Standard Fence

Great experience overall. Originally he came in with a higher bid, but then came down to match another bid I received. The driveway gate he constructed is of great quality, and we are extremely pleased with the product. Great responsiveness, willing to negotiate, and wanted to make the customer happy. I will be using Standard Fence for further fence maintenance when needed.

Marty and crew scheduled us on short notice knowing it needed to be done by Jan 4, 2016 as we have 3 preschools and the fence provided security. The weather was miserable but they worked through it. But by new years day it still wasn't completed and i expected the normal contractor work ethic (job can wait ) but not in this case they were there new years day to complete the job. working into the evening. as a follow up there were some preschool specific items needed on the fence (locks, spacing etc) that needed attention which they did immediately. highly recommend and easy to deal with, in fact they just completed fence work at our other location and very satisfied.

Marty was responsive and bid our project in a very timely manner. The work was completed on time and within the quoted price. I highly recommend Marty and his team. The are extremely profession and very skilled.

He did a great job! His timeline was a little off because of the holidays and weather. We would use him again in the future and would recommend him to our friends.

Marty came and looked at the existing fence and the needed work. He then gave me a price and asked for half down with the rest due upon completion. A crew came about a week later and put in the necessary posts then a week later came and added the fencing and gates. While waiting I noticed that behind a yard shed had a missing section of fence, about 6 feet long. I asked the crew if they could fix the missing section they agreed did the fix and didn't even charge me extra. Great company to work with and the resulting fence was better than expected. If I needed more fencing or fencing repair this company would be my first call.

My biggest complaint was that he said he would be there the next morning, or between 10 and 12, then not show up and not call until 5 or 6 that night. He did that at least 3 days in a row. We completely understand that things come up, but you need to call before or at the time you said you'd be there, to let us know otherwise. There were a couple of low quality cuts and some boards didn't fit the very specific guidelines our hoa has. He also couldn't keep me and the person at the property straight, thinking we are the same person, but that's just nit-picking. He did respond quickly anytime we called him. I just can't get past calling 8 or 10 hours after he was supposed to show up. That is unprofessional and, in my opinion, disrespectful.

Except for a few delays due to supplies, power, and weather, the fence install went very well and the finished project is exactly what we wanted. We requested the install of 6x6 inch posts due to high winds, sandy soil and the interest in a long life fence. We are so happy with this fence, we are currently working with Standard fence to install a second fence across the front of the property.

We live in the mountains over SLC and have very sloping, rocky terrain. Marty and his crew built a beautiful fence with two gates and did a really great job. The fence is capped on the top and has a really nice, finished look. Despite the rocky ground and steep grade, the fence feels solid and secure. They also stained the wood, which we wanted in order to keep it looking good over time. The overall result is better than I had expected. Additionally, Marty called in advance to give us the heads up on approximate times they'd arrive with materials and the job was completed sooner than he had originally estimated, which was nice. Overall, I thought Marty had great communication, was accurate with the estimated price and he was accommodating when we asked for a few minor changes along the way. I would definitely use them again in the future.

It went really good. He came out last night and then finished the job this morning, no problems at all.

Marty responded to any voice mails I left him within 24 hours every time I called him. He gave me a competative bid on the work I wanted done and then didn't charge me more when his costs went up a little for the job. He completed the job on time. My fence looks good as new.

They installed our fence and we contacted Marty a short time after with some issues that needed to be fixed. We had some curbing they had to cut to make our fence fit and they cracked it and didn't even cut it smooth on the end. A panel they installed had a ding in it and once section of the fence was warping. My husband called and emailed him, I emailed him multiple times and still the issue have not been fixed. He stated multiple times that he let it slip through the cracks and he would get it taken care of. I would never recommend this company to anyone with that type of service. **UPDATE** Marty did finally get back in touch with us. He was able to come out and repair the broken curbing as well as replace the damaged vinyl. Happy with the end product, just wish it didn't take as long to resolve.

The crew was awesome, very polite and followed up as needed. Marty was very responsive, a few concerns were raised but were addressed immediately.

I'm sorry that my very first Angie's List review is a negative one. I contacted Standard Fence based on their reviews here. I called on about the 28th of May (Give or take a couple of days) The receptionist took my information, and indicated an estimator would be calling me back shortly. Well, it's now a month later, and nobody contacted me. If you look at the other reviews for this business, you will see another "F" review on Apr. 24, 2015 for this exact same problem. Do you sense a pattern? I have been hiring contractors for the past 40 years and I have learned that when things go wrong during the bid process, it should raise huge caution flags about the future conduct of the business. And when the same problem surfaces again inside of 2 months, then the caution flags get a lot taller. I overlooked the bad review back in April because anyone can drop the ball at some point. But, when the same problem happened to me and so quickly after that other bad review, I decided the only thing I would overlook this time is this contractor. UPDATE: Anticipating a counter response by this business, claiming I left this review for the wrong company, or that I never called them, I just pulled up my phone records for June. I found the phone call to their business (I confirmed the correct number) on 30 May, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. and it lasted 3 minutes.

We were very happy & impressed with the end product. They used great materials and were methodical when it came to putting everything together. The best example of Marty's craftsmanship were the three gates they built for us. They look well crafted / designed gates and the materials used should last many years.

Purchased deal in March and work is still going on. Came a week ago to power wash fence. Weather has delayed completion.

I called as soon as they were open on Friday. The lady who answered my call, took my information and told me I would get a call back. Before the end of the day I hadn't heard anything so I called again, and just got answering machine. I called the next day and got answering machine again. It is Monday and still no call back so I will be contacting another company.

I contacted 5 fence companies from Angies List and the Yellow pages for an estimate. Marty from Standard Fence called back immediately and came by for an estimate. After all the estimates, I called Marty back to make some changes in his bid to lower my cost. We signed the contract and I paid half on March 2 with scheduled completion by March 17. Marty showed up on Thursday of that week to install a temporary dog fence. On Friday one of his helpers arrived to take down the old fence and store it in the front yard. The following Monday Marty and two helpers came by to make the forms for the retaining wall, add rebar, and pour the cement. He also cemented some posts along the line. We talked about the fence height. I asked Marty to cut the boards a few inches on the north end to make the fence the same eight along the length. On Thursday March 12 Marty told me he would start the fence between 10 and 12 am. He showed up about 4 pm. On Friday he again said 10-12 am and after a phone call to him he came at 1 pm. I expressed my frustration waiting for him. He said usually owners are not home so he thought the time did not matter. I told him it mattered to me and I had cancelled plans to be home at the appointed time. Marty apologized for the misunderstanding. On Saturday March 14 Marty called several times to extend his arrival time to keep me informed. I told him I would not be home at the later time but to please come. He had to return on Monday for his final check. The fence is beautiful. The site was cleaned up and any debris hauled away. Marty at Standard Fence did excellent work. The fence is as described in the contract. It was completed in record time. I would highly recommend Standard Fence. If you want to be home for a project, clarify times and expectations to avoid misunderstandings.

Quick initial response to my phone call followed by a personal visit by Marty to my home to assess the projects. I was impressed with Marty's professionalism and the workmanship provided by his crew. I'm planning to have him return for a third project in April.

Marty came out to meet us and followed up with a written estimate. After receiving the deposit, he said his company could start the middle of the following week. They came sooner than that and in three days the fence was done. Marty personally came on site each time. The fence is very sturdy, made with quality materials, and he took the time to answer several questions. We are pleased with the results and have gotten compliments from our neighbors.

Marty came right over and gave us a bid that was very reasonable. He and his crew came out and installed the fence posts. Then his crew came and finished the fence a few days later after the cement had time to dry. Everything went great. We love our new fence.

The West side of the yard was a straight shot from the house to my neighbors fence. The East side was much more difficult with two different levels, an incline up a rocky wash and a ton of pesky landscaping rocks. I did ask for a small add on to marry up the two levels which Marty provided right away. All done in 2 1/2 days in freezing cold weather and did I mention a ton of rocks!

I highly recommend Marty. His work was punctual, professional and very well done. He made it a point to review the work both before and after it was competed. He made certain that I was satisfied and I was. It was a pretty tough job to do as he had to install a fence at the rise of a hill, on top of a rock wall. He was able to complete the work on time (in spite of the weather) and the job was done better than I had expected it could be. Marty went well beyond what was required, by even doing some extra work outside of our agreement. I will need some additional work done in the spring and will definitely call Marty to do the work.

Marty and crew did a good job on the fence. I purchased the Angie's list deal and then added on the gate, because the old one was totally unasable. There were some communication issues that were totally my fault (I was very busy and did not see their emails requesting my phone number). All in all, work was done well and fairly quickly. They managed to squeeze it in within a few days, even working into the evening. This is a rental property for me and I had a tenant with a dog moving in. They were able to complete the work two days after the move-in date with minimal inconveninece to the tenants.

Marty is a great guy and very easy to work with. He did and excellent job. Gates were adjusted to fit slope and it looks beautiful. I would recommend his work anytime.
