Great experience! Were able to get a next day appointment at a convenient time for us. Kris W. was our service man. The time frame was from 4-6 pm but Kris called at 3pm that day to let us know he could come earlier if we would like. However, the 4-6pm is still what we needed so he showed up promptly at 4 pm. He was wonderful. He explained step-by- step everything that he was doing and and seemed very honest. He was very thorough with the inspection and didn't seem to be in a rush and took his time helping us understand everything that he was doing and answered all the questions we had. The price seemed very fair in comparison to other companies for a tune-up, and with the coupon we found on their website, it was definitely a good deal for a quality tune-up. We will definitely use this company again and hopefully we can get the same service man!

I expected to pay the $29.95 for the tune up. then I came home and my husband said he was told we needed a new motor. @ a cost of over $500. They we're professional and nice. The previous year we were told the air conditioner was in great shape and not that old. This spring it was a different story. I wish I had been there when the service person was. I had this same experience with Whipple Plumbing and will not use them again. Jan

Customer, thanks for posting a review. However, I do wish you would have called me so we could resolve in concerns you had. I looked into you call so I could be familiar with it before I posted here. I can see how you could feel this way since you were not present during our visit. Part of the reason we do tune up and inspect equipment is because over the course of an entire year things can break down do to normal wear and tear. In your case the motor itself needed to be replaced. The motor is one of the work horses of the system. It is always working and under stress. For an analogy just image you let your car run as much as your air conditioner does during the summer. Over the course of a summer your air conditioner might run 1400 hours. By comparison if your average speed was 35 miles per hour in 1400 hours you would drive 49,000 miles. So it is and was possible that a part that was perfectly fine last year needed to be replaced this year. I hope you give us another chance to serve you so we can regain your trust. And please if you ever have a concern just give me a call. Thanks, Bret Parkinson Owner

he found a few cracks and heard the furnace shut completely off by itself making a rattling noise before hand which it often does- he also put a carbon monoxide detector on the furnace vent to measure any carbon monoxide leakage which there was up to a 6 which he showed me it kept going up, so since the furnace is 20 years old we are looking at getting a new one - I am glad to have had it checked out.

The technician came within the required time frame and was very pleasant and professional when he came. He did the tuneup but told me there were problems with my low pressure switch and possibly my collector box as well. He reported to me that it was fine on high pressure but not on low pressure and that when it went into low pressure it just shut down. He gave me an error code. He told me part of the problem might be the ow pressure switch didn't work at this altitude. He also told me there were problems with air flow. I took my vacuum and an air hose I had and went outside to suck out the outdoor furnace vents to see if that was part of the problem he was having. I then took it inside so he could vaccuum out the tubing he disconnected form the furance. He told me the next thing we could try was to cut the tubing and flush water through it to see where the air flow was being blocked. He asked me if all this labor was covered with my furnace installation since my furnace was only 2 yrs. old. I told him I would have to call the co. that installed it and talk to the installer as my warranty paperwork was not handy. I had let them know before they came what kind of Lennox Furance I had and that I knew I needed a new air filter that I hadn't been able to find at regular stores like Lowe's or Home Depot. He had brought the filter and charged me $72.00 to put that in. I had told him I knew how to put it in as it was easy enough for a child to do and I just needed the filter. He put it in anyway and charged me the $72.00. I then called the contractor/installer that had put in my furnace and had this technician explain to him exactly what he said all the problems were and to see if it was still under warranty for all that labor. The contractor/installer then asked to talk to me again. He told me all the stuff I had been told was not accurate and he was worried about me being ripped off having things done that did not need done and that did not need to be replaced. He stated the low pressure swtich was good at altitudes up at Alta Ski Resort and were fine at my altitude. He stated the vents did not need to be covered outside as that blocks air flow and can give you problems long term with the furnace. He also told me I should not have paid more than $30.00 for a replacement air filter. So basically I was given a lot of bad info. by this technician just to get more business and money for things that didn't need to be done or replaced. If I had not called the contracto/installer I had worked with and had this guy explain to him exactly what the problem was and what needed to be done, I would not have known I was being ripped off. As it was I did get ripped off for the $42.00 to slip in a new air filter that I could have done myself if I had had the filter. I would not use this company again after finding out the information I had been given was not accurate. If the technician did not know how to tuneup or now anything about the kind of furnace I had, I would have understood that if he had just told me that. If he did and just gave me bad information to make charge more money for things I didn't need done, that is not ok either.
Description of Work: I did the Angie"s List $59.00 furnace tune up special through Mountain West HVAC. Money spent was the $59.00 through Angie's List for the tuneup and $72.00 for a new air filter I could have put in and let the technician know I could do. I just needed the filter.

Dear member, usually I thank people for posting reviews because it give us the ability to make changes in our business and provide better customer service. However in this case I really wish you would have just called me to discuss this because this review is very unfair, in my opinion. Let me state my reasons why. First and foremost the $72 filter was a special order filter that you specifically asked us to get for you. Most filters are 1" thick your is 5". To get this filter for you our office staff had to call our vendors to find out who had it. Then the Tech had to drive there specifically just to pick up the filter. Then he installed it for you, which we don't charge for it is just part of our exceptional service. Given that it was a special order 5" filter and that we had to drive to pick it up I think $72 is very fair. Your furnace was having problems and we were only trying to help it run as best as possible. I know that there was some confusion with this as well because we would never tell someone to cover the outside of the flue pipe because that would be a very serious safety issue. Again I really wish you would have just called me to clear this up. Thanks, Bret Parkinson Owner

the guy told me that the capacitors in both units were leaking and needed to be replaced at $189 each. Something else in the furnace had to be cleaned that would take 3 hours and $400. That was not in my budget, so I put it on my list of to do's. Meanwhile, hubby called in his hvac guy for our apartments, and he looked at the units and said they were fine, showed me the capacitors and said they not only weren't leaking but that he'd never seen them leak on this particular brand. He also checked the furnace and said that all was well, just needed to change the filters, and that buying the expensive ones off the other guys truck was a waste of money...just use the cheap ones and replace them monthly-and religiously! Stayed cool all summer. guessin' we'll be fine this winter as well. As long as we change the filters!

Customer, first of all thanks for posting a review. While of course we never want to let someone down, it is also important to know when we do so we can talk about it and make the appropriate changes. I can certainly understand why you feel the way you do and really wish you could have called me directly so I could resolve this concern. There are a lot of conflicting opinions in our industry and it is easy to get differing opinions while looking at the same piece of equipment. I could go into why we mention certain signs of wear and tear on particular parts or why we would believe in better air filtration while another company in our industry might believe in using "just the cheap ones". But I don't think that is the real issue. I think the real issue is simply just a matter of who you trust and what their business philosophy is. Our philosophy is maintenance first to reduce repairs and prolong replacements. Most importantly, we would never do anything untrustworthy and lose the trust and credibility we have with our customers and the community. Lastly, I am personally very sorry you felt you couldn't trust us and hope that someday you'll consider giving us another chance. Thanks, Bret Parkinson Owner

Quick, efficient, professional, courteous, fair. That pretty well covers it.
Description of Work: The person who showed up at my house was named Randy, and he was slated to be there between 8:00 & 10:00. He pulled up in front of my house at 8:02, really quite prompt. Very professional in checking my heater, blower, circuits, burners, ingighters, and all of the associated safety interlocks. Complimented me on having a large supply of air filters on hand for the furnace. He indicated to me that he had never been to a house where someone had several on hand like I had. Indicated to me that the igniter might be going bad, but with this type of device, it could last 10 days or 10 years. His suggestion was to wait and see if the device failed. It would be a simple R & R. Cleaned the burners, removed excess dirt and dust from the heater, and ensured there were no gas leaks, and that the burners were tuned properly.

I needed a new thermostat, and was in process of ordering one, but I called to schedule a tune up and install before my Nest thermostat had actually arrived (but I had a confirmation date). The person on the phone said I had to wait until I had the thermostat "in my hands" before I could schedule the appointment. But, the services I wanted (install and tune-up) would only be about 3 days out. That sounded fair? After receiving the thermostat, I called them back. Now I was told that they were out a month. I scheduled anyway... I called Service Experts back a few days later and asked if there was anything earlier, they said no. The gentleman on the phone was very polite, and verified my info - However, the info on my "account" was the previous owner. The person I scheduled with didn't update any of the information she had asked me for. He updated all of the info, and said he could put me on a list (I forget what he called it), but here's the kicker - I would lose my set appointment date a month out, and he couldn't guarantee they could make it out before that date, or even by that date. After explaining to him why that made no sense, he said he would have dispatch call me - it would probably take 2 hours for them to call me back. Five days later, and still no call. Another company that I am using to do my vent cleaning (that I trust very much, and will be reviewing here soon) recommended another company. The company I'm now going with hasn't got any recent reviews on Angie?s List, but I'm taking that chance. They will be getting one from me after he has done the work that "Service" Experts couldn't. I was surprised that I had a bad experience with just scheduing an appointment after reading many positive reviews here.

I am also glad to see that not only did he clean and tune up your furnace so it preforms well this winter but also that he gave you some things to watch for. We believe it is our job to help you keep your equipment in good working condition so that it is there for you when you need it. Sometimes that means there are things to watch for but they should be fine and other times we may believe that they could go anytime and therefore are more urgent. But in the end we are giving you our professional opinion and are only trying to help, it is as it should be your choice to fix it now or later. I will let your technician know you liked his service in this weeks training meeting. Thanks Bret Parkinson Owner

I have used this company before and have always found them to be exceptional. So I decided to have our furnace checked out, taking advantage of their Fall Special on furnace inspections. The technician spent about a full hour checking it out. He brought to my attention a defective unit (can't remember the name) that's attached to the motor and suggested I replace it so as to protect the motor. He was very competent and knowledgeable, and very good at explaining things to me.

I had an unfortunate experience with this provider. I hired them to tune-up the furnace using their Angie's List coupon. They came out and inspected the furnace. Using their camera to look at the heat exchanger the technician determined that the heat exchanger was cracked and that I needed either a $1500 part or a new furnace. My furnace was condemned and the heat was turned off. I called a second contractor. He came out performed the same inspection and determined it was not unsafe to use. He turned the heat back on. In the mean-time, my husband arranged for a 3rd contractor. He also inspected the furnace and determined that the furnace was fine and only needed a tune-up. I called Mountainwest to get my $59.00 refunded and they weren't sure how to proceed because I had purchased the service through Angie's List. When they called me back, they said that differences of opinion happen and they would like to send someone out for a 4th inspection. If the furnace was indeed okay, they'd refund my money. I declined the 4th inspection.

Member, first of all thank you for posting a review. Even though we hope to always get positive reviews a negative review gives us insight into areas that we can improve on. Sorry it took me so long to respond to this review but it tooks me some time to look into every thing and try to determine what happened and what we could learn from it. Let me start by personally apologizing for not giving you the service and experience you deserved. It always pains me when we don't give a customer the service they want. And personally pains me when a customer doesn't feel they can trust what we tell them. One of our main priorities is to be the Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing company you can trust because we've all had an experience with a mechanic that tried to rip us off and eventually we find that mechanic we can trust which makes us feel so much better. We (I) truly want to be that company that people can trust and feel that relief. As far as the furnace goes it is hard for me to really know what to think or do unless I could actually see it for myself which is why we offered to come out and reinspect the unit. I believe that I can trust the Technician that was at your home and haven't had any other issues arise that would make me believe otherwise. That being said I can only think of two explanations as to what might have happened. One, our Technician saw something that he believed was a problem with the furnace but it actually wasn't. Two, what our Technician saw was actually a problem and the other Technicians missed it. The Technician that came out to your house from Mountainwest is a Heat Exchanger Expert. Passing an 8 hour training program sponsored by the State of Utah Weatherization department. This class is only held once a year and typically there are about 30 attendees from the entire State of Utah. I mention this because maybe because of his advanced training he saw something that another Tech may miss. I think of it kind of like a medical specialists knowing where and what to look for when a General Practicioner may not. But again the only way to really know is to look at it and find out for sure. So I will continue to extend the offer to have us come back out and reinspect the unit. Let me end by saying again that I am personally sorry that you didn't get the service and experience you deserved. I trully don't believe that our Technician intended to mislead you or lie to you simply to sell a furnace. If I ever found out something like that happened the Technician would be terminated immediately and we all know it. And lastly, I am sorry you didn't feel you could trust us. Thanks, Bret Parkinson Owner

I had Mountainwest Heating do a check/tuneup on the furnace in the house I bought 2 yrs ago and hadn't had checked out. It is an 18 year old furnace. The technician put a special camera into the heat exchanger pipes and found a crack in one, which causes carbon monoxide to be able to enter the house with the heat. I decided to have them put in a new furnace, a 2-stage 93% efficiency one, which they did today. Two other technicians were here for about 6 hrs to remove the old and install the new furnace and the new venting it needed. Everyone I talked with was professional and polite and they came when they said they would and asked me if I had any questions. I know someone who works for a heating company and I asked her how much it usually cost for a high-end furnace for a house my size, she said about $5,000, a lot more than I paid.
Description of Work: New furnace installation in a single family house.

Thanks for posting a review. I agree with you in that having your furnace checked out on a home you recently purchased is very important. You just never know how the previous owners maintained their home. I am also happy to hear that we provided you with the professional service you wanted and deserved at a fair price. I will let your Service and Installation Technicians know that you were happy with their abilities and professional customer service. Thanks again, Bret Parkinson Owner

From start to finish the repairman was on time, he was knowledgable, but I do not think that he completely finished the job. He did not adjust the furnace to meet green sticker requirements. The second visit adjusted the green sticker reqirements and they explained the requirements. They went above and beyond to make the situation okay with me.
Description of Work: The repairman was very punctual and knowledgable. He trained me to put in my own filters and explained the heating process. However, when he was inspecting the furnace, he said that most furnaces in my area need a green sticker. He then proceeded to say that a green sticker is not really worth much. He did not adjust my furnace to meet green sticker requirements and he did not put a green sticker certification on the furance. My assumption when hiring a furnace inspector was that they would not only inspect the furance to run properly but that they would ensure that the furance meets all locally required codes. The company was very responsive to my concerns. They came back out on a second visit and put a green sticker on my heater. They wanted to ensure good customer relations.

Member, thanks for posting a review. We really do appreciate the "not so good" reviews as it allows us to train our team members to improve our customer service. First of all let me say that I agree with you. When you ask us to come to your home and inspect your equipment we are the professionls and we should have made you aware of what was needed to not only bring your equipment up to code but to also make sure it is operating safely and properly. Next, be assured I will coach your Technician to make sure he know what is expected of him and provides these services going forward. Lastly, I will contact you to offer you a No Charge follow up call and get you taken care of the way you deserve to be taken care of. Thanks again for your comments, Bret Parkinson

I knew something was wrong with my furnace, but never having owned a home before I didn't know exactly what the problem was. Not only was my appointment scheduled within a couple of hours of my contacting them via their website, but they arrived a few minutes early to the appointment. An examination showed that I needed a whole new furnace, which was obvious after we compared it to the second (newer) furnace i have in my home. I'd stayed home from work for the appointment, and so i was doubly pleased when they told me they could have the entire furnace replaced by the same afternoon! All three guys I interacted with were really friendly, respectful and professional.
Description of Work: Diagnosed a busted furnace and replaced the entire thing, along with new filters and a new thermostat system, all in one day.

They were very professional, prompt and thorough. They were quick to respond to telephone messages and emails regarding this job. I would definitely hire them again!
Description of Work: I purchased the coupon for air conditioner servicing. The week before they arrived the air conditioner quit working! So they diagnosed the problem and got it up running again. They were very good at explaining the issues with our air conditioner.

Technician came out in two-hour window of time agreed. Called when he was a half-hour out. Very courteous and capable. Took time to do detective work and got AC running again. Now two weeks later AC is out again. We called Mountwest, who again sent Jason. This time replacing fuse does not get AC running again. Jason detects that winding wires in compressor or shot and gives me five estimates at my request: for new compressor, new AC unit of same efficiency rating and two levels of entirely new system. He gives me price for swamp cooler, as we are told this is the most efficient system of all here in the desert. I appreciate the time he took to get these estimates, as I realize he had other calls to make. We are getting additional estimates before making a decision.
Description of Work: Checked HVAC system, to see why AC compressor did not come on. Replaced blown fuse and and reset breaker. Tightened leaky coolant valve and topped off coolant.
