Prompt response to request for service. Listened to needs and provided alternatives that were incorporated into design. Price was comparable to other estimates. Crew arrived as planned, efficiently provided agreed upon services, outstanding job cleaning the work areas. Overall very professional.

We called Focal Point to come out and give us estimates on the front stone borders and extending our backyard patio. Ted worked around our schedule to meet with us and was very informative. He answered all our questions and even had good suggestions. We decided to get the front borders done first. It was done within a few hours and we didn't have to be home. I will definitely call again to get the backyard done.

I contacted Ted late evening on Monday in which he promptly responded back with available timings to meet and look at my backyard and give a quote. We met that Wednesday and he gave me his opinion on what we needed to do to level the backyard, which I thought were great: wooden retaining wall with slight slope so as to not need a french drain plus holly shrubs at my patio drop-off rather than my considerations of a planter and I received a quote by the next day. The quote was reasonable pricing plus the timeline to complete was estimated to be a day. I was happy with the quote and the timeline and asked for the earliest that the work could be completed. I was told that he had a project so it would be one week before he could start unless it rained that Sunday, then his other project would be on hold. He contacted me Sunday evening to let me know that he could start and I responded in the middle of the night on Sunday to tell him to start and checked again on Monday morning early to see if he received my message. He told me he was loading up the supplies as we spoke. By Tuesday the following week after contacting him, my backyard was everything he said it would be. I am very happy with the results and the amount from the quote did not change. I also liked that there was a warranty on the retaining wall for a year and the shrubs for 90 days. He listened to my design request and delivered exactly what I wanted. His work is truly custom and the results show that. I am very pleased with Ted and his staff. We had previous pleasurable experience working with Ted Nichols and Focal Point Landscaping at our home in Fairview, so it was a no brainer to get him involved early in the landscaping of our new construction home in McKinney. Ted consistently has great ideas, gives a quality plan of what plants will work best where, integrated our desire for plants that could grow to maturity and not require a lot of constant trimming to look good. Recommends a lot of solid, native species. Met with me at stone yard to discuss our wishes for flagstone. It turned out beautiful. Specific choices for variety of crepe myrtle, fig, holly, nandina, etc were followed exactly. Recommended those plants the builder could supply, to stretch our dollars. Ted earned our business years ago, and is a pleasure to work with.

The crew arrived promptly Monday morning and began with removing the Bradford Pear trees and the metal bed border. I was very impressed that Ted. the owner, was not only supervising the crew but was manning a chain saw. The soil was removed from the side yard to make ready for the crushed granite. On Tuesday they removed the old yard, planted two new Cedar Elm trees, filled the side yard with the crushed granite, and installed the flagstone block bed border. On Wednesday they installed the new yard, mulched the beds and packed the side yard granite. Ted made some finishing touches and made sure my sprinkler schedule was appropriate for my new landscape. The crew was very polite and professional. The project was completed in a timely manner with quality workmanship. I'm very happy with my new landscape and there were absolutely no problems or issues. It really updated the curb appeal of my home. I highly recommend Focal Point Landscaping.

Everything went really well and as planned. One thing that is really nice is that Ted was able to answer some generic questions that I had in regards to landscape lighting (lighting was not in the original scope of work). Based on this information I was able to add the lighting to the existing project. The point here is that Ted was knowledgeable and accommodating to my schedule so that I could get the final result that I was hoping for.

The designs they developed and the plants recommended were great enhancements to the basic landscaping the builder provided. Ted was always timely in arranging for meetings to discuss his recommendations. He executed the new designs all in one day including new stone borders for several areas. We think it is a great enhancement to the front yard and can't wait to work with them on the backyard in the spring. Focal Points pricing is competitive -- we obtained 3 estimates and although they were not the cheapest, we felt their designs reflected more of what we wanted. Our neighbors also called to say how nice it looks and wanted to know who we worked with. We will gladly share their name and recommend their services.

The bid was roughly in the middle of all the quotes. Decided to go with an another provider only because I liked the design aesthetic and plant recommendations better. Overall, I won't hesitate to contact Ted again. He was very professional.

Ted and his crew were on time, professional and did quality work. It took approximately two weeks to get on his schedule. This was a relatively small job for him.

Ted and his crew redid our front flower beds earlier this year and they did such a nice job that we had asked them to do our seasonal color this fall. They removed all of the summer flowers in the front and back yards, planted pansies in front and back yards and spruced up the flower beds in both the front and back yards with mulch. The beds look great and it is always a pleasure working with Ted and Focal Point Landscaping.

This is my second project with Focal Point. Ted Nichols, owner, submitted an accurate drawing of structure based upon my input. Work started as scheduled and was completed on time. Ted was present on/off throughout the project. His crew was professional, arrived on time and the end result was exactly as I envisioned. Focal Point does a great job at a competitive price.

From start to finish, it went like clockwork. He submitted his diagrams and bid within a couple days of the consultation in June, and we arranged to have the work done later in the summer because we had a vacation scheduled. The day after we got back in August, his crew arrived at 8:00 AM to start the preparation of the beds. He had said the job could all be done between that Monday and the end of the week. It was actually completed on Thursday, a day ahead of time. It was amazing how fast it went. The guys who work for him were so professional and considerate. Because of the work in the atriums, they had to bring dirt and rocks through the house, but they protected the tile floors with carpet remnants and left everything clean each day they were in the house. Ted was on the property each day. He is a perfectionist who is very proud of his business and works to maintain its excellent reputation. Also, he followed up and came out two weeks after the job was done to check on the plants. We would hire Focal Point again. At the moment, there is not much else left to do, because this was such an all-inclusive job. It was a total transformation involving the front, the back, and the courtyards. My husband and I could not be more pleased.

This is the second project Focal Point has done at my home. Great result as expected.

Due to the severe flooding we had been experiencing, Ted offered to come by on a Saturday while on his way to his son's soccer game. He was the 5th contractor we had contacted. He explained what he would be able to do in a way we could understand, he was able to schedule us quickly and his pricing was very fair. He kept in constant contact to let us know when he would be here and when he was on his way. He arrived on time with his crew. Work was completed as scheduled. He told me that he would come back on Monday to add a second seal in the front "just to make sure". He didn't think it was necessary but didn't want to take any chances. The first seal had to set for 24-48 hours before he could do the second. He was here yesterday and completed the second seal. Honesty and communication are very important to me. Ted had both of these traits. I was very pleased with his work, would definitely recommend him to others and would use him again if needed. The final review will be to see how all of this holds up when it rains again :)

This was our second job with Ted Nichols & Focal Point Landscaping in the last 4 months! This job solved a drainage problem we have had for years. Ted & his crew installed two drain inset boxes in our lawn right next to the front sidewalk. The drain lines were placed under the sidewalk & parkway and were tied into the city drain culvert. Every time anyone uphill from our house watered or when it rained, water collected on our front sidewalk. This standing water not only resulted in an inconvenience for pedestrians, but most likely attracted mosquitos. The quote we received from the city was DOUBLE what we paid Focal Point and came with no guarantee or timeline to complete. Focal Point solved the problem in a few hours. They replanted the grass & cleaned up. Great job! We also contracted with Focal Point to build a custom mailbox in front of our house. It's constructed of the same stone they used for the border in our front beds. It contains an oversize mailbox and a custom stone address plate with the number & street name. It's a work of art! As we watched from the comfort inside our house, we observed the meticulous process. They measured, re-measured and used a variety of levels. When complete, they picked up every bit of stone, swept & hosed off the area. The work performed by Ted Nichols & Focal Point Landscaping has given our house what it was lacking before - CURB APPEAL! We wouldn't hesitate to use their services again or to recommend them to our friends - in fact, we have!

Fantastic quality of design and tree, shrub, and flower selections. Who would have thought that we could have azaleas, and new plants planted in the heat of July? It's completed, and thanks to the drip sprinklers system, our landscaping looks amazing. Ted and his crew are all very courteous, professional, and Ted was very collaborative in our design and made wonderful recommendations based on our input. HIghly recommend.
