Response from Salzano Custom Concrete
Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. We do get many inquiries like this for small projects. I always take time to return these calls personally and discuss the project details to be sure I understand the scope and specifics of the job. We do typically have a $4,200 minimum charge. I am always very upfront about this on the phone. This job minimum is fine for most customers with average or larger size jobs, but not often for those with smaller jobs. Customers often ask why we have this minimum, and is frequently misinterpreted. As I tell customers regularly on the phone "its not about getting rich, if it was, I'm in the wrong business :-) " ... it is actually about covering the operating costs (fixed costs) that most customers don't understand, ie high cost of trucks, fuel, insurance, taxes, phones, county fees, warehouse space, administrative costs, and so on and so on .. roughly the first $2-$3k on every job, regardless of the size has to go toward those costs ... then ... add in the cost of the material, labor, etc. on that specific job. This pricing simply reflects the reality of running a small business in Virginia. Most customers understand when I explain this on the phone, and others perceive this to be some sort of money-hungry, unprofessional contractor scheme, which may be the case with this review. This review gives us a "C" for professionalism, which to me means "unprofessional". You may not agree or understand the need for a minimum charge, I'd just have to disagree that this unprofessional ... you certainly have the right to your opinion. Most customers, under this circumstance gives us an "A" for professionalism because how up front I am with this on the phone, and realize we won't work out for that job. I field approx 500 calls each year, and most of these new customers understand the reality of how pricing works. Secondly, this review also gives a "C" for responsiveness. I don't remember this call specifically, but it does often take 24-72 hours before we can return calls, due to the large volume that we receive. I specifically change the greeting on my voice-mail to reflect this, so again, no misunderstanding. Again, you have the right to rate however you want, but I can certainly say again how I disagree that this would be unprofessional. I bend over backwards for customers. I run all work myself, I respond to all emails myself, and do all sales calls myself. I do the very best I can to field every call personally. I spend lots of time on each call to be sure customers have information they need. I really wish customers writing reviews would reserve "unprofessional" for those contractors or situations that deserve it ... And finally, you gave us a "C" for pricing. Our pricing is fair and reasonable and certainly in line with the rest of this industry, our job minimum just prices us out of this small job. I hope this clears things up for you. And again, happy that you took the time to provide feedback. It always helps make our service better. Call anytime to discuss ...................... cj
