Ted answered my phone call on first try; scheduled appt for landscaping proposal within a few days. Recommended drip line irrigation since we can only water twice monthly in Plano. Signed contract and work was completed when promised ! Ted was very prompt and returned emails within hours. Landscaping looked great! Programmed our sprinkler and drip line system for us. We will use him again when we are ready to add landscape lighting. Highly recommend Focal Point Landscaping! A+ on all aspects!

Our home was built in 1977. Only minimal updates had been made to the landscape in that period. Ted Nichols and his crew from Focal Point Landscaping removed a poorly constructed two-level retaining wall from our front beds. They enlarged & reshaped the beds. They also added a kidney shaped bed on one side of the lawn & a corner bed next to the house. All of these beds where then surround by a new stone border that is mortared in place. All beds got new mix soil, new plants that are drought tolerant/low maintenance and topped with hardwood mulch. They also converted our current sprinkler system to drip irrigation in all beds & around the entire foundation of the house and installed a new control box. They installed 12 spot/area lights across the front that are controlled by a transformer box/timer in our garage. At our request, they also added Bermuda sod to bare spots in the lawn. We had originally called 3 companies for bids to update our landscape. Ted Nichols was the only one who called us back - and he responded within a couple of hours. From that point on, he always responded promptly to all calls or emails with answers to all of our questions. We were very impressed with Ted & his crew. They cleaned up at the end of each day. Ted was in the middle of all the action. Everyday he was right there working along side the crew. They were able to complete all of this work in only 2 1/2 days! Our house looks brand new. Not a day has passed since the project was completed that we haven't got a thumbs up or compliment from someone in the neighborhood. In fact, we were so impressed with Ted & his crew that we have already another job!

We recently purchased our new home and wanted a landscaper who would take as much pride in the final product as we would. We used the reviews on Angie's list to begin the process and called Ted. He was eager to meet with us. Subsequently, he was recommended by one of our neighbors. So we decided to chose Focal Point. Ted and his company are true pros. All the personnel were friendly and attentive to our ideas and wants. The job was completed when and as promised. The project completion was accomplished in two and half days. Ted's pricing is very competitive for the superior quality. The quality of work and appearance of the final project is superb. What an accent to our home. Thanks Ted for an excellent job. By the way, Ted will continue to care for our plants on an ongoing basis. Thanks Ted for an outstanding job and excellent product.

I know spring is a peak work time for landscapers & obviously Ted is popular & busy. I appreciated he was upfront that he didn't accept jobs less than $2500. He said it would be later in April when he could get back with proposal & his calendar was booked through later part of May. He came out as scheduled in mid March to discuss my needs. I hadn't heard back at end of April so, sent email on status. We exchanged a couple of emails but results were just excuses -- "A. thought he'd emailed proposal B. would check his files C. now booked through mid July D. summer heat & water restrictions are negatives for new landscaping in late July" The results don't match my expectations when requesting services from a business.

Our front yard had been overgrown by overly mature landscaping which was no longer manageable and was overpowering our house, obstructing the view from our windows and serving as the local bunny hotel for many of the wild rabbits in our neighborhood. It was finally time to do something about it, so I did my research through Angie's List and after going through a bid process with select contractor's, ultimately decided to go with Focal Point Landscaping which had many positive ratings and a solid A grade. Right from the start and all the way through the process, I was very impressed with Ted Nichols of Focal Point as he was incredibly attentive and responsive to all my communications, whether through phone calls or email. He was very up front from the start by letting me know that due to the fact we were entering the Spring, they were pretty well booked up and that he would not be able to schedule me in until about 4 to 6 weeks later. We were not in a hurry to have the work done, so this schedule worked fine for us. However, I asked him to let me know if an earlier date opened up, to please let us know as we were flexible. Sure enough, a time slot opened up sooner than our initially scheduled time, so Ted contacted us and we were able to have the work completed more than a week earlier than expected. The work was completed over a day and a half. The crew arrived promptly on the first day and made quick work of removing all the existing hedges and shrubs. The crew worked in a very efficient and organized manner. As some were working the beds (prepping/mulching and putting in new plants), other crew members were working on constructing the stone border and converting one of our existing irrigation system zones to drip irrigation, as well as extending the drip irrigation around the entire house so as to serve as protection for our foundation (as opposed to having to use soaker hoses to maintain foundation). The crew completed most of the work on the first day and cleaned up well after themselves even though they were coming back the next day. The next day they came back to finish out the project to put in the rest of the plants, add more mulch to cover the drip irrigation system in the front beds and do a final test of the drip irrigation system. Once again, they cleaned everything up well before they left. Throughout the process, Ted Nichols stopped by to check in on the work that was being done and to answer any questions I may have. After the work was completed, Ted stopped by to do a final walk-through with me. The results were exactly as we wanted, with a few changes to the original plan where it made sense, such as the placement of a landscape boulder and plants that would grow taller where we did not have to worry about obstruction as there were no windows. Overall, it looks fantastic! We couldn't be more pleased and look forward to enjoying the new landscaping and watching it mature over many years. I am looking at the possibility of having some landscaping work done in the backyard this Fall and based on this experience will once again look to Focal Point Landscaping.

I found this company through Angie's list and they were exceptional. Ted, the owner, came out promptly to give us a bid to redesign our front flower beds. Once we accepted the bid it took about 5 weeks to be scheduled for the work. It was well worth the wait. We left it up to Ted to select the plants and stone that he thought best for the beds and it was to our advantage because what he chose is stunning, drought and frost resilient and with the drip irrigation system he recommended and installed will be easy to care for. I was so impressed with the professionalism of Ted and the entire crew of Focal Point. Throughout the entire process Ted returned calls promptly, kept me informed, as promised, as to when we would be scheduled and was on site both days of installation, not only supervising the crew but doing some of the stone work and mortar himself. He is seriously one of the most honest and informative owners of a company that I have ever worked with. The crew was fantastic and even on the first day when the beds were still in the prep phase and incomplete, they cleaned up everything to the point you could hardly tell they had been there. We have had several neighbors come by and comment on how beautiful our beds look. We will definitely be using Focal Point for our future landscaping needs. Thank you for a job well done!!!

Ted was upfront and honest on pricing, delivery expectations and after care. He actually was able to perform all the work ahead of the quoted start date he provided. His crew were punctual, cordial and professional. All work was performed timely, with quality install and clean up afterwards. Would without a doubt use Focal Point again

This is our second project with Focal Point Landscaping. We will use them again, as needs arise. Ted Nichols, the owner, came out and gave us an exact estimate, just like last time, and worked with us as we added and changed what we asked for initially. Very receptive to what we wanted. Final job was just as promised and crew was professional.

Ted, the owner was punctual, well informed, listened to our needs. Prepared a plan which met all of our drainage and patio remodel requirements. His crew were professional, efficient, and very neat. We are very pleased with our new patio space and the drains performed well in our first heavy rain.

Ted has worked really well with us - did a magnificent job and exactly as promised. He kept us informed as to the time the crew would be here. They cleaned up everything (and it was a BIG mess after two days of rain while they worked). We liked his work so well in the back yard that we have contracted with him for the front yard next spring. We made some changes in the middle of the job and he accommodated those very well and at a reasonable cost. We highly recommend Focal Point Landscaping.

Fantastic!!! Ted and his crew were Top Notch! Called him and he was able to meet with me the next day. He drew up a plan and had it back to us within a couple of days. When I originally spoke with him, he told me up front that he would probably not be able to get to the project for about 6 weeks. We were ok with that and appreciated his honesty. That Friday he called and told me he had to push it back further because of a large project. I decided to look elsewhere, but could not get anyone to call me back. On Monday, he called again and said that there had been a delay on one of the jobs and he could get me in the following week. Called again and said that spot had been filled, but could start the project the next day. The next morning, Ted and his crew showed up at 8 AM. We went over some last minute changes and they got to work. The crew was very efficient and diligent. They were there to work, I barely knew they were there. My dogs didn't even bark. They finished up phase 1 (removing existing shrubs and putting the stone in) and were done at about 3. They cleaned up very well and I was very pleased with the outcome. Came back next morning at 8 Am and started planting new shrubs and flowers and I think they were done at about 1. I would highly recommend Focal Landscaping. Very Professional and Quality work. We will definitely have them back to complete our other areas.

We have a sloping backyard, and when we had a new fence installed earlier in the summer, we also pushed back the fence to match the property line. When we did this, the slope became more drastic. We always planned on leveling the yard, but when we failed our inspection with the city because the fence was too high (it stood at about 12' including a retaining wall) we knew we had to get the yard level since they measure from the inside & we needs to get it to code. Around the beginning of August, I found Focal Point through Angies list & they had rave reviews. We scheduled to have Ted to come out while we were at home to discuss our options & the situation with the fence, and Ted gave us some guidance on the best way to go. He quoted us for the fill dirt (at the deepest side they would need to fill almost 4 feet high), the sod & installation, and sinking the existing sprinkler system. After another company came back with a bid just a bit lower, we asked Ted if he'd be willing to work with us on the quote, which he did. We decided not to sink the existing sprinklers since they were running on top of the new retaining wall and my husband could bring them down prior to them coming out. We waited until later in September to get anything scheduled because it was still hot & the sod would likely die immediately. Finally, Ted came back to us with a date, and said it would take them 2 days to complete the project. They showed up on the first day (early!) and got to work carting dirt into the yard. My husband hadn't had a chance to sink the sprinklers yet, so he asked if it was possible to add that in as well. They actually carry all sprinkler equipment with them to every job, so it wasnt a problem to take care of that too. And within the 2-day time frame. Awesome! Ted was there with his guys all day which was unexpected. Its not too often the owner of the company is out there with wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow full of topsoil. The next day I wasn't home, but I came back from work around 3pm to a happy, level backyard with sod cut to fit exactly where the new dirt met the existing grass. Not one patch of dirt or bare spot to be seen. We arranged for Ted to come back shortly and settle up, as well as give us some advice for the sod, and showed my husband how to tell when its rooted. Overall, we were very happy with ted & Focal Point, and will definitely reach out to them for future projects!

Ted and his crew did an excellent job. They did exactly what they promised and it looked great when it was finished. He gave us options and explained why he would use the type of stone that he selected. They cleaned up after the project was complete. I would not hesitate to recommend them or to use them again. The only reason I gave a B on price is that credit cards are not accepted otherwise the price was in line with other bids.

Ted and his crew were professional. They showed up when expected, finished the job on time, and did an outstanding job of keeping the area clean. They cleared, planted and mulched a tight space beside the pool without letting anything fall into the pool. I particularly appreciated Ted's flexibility in making adjustments once the job was in progress - minor things like moving a plant or two, and major things like changing the planned patio size. (No pavers had gone down yet, just the paint outline.) While early August is not an ideal time of year to plant in Texas, following Ted's care instructions kept everything looking great even through the 100+ degree heat.

My experience was extremely professional and satisfactory from beginning to end. Ted Nicholas created some great ideas and designs for us. His team was incredibly efficient and cleaned with their work. I have only positive comments about this company, reasonably priced as well.

He does excellent work and his price is reasonable. He is easy to work with, good about returning calls and shows up when he says he will. He and his men leave the area neat and clean when they are finished.

I was so happy with previous work that this contractor had done, that I decided to go ahead and get one more thing completed: installation of an 8' x 10' concrete patio with flagstone on the top. This was a 2-day job, as the old patio had to be removed and the concrete poured on Day 1; then the flagstone had to be laid on Day 2. On both days, the crew arrived on time and worked diligently. I was pleasantly surprised that, even though they had to return on Day 2 to complete the job, they did not leave their tools and equipment lying around my yard. Instead, they picked up everything and left my yard in pristine condition, then brought everything back the next day when they completed the job. The patio is beautiful!!! The flagstone goes very well with the stone borders on my flower beds, which they had installed for me approximately 3 weeks previously. The crew is extremely nice, professional, and hard-working. My property was respected and cleaned up flawlessly after the job was complete. I would definitely recommend Ted Nichols and his crew to anyone wanting this type of work done, and, if I have any further projects of this nature, I will most certainly call them.

Ted Nichols is a professional who does what he says he will do. He knows his business and worked with us to put in a complete landscaping overhaul in accordance with our needs. The house has been a rental property for many years and due to neglect, became a disaster. My son and his new wife moved into the house and Ted worked with each member of the family to come up with an agreed-upon plan. He transformed our front and back yards into a think of beauty. It is a pleasure just sitting in the shade enjoying the surroundings. I plan to enlist Ted's services on my personal residence in the near future. I would not hesitate to recommend Focal Point landscaping's design and work.
