Where to begin? It all started with a desire to get the roof to drain properly. There were multiple problems, including clogged and leaking gutters, improper flashing and drip edges. Most of the problems could be traced to the replacement of a tile roof with an asphalt shingle roof 6 years ago just before we bought the house. We got three bids from Angie's List companies. The first two suggested we could fix the drainage problems with flashing and leaf guards for 3 to 4 thousand dollars. The third bid, from Aspen, suggested that this was not an ideal solution because the roof had some other significant issues that should be corrected. The contractor, Ash, suggested a more thorough fix that involved stripping away several rows of shingles in order to install the flashing properly, and re-engineering the wood siding under the fascia with structural wood so that the gutters and drip edge would perform properly. He noted that the replacement of the tile roof with shingles was not done properly, leading to curling of the shingles and improper drainage. After careful consideration and discussing the plans with Ash, we agreed that his fix was probably the best one, even though it was the most expensive at over $9000. Once the roofers started the work, it became obvious that there were some further problems with the roof that involved rotted underlayment caused either by previous leaks, or as the contractor suggested, condensation from underneath the underlayment because of lack of roof ventilation. There were several places where it would be possible to step through the roof because of the rot. The contractor gave us an estimate to repair the rotted wood piecemeal or replace the entire shingled area after fixing the rotted wood. We elected to replace the roof entirely, even though the shingles were only 6 years old and in otherwise good shape. We also elected to install ridge vents to correct the lack of venting. The total cost estimate was now about $22,400. Work progressed smoothly on the shingles, but ran into problems when the new fascia was to be installed. Because the repairs involved building up the wood siding under the fascia with a one-inch pine board to accommodate the gutters, the fascia had to be specially build from several pieces of material rather than the original one-piece fascia that was removed. They first tried to use thin painted aluminum sheet to cover the underlying wood, but the results were not satisfactory because the fascia had noticeable waviness in it (know in the trade as "oil-canning"). There were several attempts to correct the problem by bending the sheet for more rigidity, but the results using the sheet aluminum were not too good. After several tries, Aspen hit on a solution that worked well, using a stiff aluminum product for the upper half of the fascia, and a free-floating vinyl siding for the lower half. Installation of the fascia turned out to be a time-consuming and tedious process because it involved a lot of custom bending of metal and careful fastening of the material to the re-designed wood siding. It took several weeks to complete this phase of the work. The installers worked tirelessly and carefully to do this work. The results when they were done were excellent. I doubt that Aspen made a profit completing our project. Although there were several problems with getting the fascia right, Ash and the other Aspen representatives never tried to talk us into accepting the work if we were not completely satisfied with the results, nor did they try to renege on the bid price agreed to. Everone was courteous and business-like. Because the project involved an engineered solution to correct fundamental problems with the roof and a change from tile to shingles, I can't fault Aspen for the false starts involving the fascia. When it was apparent that something didn't work well, they moved on right away to try a new solution. I think its a good testament to Aspen Roofing that the project concluded well in the end, with no one getting bent out of shape or raising their voices. It was the best possible outocme for a difficult problem, and they deserve a lot of credit.

Dear Member, Yes this was a big project and we too are glad that everything worked out with the drainage issues and were able to find a good solution to the various problems that came up along the way. That really is our goal is to get you into a ventilation and drainage solution that will last you long term vs. short term solutions that may end up costing you more money down the road. Thanks for the nice report and for your business!

Overall the job went very well. The initial estimate was friendly and professional, and the company representative was very responsive to my different questions and requests. There was some delay in organizing a date, and the technicians were unable to make the original scheduled repair date. However, the company owned up to the delay and apologized for any inconvenience. The work itself was very well done, its impossible to tell that anything has been replaced or had been damaged in the first place. We had a heavy rainstorm the day following the repair, and to our relief there was no more leaking from the vent leading to the swamp cooler! We're very happy with the work and would recommend the company to anyone looking to repair their roof.

Member, Thank you so much for the opportunity to have helped you with your repair. We are also glad that everything worked out well despite the schedule changes. We are happy to have stopped the leak and keep you dry, especially with all of the rain we've been experiencing this summer! Thanks again and feel free to contact us in the future if you have additional exterior weatherization issues.

Ryan did our estimate. He was on time and very professional. He spent a long time with us and on the estimate for the deck cover. He was able to think creatively to find solutions for us. The bid that they prepare is the best out there. It is online with links to the products and choices. The bid is originally done with their recommendations marked and priced. Other options are visible. When you click on one of those, the total is updated. Their bid sheet gave us the opportunity to compare the quality of other bids. We definitely would have hired Aspen, if we had not gotten a bid for the roof and solar combined that was too good to pass up. The other company was also very professional. If we had a second house, we would have hired both of them. I didn't see the actual work, but I can only assume that the work is equal to the sales process based on the references that they provided.

The initial inspection and proposal were performed quickly. It took us a little while to decide that we were up for having all of the work done, and by the time we got back to them with a signed contract it took a while to hear back on the start date. The crew showed up on a day that was threatening rain, but they were committed to getting the job started. Even through one of the worst cloud bursts of the season, they kept working, and got the roof sealed up and protected. The siding repairs and patches to remove the turtle vents all look brand new and blend in very nicely with the house.
Description of Work: Had ridge vents installed, at the suggestion of the company to replace the under performing turtle vents that the house came with. They repaired some cement board siding that had been damaged by water, and applied new flashing to protect the newly installed siding. Added gutter to the back of the house, about 20'.

Very fast and efficient. They showed up on time, cleaned up extremely well. They showed a lot of respect for the property and neighbors property as well. The roofing crew was very professional. I would grade the roofing at A. The gutter crew was not as proffesional. I was not real happy with the location of drains, in fact one low area overflowed after first rain. We had to come up with solution that was not expected, and I still have to do some work myself to get it right after the gutter guy came back and installed a drain chain. The gutters get more of a C grade.

We professionally manage hundreds of rental homes and Home Owners Associations along the Wasatch Front. We first called on Aspen in 2008-2009 to repair some wind damage to some siding on one of our HOAs. We called on them because our prior provider was charging us a fortune and showing up late, not available in emergency situations, and not following up with us on job status'. Working with Aspen was a day and night difference from our prior provider. Aspen is prompt, acurrate in their bidding, available in emergencies, professional in their workmanship and good at communicating. We now use them for all of our roofing and siding needs, probably hundreds of jobs later and still very satisfied. We have also refered them to friends, family and other property managers. We would recommend them to all.

Aspen Roofing was quick to respond to my call for a bid. Their price was competitive compared to the other 4 bids I received. I decided to hire them based on their professionalism, reviews by other customers on Angie's List, and their quoted time for completion. I was initially quoted a start date within 3 weeks by the owner of Aspen Roofing. When I gave them my down payment, I was then told that it would be 6 weeks before they started by the Project Manager. This caused a little frustration, but I was willing to wait. The job started 6 weeks after I put a down payment. It was now the middle of winter and around the holidays. Both of which I was trying to avoid from happening. But, things happen. I was told it would take 1 week to complete everything. Well, due to weather, holidays, and other circumstances, the project took almost 5 weeks to complete. This is an area where I feel they could improve. Near the end of the project where there are just a "few" little things that needed to be finished they would come out for a couple of hours instead of staying on the job to knock it all out. Part of that had to do with the weather. But It does appears that they are a busy company that is trying to meet the needs of a lot of different customers. When the roofers came, they were professional, courteous, consciousness, hard working, and most importantly, skilled. They demonstrated all of the qualities I was hoping to find when I hired them. They responded to all of my questions and calls. Even when I had to call them because some of the felt paper blew off in the middle of the night. They came out in head lamps and tacked it back down rather than wait until the morning and risk it leaking. This is an example of the type of company that you will be dealing with if you choose to go with Aspen. There are glitches along the way where you feel frustrated. Mostly with communication between the Owner, Project Manager, and Tradesman. But at the end of the day, all three were on the same page to "make the customer happy". And, overall, I am happy with the finished product. Eric, Phil and Eddie did a great job on the roof. They cleaned up after their work was finished and desired to make everything "right" and the way I wanted it. I felt I was treated well by this company. Everyone I dealt with from the Secretary, to the tradesman, to the owners were good to work with. *Note: if you decide to get your roof done in the winter, expect delays and be patient. Hiring good companies means that you are not the only customer they have. Bad weather and a busy company means that work gets backed up fast. You have to be patient and understanding.

I now have the best looking roof on my block thanks to the fine professionals at Aspen. Their bid was definitely not the lowest but that reflects the quality of their workmanship. I had hoped they would get started on the job sooner (which may be attributed to lack of communication on my part) but their timing was ultimately perfect. Very friendly and competent roofers and office staff. Highest recommendation.

The service that was performed on our duplex was excellent. My tenants have reported no leaks since the repair and Aspen Roofing gave us a discount to fix another area that was likely to leak in the future. Its nice to know they were watching out for us and gave great recommendations. I will be using them again for future jobs on my primary residence and on my rental properties.

We called in early November to request the work and were originally put on the schedule for November 22nd. Understandably, due to weather, it had to be postponed a couple of times. The reason they received lower ratings for this job was because my husband had to call them multiple times to try and find out when they would be coming. We always had to initiate the communication and were a little disappointed compared to the previous level of service we received. I recognize that this was a smaller job, but being proactive in communicating with your customers to set expectations goes a long way.
Description of Work: Added an additional gutter (extended 2 stories) where there was a low spot. They replaced the roof in August and said we may need an additional gutter in this spot and after a few storms we could see that it would be necessary, so we had them come back to add this as part of the complex integrated gutter system in our roof.

The Aspen crew was timely and competent. Rob offered alternatives to our shingle choices to keep within our budget. We also appreciated that he also suggested we put in a skylight where our old swamp cooler was instead of just roofing it over. When the shingles were delayed, we were notified. They cleaned up after the job was completed and Rob came and did a walk through for any items not to our satisfaction. They honored their bid and we appreciated their were no 'surprises' on the final price.I would highly recommend their services.
Description of Work: We had the roof reshingled and gutters replaced. Aspen had very competitive pricing and offered suggestions on how to help us with fixing a problem with snow buildup at the front door and sidewalk. They recommended a superb contractor, Jonathan Wallace, to build a new porch and the two worked together to complete the job before snow came.

They did not charge me until the job was completed and were timely in getting me a bid as well as the invoice after completion of the job. I used aspen roofing for rain gutter repair. They showed up right on time for the estimate. They were thorough and answered all my questions. They have a $250 minimum per visit, and my repairs did not come to that, so they looked for other things on the roof that needed correction. Sealing around a pipe and securing a loose chimney brace was included and the cost came to exactly $250. I would use them again.

Due to recent wind storms, several shingles blew off my roof, as well as several pieces of my aluminum siding. Because my husband is disabled, it is now up to me to arrange for repairs, which I dislike having to do... The folks at Aspen Roofing were very easy to work with in providing easy to understand estimates and what was needed to complete the repairs. Because their estimate was very fair, I went ahead and authorized them to replace my old leaking gutters. They completed the work in a timely manner and cleaned up thoroughly after. I most certainly will use them again for future roofing/siding needs, as well as refer them to my neighbors who are in need of roofing and siding work.

Aspen Roofing did an incredible job and I would highly recommend them to anyone! We agreed on the price ahead of time and thought it was going to be a 1 to 1 1/2 week job. However, it turned into a bigger job and it was certainly not due to lack of effort on their part. They started on the Monday as planned and ended up being there for almost 3 weeks, including the weekends. They worked very hard and kept a tidy job site. Since they had to tear off all those old layers of shingles, I was expecting a real mess to be there pretty much the whole time. Instead, the crew cleaned up the site every day and left things quite tidy. All of the guys that were worked there were very nice, polite, and hard workers. It was good to feel like I had trustworthy individuals working on my home. During the process, they discovered a low spot in one area that would require an additional downspout. They took care of this and when we got the final bill, we were shocked to find out that they didn't charge us any additional cost for this. I was expecting to pay more, especially given the fact that it turned into such a large project. Another nice touch was that Jon came by in person to deliver the bill to my husband and do a final inspection, going over everything with my husband to make sure that the job was finished right and we were satisfied. It's extra customer service that is hard to come by and they really do seem to care about doing quality work. With such great, reliable employees, high quality work, and outstanding customer service, I would recommend Aspen roofing to anyone!! Our new roof looks great and I will certainly be calling them back when it's time to replace the roof on our detached garage.
Description of Work: Entire roof removal and replacement. This was on an older home and the roof has integrated gutters, so it was a much more complex job. 3 existing layers of shingles had to be removed and it also needed to be re-sheeted. All the gutters had to be lined with some special material. I had never seen gutters like this - instead of being along the edge of the house, there are many pitches and valleys within the roof that channels the water down and out through gutters that empty through the soffits.

I was completely dreading the whole process of getting bids and hiring a contractor to re-shingle our house. We got 5 different bids from various companies, some family friends but most pulled based on the reviews from Angies list. Aspen was one of the last companies to bid on the roof, and I had almost not called them since we are in Layton and I doubted they would want to come from Salt Lake City. I am very glad we did! Like most of the reviewers, everyone I dealt with at Aspen roofing was great. Ryan came and gave me a bid within 24 hours of me calling, Robb was the project manager on the job and he informed every step of the way on what was being done and when it would be completed. The workers that actually did the job work courteous and respectful of our property. After they were done, the yard and driveway were cleaner than when they started. The job was completed right on schedule and with no ?gotchas?! I highly recommend Aspen Roofing to anyone in the market for a new roof.
