These guys are phenomenal. Done in under 3 days (barring weather) and their work was meticulous as far as cleanup and quality. I would recommend them to anyone that needs a roof done. Thanks Travis, you are the best!

Finding the right contractor for any house remodel or repair can be intimidating. If you’re like me you are held hostage by your lack of knowledge and expertise. I knew I needed a new roof for the home we’d been living in for ten years, but because my roof is considered low pitch I didn’t which type of roof I needed or what a fair price would be. I started where most of us would: searching the internet for roofing companies. I knew I needed to have multiple bids, most people recommend 3, I went overboard and had ten roofing companies provide an estimate. After the first estimator came and went, I was despondent. His price was exorbitant and he was clearly taking advantage of my lack of knowledge. My wife and I actually called a realtor that night and considered just selling the home rather than going through the hassle of replacing the roof. Things did get better, and I actually found myself liking most of the estimators who came out. They answered my questions, and gave bids that were competitive with one another. I am, however, glad that Fortress Roofing was the last company who gave an estimate. I don’t know if I would have appreciated everything Adam Cordon said, did, and offered if he would have come earlier in the bidding process. Fortress Roofing clearly does everything a little sharper, a little neater, and a little better than their competitors. Those small differences matter when you are looking for a quality job to be done at a fair price. When I called Fortress Roofing for an estimate they said their flat roofer expert was out of town, but that he would contact me and set up an appointment when he returned. I was happy to wait; the truth was I was thrilled they had a flat roof expert. It became clear early on that they are proficient and experts in many types of roofing, and that they weren’t going to try and sell me something that wasn’t right. I appreciated the fact that they were willing to send out the right man for the job. I didn’t learn that the right man for the job, Adam Cordon, was president and owner of Fortress Roofing until he arrived at my home to do the bid. We had talked several times over the phone trying to arrange a time that worked for both of us. It was clear he had a busy schedule, but he always made me feel like a priority even when scheduling a free estimate. He never introduced himself as owner and president, but I recognized his face from the company’s website. Of the ten contractors who came out to look at my roof, he was far and away the best. He was personable, knowledgeable, and entirely focused on me and any questions or concerns I had. He had a lot going on that morning: a friend had an emergency that required his attention and he was heading to the airport a half hour after completing my bid, but never once did he seem rushed or in hurry. I was grateful for the full attention he gave me. Hid calmness inspired confidence. He had to complete the bid at my kitchen table, because his laptop wasn’t holding a charge and he didn’t have a car adaptor. Every other estimator did the bid in their vehicle. At first, I was a little uneasy having him in the kitchen. We have three young children and even on the best days our kitchen can be messy. But having him in my house made me appreciate him more. He told me about his family and I told him about mine. But this never once felt like a sales tactic. He was just a genuine individual. When I asked how he got his start in roofing he told me his story. What impressed me most was that he started by doing projects for friends, family, and neighbors. These were people he would have to look in the face long after a project was complete. It was evident that his early start of being accountable to real people still affects the way he does business. When all was said and done, his quote was not the lowest, but it did offer the best value at the best price. When laid side by side it was apparent that every bid that was lower was cutting a significant corner in the project. For example they wanted to sweep away loose gravel but not remove and tear away all existing layers of the roof. Adam Cordon and Fortress roofing offered a great price for a quality product, and they have stood behind that product. Adam has answered every one of my phone calls pre installation, during installation, and after installation. I am so happy with the finished product. I waited to post this review until we experienced a couple of significant storms. All I can say is that my new roof is amazing! And even a few months after completion Adam still answers all my calls and questions. I would recommend Fortress Roofing to anyone. The bidding process was upfront, honest, and comforting. The workers were professional and kept me updated on everything that was happening. They were quick, clean, and thorough. Not surprisingly, Adam Cordon, the owner, went above and beyond. He wasn’t satisfied with the how the siding looked after the roof was installed, so he replaced the old siding with new pieces at no additional charge. I have never posted an online review before, but I have never been so pleased with a project before. If you find yourself in need of a roof, you can’t go wrong with Adam Cordon and the Fortress Roofing team.

We purchased high end quality new shingles from Fortress Roofing. They company did a good job of removing old shingles and protecting home and landscaping. Installation of new roof was very good. However there were several unacceptable problems with the company. The satellite dish was remounted in the wrong place. We had to have the satellite company send out an installer. He found that the dish had not only been mounted back in the wrong place, but had not been mounted into a joist. It was already loose, a good storm would have torn it out. The installer put the dish on a new base as he didn't want to leave exposed holes in our new roof by removing the old base. Fortress roofing was asked on multiple occasions to come repair roof. They sent out someone to inspect the work needing to be done and was told they would take care of it, but no one ever came back to repair it. I made many calls, sent multiple email and a letter. But the company has never made the repair. One of our cars ended up with a roofing nail in the tire. Owner said he would pay to replace the tire. Unfortunately they were low profile, high performance tires with very low wear and both back tires had to be replaced--can't do just one side. It cost me over $400 dollars. I sent Fortress the bill and an explanation from the tire company and they sent me a check for only $100. Pretty sad, when I paid them well and paid them promptly. I was told i would be credited for the extra unused roofing shingles. Never received any credit. I had to call to get them to come back and pick up a lot of extra materials they had left. Ridge caps, vents, tools, valley flashing, shingles, etc. The site manager took part of stuff when he came to pick up final payment. No one ever came back. I stored 22 pieces, of very long, heavy guage color coated W valley flashing for a year, Company owner finally picked them up. I was very surprised to learn how expensive material was. The thanks I got from the company, None. They still never returned for repairs, never credited me for unused materials or made a fair compensation for damage to car tires.

It was a wonderful experience! Adam was prompt to come out and give us a bid. He gave us a few options depending on our financial situation which we really appreciated. We had family coming into town so they even got it done for us sooner so that we wouldn't have construction going on while family was here. Our roof not only isn't leaking anymore, but it looks gorgeous! The color is perfect and it is obvious they did a fantastic job. We had zero clean-up on our end and that was so nice.

Couldn't have gone better. Adam came over to give an estimate within an hour of our calling him. We consulted with many other companies, with some being lower and some being higher but what I was most impressed is Fortress was they were only one that showed me all of their licenses, references, proof of insurance, and roofing manufacturer accolades without my having to even to ask for them. In working with a contractor all of that stuff is very, very important. Ashley brought over samples a few days later and within 2 weeks they were on my roof. It took about 3 days and the cleanup was excellent. One nice touch they did is they painted the PVC plumbing vent pipes and the metal flue pipe to match the color of the new shingles so they blended in nicely. I didn't realize how much those white PVC pipes stood out until Fortress literally made them disappear.

A friend of mine had used Fortress in the past and highly recommended them. The owner of the company (Adam) was at my house less than 2 hours after asking for a bid. He took all the measurements he needed in about 20 minutes ( I have a rather large roof) and put together the bid about 30 minutes later. What I was most impressed with was before he even gave me the price he showed me copies of his Liability Insurance, his DOPL license, workmans comp information, and letters stating that his suppliers trusted Fortress so much that mechanics liens would not be an issue. As a former home inspector I was very, very impressed by all of this, along with the accolades from his supplier, bank, and others. He was the only one of 6 that provided me with this info. without asking for it. Because it was winter (he bid it out in late November) weather could be an issue but he assured me that none of the roof would be unprotected after the workers had left for the day (it took 3 1/2 days to complete). That was important as well. Adam didn't spend a lot of time trying to upgrade me to things I didn't feel I needed but I because of my past inspector history and doing some research I went with a GAF roof with all of the GAF underlayments and snow guards. What was also really cool is they painted my plumbing and flue vents to match the new roof so they didn't stand out. Before I had galvanized steel and white PVC pipe exposed everywhere. Painting them was pretty classy and it looks awesome. I also elected to go with ridge venting instead of the previously-installed turtle vents. It's extra cost but very well worth it due to the size of my roof and the number of ridges I have. His crew also did an excellent job of cleanup and I couldn't find even as much as a nail or nail washer after they finished. It has since rained or snowed almost every day since installation was complete and I cannot see any issues or leaks at all. They did a great job and I give them 2 thumbs up. Fortress was not the cheapest nor were they the most expensive, but I knew they were one of the best. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat.

Once the old membrane was removed they discovered that the roof would not drain properly if the underlying tar and gravel roof was also removed as provided in contract. You should have received the warranty from GAF directly, and I believe I sent you a copy as well back on 10/13/14 because I normally do just as a back-up. If not, I can call GAF and ask them to resend it to you. The bottom line is we care about you and value you as a customer. The above work was completed in a timely fashion and Fortress provided a written guarantee of their work with their $676 invloce. After the work was completed it did not rain or snow for a number of weeks. After the SLC area received a heavy rain storm a number of weeks later it became obvious that the quality of the gutter/downspout work was lacking. The gutter end caps that they installed on the upper gutters were not sealed and leaked and I could see daylight between the downspouts and the upper gutters. The length of the downspouts were also too long which diverted the water from the roof onto the masonry (which was what I was trying to prevent. Fortress Roofing was called on numerous occasions in late November and early December 2014 to come out and do some final repairs. They never returned my calls. I was finally able to get in touch with Adam in their office and he said another person would call me back to schedule the work. It is mid January 2015 and I still haven't heard back from Fortress Roofing. My feeling is that their written guarantee is not worth the paper is written on! Consider using another roofing company! If they can't get the small jobs done right, they certainly won't do the large ones well!
Description of Work: Fortress Roofing came to my home in October 2014 to install flashing between masonry and roof line in 2 locations. Fortress also recommended installing 2 kickouts a2 downspouts to keep the water from the upper roof and gutter from flowing against the flashing.

The representative, Mike, was professional and responsive, The workers were pleasant and professional. The work appears to be beautiful. Weather will determine the quality of the work. My only complaint is my furnace located in the attic was not covered and a lot of dirt and debris fell into the furnace. The result is the ignitor burned up trying to start the dirty furnace. It cost me $200 to have it fixed and it could have been prevented by a $5 tarp thrown over the furnace for protection.

Evan Phillips came out looked at the roof and and Raingutter. Evan indicated the roof had at least five more years of wear left and that $250 would take care of non urgent repairs. He also looked at my patio Raingutter that had been overflowing. Evan took off the downspout and flushed out the mud that was clogging it. I found his honesty very refreshing and most happy I called Fortress again. I will definitely call them when I replace my roof or need repairs. They are not looking for the quick easy dollar but long term customers. He did all of this at no charge.

Once effort started, it went well. Fortress coordinated with chimney repairs being done at the same time. There was some damage during the process to the rain gutter system, which they subsequently addressed in a timely manner. I would have rather had them thoroughly inspect all work when finished, where it would have been apparent that the gutter system needed to be fixed.

These people were very accommodating and flexible from the bidding to the information needed for me to make an intelligent decision. I got 3 other quotes and spent a lot of time researching. Fortress offered a fair price, trailers instead of dumpsters to haul away debris, enough workmen to get the job done as quickly as possible, and a good reputation. I even wanted to switch to another brand of shingles and it was no problem. Adam Cordon the owner adjusted the bid several times meet my specs. His bids were very easy to understand with no potential for ugly surprises. They showed up right on time and didn't leave until things were right. When I had questions, they responded in a courteous, timely manner. The owner even showed up to make sure I was satisfied with a venting question I had. Having a new roof installed is not fun, but the guys from Fortress made it as painless as possible. And it looks great without killing my budget.

They originally came out, removed the ice and snow to get at the roof area, and replaced some shingles and roofing material. This did not fix the leak, actually made it worse, and didn't repair the damaged support structure. They said they would come back out and look at it again to see what the problem was while we were out of town for Christmas, and they never did. We called when we got back, and they said they would be there on date X (I don't remember the exact date) before 9:00 AM. They showed up around 2:00 PM, and suggested $1500 in additional repairs. We balked (obviously), and they sent out a supervisor a couple of days later, and he suggested a much cheaper solution, and we agreed. He said he would be back the next day to put that into place. That was over a month ago, and he still hasn't been back. So, we spent several hundred dollars to make our problem worse. Update: They did follow up last week, and came back out. They performed a water leak test to determine the leaking area, and found it! Gary wrote down what they'd need and called the roofing supply company. I went and picked up the materials, and he had it fixed about an hour and a half later. Short version : it took a while, but they got the job done to our satisfaction. The only reason I say I wouldn't use them again is because we're moving to a condo and are unlikely to need roofing services.
Description of Work: We contacted them to fix a leak in our garage roof in November 2013. They came out and gave a bid that was acceptable, and we agreed to the repairs they suggested. They bid to repair the shingles and part of the roof, as well as part of the support structure.

They came out and did the inspection but wanted $150.00 for the estimate paperwork. I questioned some things when they did my roof like the workers walking off with the spare shingles something no roofer has ever done to me before. Also I now learn when they installed the ridge vent system they probably should have closed off the gable vents. This company probably would have had the job installing the new roof but due to their greed they didn't get the job and the shyster that did give an estimate spoke out of both sides of his mouth and caused the house sale to fall apart. I would never recommend this company again.

$150

Response from FORTRESS ROOFING
Our policy is that we always charge $150 for a roof inspection, which is different from a roofing estimate. The inspection gives the customer a written report of the observations of conditions, recommendations for repairs or replacement, and includes pictures. Roof estimates are provided for free to homeowners and can be done from satellite imagery or an on-site measurement. This customer wanted a pre-purchase roof inspection, so it was not an estimate and he was not a homeowner. We hope this explanation adds clarity to any perspective customers who read this negative review, but we invite you to personally give Fortress Roofing the opportunity to exceed your expectations. After all, we are the #1 contractor on Angie's List for the past 3 years! 2011, 2012, and 2013 Super Service Awards! We are proud to be in our 22nd year of business!
