Jovanne arrived within the appointment window. He was very friendly and professional. He explained in detail how he would proceed. He removed the toilet and had the camera up and running in no time. As he snaked the camera through the system he would take me out to the yard and show me where the camera was located. When he reached the street, I had seen with my own eyes that the sewer line was neither obstructed nor broken. He cleaned up quickly and left no mess. He even provided me with a video on a dvd of the camera's journey through the sewer line. I've used Caffi Plumbing over the years and have never been disappointed. Yes, you may pay a little more for their service, but Caffi's professionalism and competence is well worth it.
Description of Work: Caffi Plumbing snaked a camera from a basement toilet through the sewer line from the house to the street in order to detect any obstructions or breaks in the line.

I previously used CB Lucas and had so many issues with service (not showing up on time, not getting back to me when I emailed/called etc). Caffi showed up on time and called ahead to let me know they were on their way. They were professional and explained everything they were doing as they did it. I was so pleased with the service I am hiring them to handle the HVAC maintenance for a rental property also.
Description of Work: I had the them do a spring check of the air conditioner.

Wonderful work -- wonderful workmanship. HIghly recommend. They came to the rescue for plumbing. We had a blockage UNDER our basement floor. 2 days worth of work to fix. You can't even tell they hammered under 3 ft. of cement. Just amazing. My family has used Caffi for over 20 years. You get what you pay for and more!

I've used them often for probably 10 years or so. I like their responsiveness that if you have an urgent problem, you get an immediate response. They have a couple of really expert plumbers. They do a very neat and a superb job. They're very pleasant, willing to explain exactly what the problem is and how they're gonna fix it.

They do everything, but when you have a plumbing problem, they send out people who have a lot of experience in plumbing. It is very competitive here, they have a lot of good plumbers around. We still have a hole in the ceiling, they said they had people who can fix it, but we will get another guy to do it, because we have been using him for years. They are not cheap. They had to tear into the place and shine lights up there to get the hole.
Description of Work: We use Caffi Contracting Services. He is our plumber. They are water heater experts amongst other things. The last came out to fix a leak in a pipe that was making a hole in the ceiling. They opened it up and made the diagnoses, and it is not leaking anymore.

Review from Janaury 2014: We had another main line backup two days before our wedding. My (now) husband stayed home to take care of it while I ran around to get things together for the wedding. Well, he had a heck of an experience. I gave such a good review last time, but this was like a completely different company. We called them in the morning, remembering how helpful they were last time. We wanted the drain snaked and scoped again (we should not be having these backups annually). At first they did not think they could be out for a couple of days, but then they realized they had an opening. I asked on the phone how much it would cost and they said that the plumber would tell us the price when he got to the house. When the plumber came, he quoted my husband $998 just for the snaking (not the camera). That is by any standard a ludicrously high price, especially since he didn't even have to remove the toilet (it's not installed right now). Even worse, the plumber didn't even bring the camera with him - so he didn't even have the right equipment! My husband contested this and plumber was rude to him and then left in a huff without doing the job. My husband got a call from a manager who finally agreed to let us pay the same price as last time and quot;because we are Angie's List customers.and quot; This is a lame excuse for only moderately over-charging for your service. The manager came out with two other plumbers who cleared the blockage and used the camera. The manager was baffled about why they had tried to go in through the toilet in the first place rather than the outdoor cleanout. Anyway, it turns out our pipe is slightly separated underground, causing debris to get caught on the edge. Caffi suggested that they could give us a quote for fixing this and that they would call the utility company to mark our yard and then follow up with us to schedule the quote. The utility company came out and sprayed our lawn orange the next day and put in those little flags, but Caffi never followed up with us. Now, after the snow, we have some vague orange marks and a bunch of sad, rotting flags around the yard. I guess it's time to clean those up since Caffi never followed up and I'm not sure we would want to do business with them again anyway. Review from February 2013: We called at about 7:45 AM, and they were able to get here around 9 AM, which was great. Mike was very professional overall. The only thing that bothered me was that he wore his dirty gloves around our house after finishing scoping the drain, but maybe I'm just too sensitive. Anyway, he diagnosed the problem as a main line blockage and then had his colleague bring out the more heavy duty snake and the camera scope. We had a similar back-up about a year and a half ago, so we wanted them to scope it to see if there was a problem with the pipe. They found that hard debris was blocking about half of the pipe and were able to push it through. Mike also gave us advice on buying a new water heater, which we had been looking into, and fixed a minor problem with the upstairs shower faucet (hot and cold water were backwards). They did not charge for the scope or the minor faucet repair, but the main blockage clearing was $690, which isn't exactly a bargain rate. However, I feel like I got good value, since the scope was included. I would use them again.
Description of Work: This was my review the first time we used them (February 2013): We had a main line backup in the basement of our townhouse. They snaked the drain and then, at our request, ran a scope to look for the source of the blockage (since we had a similar problem about a year and a half ago). There was something hard blocking about half the pipe and they were able to push it through. They also gave us advice on our water heater and fixed a minor problem with a faucet in our upstairs shower. But now I have to change the review to reflect our last experience.

Mike knew we were in a hurry to have a new water heater and actually showed up a few days early! He stepped into our cramped HVAC/Laundry/Water heater room and started giving us great recommendations on how to rearrange the room. All of his recommendations were based on what he would want done in his own home. He junked a laundry sink, put an upgraded water heater in its place, rerouted all of the associated pipes and vents, fixed a leak in our drain, and replaced a gas valve to our furnace. Mike worked very hard all day, was very professional, answered all of my questions, and his work was spectacular. He really opened up the room for us, making laundry much easier.

After seeing the work, a rough verbal estimate of 700+ was thrown out. Plumber wanted to install a shelf in the basement concrete wall to put the RO tub and filters on. we had a rolling cart or a work bench for that purpose. His mind was fixed on charging us for building a shelf, guess to bump up the hours of labor. His estimate without a shelf, was still 400-500 range. LOL, the hardest part and longest time is to crawl under the kitchen sink, and put the spigot in the existing hole in the sink. Had a friend do this, about 30 minutes. the rest of the task is to hook up quick connect couplings with the tubs. water was available in the basement where the filters and tank were placed, really easy because you did not have to work under the sink.. took me messing around 40 minutes to make all the connection. spoke to the manufacture about cost to install, time, etc... they say someone with little experience - two hours, a plumber with experience and tools and understanding - an hour - And when told customer service this firm wanted $400+, that ticked them off to have someone try to rip me off. Not sure why the cost was way out of line, maybe did not want to do the work? Anyway, did not use them, and followed on line video from the manufacture and said - this is easy and did it myself. Had to get one extra piece, when I turned the water on to where an old sink use to be (used that to feed the RO system) the other line to the supply for where the old toilet use to be started to link. $400+ richer now and really wonder why the price was and quot;out of the ball parkand quot; I was not going to call back and find out. will say that they arrived on time, good service scheduling, but price....ouch
Description of Work: Plumber came over to give an estimate on hooking up a RO (reverse osmosis) water system. What is a pretty simple task was getting upgraded to a huge task.

Good! Luckily for us, the water leak was right where the evidence was on the kitchen ceiling. The Caffi plumber showed up to our house and told us we had two options: 1.) since we were away for the weekend and had turned off the house water for preventative reasons, the leak could have calcified over and the leak could be fine or 2.) we could replace that section of copper piping. We opted for option 1 because things looked fine.... until the plumber left. Then we saw the leak. Luckily he hadn't left our street yet so we were able to flag him down. He came back and fixed the pipe. All is well. Like others have mentioned, Caffi uses a price book with primary and secondary pricing based on the what the primary issue is and what secondary issue resulted from the primary issue. At least you know you're getting a consistent price. I still think that the prices are consistently slightly higher than most plumbers but we trust this company so we continue to go with who we trust and not the cheapest price.

Caffi diagnosed the problem quickly and repaired it in the most simple. Least expensive manner. The technician was exceptionally personable and earned my trust immediately. This was one of those repairs that a dishonest company could have scammed me into paying more for work I didn't need. The technician also inspected my furnace and cleaned it without charge. I will definitely use Caffi again. I gave them a B on price because I think the industry charges too much. Caffi is not the least expensive but I think the reliability is worth the difference.

. Everything turned out okay. They were very professional and efficient. Everything was done and cleaned up. We had a leak with one toilet and there were problems beginning with two others. So, we just told them to go from top to bottom and replace all the toilets. It was a big deal, but it got done. It was over with and I did not have to think about it anymore. The guy was here until like 7:30 at night. I am sure he made a lot of money and that is why he was here, but at least he got it done. He was not back and forth, back and forth, and half done. The toilet is out and nothing in it is safe. He did explain everything that he was doing as he was doing it. We talked about what was essential, what the problems were, what had gone wrong, and the age of the toilets. So, he communicated well. He was an experienced plumber. He knew what he was doing. I did not feel like it was something else that I have to worry about not done later on. It was expensive though, but it was done correctly and it went with a very nice product. The cost includes labor, the toilets, new pipes, and new water turn off valves. Everything was done.

I called several plumbers for cost estimates on installing new shut-off valves and a trap for a sink/vanity I was replacing, but none would quote even a ballpark without me paying for a service call. A neighbor recommended Caffi because of they way they price things: they use a book-value much like an auto shop. I was able to get an appointment the next day, and the plumber was prompt and courteous. He quoted me the price before the work, which seemed high to me but by that time I was tired of dealing with the project so I had him go ahead and do the work. He seemed a little surprised that I wouldn't want to do at least the trap part myself, having seen the work I had done on the rest of the bathroom, but I was tired of visiting The Home Depot. He even instructed me on exactly what was involved to do the job. In the end, he left me with the trap assembly and told me how to finish installing the sink drain when I received it. (He recommended ordering a metal drain in place of the plastic which came with the faucet, something I appreciated). But when I went to install the drain a week later I still had to cut back the PVC on the trap assembly the Caffi plumber had left for me because it was not well aligned to the sink. I don't mind paying if I don't have to do the work myself, but... I'd still probably/maybe use Caffi for other plumbing needs mostly because I really liked the way the plumber taught me about the job and because of the way they do their pricing. They are not cheap, but neither were any of the other plumbers I have used.

Excellent from start to finish. We especially appreciated how they do the billing. Labor (plus basic floor tile) was one expense. Any fittings and fixtures were priced separately. We had the option of providing our own materials or using items they sold. We mostly used their products. They never guided us wrong and the prices were excellent. Work commenced on time and finished earlier than estimated. Quality of the work was outstanding. Professionals were very easy to work with (the phrase and quot;a dreamand quot; comes to mind). Very tidy. Cleaned up each day. Even my neighbor commented to the principal foreman how impressed she was with that. This was our first major renovation/repair work. I had seen all the horror stories about price gouging, shoddy work, questionable workers. NONE of it with this job. Strongest recommendation I can provide; my husband hates this kind of disruption. When the work was finished he remarked that if we were ever to do the kitchen, this company and this foreman were the only ones he would let do it.

Needed to route new pipes in the walls over doorway and behind refrigerator/dishwasher to sink. Kitchen was just renovated 3 months before Caffi performed their work and they were able to do the job without ripping out the new cabinets to get behind them into the walls. One guy did the demo and plumbing in about two days, and another came the next day and took two days to patch the drywall and paint. Drywall is between level 3 and 4 work. We were pleased with the work and professionalism of both the office staff and the laborers.

The plumber made a diagnosis of the problem and identified the faulty part. He offered to try a temporary fix which only involved putting some permatex on a fitting. This did not work and with only 10 minutes labor, he charged an additional 138.00 dollars. He called his management to get it reduced, but there was NO relief!! They were however very responsive and provided a detailed and clear estimate for the work to be done. Their staff that showed up to evaluate the work to be done, have a good a detailed understanding of the scope of work. And though I ended up not hiring them. I do know others who have hired them and have been by and large very satisfied with their services. (it is hard to be perfect in this business). We had hesitations with them on two fronts. First this was for a commercial project and the feedback we got was for mainly providing residential services in for mainly plumbing work, there is a HUGE difference between commercial and residential plumbing or mechanical systems. Secondly, we also knew them for the plumbing work mainly and not for their mechanical expertise, hence that was cause for some pause by some, however their good performance in their plumbing work allowed us to be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for the mechanical scope. If you have been in construction for years like I have you will come to realize that a good service / construction company is mainly based on a good team but even more importantly is good management. So if a company with good management decides to expand, chances are they will continue to impress on their expanded services. Having said that some companies tend to neglect management issues when they grow to fast. NB: I am not giving an over all grade of A as they did not perform any work to allow me complete the evaluation.
Description of Work: I am writing this due to the specific request on this company. We ended up not using Caffi for the work I had in mind. Due to no fault of theirs. The service to be provided was to be plumbing and mechanical services for a commercial project

Called and Emailed Caffi construction, as previous satisfied customers. Did not hear back for one week and received a phone call from a manager within the company. Explained what we wanted and two days later received the phone call and scheduled the date of visit. The Caffi representative arrived on time, took a lot of notes and made wonderful suggestions (some of which we incorporated into the proposal and others not). This was for a proposal/free estimate only -- no work was performed.
Description of Work: We utilized Caffi Construction to remodel the owner's suite bedroom and bathroom. This work was reviewed on Angie's list and it was top notch! This was extensive work to include tearing down existing and erecting new walls. The contact in February 2013 was for a proposal on a "pull and replace" (demolition, haul away, finish-setting/installing toilet, vanity, countertop, mirror, medicine cabinet, tub, floor tile, shower tile & grab bars, towel bars, recessed niche, and plumbing & electric that did not require moving pipes or switches & outlets), job for a full guest bathroom, much smaller job. The estimate amount for labor was surprisingly close to the amount of the first job, yet this work is much simpler. As a result, we did not elect Caffi Construction.

The hot water feed to my kitchen sink popped a *huge,* spraying leak. While I tried to stem the flood, I managed to dislodge the sink's main drain pipe from the disposal and where the straight PVC pipe connected with the old iron system. Lewis and quot;Lewand quot; arrived within the hour after I spoke with Carla at the office, he efficiently surveyed all the damage, taught me a few things to do if a similar situation happens again anywhere in my house, and assisted me with re-lighting my hot water heater before he left (that too, was shut off during my and quot;adventureand quot; in plumbing). He had all the necessary parts and tools, and quickly remedied what I thought was going to be a costly and lengthy repair. Lew was extremely professional, patiently answered all my DIY and quot;what ifand quot; questions, and couldn't have been nicer. I already planned to have Caffi Contracting Services back to provide me with estimates for other plumbing improvements, as well as to perform the work for me. I highly recommend both Caffi Contracting Services and specifically Lew to provide you with home improvement assistance and plumbing work!
Description of Work: 1) re-seat main PVC drainage pipe for kitchen sink into old iron pipe; 2) remove broken hot & cold water feeds to kitchen sink (an emergency situation, since I had to shut off water to the whole house to decrease the rate of leakage); 3) install hot & cold water feeds with shut off valves.
