I solicited quotes from a number of highly recommended providers from Angie's list. In comparison of professionalism, knowledge, adding recommendations and providing a through an timely, fair a very competitive quote, Ted Nichols was by far heads and shoulders above the rest of the individuals that also provied quotes. Ted was very professional and responsive from the first phone call requesting a quote, providing status updates on when the work will be performed, and through the completion of the French drain and Zoysia grass installation. Ted was very knowledgable and willing to offer suggestions when we first met regarding the drainage issue, and recommending the Zoysia Zeon vs. the Zoysia Emerald grass that I wanted to use. He went through the pros and cons of each one, which allowed me to make an informed decision to ensure I had the best experience possible. Knowing the timeline was a number of weeks out, Ted kept me informed on where I was at in the process. Once Ted notified when the installation would take place (3/18 & 19), he laid out exactly what work will take place each day. During the installation, he and his crew did a great job and was very helpful in identifying a number of locations where the gutters were draining as well. When the projects were completed, they left the property completely clean and only a beautiful new yard could be seen. Overall, Ted did an outstanding job and wanted to ensure he met and exceeded my expectations. I would not hesitate in recommending Ted, as I have already referred him to 2 friends who will be using him as well.

I'm a very picky customer, and Ted did some work for me 3 years ago. Ted is VERY responsive, timely and the quality of his work is top notch!. Ted came out & gave a quote, emailed the estimate. We went with Ted. The crew came out when scheduled, did the job, and Ted was with them. Ted followed up after the job to ensure we were satisfied.

They responded to our request for quote promptly (none of the other companies did) and came up with straight forward solutions to our drainage and irrigation problems. They arrived when they said to do the work, were neat and even saved our plantings that had to be moved out of the way. They worked to find a missing sprinkler control wire instead of charging to run a new one. They did not try to sell anything extra. Very refreshing to deal with and we would use them again with no hesitation. A great contractor!.

Great job. Ted's guys do great work and are in high demand, so be sure to plan ahead when booking. Very professional in both communication and the work itself. Once spring hits and the sod takes, it will be impossible to tell they dug up such a large area to fix my drainage issues. I'd definitely recommend. The work isn't cheap, but I've learned that you definitely get what you pay for and these guys are legit.

Ted called me personally, came and looked at the job next day. Quoted a price and scheduled the work. He was able to do the work one week before he had scheduled me. He went to the trouble to get approval of my neighbor to be on their property in order to do the work properly. Work was done in two days. Magnificent! Ted in very professional, very honest, very reasonably priced. And most importantly he is a great communicator. His crew was prompt, professional and friendly.

I had had all my front flower beds removed and major drainage work done by another contractor who only handled the drainage part of the project. I talked to several landscapers and picked Ted Nichols. His Angie's List rating is great. I liked the plants he picked, the plans he drew up, and his proposed price. He was prompt and professional in each step of the process. All the plants were put in this morning by Mr. Nichols and his crew. I especially liked that the owner of the company stayed on site for the entire installation. It was fast, it was easy, and it looks great. I will definitely use Focal Point Landscaping for any future landscaping needs I have.

Our back porch was flooding every time it rained due to the slant of our patio. I was looking for a solution to get the water away from the foundation. Ted was very responsive to all of my calls and emails. He came out and gave me a quote which was very competitive to the other quotes I had received. After mulling it over for about a month, I called to get our service scheduled. Ted fit me into their schedule the next day once they finished up a previous project. They were on time and worked diligently to finish up the same day. All of the work was cleaned up and grass was replaced where they had to dig for a drainage pipe. We were able to test the functionality that evening when a storm came through. We could see the puddled water flowing towards the newly installed drain, and after it stopped raining, the water was not standing like it had in the past. Ted followed up to check my satisfaction and arrange for payment. All in all it was a very good experience and hopefully has fixed our problem for the foreseeable future. I would use Focal Point again for any of my landscaping needs.

Our yards looked completely renovated when the work was complete. Everything was done in one day with a team of four people-- including the owner! Ted saw to it that everything agreed to was accomplished and then went the extra mile in several areas. The communication leading up to the actual work was excellent. Ted follows up quickly with email and phone calls.

Ted Nichols is very professional, courteous, patient and punctual. He sat down with us to plan the landscaping and gave us ideas of what would work and what would not. He gave us a date to do the work and told us how long it would take. Everything went as planned. He made this part of beautifying our house very easy. When I purchased my house, the front landscape was in average (barely) condition. The previous owners had not done any updating in years. My plan was to re-landscape the entire lot, front and back, but those plans kept getting delayed. Over time, my front yard became an eyesore. The grass was threadbare and, in many spots, non-existent. With every rain, a little more of my yard eroded into the sidewalk and street. I researched landscaping companies and based on positive reviews and examples of their work, I chose Focal Point Landscaping. The owner contacted me quickly and spent a considerable time reviewing my needs in person and coming up with a proposal tailored to my budget and may goal to keep ongoing maintenance to a minimum. There was no pressure and we reviewed it several times before I actually committed to the work. Once the work started, I was pleasantly surprised that he personally supervised and often participated in the actual daily landscaping work each morning. Based on the variable lighting (from very high shade to no shade at all), Zoysia sod was recommended. And, all the plants and trees were chosen for their heartiness in all weather conditions. The project was completed quickly and with no surprises. From the sod he recommended to the trees he planted, everything came out exactly as he described and as I expected. I will continue to use Focal Point Landscaping for any future needs.

We asked Ted Nichols at Focal Point Landscaping to bid our job because the reviews on this site were good of jobs of this size. His design was creative and obviously pleasing to us and his plant selections made sense. We talked to a person in the neighborhood who had used him and the comments were very positive. Ted was punctual in all cases - coming for and providing the estimate, responding to follow-up email and calls, and performing the work. Ted was on-site every day the work was done and actively participated in the work. When we had alternative suggestions for some of the plants, Ted was receptive and never defensive. He knows of what he speaks and politely either agreed with our changes or explained why he thought they may not be the best. When some of the plants were not available locally, he suggested alternates and even offered to delay the plantings to see if he could find them. His workers were conscientious and polite. They cleaned up the job site each evening and especially well after completing the work. When I had a question about a possible sprinkler leak, Ted promptly and without argument had it checked out (no leak) and called later to follow-up. Since Ted was so professional and easy to work with, we would not hesitate to use Focal Point Landscaping again and Ted would be our first call. You should give him a shot at your project.

Ted did an amazing job for us and we hope to use him for several years to come. The project looked so good when completed most of our neighbors asked for Ted's contact information. You can tell Ted has a degree, and loves his job. We were sold simply based on his plan. Our first visit was a basic meet and great, we gave him very little to go on, just told him to make it look nice. Very warm friendly person, makes it a bit easier to trust in their quality of work. He sent a landscape map showing what plants he would install and where they would be placed. I do not have a green thumb and had never heard of any of these plants. My wife and I had to google them all. Once we saw the plants and could picture it completed it couldn't get installed fast enough. His staff worked quietly and quickly. They were also very friendly. I was very surprised at how much physical labor was involved, but they skipped no details, extremely thorough. We love the finished project. During the day we just stare at it, and take it all in. Makes sitting on the front porch so much more inviting. At night the new lighting gives our house a completely new look. For the first time in 40 years the house has curb appeal at night. I love seeing our neighbors drive by slowly just taking it all in. For sod we went with Zoysia, based on Ted's recommendation. We love the way it looks and besides being resilient it is so soft my kids lay on it. Very happy with Ted's work and can not say enough good things about him. Would highly recommend him to anyone looking for landscape design and implementation. As mentioned above he does have a degree and a true professional in his field. With that in mind he is not the cheapest out there. There are plenty of landscape people who will throw something together for a cheaper price. Be wary of those. You pay for what you get. A lawn that lasts is worth the extra money. Not to mention the value it adds to the house now and for years to come. Thank you Ted and the staff at Focal Point. We have had several major projects done to our home in the past and you were by far one of the best to work with. Look forward to seeing you again.

Ted and I met twice before the job started to go over the details and decide what plants to install. He and the crew were very punctual on the appointed day and got right to work. They got through all the work in a very expeditious manner and the job wrapped up the same day. The new landscaping looks really good and I'm very pleased. I've used Focal Point Landscaping before and would use them again.

Wow! Finally a contractor who truly cares about his work. Ted and his crew were puctual, professional, and hard working. I have never had a crew clean the work area at the end of each day the way these men did. They worked diligently to create a beautiful, flagstone seating area. It went really well. Ted, the owner, was always quick to respond to my e-mails and phone calls. He was able to fit us in before our estimated date of service, which worked out really well. I was even impressed that he came back the next day to check on things, what we thought of the work and told us how to care for "our new yard". He definitely met our expectations.
