 + 0 moreWe have used Dave Passey for all of our plumbing and HVAC needs for several years now. We first found them on Angie's List and they had great reviews so we began using them at that time. Our experience has always been great! Their prices are very reasonable, they are professional and courteous and don't send "scary" technicians out to your house. This is a small family business so sometimes you have to wait a couple days for non-emergencies, but based on their service and prices it's worth it.
Description of Work: We had our furnace tuned up and inspected in the home we had just moved in to the month before.

The willingness of Plassey to come back, forego an expensive repair job, and eventually discover the real problem (as minor as it was) deserves highest praise. We gladly recommend Plassey as a first rate Plumbing Service that puts the interests of its customers ahead of easy money-making. As everyone knows when it comes to plumbing, a majority of home owners are entirely at the diagnostic mercy of the contractors. We would have grudgingly agreed on an expensive pipe-replacing job from Plassey's, but its willingness to correct the real problem in the pipes/faucet, as simple as it turned out to be, won us the eternal loyalty! We would not think of contracting with anyone else for the future plumbing job that is bound to happen sooner or later in out beloved but old Victorian home.
Description of Work: Problem: low water flow in the tub/shower of our downstairs bathroom. Passey sent a plumber right away. The plumber determined that the problem was in the manifold that mixed the hot and cold water before flowing out into the tub/shower head. We agreed on the cost estimate and the plumber replaced the part in question with a new one which he had in his van. I inspected the old part and from what I could see agreed that it was thickly encrusted with sediments. After the repair, there was substantially improved water flow and we settled the bill. About a month later, however, the same problem of diminishing water flow appeared. Passey sent a plumber right away who told us that even though the new part was doing its job as planned, there was the deeper problem of old, narrow pipes which were suffering from sediments settling inside. (Salt Lake City has very hard water with a high mineral content flowing out of the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains.) Hot water pipes were typically more affected than cold water lines. For a while we debated the question of replacing the pipes. The plumber even went downstairs into our half basement to look into the adjacent crawl space and give us an idea of what all was involved if we would do a replacement job. When we went upstairs again I asked why both pipes suffered from equally diminished water flows if hot water lines were more prone to narrowing from sediments. This question gave the plumber the brilliant idea to check the bath tub faucet with the lever for the overhead shower. He unscrewed it from the pipe in the bathtub wall and discovered that its interior was so severely encrusted with sediments that it no longer permitted much water to flow through. After a thorough scraping and job the water flowed again at full strength. No need for replacing the downstairs pipes any time soon! There were no charges for the follow-up.

 + 0 moreThe plumber was able to come out quickly and work with a tenant to get the plumbing issues resolved. They did a good job of fixing the problems. I thought they were too expensive for both parts and labor. Two hours of labor was $256 and parts were just over $139.

I also appreciated the Angie's List discount. He showed up as scheduled, finished the job and was very professional. I would definitely call him again with any plumbing needs.
Description of Work: My 39 yr. old home needed a pressure regulator valve as my water pressure was about twice what it should be, putting extra stress on my plumping and hot water heater. I have a potential buyer for my home and didn't want this to be an issue with a home inspection so I called two plumbers for an estimate.

He answered the call personally, called me on my cell shortly before he arrived so I could stay at work until I needed to be there, and arrived approximately 3 hours after I'd first contacted him (even though it wasn't an emergency). He's friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I told him I needed a new garbage disposal because my old one had rotted through. He replaced it and also took care of a clog caused by the faulty disposal. Then he fixed my faucet, which hasn't had enough water pressure for a LONG time, with a simple trick. It now works great - - - and I was on the verge of replacing it! He also explained that the lack of water pressure had partially caused the garbage disposal problem. Then he charged me for less time than he actually spent AND gave me an Angie's List discount! All in all, this was a fabulous service experience.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced garbage disposal. Removed clog from kitchen sink drain. Fixed water pressure problem with kitchen faucet.

I was beginning to think we would simply have to go without a furnace this year due to the bids I received. Both of the prior technicians from other companies told me I shouldn't even think of repairing the furnace because of its age and because it would cost over $1700 just to repair. Dave Passey's technician came in and in no time had the furnace repaired at a fraction of the cost.

 + -1 moreI have a few stinky drains. I called these guys to come by and clean them out. The guy who came was punctual and very nice and professional. After about 20 min WE figured out that my stinky drains were due to some older and somewhat poorly placed drain tubes coming from my washing machine and dishwasher. He gave me a couple ideas on how the problem could be fixed. Then he charged me $75 and left. NO SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. He told me this was a "deal" because he should have charged more. I understand that it was a house call and he is an expert and I would have paid a bit for that, but certainly not $75 for a simple assessment of what he THINKS is the problem (which I helped to problem solve). I feel like I was really ripped off. I would not recommend them to a friend.
Description of Work: No service performed. He and I assessed the problem. That was all.

 + -1 moreEver love your plumber? I do! Dave Passey came out with a brand new high quality commode ( a Toto) and installed it and repaired the valve leak in less than a hour. He worked quickly, and effectively and cleaned up all the mess. He came out early and on time. He is a first rate plumber! The price for this was excellent. Call him and join the fan club.

 + -1 moreThey were punctual and fixed the problem immediately. However, my problem is that they CHARGE for travel time and didn't mention the charge until I received the receipt. They charge $120 an hour for travel and labor which is ridiculous and have I known they charge that I would have gone with another plumber. They were at the house for about an hour maybe hour and half max, so the fact that they charged me 1 hour for travel really upset me (especially at 120/hour). I would understand the charge if I lived in the boonies but we don't. The house is located in the city.
Description of Work: Kitchen sink was having problems in our rental property and they were able to come and fix it within the hour.

I started making some calls and leaving messages with the intention to schedule a service call for Monday since I wasn't about to pay "weekend rates".Dave called me himself about an hour after I left the message, told me he wouldn't charge any more for a saturday am service call and scheduled a visit with one of his technicians for first thing in the am. The guy that came was a real pro, in and out in no time. They were honest and didn't try to take advantage of us. Weekend saved! Thanks Dave!

 + 1 moreDave and an assistant came out and very quickly reworked the hose bib, redoing the internal feed and securing a new bib. I was so impressed I also asked him to remove an old garbage disposal unit in our basement sink and turn it into a simple drain and sieve. Excellent work all round, was at the house exactly within the timeframe given and was clean and professional throughout. Dave Passey plumbing may not be the cheapest plumbers around but there is no faulting the quality of the work or parts used. Will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: The previous homeowners had left a nightmare plumbing problem with an outside hose bib. The bib leaked then the back-pressure system failed AND it was not properly attached to the wall. I also had a blocked garbage disposal unit in our basement.
