Description of Work: Del Ray Glass replaced 2 huge double-paned casement windows. The appointments were made in a timely manner and their staff is professional and friendly. They are one of the only companies in the area that would even attempt the job. I will definitely use them again.

No problems. Installers were careful to make sure they knew where I wanted it installed. They measured (again) prior to bringing the mirror in the house, installed the j-channel to hold it, and applied mirror mastic to the wall. In this way, the mirror was held both mechanically, and chemically to the wall. They were very neat and careful around my granite countertops and cabinets. It did take a few weeks to get it made, but was flawless when we received it.

We have several old casement windows in our house. Those windows have storm windows on the outside that are flimsy metal frames holding a sheet of glass. Several of the sheets of glass had broken before we moved in and I finally called Del Ray Glass to see if they could replace the glass. They could and asked me to bring the metal frame to them. The sheets of glass were 15"x33" and each sheet of glass plus installation into the frame cost $33.25. I dropped off the frames and several days later picked them back up with new glass inside. I was very pleased.

The estimate went fine, as did the initial installation, except that Rene was hard to get a hold of and did not show up on time. My issue was with the service afterwards. I had specifically asked them to add their warranty conditions to the estimate, and I'm glad I did because the windows leaked. When I called the first time for repair, it was difficult to get someone out to look at the windows. They said they'd replace a window and I needed to be there for the installation. The day of repair the guys never showed up, and when I talked to Rene he denied that a new window would be installed. He said that I didn't need to be home as the repair would be done from the outside. The next day while I was at work the repair guy called me asking to be let into the house! I started to wonder if these people had their act together at all when I got a call from Terry requesting to schedule a repair for another customer ("oh sorry we got our paperwork mixed up")!!! In the big snowstorm this year, the windows leaked AGAIN. This time I took pictures and wrote a letter to the GM, who did call right away and said he'd get to the bottom of all these shenanigans. However when I scheduled this second repair for 7 a.m., the repair person showed up at 6:30 a.m.! The repairman was apologetic and re-siliconed the windows. I'm waiting to see how they hold up in more weather.

The only good part of the experience was Terry in the main office. It was all downhill from there. I guess I should have known better since from the estimation, when they didn't show up for an appointment, and then tried to say that it was because I hadn't called to confirm an appointment made a week prior, that I should have gone with another company. They missed their first appointment on a Friday entirely after we painstakingly moved three rooms of furniture. Then on Monday when they did show up, they proceeded to change out a pane of glass that didn't have any issues, leaving installed one with condensation. On the way into the house, they slit our brand new screen door and denied they did it, and then they left us with windows removed from the frames at 10:30 AM, saying they would return at noon. When they hadn't showed up at 3:45 PM we called the main office to ask if they would ever come back. Terry tracked them down in the early evening, and they finally returned, to install the glass in the dark. When they took out the old window, they just started to allow the glass pieces to fall onto the brand new wood floors. I had to bed them to put down a drop cloth;, which they finally reluctantly did. When they started to install this window, which was a special order dual pane, it was too big. Their solution was to take it to the shop and cut it, assuring me that this wouldn't affect the seal and look just fine. I was not reassured, and if that's the case, why did I have to special order it in the first place. To top it off, they left behind a bottle of windex with obscenities written on it. They also promised they could come back the next day to make sure the work they performed in the dark was fine. I waited all day; they never came, and I haven't heard from them since.

Ok. The quality of the repair and the workmen were fine. The whole process took too long and too many phone calls, however. It took several calls to get someone to get back to us and to schedule a visit for the workmen to measure the pane. Then they had to order the pane because it was custom. We didn't hear from them for weeks. We called and asked about the status of the order. For some reason, the order didn't come in. I don't know if it was initially placed until we called to check on it. Then we had to call again to find out when it would come in. Bear in mind that this was a pane on an exterior door so we had it duct-taped, which was neither weather-proof nor secure, so it was a high priority to get this fixed. Finally, several weeks later, they finally got the glass and the installers came to put it in within a couple of days of that. Overall, it just took more time and effort on our part to get this done than it should have, especially for the price.

Over a period of four months I dealt with Del-Ray three different times. The first was to obtain an estimate based on a faxed drawing for a neo-angle frameless shower enclosure. It took more than two weeks and several follow-up phone calls before I received a faxed quote with two options. Little did I know this initial experience prefigures what's to come. The second time was about a month later to obtain an estimate for a third hardware option I was considering. That took about a week and the revised quote was e-mailed. So far so good. After receiving several estimates from different glass companies I decided to go with Del-Ray, because it was a company referred to by my contractor and their price was very competitive. After the shower was built I contacted them for an on-site measurement and a final and firm quote. The assistant on the phone said a scheduler would call me within a couple of days. A week later I called and was told scheduling decided not to call because there was already a quote in the system. After explaining the quote was based on a concept faxed drawing and not on-site measurement, I was again told a scheduler would call. Four days later, just as I was giving up on them and have already asked other companies for an on-site measurement, they called and scheduled a visit for the middle of the following week. The visit came. The rep had with him a 2-foot level. During my research into frameless shower enclosures I learned it's very important to measure correctly and accurately, including measuring for any out-of-plumb walls. Maybe he's an exceptionally gifted measurer, but when the other three companies brought at least a 2-foot and a 4-foot level (two brought a 6-foot level too), his using only a 2-foot level, and tracing angles on a piece of paper instead of using an angle measuring device, did not give me confidence in the quality of their installation. Due to the on-site measurements being materially different than the faxed drawing (the glass would be 5" taller), he told me I would receive an updated and firm quote. Well, three weeks later and nary a sight of the final quote. All the other companies have provided final quotes within 3 days of site visit. Needless to say, I'm not using Del-Ray.

My complaint is mainly with the office, not the installers. It was hard to reach Del Ray personnel. For example, when I had to run out shortly before the time period when the estimator was supposed to arrive, I called Del Ray to ask when he was coming (toward the beginning or end of the window.) They couldn't tell me when because they had no idea who was coming and so they couldn't reach him. Crazy. I ended up having to have the estimator come twice because he came when I wasn't there and they gave me an estimate for replacing 10 windows, which was too high. Then they left me a voicemail message saying they would come on a certain date to do the installation. I called back within the hour, spoke to a live person, explained I would be away on vacation on that date, and changed it to a week later. While I am in a movie theater hundreds of miles away, I get a call from Del Ray glass. They're at the house ready to install. Don't these office personnel keep any records? When I returned home and the installers came, they showed up with: a) a piece of broken glass b) glass that was apparently too big for the windows (they were the ones who measured the windows.) They broke a pane trying to install it. They had to come back a week later to finish the job. This whole thing took a lot more time and money than I had expected. I would like to add that the installer was a perfectly lovely person. Very amiable.

I took 4 exact cardboard templates into their shop for some glass shelves. Needless to say they must have thrown the templates out because the glass did not fit. After many calls and lack of response, I had to remake the templates and take them back to the store for new shelves to be cut AGAIN. When I went to the store to pick the glass up, I made sure to check them against the templates I provided. Two of them weren't cut to the templates AGAIN but I took them anyway because I was tired of wasting my time with these nincompoops.

Disappointed in the quality of work, customer service and management's responsiveness. I ordered 4 glass plates on a Monday and received them on Tuesday, but returned them 1 week later. They were not cut to the exact specification of 7 inches by 7 inches; unusual because glass is a very precise business. In addition, the edges were not cut evenly but left jagged, uneven. I returned them asking for a full refund: They were simply not what was ordered and the electrician could not fit them in the fixtures. Numerous phone calls and another visit to address the issue finally resulted in a full refund more than 2 weeks later. Initially, the general manager just wanted to recut the glass, but I told customer service it was far too late for that; product wasn't perfect, nor ready when I needed it. A $34 refund required involvement of accounting, general mgr. and customer service; no way to run a business. I then purchased the 4 plates for less than $10 at the local hardware store.
