Expert Fence

When I initially contacted Expert Fenced they took longer to get back to me than I would have liked. In fact, I called them back again myself before I finally got a good response. After that initial issue, everything went smoothly. Joe arrived right on time and did a good job explaining our options and giving us an estimate. The work crew had a cancelation and called to see if they could come a day early. In a little over a day of work, they installed an attractive, sturdy fence. We got just what we asked for. They cleaned up nicely afterwards too.

The owner personally came out to do an estimate to replace part of the fence in the backyard of our townhouse. He was fantastic, explained the entire process, and the company was reasonably priced. All the work was done as promised and in a timely fashion. Would highly recommend the company.

We had to have some bids done. They did a great job. It was quick. The quality was good. We were very pleased with the final product. They cleaned up well. They didn't leave a mess. We got a couple of bids out. They were the most competitive; we were happy with their price.

I liked the estimator very much and Expert Fence was one of two finalists for the project, which involved splitting of some of the cost with my neighbor, since we shared a common fence. I had a few extras I wanted done on my side in addition to the shared fence, and for which I paid an additional amount. In the end we went with the other company based solely on the cost of the shared portion, which was less expensive for my neighbor and seemed to be the fairest decision in this particular case.

They were very prompt, and they gave us a fair estimate. We had a problem with the gate, and they were very prompt to return and fix it. We would use them again.

Expert Fence had constructed the fence between our property and the neighbor about 4 years ago, so I asked for a quote when we had to rebuild the fence at the back of the property. I gave a C on punctuality since he did show up, but he spent most of his time asking about things I had in the yard, and showing me what another customer had just given him. He wrote down a few specs and I never heard from him again...perhaps the job was too small. There is a problematic tree in the corner and perhaps he simply didn't want to deal with it. Or I wasn't willing to give him the things he liked that were lying about.

They were very responsive, which was nice since I live out of state. Everything was done in a timely manner, and they also did a great job cleaning up. The fence looks very nice, and I was pleased with their work.

Every bit of their business practice is top notch.

the estimator came out within 48 hours of my first contact and the work was done the following week. the two man crew who did the work was fast and did great work, cleaned up after themselves and were friendly. the new fence looks and works great! overall, a very pleasant experience. their price was about half of the big fence company's quote.

Requested estimate from the original fence company to repair loose gate hinges. Expert Fence estimate was $350 to replace the hinge hardware on a 3 foot high door, sent by email with link to a picture. Asking about the hinges in the picture the price became $390. The hinges failed due to the undersized bolts originally installed by Expert Fence. I thought I would ask Expert Fence for an estimate, since they originally installed the fence, gate and hardware and would be simpler to repair their your own work. . I never received a call back from the message posted to their web page contact section, so after a few days I called. Kris eventually contacted me and through several phone conversations, stayed in contact from the initial phone conversation to the completed estimate and follow-up email question. He stated that he visited my house, saw my fence gate, a personally made the estimate. This whole process seemed a little inefficient. I decide not to ask Expert Fence to repair my loose hinges, or for the estimate to replace the hinges as the price was too high. I plan to make a trip to the store and buy better bolts, re-drill the holes and tighten an otherwise perfect hinge set and save $350 to $390 dollars.

The crew was very ready to go at 7:30 am, but the crew chief was still very careful to answer my last minute questions and work out last minute details.

Kris came out on the date and time we had scheduled with their office. He spent lots of time measuring, and making suggestions as to fence style, and latch choice that we hadn't even considered. Glad we took his advice. We also had a fairly lengthy list of questions which he answered to our satisfaction, and relief. He got back to us with an estimate in a timely manner. Only glitch was a miscommunication between him and the work crew about a start date. They didn't show on our scheduled day. Kris was very responsive and apologetic. Got that straightened out and they arrived exactly on time for the reschedule. Crew foreman was very pleasant and professional. They completed the work in one day as promised. They also provided some "chicken wire" for free on an unrelated project saving us the expense of buying a whole roll. We felt that they gave us a dynamite price. Everything went fine. The fence is much nicer than we expected. This was not a huge job, and the first company we called spent all of 5 minutes looking at the property. They promised an estimate in three days. They never responded, despite repeated phone calls. We highly recommend Expert Fence.

On time, on budget, excellent job, pleasure to do business with.

Our experience with expert fence started off very well. They were prompt about coming out and giving us an estimate for their work and walking through everything. It took a bit of communication back and forth to ensure we had the correct estimate amounts (they quoted a few different amounts and it took several e-mails to verify the correct amount), but we got it all sorted. We paid to have someone come out and mark the property to ensure all property lines were marked for their work since we had them fencing our entire backyard as well as part of our neighbor's yard. The day they showed up to start work I walked through everything with the work crew, to include pointing out several times where we had in-ground, solar path lights and asking them to please be careful of the in-ground wires that powered the lights.Just before I left home for work, the lead worker on the crew knocked on my door to ask if we had any external power outlets on the house for them to plug in their air compressor. I was a little put off since they'd not mentioned this before. Our neighborhood doesn't have any external power, so the only solultion was to either plug their powercord in our house and run it under one of the exterior doors (which they wouldn't be able to take with them until I came home), or using one of our extension cords from home for them to use, which they could leave there. I decided to just plug in one of ours, and asked them to just let me know when they were done for the day. At the end of the day, they never said a word, just packed up and left - leaving my extension cord just laying out in the front yard. They finished all the work the 2nd day and I did a walk through in the backyard. I noticed that after they completed their work that they'd left numerous pieces of cut chain-link from the old fence strewn around the yard and hadn't picked them up - to include a string of nailgun nails. Luckily I did a walk around the yard and hopefully found all of them, but many of these cut links were very sharp and some were stuck point up in the mud. That would really have been a serious injury if my 2 year old daughter or our dog had stepped on one. Also, instead of ensuring they completely removed all of our old fence, they broke off some of the metal fence posts and left sharp, dangerous posts sticking up in our yard.Lastly the gate on the left side of the house (the side where our driveway is located), the latch hardware wasn't put on quite right. The gate closes just fine, but it seems like it is a fraction of an inch off so that it won't open without lifting the gate slightly. Not a massive issue, but something I would have hoped the crew would have checked before they left. It seems to be just barely off (maybe 1/16-1/8 of an inch), but it's enough that the gate doesn't open or close easily - and now, 2 months later, the other fence is doing the same thing. Lastly, I discovered that they apparently paid no heed to my concerns regarding our in-ground path lighting and cut right through the power cord. Instead of telling me about the error, they just pulled the cable up and coiled it against the edge of the house so it wouldn't be obvious until after they'd left.. I e-mailed the company with these issues and at first they replied as if they were going to take action to fix these problems. However, once our final check to them cleared, we never heard from them again. The fence looks good, but with all the other issues, and lack of customer service in regards to fixing the problems we identified to them, i would never recommend them to someone else or use them ever again.

Expert Fence did a great job at a competitive price. We experienced two irregularities, however. First, Expert Fence didn't show up on the scheduled day. Normally, it wouldn't have been a big deal, but I was coordinating their work with other work. After a phone call, Expert Fence showed up the following day (which was a Saturday) to get the job done in time, before the other work was scheduled to begin. Second, to match the fence with a neighboring fence, Expert Fence slanted the fence line at the top. They did a good job at it, but I would have preferred to keep the line level and have mis-match in the fence line. But I understand why they made the decision, and it looks fine.

They did a terrific job and the new fence looks great. When I called for an estimate Joe came on time to my house and quickly took measurements and did a drawing. We discussed several difficult areas and how to tackle them, and I took most of his suggestions. Selecting the fence I wanted was easy; I had seen a photo of what we wanted on their website and showed it to him. When I needed to make an adjustment, I simply called him and we altered the contract over the phone. On the day of installation the crew was punctual, efficient and polite. They worked around the challenging rainy weather and on the first day removed the chain link and sank the posts into concrete. The second day they had the rest of the fence up and the gates installed nicely, and then cleaned up. The only glitch with this project was that on the day they had told me it would start, I took the morning off and was home waiting for them, but they didn't arrive. The rainy weather had caused an (understandable) back-up in their work, but someone had (not so understandably) forgotten to call and tell me about the delay. An inconvenience but they came quickly on the first non-rainy day. Overall, we are very happy with the new fence and the quality is terrific -- several neighbors have asked for the company's name and number, which I have gladly provided.

Their quality was way better than I had expected. They were punctual and professional. They made adaptations at no charge. They completed the work on time and at the price agreed upon. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. They were pretty much perfect. However, we had one trouble. They hit a power line that was not marked properly. It was not really their fault. Once it happened, they took care of everything. It was resolved quickly, and I did not have to deal with the power company. They did more than I asked for. Their price was as good as any of the other companies that I had called, and their quality was far better. I am very pleased with their work.

Pleased with results. Estimate was highest of three by $400 but went with them given reviews from two different sources which emphazsized quality of work. Pleased with results. Installation crew professional. Had some issues with scheduling, had to call scheduler to get information instead of proactive action and no returning a couple of calls. Would recoomend and use them again.

When I needed a fence for my backyard I didn't know who to use and didn't have any friends that could recommend a company. I went onto Angie's List and picked the two with the best ratings to ask for a quote (this in addition to three other companies that I had found through a local newsletter/magazine). The first thing that the estimator said when he came to look at my project was "we are not the cheapest, but we are really really good". Not only Expert Fence was the most affordable, they also use cedar for the fence boards. If you don't know anything about wood, like me, cedar is the premium material and will outlive you. They guys installed 70ft of fence in less than a full day. The crew of two was awesome and didn't care about going the extra mile by digging a couple of holes for me (to put trees later on). While digging for the one of the fence posts they hit one of my drain lines (not marked) and they quickly helped me to fix it. They were also careful at selecting the material that they installed, if the board/post didn't look right, they didn't put it up. They also were quick to change a board I didn't like without hesitation. This fence looks so good that all my neighbor's fences look as if they were build at a high school wood shop...I wish I could link a photo of it.. I was planning to get multiple quotes again for my next home project but I think that I will just go to Expert Fence based on this experience alone. If you want a fence to be installed Kudos to the company and to the crew that came to my house.

The company showed up, when they said they would. They completed the job the same day, as they said they would. I am satisfied with their work and would use them again.

Overall, things turned-out excellent. They were straigtforward and did what they said they were going to do.

They did a great job on my fence. Their estimate was right on target. They were really accommodating when they came by to give me an estimate. I will refer them to others but I hope I will not need to use them again.

They wanted to meet with me to provide the proposal. The guy who came educated me on the project and gave me some useful information. He also provided a written proposal. He included a list of specified materials. The price that he quoted was right in the middle of other quotes I received. He is knows what he is doing.

Our house had some old rusting chain link and what appeared to be chicken wire and plumbing pipe fencing that desperately needed to go. Expert Fence came out for an estimate and I went over with them exactly what I wanted which was pretty specific because different part of the fence had slightly differently requirements for height, gates, etc. The estimate they gave was right on price-wise and what I asked them to do they did exactly. They took exactly three days to do demo and install just like they said. They also gave me all cedar for the price of pine because they had gotten it in at a good price. Later, a couple weeks after it was done I had trouble with one of the latches for one of the gates and they came out and fixed it right away. I've done about $50k of work on the outside of my house this year and this fence project is the only one I can say went exactly right and cost exactly what I thought. It wasn't cheap but the fence is beautiful and I got just what I wanted.

called and scheduled a time for someone to come out. Since I and my wife were traveling I arranged a time when neither of us were home. I was not told that this might be a problem. When I received an estimate and called to say we were inclined to go ahead but wanted to have someone come out and answer a few more questions, I was told that it was their policy to only come out once. Then I pointed out that they had failed to provide an estimate for the back fence gate. So they agreed to come out again to provide that estimate and answer our other questions. After that meeting which was fine we agreed to go ahead. We then waited several weeks for them to call and give us a time. Only after I called again and said we were leaving DC soon for more than 2 weeks did they schedule a time. The work was done well except that a sewer pipe was broken. It was not called to our attention and only when we were asked were we told that some tape would be put around it. When we said that was not satisfactory they agreed to replace the pipe. It took some time for that to be done. In the meantime we were not satisfied with the handle on the back gate. It looked like a string had been put through a large whole. We were first told that this was standard. When we insisted a new handle was put on. In the end the work was all high quality and all the changes we requested were made but the hassle was substantial.
