Five Star Painting did an amazing job to our house. It was completely white before and just had no color. Five Star came in and added the color that we were looking for. Their crews were respectful and cleaned up at the end of each day so that we could still live in our house. They finished when they said they would and did a great job. It was so nice to have a company that we could trust in our house.
Description of Work: We had our whole interior/exterior painted from top to bottom. Outside they replace rotten boards (including those where squirrels were getting in) and painted. On the interior they applied hand and spray texture to 4 different rooms along with painting all the walls, ceilings, and trim. They also painted my kitchen cabinets from white to black, and refinished all of my bathroom cabinets.

I called in the evening and requested a quote. A representative was in my area and was at the house within an hour. He gave me a quote and explained exactly how the price was derived. Painters showed up early on the start date. They completed the work early and neatly. The foreman came by and inspected their work and made sure we were happy with results. Very smooth!
Description of Work: Cant say enough good things! They were clean, professional, punctual, thorough in their work. Overall, I was very satisfied. Their pricing was the best and their service was top notch.

We have been recommended by family to use Mike Christensen because he is so detail oriented and honest. He came over and looked at 9 rooms/area to paint textured walls, 12ft ceiling, place chair rail, plaster portions of drywall, used multiple colors and good advice on how much paint would it take. Mike and his assistant, Stacie came and measured and advised what needed to be done. I was not in a hurry, so to schedule was convenient at the time that was best for me. They were able to work around when I had only one child at home while the rest were at school. They were able to determine how long it would take to do the project. Overall they were there for 1 week to 1 1/2 weeks. Mike's crew were very knowledgeable in what paint I needed. In the kitchen, was a different project. They had to put eggshell paint then copper/brown oil paint to create two tone wall. Excellent job!. Mike's crew were clean and very courteous. They were late at one time but I was called and informed that they were late and wondered if coming later would be fine. I was informed of all the times they were to come or not able to come. It was a smooth process and very clean. Unless I had a microscope, I may find imperfection but overall, it was pleasing to my eyes and and perfect to me and any guest that come through my home. One time during the painting in the kitchen, I wanted one color on a particular wall, but after looking at it, felt it needed to be another color that was being used for another wall. The crew had no problems changing for me. I was very appreciative for their flexibility as they probably deal with these issues all the time. When they were about to come, Stacie, the assistant confirmed the paint color, type of paint, size, and location of where to be painted. Then his crew came over the day before the schedule job, did a through look over to make sure what they need and then they reconfirmed what paint I needed. So it was doubled checked. After that, I had received many calls for recommendations and I gave my full recommendation for Mike's Five star painting.

It was a very smooth process. I had one of their estimators come out and walk the areas needing painting. She was able to give me a detailed report on the spot with the price. Once I set up an appointment, I was able to have their color consultant out to help me pick out the right shade of the colors I wanted. With her help and the painters help, we were able to find the right shade for my rooms. The painting was done in a very timely manner. A few touchups were found during our final walk through - most of the touchups were found by the painter himself that I would've never seen. I was very impressed with how fast they worked - they even moved all my furniture out of the way and back again. There was never any harsh words said from any of the painters or the production manager. I am planning on having them come out again to do more rooms.
Description of Work: They painted all of my main living areas including my Master Bedroom and Bathroom. This included drywall repair where our air conditioning vent was, and painting all of our bathroom cabinets. They also painted and caulked my exterior.

When we did a walk through with them (evern the owner's wife) their were spots they did not complete. There was paint on the floor, trim, on our windows etc. We gave them time to make things right, we gave them a cut off date to get the work corrected and they never came to finish. They made no effort to fix their work. Initially the job was good, however as the project moved forward the work got sloppier.
Description of Work: They were scheduled to come on the 10th but was not able to come because of a customer complaint they had to address. Their estimate was way off. They also were taking longer then anticipated.

I want to be very careful because I really don't like giving negative reviews. But sometimes I get so frustrated with contractors that I must give my experience with certain ones...so you have some facts so you can decide for yourself. My wife and I worked very hard to purchase a new home and although it needs some remodel work we are very blessed to been able to purchase this home. We first decided to paint home and knowing with any contractor or services you get at least three bids. (in the past we have used Southern Painting and Hutch-n-Son Painting both who had meet or exceeded our expectations) with this project I could not get a hold of Southern and did receive a bid from Hutch but he could not start as soon as we would have liked. I know my gut told me to wait but we just wanted to get this done on move on to next project. So Phil came out from Five Star (very important here - hence the name Five Star) and he did a great job of selling his company. So much so (in a non-used car salesmen way) he stated they pay great attention to details. So, my wife and I decided to give them a chance. I let Phil know the colors (if you use them note that it is an extra $50 every time you change a color) and we walked through on what I wanted to be done with some sheetrock repairs. In talking about colors I let Phil know I wanted Benjamin Moore Paint and without hesitation he try to sell me on Sherman Williams. This is another long story that I will not bore you with; but we did have a lengthy discussion on paint grades, and he should have been clear on what I wanted - too include low VOC's. Needless to say Benjamin Moore makes great products and often rank very highly in consumer tests. Not to mention my last two homes where painted with Benjamin Moore products and the product stood up. As with any paint company they all have a value line of paint and this was not what I was looking for but can you guess what paint they decided to buy? You guess it - the lower commercial and not with low VOC's...this was just the start - here are the following items that also went wrong; did not fix patch work to my satisfaction, paint on the trim, paint on the floors, paint on my sidewalk from cleaning there brushes, they cracked light covers and lost dimmer covers, and they moved a granite vanity that became dislodged from granite trim. At completion I was very nice to the painters and thank them for their work - I don't think it was my job to supervise them. After they left I immediately called their Supervisor and told him the items I was not satisfied with and he agreed to come out the following day. This is where it went from bad to worse - have you ever supervised or worked had a co-worker you liked but always had an excuse for everything...? Well this was one of those times - I will admit I lost my cool and feel very badly but I became so frustrated because his attitude was so "I can care less." So I decided not to have him attempt to repair any of patches but would allow them to attempt to fix vanity and try to remove paint from my sidewalk. By the way, the entire time it was "I don't think we did that, or it's because we don't use that kind of paint, or those stains on your sidewalk where probably there before from some previous painter..." Oh really...because I pretty sure your painter told me he moved the vanity so he could paint behind it, I am pretty sure I tried cleaning up the paint stains - as soon as they left, and I am pretty sure you should have asked me about the paint if you did not know about the paint. As with any review lots of details are left out from both sides and I am sure we will see some kind of posting from the owner to defend his side of things, but I am certain from my side of things this has been factual and left out any embellishment. So to wrap things up -- if you are looking for a company that has the philosophy that "pretty good is ok" then Five Star Painting maybe for you but as I told the owner I was looking for a company that strives to be perfect. He told be that was not realistic...I understand no one or no company can be perfect, but I do think you can strive to get real close. In this case Five Star Painting missed it on all levels.

Yes, this is the owner with your response as you suspected. As with any story, there are two sides, and I agree, that your data although factual is incomplete. I am very sorry you felt like you had a bad experience with Five Star Painting, there are many who would disagree with you, as we have over a 95% satisfaction rating, as we do a survey at the end of every job, well over 1000 houses painted in the last 3 years alone. Please allow me to address each concern in your review: Yes, the first color used in a paint job is free, every color after that is $50 per color per house. This is clearly spelled out on the quote, so there are and were no surprises. It costs more for multiple colors in labor and material, so we do charge for that (and this is pretty standard), we just tell you about it going in. You did request low VOC Benjamin Moore paint, which we agreed to. As Sherwin Williams (a quality paint) is our standard, I called Ben Moore myself to get the product and price before the quote was delivered by Phil. My painter made a mistake due to his unfamiliarity of the paint, and got the same paint, but without the green on the end of the name. So you did not get low VOC paint. We corrected this by giving you an additional $5 off per gallon, even though my savings was closer to $2 per gallon, but as is my custom, I tried to do the right thing. Yes some light switch covers got cracked. You bought a 50 year old house, and you embarked on a construction project. Some things get brittle (I think you showed me 4 light switches). Normally I would have been happy to help fix these but by the time you showed me, we all just wanted to part company. This had gone on long enough. On the Granite vanity, you ask my guys to move this. Then it didn’t line up with the part that was glued on to the wall. I went there myself, showed you the little stoops that the vanity was sitting on originally, which slipped out from under the leg in the move process. I put them back under myself, lining up the vanity as it was before we got started. This took me less than 1 minute to remedy, and it was remedied before we left. At this point, you are just looking for something to write about? As far as paint on the trim, floors etc. I believe this must have been minimal as all touch ups were done before we left. Paint on the sidewalk. As explained to you when we were there, paint less than a week old (latex as we used) will wash off with minimal effort. Any painting store, contractor, supplier will tell you this. We scrubbed in front of you for 30 minutes, and it looked exactly as it did when we started. This paint has been there for years, and you can confirm this with anyone you want to ask, that his honest. Yes we strive for perfection on ever y job. You stated to me that you expected perfection. I told you I can walk through any house and with a magnifying glass point out imperfections. I would ask you, do you do your job perfect? Could someone find holes in your work? Bottom line, we DO strive for perfection, but there comes a point where we tell you this is an excellent job. I did use the words this looks pretty dang good (my mistake in vocabulary), the bottom line it was an excellent paint job, and all issues were resolved to the point any reasonable person would have accepted.

Just bought a new house and wanted to get it repainted in my preferred colors but needed it done in a tight turnaround. Talked w/ several painting contractors but went with Five Star because they could meet our deadline, and they were less expensive. The estimate included only one coat of paint (except for a wooden ceiling beam, which required primer), but the owner swore the paint he used (a low-odor Sherwin-Williams make) would cover in one coat. The team showed up on time the first day; we went through the house and mapped out which colors for which room. All the ceilings were painted the first day, and things taped up. I came by twice daily to check on progress, which went very well. They were done in 3-1/2 days, and I requested the added job of repainting the fireplace to match the rest of the living room (not in my original request). I feel quite satisfied with the paint coverage, and the overall job. My one quibble is that the original estimate for doing the ceiling beam was $100, but it showed up as $150 the day the job started. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the email with the $100 estimate, so went with it, since it was more important to get the beam done than to fuss over $50.
Description of Work: Services performed including painting the entire interior of a new (pre-owned) house my husband and I just bought. That included the ceilings, walls, doors, and all trim, along with the wooden beam in the center of living room ceiling. And that included 5 different colors. The work needed to be done in 4 business days, from the day we closed until the day before we moved in.

Reed did the estimate, he arrived on time and I was pleased with the price he quoted. He listened to what I wanted completed and made good suggestions, including painting the ceiling in the formal dining room and what accent walls to paint in the Master Bedroom. He was able to schedule the job within the week. On the day of service they arived as scheduled. Reed an Stephanie did a great job and were very porfessional. I was amazed at how straight a line they were able to make on the rounded corners in the dining room. The job was completed same day. They cleaned up all the room after themselved and left me the remaining paint for any needed touchups. I will use Five Star Painting in Carrollton for my next paint project.
Description of Work: Five Star Painting in Carrollton painted three rooms (Master Bedroom, Formal Dinning, and Media Room). I also used them to repaint a rental property.

POORLY would be an understatement!!!
Description of Work: Whatever you do, do NOT use this company. I have yet to meet the owner which is quite surprising after the service they performed.I did my kitchen remodel as well as painting in other rooms while away with a guy who has done other remodel jobs while I have been away in the past and it turned out perfect!! However, this time, he decided to use a company that would paint and have a manager watching over the job to save him some of the hassle which was fine with me. WHAT A MISTAKE!!! Even after my guy spoke to the owner and they came back to see the mess they left, the owner still never came to my home...only sent service managers. Then he has the audacity to yell at my guy because they screwed up? REALLY?? He just wants to send a bill for their services and never do business with my guy again. Absolutely RIDICULOUS!!! His guys screwed up my home and have been here twice and still things are right and he wants to get angry at us because of what HIS guys have done? Pay you?? Are you kidding me?? This project should have been complete a month ago and it is still ongoing because of their inadequate employees. They got paint on my furniture, the painting job was one of the worst that I have ever seen!! They got texture and paint all over my NEW TILE!!! They left holes in the ceiling and walls that they were supposed to have fixed. This is by far the worst company you could possibly do business with in my opinion and from my experience. Think one of the most troubling things is they used inexperienced guys on my home and they brought a kid with them. The painter had worked for them for 3 weeks and the Supervisor had been with them for 3 months....there's NO WAY he actually supervised this job. They cleaned out their paintbrushes in my new sinks!!!!! Orange paint from a room across the house was all over my carpet in my bedroom. There was also white paint on my carpet from the ceiling I suppose. The paint didn't come up smoothly to the baseboards and crown....no way they taped off the areas......there are actually parts of the walls that were completely missed and wall is white. When you own a company and your employees mess up this badly it might be appropriate to BE NICE and call the customer to apologize and actually fix the issues when you return instead of having to come back yet again. I will never recommend this company for any job....big or small!!

As thre owner, all I can say is not true, but everyone has their own opinion. The owner was never there when I was there, which is stated in her own post (she was out of town). The contractor that we used refused to pay us, we waited over a month, made multiple trips back out there. The honest answer is that my first crew did make some mistakes, and we sent an ACE crew out there to completly correct everything. My production manager was 6 months with the company, and is an Afganistan war vet. and is doing a great job, and is closely supervised by us who have more experience. The member was not even my customer, a company was my customer, who hired me and who paid me. I had no contact or relationship with the member as she was not my customer. The job was signed off and the "Contractor" who hired us, was our customer and cheated us on the money he owed, us, paid late, refused to meet with us etc.. What wasnt said was that contractor had multiple painting contractors on this job, and every complaint that was not fixed in short order was work done by the other painter. The contracor is very aware of this, and allowed the blame to be shifted to us to hide blame to himself. I would strongly stand behing my reputation and the thousands of happy customers that I leave behind.

Pricing estimate was clear, broken down by rooms and shows material vs labor costs. We had a crew quit after Day 1, they felt it would take too long to strip the wallpaper. The project manager promptly replaced with a different crew, and this issue ended up costing us only about half a day delay. The new crew picked up where they left off. The job took 3.5 days total. Billing was simple, credit cards are accepted. Given the hiccup with the crew change, the paint quality and professionalism was good. We will be using them again for other jobs in the house.

Thanks for taking the time to post a review of Five Star Painting. I know we had a crew leave on us during your job, and I'm glad Josh took care of it so quickly. I've heard it said that when things go well, its hard to tell the measure of a company, but the real test is if something goes wrong, how does the company respond. WE take pride in doing everything we can to have a smooth job, most of the time it goes well, but if somethign goes wrong, we really try to do all within our power to make it right. Mike

During the entire process, Reed's painters went above and beyond SEVERAL times to accommodate me (lifting items that were too heavy, replacing decor back on the walls when asked, cleaning under the refrigerator, etc. (which by the way, is NOT their responsibility). Once finished, they came back to administer "touch ups" where we deemed necessary (just as they said they would do), and made sure that we were COMPLETELY satisfied customers before collecting final payment. It was a great experience overall and we have NO complaints. We have hard wood floors throughout the downstairs which they were very careful in protecting. They are the neatest and most careful painters we have ever seen (and my daddy was a contractor, so I've not only done a lot of painting myself, but have also been around a lot of painters). They treated our home the same as if they were painting their own. Reed and his team performed the services he said they would perform, for the price he said he would charge, in the time frame he promised to deliver. It was an absolute pleasure having them in our home and we will continue to recommend them WITHOUT hesitation, to anyone that is in need of "quality workmanship" and "integrity"...at a VERY reasonable price. We don't think you can beat or even match Five Star's pricing... but even if you can, we guarantee as we said earlier, you won't match their workmanship or their integrity. Honestly, we CAN'T say enough about the team at "FIVE STAR PAINTING"...and we're so glad we did NOT think of their PRICING as a reflection of their QUALITY. Just call them, we promise you...YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! P.S. Please feel free to contact us personally at 972-691-7395
Description of Work: The team at "Five Star Painting" painted the ENTIRE interior of our home (ceiling to floor) in Flower Mound, Texas. They answered our inquiry for an estimate just minutes after we sent them a request. Reed showed up on time the day of our appointment, was courteous and friendly, discussed all of our needs and concerns, and then handed us our estimate. My husband and I looked it over, then looked at each other, and honestly could not believe our eyes! I even said to Reed, "are you sure this is your TOTAL cost and it is correct"? He looked at me a little bewildered and replied, "it's just paint...it isn't rocket science!" I have to admit, his price did cause us to briefly pause...you know the old saying, "you get what you pay for" (and sometimes the cheapest is not always the best)! To say the least, my husband and I were shocked! Not only was he LESS EXPENSIVE than the other THREE estimates we had previously received, he was THOUSANDS LESS EXPENSIVE! Most of all, there was a comfortableness about him that made us decide to go forward and sign a contract with him. He left us with a genuine feeling that he was trustworthy and that he would treat our home no less than he would his own. And he did...delivering everything he promised, and then some! In addition, we chose three different shades of neutral gold paint (a "pain" for a painter in and of itself)! The lightest shade for the ceilings, the medium shade for the walls, and the darkest shade for the accent wall in our family room. Even though we had originally discussed only one accent wall, they ended up giving us three...at no extra charge! In addition, although the original estimate for Faux painting our ENTIRE dining room (with soaring 22' ceilings) came in $200 under the actual cost per square foot...Reed didn't upcharge us, but instead, stuck to what he had originally quoted us! But, I have to say what impressed us the most...was the fact that we could trust them... ALL of them. I don't know about you, but I have NEVER in the past left my home while complete strangers were working onsite. But I did with them...on not just ONE occasion but SEVERAL! They had the complete run of our house, and we did not even entertain the thought of anything being taken or harmed in any way. Money and other items that were left in plain view, were never touched and remained exactly where we had left them. That alone speaks "tons" about the company and the people who represent it! Upon completion, he and his teamed left our home just as clean as when they had first entered it (they actually cleaned up every evening before leaving)!

The project went very smooth; I expected to hit snags per friends remodeling stories but we had no problems whatsoever. The painters were very polite and hardworking. I felt very comfortable with them. They finished the whole project in 2 days and asked us to go over everything to make sure the work was done to our satisfaction. I was very impressed with their professionalism. The walls look absolutely gorgeous and the color combinations look awesome! The kitchen cabinets look like brand new cabinets (totally a whole different look) and the paint they used is awesome! Very washable and absolutely perfect! Everyone that has been over have raved over how beautiful our house looks with the new paint. Our house now looks warm and inviting. My husband and I couldn't be happier with the work Reed and his crew did. We will definitely use them when we need painting again!
Description of Work: Reed came and my husband and I went over what we wanted. Reed measured all the rooms we wanted painted, gave us an estimate which was way lower than the other 2 estimates we received from 2 other companies. We signed the contract. With the service they included a free color consultation with Mrs. Bales and she came over a few days later and was extremely helpful with picking the room colors. We had no idea what would look good and relied on her expertise and experience. Before the actual painting date came my husband and I decided to get a quote for repainting our kitchen cabinets. Again we were impressed with the quote and decided to go with it. On the day of painting, Mrs. Bales came over with the painters and went over what colors were to go where with them and left. The painters did everything precisely as agreed. They finished the entire house in 2 days.

We requested Five Star Painting for a painting job at our home. Five star painting started the paint job but we immediately found that the staff deployed is of untrained quality and callous in their approach. The work started performing was of very bad quality. The photo frames etc removal was in such a fashion that we were scared, that a lot of our photo frames etc. will be either broken or corners chipped. Also curtains being removed were heaped together even after advice. The painting done had several of defective areas. When we pointed out the same to Mr. Bales -Owner of the company, he immediately brought us an undertaking written by hand showing that he is not responsible for anything happening in the house, which we for obvious reasons declined to sign. When we refused to sign this un reasonable undertaking, Five Star Painting, without giving us any notice or discussion, stopped work and walked out. When we informed Five Star that we are not going to accept his claim of finished work, Mr. Bales threatened that he will put a lien on our property. He also initiated a charge on our credit card which was un authorised. when we contested and declined the charge, Five star painting has sent us a threat to put lien on our house. Even when we tried to explain to Five star the reasonable charges (even when work done was incomplete, of poor quality), Five star went ahead overclaiming what they have done. I very strongly feel that five star painting has indulged into extortion on money from us by threats. The behavior was highly un professional, work quality was poorest of what I have ever observed in my life, the crew was untrained, reckless, and uncontrolled. To top it all Mr. bales always talked throughout more as an attorney and less as a painting contractor. In my personal opinion, If you like to deal with a attorney in place of a painter or painting company, go ahead and hire Five Star Painting.
Description of Work: Below are the services discussed for performance:Painting interior of house, all over.Removing paintings etc and remounting these.Work was left halfway through, without any discussion and notice.
It is so difficult to find good contractors, so I was very nervous about hiring someone to do so much work to our newly purchased home. We are new to the Dallas area, so I asked a co-worker for a recommendation and she suggested I call Mike at Five Star. She had recently used them and was happy with their work. I did not receive other bids for this project, so I can't speak to how their prices compare to others, but I felt that we paid a very fair price considering all the work that was done. Mike's son, Josh, was our project manager and he was very accommodating and always answered my phone calls and text messages promptly. Israel was the head painter and we adored him and his crew! They were very conscientious and worked long hours to complete the job on time. They carefully covered all floors and covered the walls in plastic during the popcorn removal. It made a huge mess, but they did their best to keep it contained and they cleaned up well after they were finished. During the popcorn removal, they uncovered flaws in the drywall and they patched those flaws beautifully and didn't charge me extra for it. They also ended up having to paint more coats than they anticipated in some areas, but they didn't charge me extra for that either. We painted many different colors and Israel and his crew kept all the colors straight and did everything correctly. Israel does not speak English fluently, but I didn't have trouble communicating with him. I felt very comfortable having him in our home. Every time I showed up to check on things, they were hard at work. I would sometimes take photos with my phone to document the progress and the painters would actually move buckets, brushes, etc out of the way so I could get a good photo. I didn't ask them to - they were just that helpful and kind. We had hired a carpenter to do some work for us and he didn't finish on time. Josh was so understanding and moved his schedule around so that Israel and his crew could come back later to finish painting after the carpenter was finished. I really appreciated that I didn't have to pay for the work until they were complete and I was 100% happy. The money we spent totally transformed the look of our home and it looks incredible. I wouldn't hesitate to call Mike and Five Star again.
Description of Work: -Removal of popcorn ceilings from a large majority of our home (2770 sq ft) -Wallpaper removal from dining room -Antiqued finish on a beadboard ceiling -Painted walls and ceilings of dining room, entry, living room, master bedroom and bathroom, and a spare bedroom -Painted kitchen cabinets -Painted paneling and coffered ceilings

I purchased the Groupon on Thursday 11/03/2011 and called that afternoon to get on the schedule and was told someone would contact me either later that day or the next day. By Monday 11/07/2011 no one had called so I called again and was told that Groupon has a 72 hour return/ cancellation period so they were waiting for the return/ cancellation period to elapse before calling to schedule but definitely would call mid-to late week. By Friday 11/11/2011 still no word so I called to check status and was told that they would give my info again to the scheduler Reed and have him call but just as a reminder they were looking at about 3 weeks out for the job. I called again on 12/01/2011 and informed them that since they have had my money for 4 weeks (my accoount was debited $159 on 11/04/2011) then I expected a call from the scheduler ASAP! Called again on 12/02/2011 and was finally told that they could work me in on 12/19/2011. I explained that since they have been earning interest on my hard earned money for the past 4 weeks with not so much as even a courtesy call and I will see *zero* benefit from that interest then they can at least move me up in the schedule. They agreed to 12/16/11. The scheduler Reed turned out to also be the painter who showed up... An hour late. The room was painted, but not without a break for lunch so I could go back to Home Depot to get 2 more gallons of paint (as I was told by the receptionist that 2 gallons would be sufficient). My assumption is that the amount of paint needed had been underestimated because the scheduler Reed never took the time during the entire 6 weeks to call me to discuss the job, dimensions of the room, color being painted, etc. Not exactly what I would call a professional outfit.
Description of Work: I purchased the Groupon for 2 rooms of interior paint for $159 on 11/03/2011 only because my media room is an odd shape and has 9 ft ceilings rather than 8 ft as outlined in the rules. I had contacted Five Star Painting 3 times prior to purchasing this Groupon due to the fact that my room did not fit their parameters, and we finally agreed that the 2 rooms for $159 would cover the 1 larger than advertised room.

I have worked for a painting contractor in the past...I've moved alot, owned eight different homes in four states and had to deal with painters and contractors many times over the last 30 plus years. Mike and his crew were on time, cleaned and prepared the house for painting, painted the house, replaced the boards with the wood rot, repaired the faux shutter, painted the garage doors, back door and stained the front door...without trashing the shrubs or painting my car. House looks great. Over the three days they were here I talked with four of the crew and found them courteous and knowledgeable. This is the second time I have used Five Star Painting. I have and will continue to recommend them to friends and family because they do GREAT work.
Description of Work: My home in hadn't been painted since construction was completed ten years ago. One of the faux shutters was broken, there were areas of wood rot, paint was peeling in areas and the front door really looked bad.

Mike came out for the estimate and provided a written quote. I called him and said we would want to work on the quote, but were almost sure we wanted to follow through with him. When Mike came back out, he said he would have to raise the price, despite us already having a written quote. I didn’t understand why he would increase it. I started asking for details about the project and Mike then decided he just didn’t want to agree to the job. I ended up wasting a lot of time with him.
Description of Work: I contacted them for an exterior and interior painting project.

I gave the member a quote as he mentioned because we had a mutual friend. He and his wife were talking to me the entire time I did the quote. They ask me to add, then remove, then add etc. They called me later and told me my price was less than half everyone elses price and wanted me to double check my quote. I drove back to their house, and sure enough I had miss measured slightly due to the distraction. I added about 10% to the cost to cover what I had missed, and they were upset, so after a while I agreed to do it for the original quoted cost and eat the difference. They agreed, then sent me a list of an additoinal 20 things they thought would be done, including triming bushes, fixing "all" cracks in the brick we were painting etc. etc. As a result of where I could see this going, I withdrew my bid before we ever got started, no signed contracts, no money exchanging hands etc.

They came out and repaired the holes that had been put in by various critters and painted the exterior of the house. They did an excellent job. I've used them since then. They came out and looked at some questions I had, even though they hadn't painted my house yet. I'm fixing my foundation and they told me to hold off until after that work was done. I know people that could say they could do it and not mention that it would have to be fixed later. They had excellent customer service. My parents were happy with the paint job. I got 4 estimates and they weren't the highest or lowest, they were very reasonable for the work that was done. They were in the middle of the pack. I plan to use them next for my house.

I met with Mike Christensen on 8/6/2010 about getting a 500sq foot apartment I own painted. He was five minutes late, I usually do not hire a company if the estimator is late, but sad to say he was the closest one to being on time of the three estimators I met with. His bid was fair in the middle of the other 2 bids. On the afternoon of 8/6/2010 I called him to get started. He informed me his crew was working on a few other jobs but would be able to start on 8/12 and that the job should not take more than 4 days. He tells me his guys will be there at 8am and I am to meet them to hand over the keys. I arrive at the apartment on 8/12 at 8am. At 8:25am no one has called me but someone from Five Star shows and tells me the crew is running late. I give her the keys, show her around the apartment, and leave. Its now 8:35am still no paint crew. I had carpet installed on 8/18. I arrive at the apartment to find the paint job only half finished. My wife received a call on 8/24 telling me the paint job was finally finished and asking me to meet the painters at the apartment on 8/25 at 9am to get my keys back. At 9:10am I call Five Star Painting to find out why they are late again. At 9:15 the paint crew shows and we walk through the apartment. The kitchen and bathroom are covered in paint dust, drywall and trash. The new carpet is full of nails, screws and drywall by both windows where they had rehung the blinds. On the fireplace sat three OPEN paint cans. When I asked about the mess they picked up the nails and screws and asked me if I wanted the paint. Needless to say I will not be using this company again.

Response from Five Star Painting of Dallas
It is true that I showed up 5 minutes late. This is an apartment complex, and it was difficult to find the exact place, so yes, I got there 5 minutes late. The reality is that my crews showed up early, no call was made that we were late. They got there, found the apartment and knocked; no one was home, so they went down in their truck and watched the door. When the customer showed up, he just sat in his truck and watched the door. He called me and I informed him my crews were on site waiting for him. I then called my crews and had them get out of their truck and then the work commenced. There were 3 dry wall screws they had neglected to pick up. With regards to dust, how much dust does "paint" leave behind? There was a little dust on the window sill, yes, but it was very minor. We always leave the left over paint with the customer. That is our policy in case they nick the wall and need touch up paint. That’s why it was left in the apartment. Again, this is an apartment, so we could not leave it in the garage or on the porch. I'm sorry if Mark felt it was a bad experience. We paint 500 to 1000 houses per year, 99% are thrilled with us, and sometimes someone feels we are not up to par but its rare.
