote up our order--at no point did we feel lost in the shuffle, or neglected. Everyone we talked to was knowledgeable and courteous. The whole experience conveyed that our time was valuable, and our custom appreciated. The measuring crew showed up on time, the estimate was emailed to us within a few days, and our order was placed promptly. There was email follow-up letting us know the order had been placed and providing an estimated delivery date. The carpet arrived as promised, and was installed on schedule (just in time for Thanksgiving). The crew did a good job and cleaned up after themselves.

We were recommended Ricks Carpeting by some friends, unfortunately we had a different experience than they did. In summary, USE ANOTHER DEALER: - we were given an initial estimate by Marlon which was excellent ($1200), we had them measure our place for a final estimate and returned to the store to confirm - we found out that Marlon was "fired" and they said their prices changed to double the original estimate ($2400). After attempting to negotiate and getting nowhere, we decided to look elsewhere. - after some searching we found out that the delivery at other dealers was longer than we liked, so decided to try Ricks again. - surprisingly Marlon was rehired and gave us an estimate which was reasonable ($1800). Lowes had the same exact deal, same price, but delivery was a few weeks longer so we begrudgingly went along w/ Ricks. - the installer completed the job, but left an area unfinished. - When asked to have it finished they said it would cost an additional $150 for a very small area, less than 1 sq ft. Given the overall poor experience, the inconsistencies in estimates, etc, I asked them to waive the fee, or at least meet me halfway in between. To my surprise, not only would they not budge, but they were defensive, combative, and completely unprofessional. - I asked where Marlon was at the end so we could speak with him but he got fired again! In conclusion, these guys were unprofessional from the get go without a sense of customer service. I own a business, and when I make a mistake, no matter how small, I always compensate people or at least be kind about it. At the end I told them that their attitude would in fact probably lose them business, and the manager said he would talk to the owner and get back to me. He never called me back! That was the last straw. I hope this review convinces you to use someone else. If you have no problems, you will probably think they are decent, but if there are any hiccups at all along the way, they will not work with you at all!

Response from Rick's Carpet & Flooring
Member purchased carpet from Rick's Carpet and Flooring back in August and had it installed on August 6th. Upon completion, the Member signed off on the install as well as left a comment. *See Sign Off under the portfolio tab* He stated, "Looks Great!" Rick's Carpet & Flooring has a Sign Off sheet that our installer goes over with each customer upon completion. This confirms that the job has been completed. In October, we receive a call from Mr. Gupta stating that the installation was incomplete. This was concerning considering the job had been completed two months ago. The Service Department contacted the installer to go over with him what had been stated by the Member. Our installer told us that it had been completed. Rick's Carpet & Flooring has a Life-Time Installation Warranty on all of our installs, so we sent our installer anyway out to inspect the situation. Upon arrival, our installer noticed right away that the threshold had been removed, revealing a gap between the carpet that we installed and the hardwood (which had not been installed by Rick's). When Rick's installer oringinally came to install the carpet, there had been a threshold in place that our installer finished the carpet off to. (Proper installation procedure) Apparently the Member didn't like the threshold and had it removed. When the installer revealed it wasn't his fault, he called to let Rick's know. Our Service Department then contacted the Member explaining that this was a service call and there would be a charge of $150.00. Typically it is a $250.00 charge, but because the Member had been a repeat customer and a referral from another customer we gave him a break on the price. At that time, the Member agreed to that charge and Rick's proceeded with what the Member requested from us. Two days later, we receive another call from the Member. He was upset with the charge and then told us if we do not give him a refund, he would put a bad review on Angie's List. Member's Credit Card company agreed with us that this in fact was a legitimate charge. We remain desirous to help the Member in any way possible. We believe we have the best installers in the D.C metropolitan area. I can assure you that our customers come first, but a workman is worthy of his hire.

Received assistance in finding appropriate carpet within our price range. Was informed of special pricing and current offers. Worked within my timeframe to get rooms measured and carpet installed before our movers arrived with our furniture. Installers were very professional and courteous -- asking for my preferences and offering suggestions as they worked on installing the carpet. Very positive experience and very satisfied with the results.

The worst service experience I have ever had. Everything went very well during the sales part -- salesman was very helpful, responded quickly to my questions, gave me itemized estimates and quick revisions, came in at my budget. However the installation was a complete nightmare. I had been repeatedly assured that the installation could be done in one day since it is a small townhouse. Workers showed up at 10:30 and asked me what they were supposed to do – I asked if he had read the work order and he shrugged. So I showed him the samples of cream colored pile for the bedrooms and same color berber for the hallway and stairs. They got to work and told me at 2 that they were going to get lunch. They were gone for 3 hours, claiming their van had broken down. I had already called the service manager and she said she knew nothing about the van. I was very concerned that this was not going to be completed in one day as promised and certainly not after they showed up at 5 and told me that they had to leave at 5:45 because one of the crew needed to pick up his child at day care. I insisted to the service manager that they send another crew to finish. So another crew shows up around 5:40 and there is some kind of hand off of carpet; I show the new crew the samples and what goes where. But it is starting to rain so they move all the furniture in my living room so they can cut there. At this point both I and my dog are stressed out as the house is completely disassembled so we go into the kitchen with the door shut since that was the only place to be out of the way. At about 8:30, I come out to find that they are installing the wrong carpet on the stairs – black industrial style instead of cream berber! At this point I was so angry I was beside myself. The salesman was very apologetic and said the president would call me the next day and they would find out what happened to the correct carpet. The crew chief planned on leaving without reassembling at least one of the bedrooms so I had no place to sit, sleep or bathe since the bathrooms were full of lamps, etc. I burst into tears and begged him to help me put the bed together. The final installation took place two days later (because of my work schedule) and went from 9 to 3:30, so clearly this was never a one day job. I will not go in into the hassle about paying the balance, which I thought should be reduced because of the incredibly poor service and inconvenience except to say I received no fewer than 6 dunning phone calls over the next few days. And no one from management ever called me although the service manager insisted on sending a candy basket to my office on the day after the first installation fiasco! My colleagues appreciated it. My advice – stay as far away from Rick’s as you can.

I went to Rick's because I wanted to use a local dealer and they received decent reviews on Angie's list. I wanted to purchase tile and installation for my two small bathrooms, including one shower, as well as my small kitchen. I also already own hardwoord flooring for my approximately 500 sq. ft living room, and requested a quote for installation of the wood flooring. Originally, I wanted an easy experience, didn't want to shop around and deal with getting lots of quotes, and decided that I would use Rick's as long as the quote was reasonable. Unfortunately, I have had a very negative experience with getting a quote from Rick's, and am now shopping elsewhere. I originally went into the store in early August, and initially had very good customer service from Rob. He helped explain the differences in tile, looked up prices, and let me borrow some tile samples. A gentleman from Rick's then came out to take measurements for a free estimate. I explained everything we wanted to have done, and he confirmed that Rick's would be able to install my pre-purchased hardwood flooring. Several days later I got a call from Rob that my quote was ready. I came in to the the store on a Saturday to get the quote and finalize my tile selection, and was told that Rob was on vacation and my quote was not ready. The salesperson looked around Rob's desk and found the measurements for my home, but no quote. I was told to come back on Monday, and when I did once again they looked around in a stack on papers on a desk and told me that my quote was not ready. The salesperson called Rob, and they promised that he would call me the next day with a quote. On Tuesday a lady named Lucia called me asking for additional information. After asking me to repeat all the information about what we wanted done that I had already given Rob and the gentleman who took the measurements, Lucia told me that Rick's would not install my pre-purchased hardwood flooring, even though the person who took the measurements said they would. It seemed that she had no information about what I wanted done. She also said she would write up the estimate and call me the next day. At this point, it has been more than 1.5 weeks since I last spoke with Lucia, and I have not heard a thing from Rick's and have given up. This experience was frustrating for several reasons: 1) It has been over a month and I have not received a quote yet, despite going in to the store over 4 times, having someome come out to take measurements, and having 3 phone conversations. 2) While Rob and the other salespeople were courteous, it seemed that no one communicated, documented, or shared information about my job because I was asked to repeat the same information every time I talked to someone new, and was told different things by different people (big differences- like whether or not they would install my pre-purchased hardwood flooring). When I went in to the store it seemed like all their customer quote information was kept on papers piled on a desk. Communication was very poor between the sales reps. Better, more consistent training and a simple computer system or better paper filing system would do wonders for keeping track of customers' quote requests and make sure that reps are consistent in their communications with customers. 3) I was looking for a simple experience with my local flooring store and wasn't even price shopping. All Rick's had to do was provide a quote in a timely manner. This experience has been anything but simple and stress-free, and I am extremely disappointed in Rick's and would not recommend them to anyone. If it is this hard to get a quote and hear back from Rick's, I would be very hesitant to actually purchase their materials and services.
Description of Work: I went to Rick's looking for an estimate on ceramic tile flooring and installation for two small bathrooms, a small kitchen, and tile for one shower. Additionally, I requested a quote for installation of about 500 sq. ft. of hardwood flooring in my living room. I already own the hardwood flooring, so the quote was for installation-only.

Ricks carpet was fantastic from start to finish. They sent a friendly service agent out to measure the space, were very helpful in showing lots of carpeting options, and showed up on time to install the carpet and did a wonderful job. The prices were great, we were quoted about the same if not a little more from two other companies for very similar carpet. Even though we ended up going with a relatively expensive carpet we were never pressured into it - the salesmen explained the differences between the various carpets and pointed us to great options in different price points. We went with a great Eco-friendly and super soft SmartStrand carpet and we absolutely love it. We wanted to get the carpet installed fast because we wanted it in before our big moving day, even though that was just four days after we chose to go with them - they got it installed on the Saturday before out Sunday move. The group of guys showed up early in the day and on time and they did a really great job. The carpet looked great when they installed it and has been perfect since then, we've had no problems at all. They also fixed a creak in the floor, which was a great help. I would certainly recommend them and use them again.
Description of Work: We wanted to replace the carpets on the top floor in our new house and had three companies come out to measure the space and provide estimates. Ricks came out the next day to do the measurements and had an estimate to us before one company had an opening to do the measurements and far before the other two companies had estimates. We went to the showroom and picked out several options. We went with Ricks and they took away the old carpet and installed a new pad and carpeting in three bedrooms a hallway and a staircase.

I had contracted with Rick's a couple of years ago for carpet installation, and was pleased with their service and carpet, so I contacted them for an estimate to replace flooring in a small laundry room, foyer area and powder room. I had researched the flooring and they had a sample of the floor I wanted in their store. I scheduled a measurement appointment a couple of days later. The gentleman who came to take the measurements was pleasant, on time and had his sales rep follow up with pricing as promised the next day. We discussed the options of the process -- applying the new floor over the existing, removing the old floor, pricing, etc. Rick's pricing and projected installation time was in line with other estimates I received. Ultimately, I selected another company which had been recommended by my contractor, but I would consider using Rick's again in the future.
Description of Work: On this date, an employee from Rick's came to measure the laundry room, powder room and foyer area in order to replace the existing vinyl floor. We discussed options regarding the edging and how the work would proceed. The next day I received a call from a sales rep to further discuss options and pricing.

Rick's was great. The salesman was knowledgeable and courteous, and never pressured me. He came to my home and took measurements, and gave me lots of options to consider. When I went to the showroom, he was patient, and let me take my time looking through samples, even walking on them in bare feet. He explained the different prices and grades of carpet and padding, and he was open and honest at all times. He was easily reachable by phone, and responsive to messages, leading up to install day, on install day, and after. The carpet looks great, and I would absolutely use Rick's again.

They are ok. The guy that did the job was good. But, the sales person was not very knowledgeable. I would recommend them for the price, but not for the overall feeling. Maybe, if they got a different sales person. I think the person that came over, and check for the job or looked at what needed to be done, needs more training or just started, he missed the best part.

We had visited a few carpet stores before we went to Rick's and met Jonathan who talked to us about the room we wanted flooring in , how we would be using the room and helped us determine what would be best for us - he then talked to us about the different grades and padding options. We went with the Luxury grade with thick padding since this will be a barefoot / lay on the floor type of room. We went back twice for additional color options as we evaluated painting and what we would do with the room. The Tuesday night we took possession of the new house Jonathan came over for the measurements, we talked about options on the stairs (decided to not redo carpet since would like to later redo in wood) and I had him measure my loft area incase we want to change the carpet there later (easier to measure before furniture in place. He called right there to put a hold on the carpet to make sure it was in stock and told it would be in on Friday and they could install anytime after that. We had other work (ceiling and painting ) to be done before carpet so they held on until we were ready and then were able to install the next day after I called. the installer showed up on time, and cleaned up and locked up when he was done. He verified to see if anyone else would be coming to house (wanted to make sure to not let anyone else in unless they were expected). The carpet looks WONDERFUL and completely livens up the room - so glad we did this at move in.

I visited Rick's Flooring on a whim as I was driving to Lowes to check out carpet options. The service from the moment I walked in was very attentive and professional, and not pushy. They were patient, understood my budget, and offered me a variety of options in my price range. We worked with Marlon and Robert and both of them were great. We ended up getting some great carpet that is stain resistant and still very soft and lush. Further, the installer was great - he was on-time, very professional, and there was not one scratch or mark on my newly painted walls. We visited other local carpet and flooring establishments recommended on Angie's List, and there was no comparison in service, quality in carpet, or price to Rick's. We would definitely go back to Rick's for our carpet needs. -Shejal Carpenter

I contacted Rick's Carpet and Flooring based on their great Consumers Checkbook rating, and they came out and measured my bathrooms. I visited the showroom which was very impressive, and picked out my tile so they could give me an accurate cost estimate. The turnaround time for the estimate was very quick, but I wanted to make sure I was making the best decision and got a few other estimates from other companies as well. Rick's was by a decent margin the most competitively-priced company, so they earned my business. From the day I gave the company the green light to move forward with install, they were at my house the very next week. My wife and I just had our first newborn baby, and I scheduled the install on a Thursday (my last day before going back to work). That morning I got a call saying that my tile had been lost and wasn't loaded on the truck, and thus install was not going to be achieved that day. I was irate because any other day they wanted to do this meant I wasn't going to be home to answer any questions the installers had. They wanted to push it to the following week but after complaining they managed to get us on the schedule for the very next day. Unfortunately I still had to go to work and had to leave my poor wife all alone with our newborn for the first time ever as a stranger was in our house banging away at things that prevented the baby from sleeping. It was definitely an inconvenience. Furthermore, I was told by two different people that install would be accomplished in one day, when in fact it took two. This didn't bother me so much because the installer explained the process and if we wanted the job done right, it would take two days. He appeared to be looking out for our best interest so this wasn't considered an inconvenience for us but rather a sign of wanting to get the job done right. All in all we are happy with Rick's with exception of the delay in the install (which frankly I'm not sure was Rick's fault in the first place). We intend on redoing our master bathroom and I will use Rick's for that as well.

The initial visits to Rick's were great - the salesman that we were working, Ian, with was very responsive and friendly. The actual installation was fast and looked good. The problems arose after the job was completed. Before leaving, the installers had us sign final paperwork and indicate how we would like payment to be completed, and we provided a credit card number on the form. A few weeks later, a different Rick's employee called to say that we had an installation that was not yet scheduled. It was a different salesman than the one we had worked with (Ian), who (according to the new salesman) had not been there for a few weeks. We played phone tag for a week, but I finally spoke with someone to confirm that we did indeed have the carpet installed. I returned a call from Rick's but said they were not in the office and so did not have any of the paperwork available in front of them. Then at work this morning, I received a call from the manager at Rick's, and he immediately jumped to threatening to bring me to court tomorrow. His tone was extremely aggressive and accusatory - he treated me like garbage. I assured him that we did have the job completed, that we had every intention and means of completing the payment, that I would talk to my fiance because there was no reason for this to be an issue. In the calls between Rick's and me, a balance on our account was NEVER brought up until today. A few minutes after this threatening call, my fiance followed up with the manager and the final balance was indeed charged to the card that we had specified originally - this matter, if addressed professionally, should only have taken 2 minutes to address in the first place. In short, they installed the carpet, then misplaced our installation paperwork, and after confirming with me that the installation was done, jumped to the threat of taking us to court. I'm sure that the manager will try to dismiss this since they tried to reach out to me, and that I never returned their call, but I did indeed speak with a representative at Rick's and the balance in payment was NEVER brought up before the threatening call this morning. It was unprofessional, and I did not enjoy being treated like garbage for their mistake. I understand wanting a completed payment for the job, but it is another matter entirely to jump to such unprofessional behavior.

Response from Rick's Carpet & Flooring
Member, I’d like to apologize on behalf of Rick’s Carpet and Flooring for any miscommunication you may have experienced with us. As a company we value our customers first, and aim to provide the best service experience. In this instance there was a lack of communication on the salesman’s part, who is no longer with us. After reading your comment, I now understand why you disregarded our several follow-up calls to collect payment: because you assumed the matter was taken care of. Our attempts to understand and resolve the billing issue were in no way meant to be threatening and I sincerely apologize if you felt that way. Our billing policies are put in place to protect the future of our business, but not at the expense of the customer’s experience. Again, I’d like to thank you for your business and I hope you enjoy your beautiful carpet. -Sincerely, James Puryear, Owner

We were very satisfied with the carpet quality. They had a large selection of carpet. The salesman that we worked with was excellent and did not pressure us. The installers are their own installers, they do not subcontract them out. The installers were very, very good. The head installer was Henry. He led the team while they were installing the carpet. They were clean, polite, and professional. They explained things to me that I did not understand. I was very impressed overall with the store, the salesman, and the installers.
Description of Work: They installed new carpet, and we also bought some rugs from them.

After our basement flooded and the carpets were ruined, I contacted Rick's Carpet to have new carpet installed.I can honestly say, the experience was very pleasant. The salesman in the showroom was very helpful and patient with me. Given that it was a low cost job, I was treated with the outmost courtesy and respect. The carpet was ordered in a timely manner and I was given a prompt installation date. The carpet was installed on time and even followed up with customer service, to assure my satisfaction. On installation day, I was pleasantly surprised. The installers were very professional and courteous. The carpet was installed in a timely manner and they cleaned up after themselves.I would recommend Rick's Carpet to anyone for its value, quality of work and service.
