A+ Handyman West Valley

I did not call right away but about 1 month before expiration of the coupon. When I called to request service, he said he was very busy but asked if I had an urgent need. I did--I needed the mailbox moved as the mailman was refusing to deliver the mail. He said that wouldn't take too long and he could come out a couple of days later after another job. He did come, was late (but that did not bother me as he was only about 1 hr late for someone supposedly very busy and coming from another job). He arrived with his young daughter (about 8 or 9 yrs). He took down the mailbox and moved it to a USPS approved location. Took about 40 minutes to do. I have a brick house. It was higher on the wall than I wanted and the lid does not close well but I didn't figure that out until after he left and thought it could be fixed on his return. He asked what other stuff did I need done and I told him. This was supposed to be a 3 hr coupon. He said he'd call when he had more time. He has never called. I was somewhat put off by his appearance-unkempt hair, bad teeth; dirty clothes and smelly did not bother me as I figured he had been working. Bringing his daughter to the job was more disturbing. I did not try to call again. Partly it was because I really did expect him to call as promised. But I have to admit that I was uncomfortable in his presence; I could not get past the prickles on the back of my neck. It irritates me that I spent the money for a coupon that was not honored as promised. This was my first experience with special offers and I am unwilling to try for other special offers.

I have had no contact with this provider. The Big Deal purchase stated I would be contacted within 2 business days and still no word. While this is only the 3rd day, the lack of any contact is concerning, given the expressed expectation. Perhaps there are some unusual circumstances here. However, First impression is if a provider cannot meet a basic service agreement of making contact with a customer then what would I expect to see regarding actual service or completion? It does not instill confidence.

Made an appointmnet with Alvin for a Saturday morning at 9:00 AM. He and his sheetrock/painter sub-contractor were already on site when I arrived at 9:00. They already had the area in question surveyed and were prepared to start work immediately. After conrfiming what I needed done, Alvin give me a price of $130.00 to repair the water damaged sheetrock, re-texture the wall and paint. Since this was a farily small project I volumteered to do the painting thus saving additional trips back to the property between sheetrock repair,texturing, and final painting. Alvin agreede to this ans knocked off $30.00 for me doing the paint work..

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it was okay. I paid an additional price over the cost of the Big Deal. Both he and his wife were very nice. With what they had quoted me I expected a little bit more to be done than they did. They did a good job, but maybe I had different expectations than what they had said.

I called and he answered on the first call, unlike someone else I called. He came out within two hours, did the job and charged a very reasonable price to put in a bathroom sink with a cabinet! I will definitely call him again for all my handyman needs! He was very prompt, professional and a good price! I'm very impressed, thanks A+, you did great work!!

All work was done extremely well. Alvin is extremely helpful with small projects and larger ones.

It was very good. The technician was very nice, effective, and efficient.

The work was performed in a professional manner and with extreme attention to detail. He returned to our home three times to complete the finish work on the sheetrock and he took pride in doing the job right.

Contacting and scheduling was a challenge. But after that, the actual work was done quickly and well.

We had a hard time getting together at first on May 7, 2013 at 10:00. After we set the initial day and time, I called to have him come an hour later (11:00) because of a doctor's appointment. Then he called and asked to come a week later on May 9 at 10:00 because of a family emergency. I agreed to the change. Unfortunately he did not write the change in his appointment book and did not come. I waited 45 minutes and then called in frustration. He apologized for the error, asked to come today, May 16, at 9:00 and offered to add another hour to the three-hour special offer I had paid for. Alvin's appearance at first was a little unprofessional and disconcerting even to do painting - unshaven, used (not quite clean) baggy pants, and some body odor. However, he was very friendly and willing to do whatever I asked. He asked me to check as work progressed to make sure it was what was wanted. The painting was very neat and even. His work was clean - no drips or smears anywhere. He received quite a few phone calls about other future work but continued to work for me when he answered them. I was so pleased that he was able to replace the fun switch plate cover so easily. I thought the location would cause problems but he figured out how to install it quickly with no mess. I had the paint on hand so he went right to work upon arrival. As as single woman, I was very comfortable having both Alvin and Taylor in my home. He has a pleasant polite personality and really tries to do what you want. Taylor is quiet but she remembered where to put things back after they were moved to help with the work. They are both nice to have here. I have had family members and other painters help me with my condo; I am a disabled senior and unable to do much of the painting that I enjoy doing. Alvin did high quality work, used the time well, and was great to work with. I would suggest he consider some grooming changes, however, to match his excellent work. I would not hesitate to hire him again for any work he is qualified to do. I was very satisfied.

Alvin got the job done and was friendly and professional. He arrived at 9:15am and left by 12:15pm. My only minor complaint (why I didn't give him an A) is that I felt he could have worked a little faster. I would use him again for other handyman or odd jobs.

He did a phenomenal job. He was awesome! He was very professional and prompt. He was early and answered all of my questions. He was great and I really enjoyed him. I will be calling him in about a month to do more window washing.

It went extremely well. Arlin is no spiffy dresser, but why would anyone want to be when doing manual labor! He patiently listed to the things I wanted him to do and then went about getting the jobs done. I had a long list, which there was no way to finish in this short afternoon visit, but I most certainly want him to come back and continue with the items on my initial list, plus some added jobs! I thought he was just great! I'd give him an A!

If you have to have somebody polished and meticulous and well-dressed who drives a new pickup then these guys aren't for you. But if you want to get the work done right at a reasonable price then go with A+ Handyman. I'm hesitant to make the review "too good" because I may want to hire them again and they are already usually kind of hard to get scheduled because they stay busy. Like I said, if you look underneath all the "surface stuff" you will find you can't beat them for value (good work at a reasonable price).

Never returned my phone calls. Got refund of big deal.

He did a really good job and I would highly recommend him. The gentleman that did the work actually proposed a better solution than the one I had on the shelving issue. He built shelves in a way I hadn't thought of that worked better for me.

The window washer was quick and very responsive. I asked him to do more than contracted for and he performed the work quickly and courteously.

I was not very impressed with him. It took 6 weeks to get him. He did not look professional. He also did not listen to my instructions and had to do things over again. I would not hire him again.

We really loved the handyman. The only complaint we had was that they smelled so of tobacco. Their clothes were dirty. They were extremely good and they knew their business. I asked when I went to the door if they were from Angie’s List and they were very proud of it. They did excellent work. I never had them back because of his appearance.

I bought a coupon from Angie's list for handyman services. When I went to use the coupon I discovered it had already expired, so I had to hire someone else to do the work. I don't blame A+ Handyman for the short expiration date; I blame Angie's list. This is nowhere as good as Groupon which guarantees a refund of what you paid even if you don't use the coupon. With the Angie's list coupon I was simply SOL. Never again will I purchase from Angie's list.

He is very undependable. He does good work, but it's difficult to get him scheduled. He has several employees. Looking at the finished product, it looks like a good job. I wasn't really impressed, and I wasn't really upset. I have used him since, out of desperation. Handymen are hard to find.

I have a rental property in Utah, and I live in California. I had Alvin give me a bid on replacing grout in a tub surround, re-attach a falling gutter, fix a hole in a wall, and fix a rocking toilet. My tenant met him at the house since I am out of state. The first visit Alvin was early by 30 minutes, which is usually a good thing, but my tenant was not awake yet and didn't hear the doorbell. Thankfully, about an hour later, Alvin went back to the house and the tenant let him in. This visit he realized the toilet flange was cracked and our rocking problem would not be fixed with a new wax ring. He had to come back another day to replace the flange. He replaced the grout lines in the bathtub area. He did not fix the gutter this day. I called him later that day to see what he had been able to do, as he did not call me (the owner) to report on the work. We set up for Thursday the next week, and he showed up at the house on Tuesday. Remember, this is a RENTAL, and I like to give my tenants a day or so notice to be respectful of their time. Thankfully, someone was home, when they usually are not. Alvin apologized and said he had a mix-up in his schedule book. So the gutter was fixed that day, and the repair for the toilet flange would not work because more pipes had to be cut to replace the flange. Also, after the first visit, my tenant reported to me that there were gaps in the recently replaced grout lines, so this trip, Alvin touched up the missed spots (apparently some of the grout had sunken in, leaving gaps). The toilet flange had to be scheduled for the next week, and the floor around the toilet was left very dirty and messy. So, the 3rd visit Alvin was able to install the new flange and he charged me a very reasonable price for the extra work that was involved. When he left, there were a few things left dirty, like dirt in the sink, and messy floor around the toilet. I have a very understanding tenant, so she was willing to clean up the mess, but I got pictures of how it was left. I would never leave something messy that I was working on, and I expect the same from a professional. I was disappointed in the lack of communication with me (the owner), the mixed up dates and times, and the way things were left dirty. The prices were reasonable, and I was glad for that.
