Response from Mr. Electric of NorthWest Houston
Ms. [Member Name Removed], It is our job as electricians to complete all work within code regulations. Your home was built in the late 1940's early 1950's. Things have changed since, from the appliances to the type of bulbs we use. The existing service (overhead), and meter are not rated for a 200amp breakerbox. These items are required to make the 200amp breaker box function. You are within city limits and require a permit. The permit includes our administration fees along with the process of getting the power temporary disconnected to reconnected the same day. The deal does include installation of a surge protector valued at $524.48 at no additional cost. It also includes grounding (which is a code/ safety regulation). The 200amp breaker box with up to 24 breakers is included. We warranty our labor for 10 years. All of this can be further discuss over the phone. Please feel free to contact our office at 713-481-5680 Thank you, Mr. Electric Office Manager

Description of Work: They changed out two 20 AMP breakers to a 15 AMP in my main breaker panel. 5 minutes worth of work and let me tell you. It was not cheap. Too expensive, but I need to get it done so I paid their price. $120 dollars per breaker.

First, I must give Angie's list an F. Their original Big Deal for this service was through Madaras Electric of Fort Bend County (TX). Madaras contacted me and said they weren't licensed for that type service in the city of Houston, that Angie's List shouldn't have posted it in Houston. Once that error was cleared up, Angie got Mr. Electric of Northwest Houston to do the job for the original price. Mr. Electric, its owner, James, and the personnel I dealt with directly (Kathy, the dispatcher, and Paul, the electrician) were fantastic. Because Angie's List personnel fumbled the ball again in terms of setting up scheduling, Kathy had to scurry and find an electrician who could come to my house at a specified time the morning of the appointment. That person, Paul, arrived and was excellent in dispatching his duties, in spite of some adversity provided by Centerpoint Energy, the server for the City of Houston. Centerpoint turned off power to my house so Paul could do his job. But inclement weather in another part of the city delayed nterpoint from returning to cut my power back on in a timely fashion. I was without power for 24 hours. Throughout that time, Kathy and Paul called on several occasions to check on me, and assure they were doing all in their control to expedite Centerpoint's return. At one time, I was also put in touch with the company's owner, James, who reaffirmed assurances that Mr. Electric was sorry for the delay, and that his company was doing its best to get Centerpoint back out. While still mortified over enduring the Texas heat for so long -- unnecessarily -- I am grateful to Mr. Electric of Northwestt Houston for their excellent service. Should I need electrical help in the future, I won't hesitate to ring their bell. A million thanks to James, Kathy and Paul. A big THUMBS-DOWN to Angie's List for its part in this fiasco.

Went well, but when the guy got onsite, he noticed multiple additional repairs needed which had to be performed in conjunction with the electrical panel upgrade I purchased. I just didn't have another $1,500 laying around so, I had to turn down the entire project until I accumulate more money.

Initially we thought all had gone very well. The Electrician/Helper worked hard and efficiently to get the big job done in 2days. However, after work done on Friday on following Sunday the AC Unit tripped the breaker. A different electrician came out & upped the ampage to better match the AC power usuage. This person also stated the home probably needed an additional $1,800.00 worth of electrical work. What? After already paying, $4,400.00?? The AC unit continued to trip the breaker and yet an Electrician--the same one who did the initial work, came back out, within a few more days of experiencing the same problem. He bumped up the ampage yet once again and charged an additional $200 for the extra service saying he didn't know the AC was drawing so much power, he was just matching the power he first saw. Would it not have made sense to make sure the new Main had plenty of power to handle the AC unit in the home? Very frustrating. Did not show first afternoon as he said and was running very late the next day. Then, had to pay an extra $200, after having paid $4,400.00.

The technician arrived at exactly 8:00 am as scheduled. He had an extremely professional attitude and appearance. He quickly identified our circuit problem as a burnt wire into one of our plugs in the bathroom that caused the entire circuit to shut down unless an appliance or light happened to be plugged into to that outlet. He explained the technical reason behind why this was happening and changed out the plug to a GFCI outlet along with changing out another GFCI outlet to a regular plug. During his inspection he identified a few very important problems with the house, many that exist with most other homes built before 2005 or so, when new codes went into effect ( for certain cities and municipalities ) which did NOT include The Woodlands.. One of the most important was that our house was not grounded properly. He showed me the rusted galvanized rod used along with an improper clamp type that has left the house "at risk" without a proper grounding source, a critical part of a properly designed safety system. The estimated cost to repair, $195.00, what a small investment for such a critical improvement. His inspection also uncovered that many of the neutral wires in the fuse box were doubled up on most of the connections. This problem weakens the path back to the fuse box in the case of any type of short . He explained that all wires should be on a single connection. Although I did not get an estimate on this repair, I feel it will be well worth the cost and will have this done in my new home that was built in 2001. He also took time to answer all of my questions about a whole house surge protection system and the two alternatives available. With that knowledge I now know exactly how to go forward with our new home in protecting ALL of my critical operating systems from lightning strikes, power surges on the grid, and inadvertent tampering of the system by phone or cable technicians. Overall, this technician was awesome. His knowledge along with his willingness to share his knowledge with me was priceless. He never rushed or seemed to be in a hurry to move on to the next customer. He made me feel like I had his undivided attention as long as I needed it. Will I use them again, of course, without a doubt.
Description of Work: We hired the company to troubleshoot an electrical problem with a circuit in our bathroom. He suggested that an overall inspection of our system be performed to help identify any other problems that might exist or need addressing. We are selling our home and want our new owners to come into a completely safe and working electrical system. Although we addressed the one inspection flag, we plan on sharing all of the knowledge we gained from Service Men at Work so that they can make informed choices about protecting their new investment as we will with our new home.

Description of Work: We used Mr. Electric of NorthWest Houston to install some electrical stuff in our house. We had them install outdoor lights, we had them put lights in the garage and the backdoor, put in lights in the front door, a doorbell button and we had them install a ceiling fan as well.

Initially had an appointment setup for a home inspection prior to purchasing a house. The initial appointment was not not honored by the seller, and it resulted in an unproductive trip by the electrician . However. on the second attempt ( which took a lot of scheduling to arrange between the realtors, sellers and company, they failed to show up without notifying me of the cancellation because they did not have a credit card number on file.) I think the blame was on both sides, but It would have been helpful to communicate the cancellation ahead of time so 4 other enities are not waiting for someone who did not showup)

Quality work at reasonable price. Scheduling issue arose, but new time set. The electrician was licensed and was not in a rush, and did quality work. Arrived on time and went right to work. He wore shoe covers and even had his own floor mat he used to clean his shoes before entering my home. I was impressed, and believe it was quality work and would use them again.
