Description of Work: Rick's carpet took up the wall to wall carpet in my bedroom and refinshed the hard wood floor. They also installed an area rug in the bedroom. The service was fast and efficient and the workers were excellent.

Description of Work: Sold and installed new wall-to-wall carpet on entire second floor of our house. Excellent job.

Description of Work: I was very pleased with the professionalism and workmanship of Rick's Carpet and Flooring. They installed carpeting on 2 stairwells and a family room. They were timely, professional at all times, and tidy. I would definitely recommend and use them again. Thank you!

Description of Work: Removed wall to wall carpet and installed engineered wood and baseboard in Living Room, Dining Room, Foyer, Hallway and Utility area.

Description of Work: The carpet installation was fine. The installers did a very god job. The problem came with the wood flooring. We were notified 2 days before promised delivery that the flooring ordered was out of stock. The flooring was delivered 2 weeks later and installed. The sales person by the way was not longer employed by this time. Once the install was completed we notice that the divider between wood vinyl was higher (about two inches) going into the kitchen. We were never able to get them to correct. We later had issues with cleaning the wood, but again were not satisfied with their response.

Description of Work: We had Jonathan from Rick's do measurement and give us an estimate. We are not ready for installation--but they will do it when we are ready. Our son had used Rick's in prior years which is why we went back to them. We are very satisfied with their work. They have their own crews do installation rather than hire persons for the job--which is a far better system. When they have completed the work I will comment further.

Description of Work: Ricks Flooring did our wood, ceramic, and carpet installation in various areas of my home. The installation was done beautifully, the installers were extremely friendly and I felt completely at ease being home alone with them and my small children. I fully expected for there to be small hiccups in the project, because that is just how it goes when it comes to home renovation and installations..however, I had none with Ricks. If there were any issues, they worked fast and furiously to take care of it before I even noticed. I have read some of the other comments, and to be honest, I am very surprised. It almost seems as though they are referring to another company. Having worked in property management, I have experience with many contractors and installers, and Ricks is, by far, the best experience I've had. I know that Ricks has been an integral part of the community and it was a pleasure to work with this family-oriented company.

Description of Work: I popped into Rick's Carpet & Flooring just to see if perhaps they might have the bathroom floor tile we were looking for at a lower price than another store in Old Town Alexandria. I was greeted as I walked in by Rob, who asked how he could help (when you're used to Lowe's and Home Depot, just that offer of help is a great start!), and when I described the unusual tile I was looking for, he took me straight through their rows and rows of carpet, hardwood, and tile selections to a tile that was extremely similar to the tile I had seen and wanted at another store. However, the selection at Rick's was 1/2 the price and was of comparable excellent quality! I was astonished. I was also in a bit of a hurry as my bathroom contractor had been lined up and was to start demolition of our 1st bathroom. Instead of the 14 days the other store had quoted, Rob said that he could have it into the store within a week, and sure enough, it came in sooner. The tile is beautiful and will look lovely in our new bathrooms! Rick's sold me the tile, but I did not have their team install it, as my bathroom contractor will handle that along with all the other work they are doing.

Description of Work: The representative from Ricks Carpet and Flooring came to do the measurement for laminate on time and as scheduled. He seemed very profesional, brought samples for me to choose and recommended refinishing the wood floors. Unfortunately, we could not use them because he never submitted his estimate.

Description of Work: Here's what happened (the content of my original report from 5/5/08): "I spent about an hour and a half working with a salesperson, who was very friendly and charming, but I suspect not very honest. In retrospect there were several red flags that I missed. My salesperson, Colin Choney, was extremely reluctant to give me pricing information. It was like pulling teeth, trying to find out the material cost vs. the installation cost, delivery charge, etc. He kept punching numbers into his handheld calculator when I asked him things like how much of that is labor? In retrospect I think it was all a scam. I finally obtained verbal quotes of $7.73/sq ft installed ($1.70/sq ft was labor cost) for Marmoleum sheeting and $4.40/sq ft installed for carpet. I arranged for them to do measurements and let them take a $100 deposit. Well, after the measurements were done, I was shocked that my estimate for Marmoleum sheeting went from $7.73/sq ft to $27/sq ft (yes, twenty-seven dollars/sq ft). What was going to be around $2300 turned into a $8,000 job. My estimate for Marmoleum plank was for over $9800! Granted, there were a few little things included in the estimate that I had not asked for, but they certainly cannot account for a $6,000 to $8,000 discrepancy. I happen to know the exact square footage of the areas in question, as my entire house was flooded and I have all the measurements taken by my insurance agent. These also take into account the excess carpet needed to make up for wastage. The carpet estimate wasn't nearly as outrageous, but it was still about 10% higher than the price I was given when I was in the showroom. After I received these estimates I went with another company; I bought essentially the same carpet (same manufacturer and material) for way less, and I didn't get hassled. The other company was completely upfront about the installed price. What I'm looking for is a refund of my $100 deposit. I never would have agreed to it if I'd had any idea that the estimate would be so far off from the price I was quoted in the showroom." 3/16/09: I am updating my report to say that I recently received a phone call from Jeff, the owner. He was very apologetic and told me that that Colin Choney no longer works for him. He has given me a refund of my $100 deposit. I am satisfied with Jeff's response to my complaint but given my experiences, would be reluctant to recommend this company to others.

Description of Work: I needed a rug cut down to fit in my new house. It's a wool/sisal blend with fabric binding and a latex backing, so I wasn't sure anyone would be willing to take it on.

Description of Work: We have used Rick's on two occasions: laminate flooring over concrete slab to replace carpet in one room of our basement (approximately $2,100); and DuraCeramic (limestone composite) tiles over sheet vinyl in our kitchen (approximately $2,200). In the basement, the installers took up and removed the old carpet and padding and then installed the laminate and matching shoe molding. In the kitchen, they laid the tiles and installed unpainted shoe molding, which I later painted.

Description of Work: Company installed bamboo flooring over concrete slab. Work involved some floor leveling with patching. Home approx. 1500 square feet located in Bethesda/Chevy Chase.

Description of Work: Our basement carpet flooded in the June rains and needed to be replaced. A representative from Rick's came out to our house with an array of samples, sold us a replacement carpet and arranged for installation of the new carpet in the basement and on the steps. They disposed of the old carpet, moved the furniture in the basement, and installed the new carpet and padding.

Description of Work: Removal of old carpet and padding, installation of new padding (6 lb.) and carpet. Approximately 840 square feet were re-carpeted.

Description of Work: Had hardwood floors installed on the first level of my townhouse. Had hardwood stairs put in.

Description of Work: WE HAD NEW VINYL SHEET FLOORING INSTALLED IN OUR KITCHEN. THEY REMOVED THE OLD FLOORING BECAUSE WE DIDN'T KNOW IF THERE WERE OTHER LAYERS UNDER IT.
