Description of Work: It was a furnace check up. It went ok, but while checking all the parts he tried to sell me a new igniter switch at a much higher price than I felt comfortable paying. Also, it is a part that was not necessarily needed at that time, though it was good to know for future reference it might need to be replaced.

Description of Work: Scheduling was good, technician James arrived as scheduled. Performed cleaning and checkout of furnace which had been working fine prior to this maintenance. After he left, I decided to try out the heat and nothing! Called him back and went to the furnace to check it out myself. He'd left the gas valve off and the AC power switch off. When he returned, he apologized for his mistake and then proceeded to test it out. The furnace went through normal startup sequence, flame started, and then shutdown (no fan blower). Further troubleshooting indicated that the control board was bad but he had to get the part in the morning. He called early as promised with a price quote of roughly $400 for a new board installed. Since the unit had been working properly prior to this "maintenance" and his previous mistake, I told him to forget it! I called my regular HVAC guys at Jones Heating and Air Conditioning. Jeff arrived promptly and verified that the control board was bad. He obtained the part and installed it. Furnace has been working ever since. Even though the Jones repair cost $522, I was happy with their service. Lessons learned: don't try to go cheap on your HVAC maintenance, stick with a provider that you trust, schedule maintenance well in advance of needing heating or cooling.
