Focal Point Landscape exceeded our highest expectations on a project they just completed to re-landscape our front yard including removing old material, replacing stonework, shrubs, trees, and flowers and adding drip irrigation. Ted Nichols, the owner of Focal Point and a Landscape Architect, designed a creative and beautiful plan to replace our 25 year old front landscape and to redo our island stonework and plantings. He and his team are true professionals. They arrived at 8 AM each day and Ted was on site personally to manage the project ensuring that everything went smoothly. We appreciated his communication and his flexibility throughout the project to make sure we were happy with his design and execution. The entire project was completed on time and within budget. We have already received many compliments and are delighted with the result! We can now enjoy an updated and colorful front yard.. Ted and Focal Point Landscape are great to work with and their results are truly of the highest standard.

We couldn’t be happier with the workmanship, great communication with owner Ted, a crew that was on time and worked relentlessly while at our home. This company was outstanding from the first contact all the way to the end of the job. He was very clear about his pricing, explained what he would do in detail. His crew came when they said, and just did miracles in my yard. I am so very pleased with the work and can't wait to see it in the spring when my Japanese Maple gets its leaves! He did a crushed granite walkway and it truly complements the wall as well as provides a very solid (and not muddy) walking surface between the wall and fence where nothing green would ever grow. I felt that Ted was honest from beginning to end. His crew was very professional and did a wonderful job of cleaning up and making my yard look like they had never been there, except for the exceptional and beautiful work.

They were on time, got the job done in two days in spite of rainy weather. The work was beautifully done and they cleaned up completely, so that there was no mess. They also re-routed the rain gutter out-flows so that my flower beds don't flood. I would highly recommend this company. I got 4 bids on this job. This company came out 2nd in price. Two bids were too much lower. I'm so glad I chose this company because I don't think the others would have done the job nearly as well.

The trimming and clearing was done well; however, the men doing the work left before checking with us and there were some areas not done to our satisfaction. Then we were told the retaining wall project was "not a big enough job for them." Considering they had taken up close to an hour of our time to review the situation before telling us this, I was particulary annoyed.

We are extremely pleased with the work done by Ted and his company. Ted was prompt with our request to improve our gardens and made great recommendations on what we needed - his price was very good. We received great value for his work and it was done quickly and effectively. No problems - everything went great! Our garden look wonderful!

It was a pleasure doing business with this company. The work was done quickly and thoroughly. I no longer have a mudslide down my front yard due to poor drainage and erosion issues. They fixed our problems. They also made our front flowers beds more beautiful than before.

This is the second time I have hired Focal Point Landscaping for projects at my home. Ted Nichols and his team are awesome! They do outstanding work. Ted is a degreed landscape architect and his planting plans are beautiful. I cannot say enough good things about the integrity and quality of work done by his company. In "short", they completely removed all the foundation plantings that have been in place since the 1990's, including three enormous Yaupon Holly trees. In the front borders, they dug out and replaced at least four inches of topsoil so the holly berries and miscellaneous weeds would not re-seed (Thank you, Ted!). They also, reconfigured and added to my existing irrigation system, moved two irrigation valve boxes, put a valve box around my A/C drain (my A/C guy wants to hug Ted's neck), lifted and reset all of the Oklahoma flagstone edging around the front landscape beds, poured concrete foundations in the backyard for the birdbath and large Japanese lantern, reconfigured the water egress for three gutter downspouts, replaced metal edging, and reset pathway pavers in the breezeway (side yard).....and that was just the first day. On the second day, the team planted 65 shrubs and perennials and four flats of pansies. Then they mulched the front borders, raked the lawn, washed the entryway and front walk, moved the entryway flower pots back into place, cleaned the flagstone edging, reconnected the hose, thoroughly watered the new plantings, and generally made certain that everything was left in ship shape order. I should also mention that all of this was completed before the biblical rains and flooding that occurred last Friday (09/21/18). I am happy to report that everything came through the torrents in splendid condition. I plan to use Ted and his team for any additional landscaping projects I may have in the future. I could not be more pleased with the results of this renovation. It has taken twenty years off the appearance of the property! Too bad Focal Point doesn't do personal makeovers....:) :).

The Focal Point team was fantastic! They listened to my desired changes & additions, were quick to provide a quote, called to let me know when the work would be performed, showed up early both days, worked really quickly, and left me with beautiful flower / herb beds. I couldn’t be more pleased with this experience.

Fantastic - finished product is better than we could have expected. The design stage really helped us to envision possibilities and Ted improved the design we had significantly. He really knows his plants and how to do layout do ensure it looks great. We couldn't be happier and will continue to use Focal Point for all our needs! We have already had them back to do some additional items including some flowers and another bed. We spent some decent $$, but got a lot of value for our money.

He was very upfront with us that his crews were booked up until late July, but timing was not an issue for us. The project work started on July 18, earlier than I thought it would be, and was completed in 2-1/2 days. The first day involved removing the dwarf mondo grass from the back yard, excavating & leveling the underlying soil, installing new drainage where the patio extension would join the old patio, and tying the new drainage into our existing gutter drains. On the 2nd day, a crushed gravel & sand base was put down for the patio extension, and Pavestone was laid over the patio extension and the existing old patio. The sand was sealed on the 3rd day. Ted and his entire crew are very professional, and Ted was on-site the 2nd day while the Pavestone was being cut and laid. He also did the sealing. Everything was cleaned up when they were done. The completed patio project exceeded our expectations. We used Focal Point Landscaping for a major landscaping project of our front yard and side yard in 2010 and were very pleased with the results then. I'm happy to say that the back patio project went equally well. I highly recommend Focal Point Landscaping and Ted Nichols.

I'm a return customer. Focal Point Landscape completed a project at my current home approximately five years ago that still looks fantastic. I contacted Ted Nichols, the owner, the end of March regarding my project. He's a degreed and skilled landscape architect with an incredible eye for design and function. He drew the perfect plan based on his first visit to my home and our conversation. The price was right and because I knew the quality of his work and service, asked him to put my project on his calendar. As promised he started the project the last week of May and completed it within four days. I had an existing bed and the crew was very careful not to damage any plants. Ted was onsite for most of the project for supervision even doing some of the detail work personally. He also gladly answered my questions, comments, and/or suggestions during the project and after. The entire project went without a hitch and I absolutely love it. (See attached before and after photos)

Focal Point did a beautiful job with my son's landscaping in 2011 so I knew I wanted them to do mine. We started in March with the initial design meeting. I wanted to keep some large trees and wanted to use stacked stone. The owner, Ted, drew up a proposal with a sketch of the design which I liked immediately. I submitted the design to my HOA and it was approved quickly. Focal Point is busy and it took a few weeks to get on the schedule. The work was completed in 5 days. Day 1 - demolition of old entry walk, edging, plants, etc. They also added French drains for 2 downspouts. Day 2 - pouring new concrete base for entry walk. Day 3 - laying flagstone for entry walk. Day 4 - laying stacked stone with mortar for front & both sides of house. Day 5 - new fill dirt, plants, mulch, drip irrigation, & landscape lights. The workers showed up promptly at 8am each day and were very neat. They left mid-day for their lunch break and otherwise were working away. Ted was there hands-on working with the crew each day. The plants that were used are a nice size. The landscaping immediately looked finished at the end of the job. My pictures don't do it justice. Ted was very responsive through out the entire process.

My husband and I were very happy with Ted Nichols and Focal Point Landscaping! We called him out in March to get an estimate on updating the landscaping in our front yard (adding a stone border to the beds, re-sodding the parkway in front of the house, removing diseased Hawthorns, adding additional perennials and seasonal color, mulching) and back yard (adding flagstone walkway, perennial shrubs to back and side beds, mulching, fixing drainage from a particularly moody drain), and cleaning up the shrubs in our side yard. His estimate came in a smidge higher than the two other landscaping companies we had out, but Ted was the only one who actually provided a "blueprint" of what he planned to do along with the pricing estimate. Ted was also the only one who seemed to listen to us when we told him about the challenges we've had over 17 years with our west-facing house and mature, super-shady trees. Other landscapers recommended basically gutting the yard and starting over from scratch (of course, that makes them more money), but we told Ted - and he agreed - that if we had plants that were working and thriving, then they needed to stay put. Ted and his crew came out this past week (he wasn't backed up for two months, but our travel schedule required we put off the work until May) and they did a great job! They showed up early and ON TIME (when does that ever happen???) both days and were professional and considerate. Ted is a hands-on guy and I was happy that he was in and out several times during the project and always seemed to have a copy of our design in his hands. He clearly wanted to do good work, and that helped to boost our confidence as customers. We have no complaints with the work of Ted or his crew. This wasn't a cheap project for us and, having been burned in the past by substandard landscaping companies, we were anxious about the end result. It all looks wonderful. When everything was done, he also took the time to make sure our sprinklers were covering the new sod adequately and ensured we hadn't sprung any leaks in our drip irrigation...he also provided recommended watering durations. I've attached photos of the great work - as a reference, the large boulders and daylillies were already part of the landscaping in the front, as were some of the larger shrubs. The pampa grasses/daylillies in the back were existing, as well.

We have used Focal Point Landscape over the past few years and have been very happy. The most recent work we had done was a complete overhaul of our landscape in the front & back yard, accent lighting added and re-sodded our grass. Ted & his crew were always on time, very professional and was quick to respond with any questions we had prior to, during & after the job was complete. We absolutely love our landscape! We have received so many compliments from neighbors and friends. He is our go-to guy for all landscape jobs.

Ted and his team did an awesome job on the projects. He quickly contacted me and prepared an estimate for all the areas needing work. He also offered alternatives to what I had originally envisioned given his extensive experience. Work progressed quickly (given the rain!!) and it was all done in a week. Ted is great to work with and I will use him again on other properties I own in Dallas. Oh, and this was all accomplished while I was out of state. Thanks Ted!!

Exceeded Our Expectations. Ted Nichols (the owner of Focal Point Landscaping) made very good recommendations for plants that needed to be added or replaced in our landscaping. They showed up when they said they would and every detail was checked by Ted. He updated and checked our drip and sprinkler systems and did a thorough yard cleanup of leaves and debris from our Live Oak. Outstanding service.

Ted was extremely responsive and flexible in scheduling as I was waiting on my new fence to be completed and stained before completing the drainage pipe and new sod. The crew arrived when he said they would, worked quickly and the yard looks great. We have not had a significant rain yet, so cannot comment on the drainage work but overall I am very happy with the service and would definitely hire again!

I would highly recommend Ted and his team. They were punctual and professional. Ted and his team went above and beyond our expectations. The prices were fair. Ted made sure that we were happy with the final project prior to excepting our final payment. Would 100% hire them again. In fact, I am about to give them a call to fix something that the City of Dallas screwed up.

After 6 years of living with the builder grade flower bed and landscaping, it was time for a change. We wanted to have hardscaping done to accentuate the stone in our home elevation and completely gut the builder landscaping and start from scratch. In the course of the process we interviewed 5 different companies some from Angies List and some that are not associated. After careful consideration across design, references, price and overall experience we selected Ted Nichols with Focal Point Landscaping. Ted's attention to detail on the design and "listening" to what our preferences were was spot on. Was Focal Point the least expensive, no, but you also get what you pay for. During the project itself, Ted and his team arrived on time, kept us informed throughout the 3 day project on what to expect. Ted's crew kept the site clean and immaculate during their efforts and made sure that at the end of each day the site was immaculate. Ted is a hands on owner with his crews and jumps in to assist them which is not commonplace anymore. The outcome of the vision and design was amazing and we have received tremendous feedback from our neighborhood on how the new front flowerbed had enhanced our curb appeal.

Ted Nichols (owner) met with me several times before any landscape work was done to provide design and landscape plant recommendations for this area. He and his team were at my house for 4 days. Each day they arrived right on time. Ted was very methodical on his plan i.e. inspect existing plants to decide which ones were worth keeping, added drains to downspouts, provided a soil mix to improve overall health of the soil, re-did drip system, fix sprinkler heads that weren't working, and then planted the most beautiful trees, shrubs and landscape plants around my entire house. Ted personally went to the nursery to handpick all the plantings (and he sure picked a lot of beauties for us). He then tested and set each irrigation zone, set A & B programs on my irrigation clock, fully mulched all areas and swept and washed my driveway before leaving. He even threw in an extra tree (for free I might add) because he deemed it necessary for the landscape design & balancing purposes. This was just the first landscape phase for my house, and Ted and his team will surely get the additional phases from me. I highly recommend this man and his team!
