the technician was great. He came to do a tune-up and did everything he could. He spent a lot of time showing my husband where and what in the unit that was causing our problems. He didnt try to sell us on anything and it wasnt a bait and switch. He was genuinely helpful. we asked for a quote to repair our unit which he provided and it was reasonable.
Description of Work: Service consisted of a tune up of our A/C unit. He was only able to do part of the service because our unit had some problems that prevented him finishing.

He was professional and nice. His assessment after opening up our furnace was that he found an evaporated coil, and dirty blower motor. It would cost $800 for the evaporator cleaning, and as he got into the furnace more, if he had to disassemble any other parts, It would cost more. The capacitor needed to be cleaned and that would cost $185. He said the furnace needed to be elevated so the filter would properly match up to the blower. That would cost $1000. He highly recommended purchasing a new unit which would cost somewhere between $6000 and $10,000. Overall, I didn't feel comfortable with his estimate because he continued to throw out different costs, and I began to lose trust in his opinion. He never checked the outside unit, and had he done that, he would have seen that condensation had built up and it was frozen because of a clogged coil. We obviously went with another company also recommended by Angies List.
Description of Work: The serviceman gave us an estimate for our air conditioning problem based on opening up our furnace. It took him approximately 35 minutes.

Dear Member, thank you for submitting your report. While I am not happy with a negative review it does give me the insight I need to train our employees better so we can fix it going forward. I spoke with your Technician about this call. I believe it comes down to two things. First, he didn't do a good job of communicating. He needed to slow down and effectively communicate as he progressed. Secondly, he needed to do a much better job prioritizing what repairs were needed versus what he thought would make the system operate better overall. Sometimes our Techs get a little over zealous and want everyone's heating and air conditioning systems to be as perfect as theirs. I am very sorry you didn't receive the service you deserve. The house was not cooling and I was in a panic as both of my boys had just undergone surgeries and my husband was on vacation. I picked up the hammer and threatened the hvac machine in the basement and swore at the air conditioning unit outside...alas, no response and I was desperate. I had just found Angie's list and called this company after reading some of the rave reviews now I am a raving fan too and very much appreciate them...
Description of Work: The company was willing to work with my CRAZY schedule and when Jared came out - he was an angel - heaven sent - he worked around (and through) all the animals - including the kids - at the house, fixed the HVAC unit, had the company come out and clean the air ducts and even was willing to come back when I had a leak from something else. - what great service providers - made a believer out of me: caring ,patient and took time to explain things - they are my new best friends!!!!

This is a company who understands customer service and I will use them again in the future. The tech could have critical of my situation as the builder mess up my AC but instead he choose to keep it professional and just do the work which great. GREAT COMPANY
Description of Work: My AC stopped working in the night. I called at 9:30 and was told that all the techs were busy but if there were any cancellations they would call me and get me in that day. Within an hour I had a phone call and the tech was at my home. Jim was the tech and he was very professional and informative. He had to cut into my wall to get to what he need but only did that as a last resort. He walked me through each step he was doing.

Description of Work: I used Mountainwest Heating & Air Conditioning for seasonal heating and air conditioning checkups and maintenance. They check all the furnace line for gas leaks and replace the furnace filters. They also check the balance on the heating ducts.

Their sales men and their repair guys were professional. They showed up on time. They cleaned up the mess. They did everything fine and I had no problems. I had to call back on a warranty issue; they came out and solved that without any problems. It was resolved.

I called and made an appointment to have our furnace looked at. They were willing to come out that day, but I made the appointment for the next day. I had to change the appointment because I had forgotten about a prior commitment. We made an appointment for the following day at the same time. Two hours before the appointment I received a call and was told they could come right then if it worked out for me. I said yes. A representative came out and assessed the situation. (Our furnace kept shutting off and I would have to restart it.) He had come out four months previously and cleaned our air ducts. He warned us then that our furnace could possibly go out soon. At that time he checked for CO levels and found 0. This time he found increased levels of Carbon Monoxide and explained that that was the reason our furnace kept shutting off. It was a safety precaution built into the furnace. He explained everything very clearly to us and told us of our options. Later that day two men from the same company came out and installed a new 95% efficiency furnace. Because our house was older (16 years), they had to find a way to channel the exhaust out of the house according to regulations now in force. They found the least obtrusive way. They worked efficiently and also put in some extra ductwork at my request to heat two bedrooms in the basement. The cost was exactly according to their estimate, they cleaned up nicely, were very cordial, and we had a new furnace at the end of the day.
Description of Work: A new 95% efficiency furnace was installed, as well as additional ductwork to two basement bedrooms. The problem was explained very clearly to me, I was told of my options, and they installed the new furnace that very day. The cost was according to the estimate, and they cleaned up after themselves and left us very pleased to have hired them.

The furnace at our rental property stopped working. We called MountainWest and they came out within 2 hours. They found that the sensing probe was malfunctioning due to a heavy layer of soot covering it. They cleaned it off and it has worked fine ever since.

A little disappointed that I had specifically stated I wanted the Natural Gas line to the grill moved if it was active and the service person was only prepared to evaluate the line. He reported he did not have any of the piping, values, etc. to do the work. Though he did make a call to the office to see if an "installer" was available to move the gas line sometime the following week. The "installer" called back later and asked if he could come the next day - Saturday. Furnace tune-up went well. Appreciated the honesty (to a novice home owner) that a green sticker is only done once - ever.
Description of Work: Furnace Tune-Up: Cleaned the "guts" of the furnace; hints on how to prolong the life of the blower; described what was wrong with the blower; expectations on life of the blower. Green Sticker: Informed me that since I already had one, I didn't need to have the service done again. Move piping for outdoor BBQ Grill: Service person was not prepared to do the work; he did an evaluation instead - confirmed the gas was "live"

Installation took approx. 2-hours overall. Manual which came with grill said a Licensed Installer should perform ALL conversion steps, but I could have done most of the grill modifications myself and probably could have saved some of the hourly rate/charges. I found it funny that the installer was a "typical guy" persona - he didn't want to read the manual . . . . . so several times I had to point out how to get to and remove the propane elements in order to install the natural gas elements.
Description of Work: Discounted the natural gas line for a non-functioning, out-dated outdoor BBQ Grill. Extended the line to a new BBQ grill and installed quick-discounts for easy moving of grill when not in use.

Called at 9.30 AM for assistance. Was promised service visit between 1 and 3 PM. Serviceman (Jim) arrived 12 12.30 PM (after calling for permission). Jim quickly diagnosed the problem and gave excellent explanation of the reason and ditto multiple advice for future self-maintenance actions, including for humidifiers. All over and done by 1.30 PM. Can't ask for better response or execution!
Description of Work: Exchanged faulty ignition controller and performed general check-up and minor service on this failed furnace plus two others in the home.

None, other than a fee of $65 for no service but to quote an inflated repair cost.
Description of Work: I used AL to find these guys, and agreed to pay the $65 service call fee. I wasted the $65 only to find that their repair was 2X other service providers. I called another service provider who made the repair for 1/2 the price with no service fee. I would avoid these guys unless you enjoy being ripped off.

Had 3 companies inspect my old furnace for bids on a replacement. The one I had was double the needs of my house size. They all recognized this, but only Mountain West was sharp enough to check the carbon monoxide emissions, which were getting dangerous. They were professional and efficient. My only complaint would be that they quoted either an Amana, or Bryant furnace. When they completed installing and I received the paperwork, it referred to a Goodman furnace. When I called about this they said that Amana bought Goodman and kept the Goodman name on the paperwork. The label on the furnace does say Amana. I would have liked to have known a little more about that from the start. They handled the warranty information for me and are sending the documentation so I can get a rebate from the gas company. All told: VERY SATISFIED. Josh and John did an excellent job, including several changes that were dangerously wrong with my previous furnace. Let's say I trusted a "friend" to install the previous system. If you like your life, go with these guys.

Overall, I am pleased with the tune up that was performed, but I hope they put that coupon back.
Description of Work: Called to have a tune up done on the furnace. Initially I was told that no one would be able to come till the week after. But, I told them that I was in a hurry, due to the fact that I was moving in. They were very accommodating and actually had someone come out the very next day. The person that came out was very professional and knowledgeable. He told me exactly what was wrong with my furnace set up, and provided me with an estimate should I choose to fix the problems. He went ahead and performed the tune up, and now I don't have to worry that it will break down in the near future. I had a coupon from their website for $30, which brought the price for the tune up from $80 to $50. Seems like they have removed that specific coupon from their website.

There is a very close heating and air company - Robert Love Heating & Air - located about 4 blocks away so I thought they would be the quickest response. As note: I have previously used Action Plumbing and Heating and I am not a fan - feeling they are deceptive and overpriced (However I do like their radio ads). I called Robert Love Heating & Air and the woman who answered took my information and stated that the manager was currently on the phone and he would call back with a service call time right after he was finished. I waited for nearly three hours (long phone call?) before I got a call back... I told the person who called to nevermind as in the interim I had checked Angie's List. On Angie's List I found Mountainwest Heating & Air. While waiting on Robert Love Heating and Air to call back I called and the owner Brett answered, listened to what I knew about my furnace problem, offered some ideas about what it could be and stated that he had a representative in the area on another visit and I would be next - likely in about 1 1/2 hrs unless there was a issue. Within 45 minutes Jim arrived at my home. Jim immediately went to work troubleshooting my furnace and went over in detail what he was looking into and why. He quickly found and explained what the problem was and how he was going to fix it. Jim also provided some current and future recommendations for my furnace system. However, he did not try to sell any additional services other than getting my furnace working. My service call lasted less than an hour. My experience with Mountainwest Furnace & Air was completely positive. They were prompt, knowledgable, professional, and courteous. I highly recommend Mountainwest Furnace & Air.
Description of Work: Furnace stopped working sometime in the night and I woke up on a Saturday morning to a cold house of ~56F.

The install went very well. The technician was very informative and professional and they were respectful of my home in terms of keeping the work area contained and clean.
Description of Work: I used the Angie's List promo to get a check up on my furnace and they discovered some major problems with my circa 1985 furnace that was n ot fixable. I had them quote me a new furnace and ended up installing a new furnace.

Very very well. Called at about 8am, was told they would they would be at my home between 3 and 5 the same day. They arrived at my home right at 3. Serviceman diagnosed the problem right away, the electric coil that ignites the gas was broken. He had the part with him and replaced it. He cleaned the gas jets, few other things and checked over the rest of the furnace. He charged me only the service call fee and the price of the part. The service man was very pleasant and professional. I was very pleased with the whole thing and felt the price was more than fair.
Description of Work: Diagnose reason furnace quit working. Replaced ignitor coil. Cleaned (gas jets, thermocouple, etc) and checked the rest of the furnace.

Extremely efficient considering tearing down the old furnace, installing new one, cleaning ducts and replacing thermostat. Be wary of companies claiming to clean heating ducts - this company knows what they are doing.
Description of Work: First rate experience. I initially requested an inspection and winterizing but found out the unit that heats the main floors of the house was seriously malfunctioning and spewing CO. The bad news - I needed a new furnace. They installed it that day, cleaned the ducts and a new digital thermostat. I was very pleased. I will have them come back in the spring to work on my air conditioners. Mountainwest, came on time and slightly under their estimate. They both explained and showed me everything they did and why. They appeared to enjoy their work. They also came 100.00 under their estimate.
Description of Work: Jim Murphy inspected and cleaned the outside portion of the furnace. He measured and adjusted the flow of gas and checked for carbine monoxide. He cleaned the interior portion of the heater that he could get to after viewing it with a camera. Josh and his helper came out and cleaned all of the airducts.He then took out the motor and cleaned it. Finally, he drilled new holes and attached parts that would allow us to use a much more useful filter.

Jim did a thorough inspection on a 26 year old furnace. More thorough than I have experienced before. Used a camera to evaluate status of furnace chambers so he was able to show me where one chamber was ready to crack. Recommended replacement for safety purposes. So, for that reason (I assume) did not do a tune-up or cleaning which had been paid for. However, did provide information and education regarding the types of furnaces, best options to meet the needs for my home and an estimate for replacement. I was impressed with the professionalism and knowledgeable advise provided. I did not go with this company's replacement because of the make of furnace available (which I was not comfortable with) and the price. However, the service that was provided was excellent.

I will talk with the guys and make sure they communicate that we can get any brand and customer wants and are not locked into any specific brand. Although most of our customers choose Amana/Goodman because of their great warranties. I know we are not the cheapest company out there but believe that our overall value for the money is quite good. Part of the reason we are not the cheapest is that I believe in order to get and keep good people is that you must treat them well and pay them accordingly. The technician took the time to explain everything to me in great detail. When I asked him about issues with our duct work, he gave me much more information than I got from two other companies I'd asked the same question to. He didn't just tell me what needed to be done, he explained why. That is HUGE with me. He was very personable. He probably spent an extra 15 minutes explaining things to me that did not directly concern the service he was being paid for. I was very happy with this company. We'll call them every year.
Description of Work: He came to do an annual furnace inspection and tune up.

My property manager made an appointment with the tech. The tech kept the appointment. I was not present; my property manager represented me and oversaw the tech's work. My property manager said that the tech performed the 'tune-up'. The tech noted that the filter was plugged....he installed a new one for an additional $13. The tech used a video device to show my property manager that the evaporator coil and the blower wheel were 'dirty'. He recommended cleaning of the evaporator coil, the blower wheel and ductwork. He stated that his company could perform this service for $475 on my 2 BR, 1268 SF condo. He re-installed the furnace cover and wiped the outside of the furnace. The coupon specifically stated that 'Cleaning' was included in the service....I assumed he would clean the furnace. I would assume that the blower wheel is not of the furnace. Perhaps the evaporator coil is not. I am left feeling that the $59.00 'Tune-up, Inspection and Cleaning' service provided by Mountainwest HVAC is a come-on for the REAL cleaning which is marketed during his visit. I won't use them again. Wiping the outside of my furnace isn't worth $59 in my opinion....I can do that myself in less than thirty seconds. I can also purchase and install pleated furnace filters at less than $13 each.

Member, Thanks for posting a report and for you comments. Although none of us like to hear that you weren't pleased with our service I do appreciate the feedback so we can use it to get better. After reviewing your comments and speaking with the tech I feel that we did provide the service that was requested and paid for. The tech did tune up the unit and cleaned the inside and outside of the unit. Intensive cleaning such as the blower motor, blower wheel, evaporater coil, etc... are not part of the normal tune up and cleaning. When the tech noticed the plugged filter and offered to replace it, he told the price of the filter. At that time your property manager could have just said no thanks and gone to the store and done it himself. Most of our customers, including many property managers, appreciate the extra time we take inspecting their units to make sure they are in good condition for the upcoming winter. Part of that inspection includes us using cameras to inspect areas we can't easily see. A dirty evaporator coil will cause the system to work much harder and overheat eventually breaking the unit and requiring a unit replacement. We don't inspect it to say "gotcha" you need to pay us more. We do it to make sure your system is in good working condition so you don't have to prematurely replace it and you can count on it to work when you need it. In fact most of our regular customers only pay for the tune up year after year because the system is in good working condition. But in the end I regret that you didn't feel that our services were up to your standards. Thanks, Bret Parkinson Mountainwest HVAC
