Description of Work: Had leaks coming through the roof of our school that no other roofer could locate. They found that the prior roofers had used the wrong pipe boots for the job since we have a metal roof. They replaced all the boots, found some other leaks, sealed everything and were done in under 2 hours. The young man did in two hours what I paid two other roofers 3x that time and money.

[removed member name], we are a Utah company, and your address lists you in California. I cannot find your name on our lead list and am wondering if your negative rating for our company was left on the wrong company by mistake. We would appreciate you removing this comment as I am quite certain we are not the company you called.

Description of Work: The bid was written up clearly and on their corporate letter head. The Forman on the job came thru for us with a very short window and hard deadline to complete the job. After the job was done we had a few questions ...they came out a day later and went over our concerns....we will be definitely using them again to roof over the area when we switch out our swamp cooler for A/C next year. We are very happy to have a 50 year roof warranty.

didn't use them
Description of Work: I called for an estimate to replace roof on house & carport. Just got voicemail and left a message. When they hadn't called back by the next afternoon I called againg. They set up an appointment and were on time. Did a good inspection, sat in truck and figured out an estimate which they printed out and gave me on the spot. Of the companies I got bids from they were in the middle. Think they would be okay but felt that another company was more helpful and knowledgeable about what I wanted so I went with them.

chimmeny cap
Description of Work: Had a leak in my roof. I thought it was from another company, who replaced the roof (and went out of business in the recession). I had hired someone in 2011 to come and fix it. No luck. Got hold of these guys, they diganossed the problem (leaky chimmeney cap). I had another Angies list guy who came to the same conclusion. His bid was in 4 didgets. Thiers was 3. Chose Fortran. Not one leak since. Highley recommend for quality, and integrety. Rob Fullerton is a great, trustworthy, individual.

Did not use the company.
Description of Work: The owner of Fortress Roofing called personally and apologized that our request for a bid was not forwarded from the person first contacted in the company. He did ask if he could come out and give us a bid but we let him know that we had already contracted with another company. We appreciate the fact that he followed up on my complaint to Angie's List.

As stated above.
Description of Work: When I first called I left a message. After a couple of rounds of phone tag we were able to talk, gave my address, etc. Then a message was left on my machine stating he was in the general area of my house (stating he had the first 3 digits of my house number but not the last, unreadable or something??) but on my street. He said that he has work booked up through December and wouldn't be able to do my roof until Jan. The problem I had w/this is that he didn't mention this in any of our previous conversations/messages. I had told him that my roof is leaking and that the sooner the better would be best. He never mentioned he was booked out through all of this. Then, when he gets to my circle and sees that it is a small job (townhome), suddenly he's busy. Of course, this is an assumption on my part. Maybe he suddenly got a humongous job that would keep him busy until January. But my "phony excuse alert" went up. I think I am like most folks, tell me the truth (the job is smaller than he wants to spend his time on). Yeah, you run the risk of the customer getting ticked off, but frankly I'm more ticked off that a pretty flimsy excuse would pass as acceptable.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS. WE APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK. IT HELPS US TO IMPROVE OUR COMPANY'S CUSTOMER SERVICE. FULLERTON EXTERIORS IS A FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS. AS HOMEOWNERS OURSELVES, WE UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF HONESTY, RESPONSE, AND COMMUNICATION. WE STRIVE TO GET TO EVERY CALL AS FAST AS WE CAN, AND ARE ESPECIALLY CONCERNED IF A LEAK IS INVOLVED. IF, FOR WHATEVER REASON, WE ARE UNABLE TO GET TO A CUSTOMER IN A TIMELY MANNER, WE WANT THAT CUSTOMER TO BE AWARE SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN. IN THIS PARTICULAR INSTANCE, WE DID NOT RECEIVE A RETURN CALL TO OUR MESSAGE UNTIL LATER IN THE DAY WHEN WE HAD ALREADY LEFT THE AREA. DURING WHICH TIME WE HAD GOTTEN MANY OTHER CALLS THAT WE WERE WORKING ON. WE WERE HONEST AND FORTHCOMING WITH THE HOMEOWNER, WANTING HER TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE HER ROOF FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

I spoke with Robert and he gave me an estimate over the phone and said he would call me back the following day to set up a time to do the job. He didn't call, so I followed up again and left a message. He still has not called me back. I guess being that it was such a small job he didn't think it was worth it to bother calling back. Estimated cost was $250.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO COMMENT. ALL FEEDBACK WHETHER POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE HELPS US TO IMPROVE OUR COMPANY FOR THE GOOD OF FUTURE CUSTOMERS. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY MISCOMMUNICATION. HOWEVER, AS HOMEOWNERS OURSELVES, WHO OFTEN NEED MINOR REPAIR WORK DONE TO OUR HOME, WE CONSIDER NO JOB TOO LARGE OR TOO SMALL.

The project started fine, but we ended with significant quality control problems (nails showing all over the shingles; entire rows of shingles that were nailed so hard the nail heads broke through the shingles; poor finish work on corners, edges and dormers; step flashing that showed on top of the shingles; gaps between shingles and adjoining wall edges). The biggest problem was that they destroyed the existing "counter flashing" that ran all along one wall and then assigned inexperienced people to fix the problem. We ended up (after several call backs) with bent metal flashing marching up the roof with gobs of neon white caulk all over the brick. We reached an unhappy compromise where the owner finally had a siding guy come in and cover up the problem with a wide piece of metal. The siding guy did a good job, but the end result looks "clunky" and like it should be on a six story building. Like installing a 3 foot (instead of 3 inch) baseboard in your living room.
Description of Work: They redid the entire roof. Took off two existing layers of shingles and re-shingled. The bid included installing all flashings, but as you'll read below, one of the several problems that we ran into was that they reused the existing "counter flashing" (that's the metal piece that's installed where a wall intersects the roof; improperly installed flashings are the major cause of roof leaks) after wrecking it when they took off the old roof. That created a workmanship issue that snowballed into a major finishing problem as they tried different solutions. They started off on schedule, but the ten day project turned into a 6 week endurance test.

Crew of 5 or 6 men showed up on day 1 one to tear off old roofing materials, working diligently to complete task by end of day. Crew kept steps and walkways clear at all times to allow passage into and out of home. This was an important consideration. On morning of day 2, old roofing was collected and hauled off. The next day, a smaller crew of roofers began to lay the OSB, then the shingles, completing job on day 5, less some attic vents. This is a very old house (1904) and some "on-the-fly" engineering was required, carefully and successfully handled by Mr. Fullerton, who was on-site and available at all times.
Description of Work: Remove and haul off all original shingles, including multiple layers of wood shakes and asphalt shingles. Remove and dispose of existing gutters. Install new plywood OSB over roofing deck, felt, and shingles along with water shields and attic ventilation. Complete a final cleanup.
